[Q] CM10 and Google Search - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have two problems I need help with, and this might be the wrong forum.
I'll start off with some very specifics, including technical specs. I have an Acer Iconia a500. It has an nVidia Tegra 2 T20 CPU (ARMv7 rev 0 version 71) with 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage space, and an 8GB microSD card. Manufactured early 2011. It is currently running Android 4.1.2.
Kernel version 2.6.39.4-jellyplay_v3.1+ [email protected]#1
Thu Nov 22 19:23:47 ICT 2012
Build number
cm_a500-userdebug 4.1.2 JZO54K eng.pj.20121122.181927 test-keys
First, the Google Search crashes every time I open it. I did the OS install (ROM, OS, almost same thing) from a clean wipe. Google Search, when I open it, gets through the Google Now setup stages. But whether I choose yes or no, it then returns to the previous screen with no errors or messages for me. I found a suggestion that said I should wipe my cache- that just forced Android to 'optimize' my apps- no change in behavior. Anybody have any hints?
Second, Google Chrome hasn't worked for ages on my tablet, even under the stock (but rooted) ICS. It says 'Critical functionality required to run Chrome is missing: either your Chrome installation is incomplete, or not compatible with this version of Android.' I did try to change the build.prop file to match the ILK74M, I think was the suggestion, and that didn't work. Before I changed the build.prop, it reported that my Android installation may be corrupt. I also tried un-updating the market, and reinstalling the app. No dice. Ideas?
Finally, I'm using pjsports's CM10 Jellybean ROM. It was last updated on November 26th, 2012. Is there a more updated CM10 and/or Jellybean ROM for the Acer a500 that I'm missing? EDIT: Just found pjgsport's weekly release. I'll try updating to that. I'd still like help with the other two, or at least an explanation.

Japanese game on AOKP ROM - P4

OK guys,
I got a 10.1 3G 64GB & definitely love it. Installed AOKP build 38 and pershoot June 3rd, 2012 kernel.
I tried to install and play King of Fighters. Of course, that's is f*king crazy to get the game run. After installing latest version KOF 12.04.06, "Your device is incompatible" message appeared and FC.
I tried to patch with Lucky Patcher & it let me downloaded about 400MB of game data, followed with some nonsense register thingies.
After all the bull****, game run and another error code appeared 0X00... something; and another FC.
Anyone accidentally know how to get this bad ass run on AOKP, please guide me.

[Q] Can not download on Chinese Android

I have just acquired a Jaiyu G1 running Android 2.3.6. The seller claimed it to be a MTK6515 but searching that on this forum shows a different phone. I am not allowed to post external links but you can find a picture at bit(dot)ly / ZRPsWr
Unfortunately, it can not download any apps and after quite a while with the Amazon Appstore help-team it appears that the OS has been modified and is now unstable.
System Update & Build Number shows G1LMO 20120813-080659

Whenever I attempt to download an app I get
Sorry!

I have a second (chinese) browser on the system which seems to get the same error - not sure because the dialog is in chinese. Have tried to download a different browser, but can't because I can't download!
I am totally new to Android, so although I am well versed in IT (my heritage goes back to DOS 5), I am looking for a relatively simple fix. I have no idea what 'rooting' is or any similar terms, so be gentle with me.
It would seem that if it were possible to install a clean (un modified) version of Android Gingerbread that would be the simplest version - simply dump the existing buggy install. However, if that is not practical, any other suggestions would be much appreciated.
Dear friend. I have the same problem with that device. As I read arround about that, the problem is google don't recognize that device as "compatible" with it's apps. So, we are not able to install anything from "Google Play" (Market). As an alternative way to install apps, try Blackmart o Moborobo.
Last days I tried to Root my device and flash a new room, but, for now, it's not possible.
I'll keep trying, if I find some solution, I'll contact you by this forum.
Sorry about my poor english!!! :silly:

Kreem, Thanks for replying - your English is fine.
I can not directly download anything onto the phone, through 'play' or (say) photos from the web.
However, I downloaded onto my PC the app for Amazon Appstore. I then copied it onto the phones memory card and re-inserted it into the phone.
From File Manager on the phone I ran the file, which set up the Amazon Appstore on my phone. That works fine, although there are far fewer Apps than on Google.

You must get root privileges, and apply patch with extended GAPPS (added DownloadProvider.apk, DownloadProviderUi.apk, MediaProvider.apk). You can find this files on forum.china-iphone.ru/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=23396 (sorry, i can't post the link). There are modified firmware with rooted kernel and other. [Q] LagFix on GT-P7500

Hello,
just messed around for several hours and do not know how to proceed.
My Tab is boring slow after a busy year. Here is the data:
GT-P7500
Android 4.0.4
Baseband P7500XXLQ8
Kernel 3.1.10 [email protected] #1, SMP PREEMPT Fri Aug 3 20:17:02 KST 2012
Build# IMM76D.XWLP5
I received it very early in the production process with Android 3.2. The update happened more than a year ago to 4.0.4.
I ran AndroBench, which shows an awfully slow Seq. Write and Random Write Performance (0.24MB/s). A typical case for a fstrim.
So I rooted the system with a ROOT-GT-P7500.rar file including SuperSU v0.94 from Chainfire. Went smoothly.
After that I ran eMMC Check. It indicates, that my system has the Brick Bug (which may not be true, as I learned here in the forum).
A check of the memory with this app resulted in 100% ok.
The I tried to load the LagFix-App from the Google AppStore. But it tells me, that my tablet is not compatible. Only my Galaxy Note 3 is shown as suitable for this app.
Her is the twofold question:
1. Shall I risc a fstrim, even if I have the Brick Bug reported bei eMMC Check? Am I killing myself?
2. How may I run fstrim, if I am not allowed to install LagFix?
I also wrote an email to grilledmonkey, the creators of LagFix but have no answer yet.
Any suggestions?

