Has anyone figured out a way to fix the mms cap on Evo 3D? I've searched but I haven't seen anyone mention anything about it. I don't believe its possible without root, but I wanted to ask the experts first.
I would be interested in a fix for this.
Just curious: Why is a cap-fix needed?

The cap limits the size of a picture or file I may want to send through MMS. Sprint services will allow larger files and pictures to be send via MMS but the phone shrinks these pictures to reduce the size of the transfer. Raising the cap will allow the other person to receive the picture in the size and clarity that you took the picture.
can always email it
The pics on the 3D are a lot smaller than the OG Evo but 1M is very small. I was up to a 5M limit on my OG Evo. I would like to see this feature but I think we will have to wait for perm root and/or S-off for this functionality.
Hmmmmm....yes, this does sound interesting. Was Root needed when this cap was raised on the Evo?
Yea, I doubt we will have this until we get full root. Calkulin was the first to come up with this fix for the 4G, and it was ultimately adopted into almost all roms. I got very used to having a 5mb limit on mms as opposed to 2mb. As soon as full root arrives the mods, hacks, tweaks, and fixes will start rolling.

Go SMS has a 5 meg setting for MMS. I don't send attachments usually so I've never tested it.
What are you guys sending that's 5 megs? This

Hey all,
I have had a G2 with tmobile from practically day one (and a G1 before that). I use cyanogen roms and enjoy the crap out of my G2. Long live android and all you devs that put in absurd amounts of work and let us lay-people reap the fruits of your labor!
However, tmobile's service is driving me up the walls. I live in a metropolitan area (Seattle) yet I still drop calls like no one's business. The 4g coverage/speeds is great sometimes, and crap at other times. I've been flashing different radios, but that doesn't seem to change anything. A friend telling me that they got tmobile to waive the termination fee because of poor coverage and the TB price on wifefly recently both got my attention.
I scanned through a series of posts and searched a bit, but wasn't able to find exactly what I'm looking for, so here are my questions for any of you peeps rocking TB's who would be so kind as to answer:
1. I dig the built-in wifi hotspot on my tmobile G2. They don't get to charge me any BS extra fees. I can wifi hotspot my laptop wherever I have data coverage. Is this the same with a cm7 verizon TB or are you subject to their data gestapo charges?
2. I REALLY dig my raised-key physical keyboards (G1, G2, notice trend) but have gotten pretty good with Swype on my G2. It looks like Swype does not come stock on the TB but can it be added?
3. The camera on the G2 is RAD, if you have a tripod nearby to stabilize it on... :-/. I find it super difficult to get a non-blurry shot if the subject or myself is moving (and the earth is continually rotating, so this is a problem). How's the shutter speed/general performance of the TB camera? Does it take pretty clear photos even if the subject is moving or do they look like a blurred out spirit-realm being?
4. Similarly, I feel that the camcorder for the G2 has poor FPS for its class, as 'HD' video gets all blurred with only minimal movement. I've tweaked it a bit but it never can quite cut the cheese as a legitimate memory-capturer (). It irks me to no end that my gf's iphone 4 gets way better video quality than my G2. I want to end this nonsense. How's the camcorder on the TB? A little action shooting gonna look OK or no?
5. The rooting/flashing of the TB looks fairly straightforward. Looks like there's tons of dev support and some kickin roms. Late nights in adb shell on my laptop here I come!!! Correct me if I'm wrong.
6. Battery life sounds like an issue when you're running stock, but significantly improves with the right roms/settings (duh). I also use a charger at work, so I'm always able to give my phone some juice. No reason to freak out here, correct?
That's it, that's all. If you feel like only answering one, please do. I'm just wanting to make sure I make a good decision before I try to deal with tmobile & waiving my termination fee (FML). Even if I only get some of this info, it will help.
Thanks a ton ya'll.

To answer your question about rooting, I am a noob when it comes to understanding this stuff. I was able to successfully root my tbolt, twice I might add just by following instructions. The dev support is incredible and the roms are superb. I know the battery life thing is an issue to some people but the newest kernels out there definity make up for it. Also Verizon is getting rid of their unlimited data on the 7th so better make a quick decision.

Ya, I'm planning on making a move in the next few days if I get comfortable enough with the thunderbolt and get t-mobile to take a hike.

