WhatsApp is the only thing I have installed from the store on my Galaxy Nexus. Looking at their website they seem to port it to everything (Nokia S4, Symbian, Windows Phone etc.) so might end up on Ubuntu aswell.

Virtual box.... I need winblows for work and would love to be able to have a mobile workstation without using splashtop and my server at home. I am grandfathered into unlimited data on att so I don't want to blow it by teathering.

Virtualbox on arm to run x86 operating system ... That is not going to happen, virtualbox virtualizes a os it does not emulate it .. For the later you would need a very powerful CPU and it still would be slow if it would work..
Or just wait until there are x86 powered phones with Ubuntu Phone out..

i basically hope that the "app market" or whatever they will call it will be a bit more controlled than the google play store. it's good that they don't have such restrictions like apple's app store but you can find a lot of trash in there.

Yeeeeeeah that's not gonna happen for a while the high end mobile gaming industry is not really the main focus of devs when games like angry birds are ****ting all over their profits and considering the amount of work that goes into it

Thank you for that... I thought virtual box processed everything first (emulated) so I figured it may work across architectures. Well that just ruined my day, I was really getting my hopes up too. I guess I will just have to hope that good for enterprise will get an app out for it at least.

What you want is Bochs or Qemu.
Bochs is a straight emulator which means it is slow.
Qemu has several modes: emulation, translation and virtualization. Translation (of processor instructions) would be the fastest mode in this case since virtualization isn't possible, but last time I used it (a long time ago), it wasn't quite stable.

So this weekend I decided to dual boot a seperate hdd with a linux distro, I've run gnome, kde, unity and still torn between each they got their ups and downs.
What are you fellow rezounders using for your nix box setup, distros? Shell interface? Fav theme etc

dude idk when i go nix i make sure to get the muti pack. its got a really easy applicator and really keeps em away for 14 days. heres a pic of my nix box.

sorry bout that. I must say that very few people on the rez forum are running any kind of unix based OS's(beside osx). try posting in android general.
OS X FTW!!! I used to dual boot Linux mint 9, then 10, then 11 but it caused my MacBook to lag like hell

I run OSX server via VMware, smooth but I can't get accustomed to it. I love nix customization. If I didn't have alienware for gaming I'd probably be done with microshaft winblows

Mine is AMD Phenom X6 @3.5Ghz, 8GB DDR3 RAM @1666Mhz, AMD Radeon 6770. Fedora with Gnome3 is my host OS, but I often never touch the host OS. I usually work inside VMs, and I have Ubuntu 12.04, Windows 7 Enterprise, and Mac OS Server Snow Leopard set up and use Ubuntu for all my Android stuffs. I got two screens, so typically you'll see Windows 7 on the left and Ubuntu on the right.

Hmm how does Windows run in a VM box inside linux performance wise. Is it able to utilize the hardware efficiently? Or does it rely on a lot of emulation? If I up my RAM to compensate for the host and virtual system I kind of like that idea instead of Windows as host os

Windows runs great in a VM! I have a separate physical hard drive dedicated to each VM, so there is no slowdown associated with multiple OSes trying to utilize one hard drive at the same time.
Most of the devices are enumerated in some way. I use the redhat VirtIO network and storage drivers, which does give the guest OSes direct access to the networking and storage hardware. Video works ok with 3D acceleration, though I have never attempted something like gaming inside a VM. USB devices can be passed through to the guests such that the guest can directly communicate with a USB device (such as my Android phone for adb or fastboot stuff)
Generally speaking, for waht I do (mostly just webpage design and Android hacking), VMs are the perfect solution. I set it up this way originally so that I could do my web development in Windows, and then test how the page renders on different browsers and different OSes. In the past year though I've switched to where I'm really using Ubuntu as my primary OS, and only falling back to Windows when I really need to for some reason. I really love the flexibility of being able to simultaneously run many OSes on a single machine. If only I had a third monitor, then I could have Linux, Mac OS and Windows all on their own dedicated screens, sharing one keyboard and mouse! Awesome sauce!

R u kidding I tried that browser the other day it's the worst first of all the whole reason I downloaded it was to play flash videos I kept getting flash will be disabled if I have an ad blocker so I froze ad free then opened it and it still didn't work eventually I figured out that what you actually get is a 14 day trial not to mention that the browser constantly felt as if it was a work in progress it felt poorly put together it was just bad ugh this is one of the worst apps I ever used let me rephrase it was one of the most annoying 1s I used lol but seriously if anyone got the flash working properly could u enlighten me

The flash is working perfectly for me. I used the pro version. I haven't tried the trial version. It's really fast without 3G or Wifi compared to other browsers. The only think that sucks is that you won't be able to download a thing. I think it doesn't support downloading. It's the fastest browser I have ever known if your aim of surfing the net is to browse and watch and not downloading. I have also played Zynga Poker on Facebook using this browser. It's a bit laggy coz Galaxy Y doesn't fully supports flash.

