Xperia U flash count? - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Exist any way to check if my device was flashed with any type of ROM (custom or stock)? I know that some Samsung devices has a flash count.
Or any Sony device has this function?

That is known as binary counter in Samsung ( I guess so )
I havent heard anything regarding this in sony
Why do u need one
I have flashed it more than 50 times I guess ( even more)

Seriously why do you need that ?

if you have. please guess me:victory:

I sold this phone a week ago and now buyer says that is having problem with it. I need to know if he flashed it wrong or what.

U must ask him what is the problem
U gave him in working condition
So its responsibility for whtever happens, right?

This.
Phone was working when you handed it to him. No need to entertain these requests. He could have flashed it, dropped it, slept with it etc etc.
Heck, it might not even be your phone.

[Q] Rooting Galaxy S2

Hey Guys,
I switched from the Iphone to Android, I just got the Galaxy s2 and I want to root it. I have been reading of the different ways to root the phone, based on what I have seen so far the GingerBreak seems to be the easiest way to do it. So I am here in the forum, my first post is requesting a confirmation from you guys, which is the easiest way for an idiot like me to root my galaxy s2 without bricking it ?
Thanks
RedCell X
There is guide here in other post.
Basically you have to flash custom kernel, reboot and flash stock kernel back.
All using Odin.
Be careful - each custom kernel flashing will be visible. There is counter that shows how many custom kernels you flashed.
I stick with stock rom this time and avoid rooting.
This counter can be reset according to this forum. It's your decision.

Do you need root now .
jje
Gingerbreak only worked on the pre-production SGS2 models, it no longer works on the retail versions that are shipping now.
If you need root then use the link provided above, it works like a charm and you can always reflash an official kernel once you have root (and this is probably recommended if you also update your firmware to the lasted version).
The SGS1 usb jigs do work with the SGS2 and have the added bonus of resetting the custom firmware counter which may be handy if you ever need to return your phone under warranty, I got mine off of ebay yesterday and it works a treat.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the response, I don't think i will be rooting my phone being honest I am afraid to do it. I will stick with the stock rom that came from it. I spent $850 for the phone I dont want to brick it.

Dont worry about bricking your phone, even if something goes wrong with the flashing process you should always be able to get back into download mode so you can reflash either by using the keypress method or if that fails the usb jig should wake your phone up.
Then you can either use ODIN or even the Kies Recovery method to get a working ROM installed.

Yeah, while no has (yet) reported that they have had a warranty request rejected because of custom rom usage, its nice to know how to reset the counter to ensure any warranty requests go smoothly.

Ahh, that sucks then, I've never owned an SGS1 before so never looked in the SGS forum, if they have actively rejected modded phones in the past then it makes the usb jigs a very worthwhile investment then!

How about that you read the sticky threads, references in there and stop asking questions that have been answered about zillion times? This board has about half million of active users, if everyone starts posting similar junk, we are seriously doomed.

Go ask your lawyer. Flashing an official FW does not affect warranty in countries with sane legal system. Nor does flashing whatever piece of junk void your warranty for HW defects (again, in countries with sane legal system.)
Just wait till monday! . Mik is coming with a new release today or tomorrow. It's going to reveal some very good things. Also Mik will hopefully release two patches to resolve baseband issues in a few days. That will nullify the need to flash baseband if users don't want to flash baseband.
If you can't wait this much, flash official gb via kdz or lgmdp while following the instructions carefully.
Rooting, flashing voids your warranty. One should be very careful while reading instructions. If one follows instructions carefully, chances of brick are less than 1%.
If you are plain unlucky and brick your device somehow, you may go to service center and act as a noob and just tell them you tried to upgrade from lg pc suite and something wrong happened. Here there is 90% chance that you will get a replacement.
Keeping all these things in mind, you can take a decision.

Rude? WTH. You are asking in the wrong place. Again - you need to ask someone who is familiar with your local legal system to answer questions about warranty. Not here. N.B. that manufactures' claims about voiding warranty are often illegal and have no effect in reality if people are really willing to assert their rights.