I run CM7 wifi tether all the time without worrying about data charges..I believe the stock app is free for a while as well.
Swype isn't included stock on the TB, but it can indeed be added if you sign up for their now open beta.
More than half the time if the subject is moving I am able to get a clear photo of them..just went on a safari ride down at Disney and was able to get a ton of very good pictures.
I've never had a problem with aaction shots on my TB either all my videos look crisp.
There is a lot of Dev support for such a new phone.. cyanogenmod is currently in alpha stage because of problems with 4g surviving a reboot but that's to be expected, just like the Evo. We have froyo sense roms and gb sense roms as well as sense 3.0 roms to go with our two AOSP builds that suffer from the 4g issue but if you don't reboot your phone a lot it's a non issue and data isn't that hard to toggle
If you are near a charger all the time at work you should have no problems with battery life when rooted/rom'd. There was a deal on HTC express where they were selling two 1700 mAh batteries and a wall charger that charges batteries as well as your phone.. there's debate as to whether or not they have the capacity that is claimed but they definitely last longer than the stock battery so I just keep one in my wallet.
Hope that covers everything.. if you have any more questions feel free to ask

+1 for awesome dev support on the TB. And with the recent GB kernels the battery issues are not much a of a problem.
Here is my experience:
I rooted the OG Droid with a one-click so I was pretty nervous using ADB. I followed all the instructions and it worked just fine.
For battery life - I found a good deal on Amazon with the 1600 Seido battery and a wall charger that charges up the extra battery. I will keep the extra battery around if I am going to be out for 12+ hours, but I use my phone a ton, with Navigation and browsing, etc.
For Swype - the new Sense 3.0 ROMs (I use BAMF's which I think is the only one right now) have a "Trace" option in the keyboard. I think it is similar to Swype, but I haven't personally used either. I did find myself missing the hard keys less and less in a matter of days after upgrading though.
Good luck!
Thanks everyone. Really helpful info.
I actually used the Trace keyboard function, and will say that it is quite well implemented (first tried it on the HTC Sensation, then installed the BAMF RC3 ROM) though not as accurate as Swype.
Hello, I have my camera settings on 5M but when I take pictures the file size is only 800-900kb Do certain settings change with different roms or is that right? I thought 5M shots shoulf be clower to 1.5mb a pic?? Thanks.
Since 8M on the Evo 4G gave 1.8 MB pics, around 1MB pics with 5M seems pretty normal.
Thats what gets me even more confused...my 8M droid x photos were around 3MB??? Weird.

I don't think the megapixels has everything to do with the size. I'm sure there are other things that change the picture size.
ok, it is what it is I guess.

Low picture file size is a good thing - Pictures usually take up a LOT of SD card memory.
I am pretty sure that it is so small because they are compressed.

this issue was raised a week or so ago and I did some in depth research.
the thread is here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1213601
to briefly summarize, the AOSP camera available with source code shows a roughly 75 (i'm guessing %) value being passed to what looks like a compression call when saving the image.
now, htc is probably using some type of hybrid version of the camera app or perhaps one they wrote from scratch as they have 3D support and a different GUI.
the downside to htc's stock camera app is they don't release the source code for it. the best way i can think of finding out for sure, how much compression is being used on the evo 3d is by decompiling the htc stock camera app and sifting through the reversed java source code looking for the compression call.
sorry its not a great solution, but hopefully this summary and the detailed research in the previous thread provide more information and help create a clearer picture of the issue.

Well that is defenitely a pretty in depth analysis Cant say I understand it all, but I'm just glad that it wasnt just me thinking something fishy is up with these pics once they are blown up....thanks for the info and I hope some dev out there can cure this flaw.
I never really write anything on XDA and I've been an Android faithful since the T-mobile G1 (the good old days!). I went from a G1 to the Evo 4G and eventually the Evo 3D. I've been rooting for HTC to come out as Android king but I can't handle the Evo 3D anymore. I've tried many ROMs and kernels but I have 3 main issues that just broke the straw on the camel's back:
1. Whenever I try to send a tweet using the official Twitter app, I always get a force close! I've gotten in the habit of using copy/paste to write out my tweet, copy, wait for the FC, open Twitter app again, and paste, with the hopes of having my tweet eventually sent. I'm a twitter addict, this is killing me!
2. Whenever my phone gets an incoming call, I can hear my ringtone and the phone's screen lights up, but the screen is black! This means that I can't see who is calling me, and I am unable to pick up the call. I have to use the power button to hang up on the person and try to call them back. Basically I can't receive calls.
3. This is a common issue with all Sense ROMs, but the Messaging app never shows an accurate "unread" messages count. If I read and reply to a text message and return to the "All Threads" screen on the messaging app, the thread still shows that there are unread messages. This is the most frustrating thing in the world! I have tried installing the MMS.apk from CyanogenMod, but if I attempt to install that in a Sense ROM I get a FC every time I try to send a text.
I tried to love this phone, I really did. The hardware is amazing and the phone is super fast, but I can't put up with these bugs. I have tried using SupraROM, Synergy, and WildShooter with the Silverneedle, Ziggy, and AnthraX kernels. I'm done with trying different ROM and kernel combinations. I really miss my Evo 4G with CM I didn't come here expecting solutions, I just really want to vent. I wish the Galaxy Nexus was coming to Sprint!
Sounds like you didn't wipe everything.