What puffin and opera state is nothing new they run the data through they're servers and bring it back to you the thing about that is that sometimes it can omit a full web experience that's why I use opera mini (the smaller 1) for light tasks probably reading some info and I use dolphin for everything else

Hello Everyone,
Since our S4s use a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, you will not be able to find games/apps that are specific to each device, such as phones that use the NVIDIA Tegra processor.
This Mod will allow you to find, buy and install games from the Play Store that normally wouldn't be available for users using a stock S4 ROM.
Also, this was not discovered by me - I just found this on some sites and thought I should share the info :silly:
Disclaimer: As always, I am not responsible for any damages this may cause to your device. Proceed at own risk.
This works by fooling the Play Store into thinking you're using a different device.
INSTRUCTIONS
Get Root Access.
. Using a program such as Root Explorer, work your way to the following folder:
Code:
[B]/system[/B]
Make sure you have Read and Write Access (do this by hitting the "Mount R/W" button at the top in Root Explorer)
Long press "build.prop" and hit "Open in Text Editor"
Locate the line where it says:

[B]ro.product.device=**********[/B]
Change whatever it says in there to 'olympus'. So you should now see:

[B]ro.product.device=olympus[/B]
Reboot phone.
You should now be able to view and download Tegra apps from the Play Store.
Remember to hit Thanks if I helped you out in anyway Cheers!
Note: Since these games are developed for Tegra devices, they may be a tad bit glitchy. However, I've tried a few games out and they seem to work perfectly fine!
UPDATE: Even though changing the build.prop will give you access to more games, Tegra Exclusive games still don't seem to be working. If I find anymore information, I will update this thread.

I'm getting wild blood now! Still won't let me download nba jam. Happen to know galaxy S3 build prop? I was able to play on my old G3. Strange, rayman jungle run still says it's incompatible? That's all right I ended up paying twice for it. Bought it off amazon market

Nova 3,butter smooth frame rates! The cut scenes and game play looks unreal! It actually looks like councel quality. I hear this term thrown around but this time your hearing it from a gamer! Got all my games besides NBA jam. Tried maguro! Toro, D2vzw and none work. If anyone finds one that works or a trick that works like clearing market data please let me know. I love that game! Just found the best way to get the most apps to show up in the play store.
Best way to have the device set up is as follows.
ro.product.device=softwin
I am attaching 4 pictures just to show 2 apps that are missing in the top paid apps list.
Using d2att leaves a few apps still missing in the play store.
Using
ro.product.device=softwin (will give you more apps as ive seen. Two for example are max payne, 9mm and the game of life)
ro.product.device=softwin seems to be the best. I found this on one of my other android devices..... lol
If anyone can report back if they see more apps in the list as I do it woipd be great.

You should really try
ro.product.device=softwin
this will give you a lot more apps in the play store list.
Make sure you reboot.
Then use the phone for about 5 minutes and check multiple times for NBA Jam in the Play Store or even just NBA.
More apps then that will be added to your play store app list

Awesome! Which device is that for?
Its for one of my JXD Devices. Its not a phone, its not a tablet but it runs android amazingly.
My only question is we can get all these apps to show in the play store. 90% of them work.
But a select few dont, like 9mm, real boxing and a few others I cant rwmember right now.
9mm says Device not compatible.
Real Boxing gives a non Tegra Processor message once in the main menu.
Is there a fix for these two problems im describing for 9mm and Real Boxing that I just have not found on the XDA Forums and google?????

I restarted the phone after making the change.
Then go in the the play storw and search for it. Should come up after a few minutes doing multiple searches.
Think it takes time for playstore to load the new apps.

Anyone noticing issue's with HD play back on this tablet? I usually had an HD button to select for my HD movies and I can not find it on this new Device.

[Edit] Strangely it seems to only be some movies and shows. I can go back on my Note 2 and check download sizes and this tablet is definitely getting marked as a non HD device on movies like Hangover 3, but my North America documentary will be in HD on the Tablet. Some reason different films are detecting the device differently. Going to try some more films.
[Edit 2] Now I am getting random messages that it can not fetch the license any more. Error 806
This is happening on movies that did work earlier on the device.
[Last Edit for reals] Did more digging around, for a vast majority of movies and shows on Google Play, this tablet is listed as either incompatible, or can not stream HD. Obviously this is wrong and Google will need to update their app. I've sent Google feedback on this, hopefully getting a response on when our HD tablets can actually play Googles HD movies.
Movies from the Samsung HUB do work as advertised. I've only found 720p however and those are pretty small in numbers.
Today there was an update along with the Play Store I believe and that has fixed everything. Our tablets are recognized as HD and all my license issues have been fixed.
If anyone hasn't gotten the update yet, be sure to restart your tablets to try and force the update.

just to clarify, this is a system update, or a play store app update??
It was a play store auto update. Not an OTA. We won't actually get notified it happened. The Play Store will have a menu that appears when you gesture right or press the top left icon. Once I got that the Movies & TV app worked perfect for this Tablet.