He is not rude in any way but i believe i can use some other words to explain you. Ans beauty is he has explained you quite well though it different manner.
Flashing any ROM and rooting can affect your warranty, but those are country specified. Like in India we can't have warranty after rooting(Lg people are rally don't know what is rooting and all they just keep replacing hardware and some time whole device) but doktornotor said they have at least hardware warranty even after flashing custom ROM.
If you care so much about the warranty, you should not have joined the xda community in first place. Stuck with the old official ROM with no root and enjoy the laggy, less performance and less battery.
If you need best ROM, best performance and no lags- Stop worrying about the warranty.

[Q] A few questions about SGS2

I want to buy used sgs2, im living in Serbia(if someone doesen't know, Serbia is in Europe), i heard that some sgs2 have something bug with mmc chip, but i also heard that just sgs2 for USA have that chip bugs, am i right? and if i got that mmc chip bug what that means? Please answer me !!!
anyone ?!
Frankly, I have no idea what you are talking about. "MMC chip"! what in the world is that?
Re: the emmc bug, don't worry about it. Honestly. Several things need to happen for your phone to get borked as per this post. Buy the phone if you like it/want it, this won't be an issue.
I'm still little confused, can i root sgs2, flash new rom-s, change kernels ? and do other stuff without bricking my phone ?

You can brick anything if you don't follow instructions, or try to flash firmware meant for another device.
Read, follow instructions, and above all else, only use firmwares/kernels/bootloaders/etc that are meant for whatever particular model of phone you end up buying.

The galaxy s2 is almost indestructible. Just don't mess with the repartition box or pit files in odin unless you are 100 % sure what you're doing. And make sure you are in the right forum. Eg if you have a i9100 don't flash a I9100G zip or vice versa.

Plus, if you buy your phone in your region, i highly doubt that it will be incompatible.
Another thing, 2 days ago I did my first root, flash, load of roms upgrade, heck I flashed my phone 18 times (binary counter claims) because I was afraid I had broken it and HEY!
Now I have ICS with a custom ROM which works great!
Just follow instructions like kilometers4 said and you will be fine!

How do u mean "if you buy your phone in your region, i highly doubt that it will be incompatible." , incompatible with what?
Right. I'm going to make this really simple for you, OK ? So make sure you read it really really slowly.
1) The 'emmc bug' - forget about it. Don't ever mention it again. It has been blown out of all proportion on here by people who should know a lot better. If I see you mention it one more time in this thread, I'm going to post an epic facepalm pic. You don't want me to do that, do you ?
2) When Bolio said 'I highly doubt it will be incompatible with your region', he meant if you buy that used SGS2, it should work OK in your region with your carrier. Nothing else. Just like the emmc thing you're trying to see something between the lines which isn't there. Stop being paranoid/difficult.
3) As CTomGee said, people who brick their phones on here tend to be the ones who don't read or follow instructions. If you do read/follow instructions whatever you do with your phone (rooting, flashing custom roms), you should be fine. The chances of you bricking your phone increase with how little you read/follow instructions.
Now then. This thread has seen enough ridiculousness. You have enough information to enable you to make a decision whether to buy the phone or not. If you don't, read the Stickies. Either way, decide.
ok
buy i9100
dont buy any other version the the original. they all suck, nothing compared to the real thing.
GALAXY S2 I9100 , no 777, no 989, no i9100g.
i dont have any bug and everything works like charm

[Solved] help with a soft-bricked phone ((urgently))

Somebody help me with my issue
I was having RR ROM with Siyah 3.3.3b Kernel and the secondary boot is port JB
I was on the secondary boot and I was restarting I found that the device is crashed
I thought it’s the kernel so I booted the phone to the download mood and flashed a kernel again and its not working also
I tried to add new software from Odin and it was giving me errors like | failed to mount emmc
I searched the internet and by mistake I flashed the device with i9100G PIT files and I re-partitioned the device and also I flashed a new boot loader not only this but also during the flashing process my pc crashed and it restarts leaving my device with no life
I can’t even turn the device on or go to download mood or anything the only thing that let me have a faith that the mobile is still a live that its getting heat while the battery is plugged in
Anyone can help with this?
Hard Brick?
As far a I know flashing a wrong bootloader hard-bricks your phone. the bootloader is what loads first, ans then in turn loads the rest of the system. if your bootloader is broken, it will neither load recovery, DL-Mode nor the system. maybe you can find a solution to this by searching for wrong bootloader or anything of the sort.
if everything fails you would need to get a new motherboard or whatever it is called in an android phone. there are guides in this forum on this, I once used this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1253969 althogh the photos only seem to work with the old xda2010 theme.
I hope it is not what it looks like and you get your phone up and ruing again.
Bootloader had nothing to do with what went wrong for him. He flashed an I9100G pit file to an I9100.
OP, unfortunately there's nothing you can do at this point short of JTag service, or visiting/sending the phone to a Samsung service center.
find a repair center that preforms jtag near you, it should cost you about 40$