[Q] 'SOLVED' Problem with updating Apps

Hello there!
I am having problems with updating applications on my phone. I have a Sony Xperia S running on a custom ROM. Details of my phone are below. I can download or install an application from the market or from my internal storage, but afterwards I can not update. It only works sometimes on the market, but it never works when trying to update from my internal storage. I keep getting an "App not installed" error. I have 'Unknown source' checked. My phone is rooted with latest binary. I have the latest BusyBox. I have space in System, Data, Cache and Internal. I have tried multiple methods, such as Xposed' "Xinstaller" app, clearing cache and even data. I have also tried swapping android installation location just in case, because, well, you never know! I tried updating an app through multiple apps. But I had no luck there.
The thing is, I had this ROM before, and never had such problems. The ROM hasn't been updated since I last had it, so I know I am running on the same version. According to the developer, it's a stable ROM. I decided to move to Lollipop, only to find some incompatibility issues with a few apps, and eventually loosing my internal storage. So I had to reflash and all to get it even working. I have a backup of the ROM I ran with before going to 5.1.1, but that has some sort of boot problems, which I have caused. So I am sure its not the ROM itself.
I have not tried to replace an app file in my phones system-data folder manually, so I don't know if it works like that. I would like a more permanent solution, if possible. I don't want to uninstall and reinstall just to update. I would like to keep my data and not go through so much trouble. > Even if I had to I couldn't, because it wont let me. I have tried to uninstall an app and reinstall it with a newer version, but it simply won't let me, through my internal storage that is. Play has a mind of its own. Sometimes it would let me, sometimes it won't. Sometimes its just a specific app.
I have never met with such an issue ever. It's mind-blowing!
I have also tried searching this problem, but about 99% are about updating errors through Play. I have not contacted the ROM developer about this, as I think this problem is more universal.
Specs:
Manufacturer: Sony
Model: Xperia S
Android version: 4.4.4
ROM: Carbon-KK Unofficial (2014-11-03 1244)
Kernel: 3.4.0-Evolve-v1.25+ [email protected] #1
CPU: ARMv7 Processor rev 4 (v7l)
Memory: 732 MB
Build Number: carbon_nozomi-userdebug 4.4.4 KTU84Q e6e5d96b44 test-keys
SELinux Status: Enforcing
I would appreciate anyone's help and suggestions!
#Edit:
After experimenting, I came to a conclusion.
I CANNOT give you an exact solution to this problem I've been having. It could be due to a faulty Xposed install or some sort. Maybe because I wasn't on the latest Xposed version. Or maybe because of Xposed' "XInstaller".
Try experimenting with basically what you have. Maybe I was lucky because I just had to remove an app. But you might not be. You could try to re-flash your ROM just in case it might be a system error, although that may be unlikely. Try removing or disabling (freezing) your app(s) that may cause you to have a signature error or any other app that may conflict an app install IN ANY WAY POSSIBLE. (Signature check, forward-locking, backward install, etc. (Just like XInstaller from Xposed))Hopefully many who might have came across this error will be able to get out of it with the above-mentioned.

You could try removing xposed. Many apps are now checking for it and if found it won't install. Also it could be that the apps that you download have different signatures then the official and in that case it will not install on top of it. Also apps installed are installed in the data/app partition. Never in system. It could also be a rom issue. Carbon has been known to have issues mainly with their gapps
Hmm I had Xposed before when I still had this ROM. Everything went fine! But I will give that a shot later.
I have also tried reinstalling the exact same apps I had before since I kept the apps. I know I don't have some signature issue. Checked them all out. But if I even uninstall a given app, I won't be able to reinstall it, whether its the exact same version or an updated version. I have not tried a previous older version though. But still, I'll give a shot at removing Xposed and see what will happen.
I never had an issue with Carbons Gapps. Hell, it even fixed my "Insufficient space error" Play usually gives to a lot of users. So I am a bit dumbfounded at this point.
Should give my results tomorrow.
What I meant by system-data is by moving an app to either ROOT>Data>App folder or ROOT>System>App folder.
That way I can either have an app installed as a User app or as a System app.
I swear, this whole thing is so bizarre!