thats the new version of the play store, 4.4.21. I have that already, but my tablet still says that hd playback is not available on this device perhaps there is something else im missing?
Well all my HD movies I own will play back in HD now, with the red HD button besides the CC button. I just checked some new Releases movies and those do indeed say my Tablet is not supported for HD during the Checkout process.
But I do have new movies like The Internship and The Conjuring that play HD correctly.
I'm not sure why checkout still says our Tablets do not support HD on some films, but play HD just fine when played from My Movies.

ok, I dont actually own any movies or rentals for the Play Store yet (I was going to spend some of the Play Store credit I just got on some) so i cant really test that. But I appreciate the input.

Now today, my movies again refuse to play HD even though I have HD versions downloaded to the tablet. I'm just going on a limb saying that this is all some weird temperament glitch in Google's movie system. Some days it has HD, some not. Some days it can't get my license for the tablet but can for everything else, some days it does.
From everything I been able to see this is mostly on Google's end. Going off the facts that success is random.

Anyone hear anything else about this? Can't play any of my own movies on Google Play. Don't even have the HD option. YouTube doesn't even play in full hd, even thought the HQ button is clicked. Annoyed as hell..

Also having this issue. I have 7 HD Play Movies, not one plays streams or downloads in HD. Oddly, I have a TV series from the Play Store that plays in HD, although it's 720p. Perhaps there's an issue with 1080p content. YouTube also looks rubbish on my device. I did buy my 10.1 from the US, so I did think the issue was some kind of regional DRM problem; now I'm not so sure. I contacted Google who said the 10.1 2014 is fully supported their end, and that I should contact Samsung.
Its still been very odd and random. I been trying to complain to both Samsung and Google Play. Both insist its the fault of the other guy. Or that its some how my error with my internet bandwidth.
I am certain though its Googles fault as I have been able to get everything to randomly play HD and even start downloading HD before. Its rare, but HD does stream at times.
I've noticed that my Note 3 also will play SD instead of HD now as well. Its very annoying. I almost want to just get movies directly from Samsung now since those play HD fine. Their selection is just horrible though.

Looking at the list of compatible devices in the link they provided, the 2014 edition is listed, so I'm not sure why they sent you that response.
As I type this, both my 2014 Note and Note 3 are playing and downloading HD. Perhaps a new update came out? Or it was internal with Google's server's as we thought.

Mine is also now working out of nowhere. Full HD in Google Play Movies and YouTube.
My video quality is still not full HD on YouTube. Can't comment on Play Movies as I don't use it.
I just got my 12.2 LTE and will be collecting my free Samsung BT keyboard soon, I am wondering is there anyone who have tried the Samsung S Mouse with the keyboard for "desktop"like experience. Does it in anyway enhance the use of note pro as a laptop? The S Mouse is not cheap, is it worth getting? Thanks for sharing.

I don't know if it offers any different functionality than a standard Bluetooth mouse, but I use both a bt mouse and a bt keyboard that has a built in track pad for remote pc connection and it works great as a laptop replacement, with one exception: in android, Google gas decided to map the right mouse button to the "back" function. Supposedly Citrix is going to overwrite that function with their newer update sometime in April.

You can, but they will be jumpy. I usually just use the trackpad, but if I use a different bt keyboard I use the mouse, or I can shut off the trackpad portion of my main bt deck.

Where do you live? I bought my 12.2 at best buy about a week ago and no such promotion for free hardware.. From Samsung after registering, the best I got was $25 credit from playstore and $25 or $50 via samsung hub. The rest were service offers I cared less about and required credit card sign up.

The S action mouse is the best one i've used on a android device!I used several ones before and sometimes the disconnected or i had to switch them on and off to make them work again,not with the samsung mouse!And the extra buttons for multiwindow and resent apps are great.I use it in combination with the samsung keyboard and that's no problem.

The screen size is about right. I'll have a strong feeling that I'll be leaving my notebook behind in my biz trips. The note pro is certainly a notebook replacement.

Agree. I have been using the note pro for more than a month now with the logetich keyboard and to be honest it is actually replacing my tablet needs. And with the mouse you will have more freedom with the device as well.

Under language settings set it to disable on screen keyboard when a bt one is connected. You should see it if you look with the logitech connected. If not download external keyvoard helper and that issue will vanish entirely. And hancom is as good as it gets so far. Its perfect for me I dont need anything it doesnt offer as I only do writing and a little excell. You ahould combine it with a remote pc app.

S mouse & hancom word word count
All the things people listed they can do with thev $50 s mouse, I can do with the BT keyboards I have that cost no more than $25 each and the commands seem more convenient to me than on a mouse. I am going nuts trying to find WORD COUNT in Hancom Word....is it there or is it missing. Also the TOOLS menu isn't always visible. Anyone know how to keep it visible???