1. To fix this problem, go to settings>applications and clear data for the Twitter app. This should fix the FC. If not, uninstall it and reinstall. I had the same problem and that fixed it. If you can't uninstall it using either the market or Settings>applications, use a file manager and go to /system/app/ and find the Twitter.apk and delete it there.
2. I personally haven't had this problem but many have with custom ROMs, I believe both Eternity and Warm TwoPointThree have this fixed now (as well as many others I'm sure). Do a search, I've seen this all over.
3. This used to bother me as well. It is frustrating. I have found no solution. I just made myself get over it because I like the Sense 3.0 Mms app so much, but sounds like you don't have a preference since you tried to replace it, so maybe try GoSMS, Handcent SMS, or any number of other SMS apps on the market.
Good luck!
The only time I ever experienced #2 was when I was running Warm twopointthree with Tiamat kernel. Switched back to the tweaked stock kernel included with warm and haven't seen the issue since. All in all, Warm twopointthree is pretty much everything I could ask of a rom- fast, stable, SVN access to update without requiring a full wipe whenever I get a spare moment, and most importantly an absolutely stellar team of devs behind the scenes.
P.S. wiping your phone when switching between roms is crucially important and can easily cause a myriad of strange and/or inexplicable issues/bugs/FCs etc. Just fyi if you weren't aware...certainly no offense meant
#2 sounds like a kernal issue only. Ziggy kernals were bad for me.
Why dont u use a completely stock rom? Its faster than any evo4g modded imo

try not using custom kernels for a while..ive experienced the same issues and for me,going to a stock kernel fixes those issues.im on Myn's Warm rom and havent had any problems.
Thanks guys, I really appreciate the suggestions. Whenever I change ROMs I always do a complete wipe and use MyBackup Pro to backup/restore my data and apps. Its really a PITA actually with the storage constraints (16 gb SD card, full of data) I usually have to backup everything in phases and transfer parts of my backup to my PC. I hate waiting for the backup/restore and transfer time from phone to PC. I've just really grown frustrated of the evo 3d. This was kind of my goodbye letter, I'm meeting up with someone on craigslist to trade for a Nexus S. Hopefully that can hold me over until I sprint gets an ICS phone *couch*Galaxy Nexus!*cough*. It's been real.

#1 - I've never had a problem with the twitter app
#2 - I've had this issue when using the ziggy kernel thats why I don't use it (some ROMs use it)
#3 - I agree with you but I don't get a lot of SMS messages so I haven't had your degree of frustration.
So it boils down to #3 as the only real "issue". I did notice the other day that the lockscreen did have a SMS count. Doubt that helps you at all. Good luck with the new phone and I hope it doesn't have any bugs.. I don't know of any device that is perfect even iPhones have some issues.

This would be amazing on our phones! I too am more excited about this mod than any other. I use my camera a lot!
If it corrects for the pops and squeaks during video recording, then that would be icing on the cake. True 30fps recording would great too. I've had pretty severe frame-rate drops during recording.
I went ahead and installed the program and it appears to work. I get larger JPG images and 1080 video at higher bitrates. A few things though. The icons at the bottom are physically lower on the screen so the text on the bottom gets cut off. The button to the gallery doesn't work from video mode but appears ok from camera mode. The effects appear to work too. This is just my preliminary findings.
I'm on CleanRom 4.1 without any of the mods.
Edit: xsnapshot, I haven't noticed the pops and squeaks since the radio update in January. I didn't notice any on the test video I took, but it was only for 10 secs so I'm not sure. I'll take a longer video later and see if I can hear the pops and squeaks.
Edit2: Not sure why you linked to an Engadget post when the original post is in XDA. Here it is so you can get the app. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1533238
I installed this yesterday and haven't had any issues with it. I have not used my Rezound camera enough to really notice a difference. I guess I should have taken a before and after pick to see if the file size changed much.
I didn't flash it. Opened the zip up and pushed each item to my phone.
I did take a picture of some clouds yesterday evening. File size was 2.62MB
Installed this tonight, my photo file sizes are huge now, though I've not seen a huge difference in 1080p video quality. I'll do some outdoor testing tomorrow, to see if there is a difference.
I'll try to post some results if I get around to it

Out of curiosity... can this be undone
if you reflash a rom without it, yeah lol...
this doesn't do anything for video, btw guys..in joels rom it didn't, anyway. still recorded at around 8mbps, wouldn't ever hit above that to get even near 20...photo's seemed to work uncompressed though; they're bigger in size
How do I make my photos less compressed? They look like crap when I send them out. They looked much better on other phones. They also look fine in my gallery. I am using the AOSP sms app beacuse the TW one sends out slideshows.
Any suggestions?
Verizon limits it via network. You can make them slightly bigger, but not by any noticeable amount.

Nah, I'd say that is all compression related.
I send high qual images via email because of it.