am living in Egypt we don't have Jtag services .. i saw what they can make on you-tube and am still in warranty so i don't know what to do should i pass it by the warranty should they let me pay or it will be free ?
From what i've read on this forum its better if you try to send it to samsung for warranty your chances to get it repaired is 50/50 just play dump you have nothing to loose
thanks guys for your reply i think i made an issue with the MB BOIS firmware hence it has to be hard flashed in the warranty so am scheduling the same on next Friday i hope that they will not ask for money as it was on a custom ROM
because here in Egypt Warranty is make fool of us and they always take much money to fix noob issues so guess what they can do regarding mine.

Spoon feeding is not allowed here.
If you're a Android n00b and want to know how to root or flash custom or stock roms I suggest you do some reading/research. We have plenty of Q&A and guides that cover this.
Asking "how do I root" is a silly question to ask because its already been asked and answered so just look/read.
If you lost somehow your IMEI number(0 under *#06#), rooting the device won't help.
First, before any movement, backup your data and then restore defaults. Maybe it's some king of bug?
Settings->backup &restore -> restore defaults, erase memory.

CMD is command line - like MSDOS or Linux terminal. ADB is not something that you'll get by asking questions and getting answers, you need to read about it and understand it. It will take you a couple of days to figure it out.
I'd try going to several different phone shops/labs. Hopefully they will diagnose the problem without replacing the entire PCB. It's worth a shot.
If every shop says that you must replace the board, ask around. Maybe one of your friends knows someone who is able to fix this.
From what you described it seems like water damage or other hardware fault.

If you want anyone to -try to- help you get your phone back you should at least consider searching for easy questions.
Check what ROM you are on and perform a search at xda or google (or both).
Now, are you sure warranty is voided? if it was 2 years you still got time....If you root your devices, warranty will be off the table for you.
Seat back and get you sh*t together, take a long breath and then report back to see what's up.

Hi all,
I have exactly the same issue on my Galaxy S2 on Vodaphone in the UK. It's out of warranty and not rooted. I did an IOS upgrade to ICS v4.0.3 and at that point it shows no signal and the IMEI no. is blank after dialing *#06#. Somehow it has lost/corrupted the IMEI no. during the upgrade.
Is the only way to recover the IMEI no. to root the phone? Or is there another method?
Thanks all!
An iOS upgrade ? No wonder you borked your IMEI
Go to Samfirmware, find the latest stock rom for your carrier/country. Flash it with Odin. How ? Search/read/learn. If you're lucky, yours is a case where the IMEI disappearing is a transient thing & doing a 'good' flash of stock (as opposed to the update that obviously barfed in some way - I presume you're talking about an OTA update as opposed to something you did manually ?) might well fix the problem. We've seen a number of similar problems on here lately.
If you're unlucky, you're SOOL & it ain't coming back. Rooting it isn't going to magically fix it unless you have an EFS backup, which you won't have if you're someone who's never rooted their phone. Take it to a local mobile repair shop, they may be able to help. A Samsung service centre/authorised repairer will also fix it for you regardless of the warranty status, they'll just charge you more than a local mobile shop who isn't an authorised Samsung repairer will, likely.
Thank you for your response! I took the S2 to a phone repair shop, the guy tried flashing it back to stock IOS but this failed. He ended up replacing the motherboard, all fine now. The model is GT-I9100, I managed to successfully upgrade the IOS to 4.1.2 using Kies. Perhaps I should've done that first time around instead of selecting Settings-About Device-Software Update over Wifi - which resulted in the phone losing it's IMEI no.
Many thanks for the replies!
okay dude .. enjoy your JB ...