See if it happens on other roms as well
Alright, I temporarily removed Xposed, and everything went fine. I updated the Xposed to 2.7.1 Experimental. Everything went fine until I updated 2 apps. Got the "App Not Installed" error again. After that I removed "XInstaller" and now everything is going fine as we speak.
I don't understand though. I had been suffering with that error BEFORE I got "XInstaller", but now I removed it, everything is going fine. I don't know if it's because I was running on Xposed 2.6, which is theoretically stable, and not on 2.7.1 Experimental, which is deemed as an experiment, or because of some other god-knows-what reason. I can now also update any app through Play as well, including the ones that I was never able to update before.
So, sit-rep:
I CANNOT give you an exact solution to this problem I've been having. It could be due to a faulty Xposed install or some sort. maybe because I wasn't on the latest Xposed version. Or maybe because of Xposed' "XInstaller". Even though those all worked for me in the past and had this trouble after re-flashing Carbon ROM before any of the just mentioned, but never mind that..
I have not tried with another ROM, because quite frankly, I simply don't have the time to experiment. Especially hair. I lost a lot during the few weeks from all this mess with my phone.
Thank you zelendel for taking your time with helping me out.
Hopefully this error wont come back again.

Newer App Versions crashing on CyanogenMod ROMs

Hello
I have an Xperia Ray and was running a 4.4.4 ROM based on CyanogenMod till a few weeks ago when I started to realize that many of the newer versions of different apps caused strange troubles. Some of them crashed most file explorers I tried just on loading the icon from the downloaded APK. Some I managed to install nonetheless only to have the same problem with the launcher/drawer itself. Every time it tries to display the icon of the app it dies. Looking for a solution I discovered that CM13 got ported for my phone and was happy to be able to change to Android 6.0.1.
Sadly the troubles did not go away. The apps that showed the above mentioned symptoms on 4.4.4 have similar effects on 6.0.1. Only that now these apps are crashing the whole phone forcing a reboot and that the launcher app does not load at all anymore. Only solution is to uninstall the app manually in recovery mode via adb shell.
After a lot of tinkering, experimenting, talking to other app devs, and rebuilding open source apps I found that the problems appeared with the update to Android Studio 3. It seems that without changing anything code wise for these apps only the update from gradle wrapper 3.5 to 4.1 seems to cause these troubles. On the other hand I can build my own apps with the newest Android Studio with everything up to date without these problems showing up. So I guess it is some library, API, or whatever in combination with the newer gradle versions that causes these troubles.
Well, it seems that there is a bug in the CyanogenMod ROMs, as far as I know by now. It's not a Xperia Ray specific problem as people with other hardware running CyanogenMod have the same problems. For example this thread here. And I got confirmation from an app developer team that they were able to reproduce the problems on a Galaxy S2 running CM13.
It's also not Android version related as updating to 6.0.1 did not help at all.
Have you experienced what I'm talking about and maybe found the solution for that problem? I think there is a bug in the CyanogenMod system somewhere but I'm not skilled enough to find it.
I fear that these problems will render my phone incompatible with more and more upcoming app versions and would really hate to have to switch to a bulky modern phone.
Here are some log files showing the errors. Maybe you can read something useful from them.
Thanks in advance!
EDIT:
Here some additional info that came as answer from a dev team I contacted regarding this issue:
The issue you have reported tends to only occur in devices with the older memory layout used by manufacturers for devices that run Android 2.x onwards, such as the Galaxy S2 - this layout still sticks around even when upgrading to custom ROMs with newer android versions. A unified internal layout for Android devices only started to appear in 2013 and it became the de-facto layout in 2014 or so.
In the old layout, you have both an Internal System Partition (1-2GB) and then an Internal System Memory (the rest of the device's advertised internal memory - its seen as emulated "External memory" - an external SD card then becomes "SD2" in these devices when running a custom ROM). This causes problems for apps that are created and compiled with the unified memory layout in mind, even if the old SDK is the target, because the system will not direct them to an accessible storage area to store user data.
The apps that do not have problems were the ones that have been around since android 2.x; they will instead have their own set of problems for newer devices and versions of Android.
Right now I'm not sure what to think of this...
Push...
push too , if i use a non cyangenmod based rom like paranoid android (6.0 Android MarshMallow Pure AOSP for Google Nexus 7 2012 WIFI), is this prob fixed then ?
i have nexus 7 (2012) wifi only device , i have cyanogenmod 11 (20141112) / android 4.4.4 ( this tablet has no SD card slot so no SD2 assignment )
Not Sony Xperia,..
Only a cheap Haier A16C3H with CM13 Nightly...but..
Yes the trouble is exactly the same in my experience here. I don't know what to do for the solution, except perhaps one of:
# "keep/looking for & install - only the old version of apps, or
# buying a new phone (if I can)
Sad
Nothing new
Push
Nothing new from my side, except that I think twice before updating an APP by now.
So far I've managed to get around with my old Xperia, but would be nice if someone more knowledgable could look into this matter.
Thanks.
Anyone figured out how to fix this? or even a workaround?
My problem was the cm13 based rom I am using on my LG G3 Beat had this problem with newer versions of apps, but someone made a cm14 based rom that fixes this problem but in exchange it created another problem, lag in the touchscreen, playing games where you have to do combo/multiple taps became impossible.
I got so frustrated that I just went back to stock lol.
