4.2 Bluetooth audio issues - Google fix coming - HTC One X+

For Those Running Custom Roms
Google have acknowledged an issue with the current audio (both phone and media) over Bluetooth and say a fix will be coming in the 4.2.2 update

But does this apply to HOX+? Since I think most ROM are running on some 4.1 base. I think there is an unofficial CM 10.1 for HOX+ international? But us AT&T and Telus users have had BT issues with our 4.1 based ROMS.
And even if there is a google related fix coming in 4.2.2, I'm not sure if it will be rolled into all the 4.1 ROMs.

No, it doesn't apply to the HOX+ problem. The BT problem that they will fix was introduced with 4.2 on all Nexus devices especially the N7 and Gnex. I cannot pair my N7 with my BT portable speakers anymore. it is totally broken. Same on my old GNex.

Ok. That's what I thought. Confusing OP post.
I'm not sure if I have pairing problems. But my HOX+ does not auto-connect to my Jabra Cruiser 2 BT speakerphone. I always need to manually connect with the HOX+. My fiance's iPhone 4s reconnects every time without problem to the Jabra. And my old Moto BT headset reconnects with HOX+ no problem. So i'm not sure where the issue lies...

Yes it does apply to the HOX+ but only those running the custom roms I.E those based on 4.2 which is why i mentioned 4.2 in the body text.
Ill change the title to reduce the confusion
EDIT - cant change the title right now

theres rumour and gossip that 4.2.2 is out in teh wild but we have to wait for it to either hit HTC's upgrade cycle or the code release for cutom roms depending on what you run on your phone

[Q] Question about Galaxy Player 4.2 's DAC

Does anyone know for sure if the 4.2 has the Wolfson DAC or does it have the Yamaha DAC like the 5.0's?
I looked, looked and looked but so far there's no confirmation on what DAC the 4.2 has.
Thanks!
Anyone?

Got it!
Now I can finally decide on getting the 4.0 or 4.2 not having to worry about the DAC on the 4.2 being a Yamaha one.
Thanks so much for looking it up!

No problem. Also I recommend to take the 4.0 as it is cheaper and it have voodoo sound now. (it has more features but it's up to you.)

I agree with you, having the Voodoo mod available for the 4.0 is a huge plus.
So far there's a lot of resource for the 4.0 where as the 4.2, I was not even able to root it, all the 4.0 methods won't work on the 4.2. It's going to take a while for solutions to pop up for the 4.2.
I bought the 4.0 for $149 at Bestbuy today and the 4.2 is on sale for $179 this week so I was thinking I would get them both and then return one of them. Best Buy recently changed their return policy to 30 days (used to be 14 days) which is helpful.
The features I like about the 4.2 are the front speaker, larger batteries and the less of the chrome trim like on the 4.0. Also it has the newer version of the touchwiz which is much nicer than the one on the 4.0.
Do you have any opinion on which stable custom rom will give me the newer version of tourchwiz like on the 4.2? I really can't stand the lock screen on the 4.0.
Thanks again for everything.
If you don't mind battery life you have CM7 and if you want a custom stock rom try klin's klassic. Also the gpu on the 4.0 is better as well as the Web browsing.
Sent from my YP-G1 using xda premium
I read about the Klassic Rom and also the CM7 but decided to wait because of the issues users reporting with them.
I need a stable mp3 player with good battery life which the 4.0 is out of the box but just wish it had the newer version of Touchwiz like the one on the 4.2.
I wish there is a rom out there with just that and no other tweeks.
I think I will pick up a 4.2 tomorrow and give it another go to see which one I like more.
Would you mind posting after you compare the two? I've been looking for a media player to replace my wife's aging Archos 605 wifi. The Galaxy player series looks nice but I wanted something mod-able which the 4.2 doesn't look like it's it.
I've really been trying to decide between the 5.0 and the 4.0 so I can run a custom rom.

I just picked up a 4.2 today, I think I will keep it and wait till the talented moder's here to come up with something nice for it. The most important thing that I decided today was that I can live with it the way it is out of the box so any enhancements that becomes available later is just gravy.
Compared to the 4.0 it feels a lot more "current", which I know is a highly subjective opinion but the 4.0 with the rounded corners and thick chrome border/bezel it reminds me of the old iphone which I hated.
Also the 4.2 run 2.3.6 vs the 4.0 running 2.3.5. The 4.2 has a newer version of Touchwiz which is much better than the one on the 4.0.
The media player on the 4.2 is also a newer version with some DSP features not found on the 4.0.
The 5.0 runs 2.3.5 so it should be pretty similar to the 4.0 since they came out at the same time.
I personally think 4.2 is the best overall size for my application which is an mp3 player for while I'm driving. I checked out the 5.0 at the store today and there is no way I can use it one-handed which is a deal breaker. Also, I already own a tablet so I really don't need the extra screen size on the 5.0 in a mp3 player.
If you live close by a Best Buy you should just go and play with all of them.
Cheers.

yea, that's kind of the feeling i was getting. the player would be for the wife, and i really don't think in the long run she cares about root, or ICS or etc. she just wants something that works, that she can plug into her car stereo and play mp3's. the 4.2 is newer with a better battery and newer OS so i'll probably go that route.
thanks for the insight.
i got the 4.2 and so far i am loving it. i am upset about the no root solution yet but hopefully soon. but for now i am having 1 problem. acording to samsung, the front facing camera is unable to be used for video. which is true in every app except skype. so theres a problem with that. however when it gets a root, i bet it can be fixed.
I owned a 4.0 and sold it as soon as I caught a glimpse of the 4.2. I like it a lot more than 4.0. The processor and battery r both better. And it doesnt look like a brick .

I don't have any problems OC it to 1.2 or 1.3 Ghz. I didin't tried 1.5 Ghz though.
Galaxy Player 4.2 DAC is Wolfson WM1811
I just have my Galaxy Player 4.2 torn down and found Wolfson WM1811 DAC, the same DAC in Galaxy S3.

Pershoot is working on the 4.2 ROM (cyanogenmod), if it's stable enough in his eyes to share it, he will, he owes us nothing, so don't push him to share it, i myself am also using and changing android 4.2 which is pretty unstable on my tab right now, i have no bluetooth, cam, audio, and mic for now, i do not notice any performance changes.
Samsung will not send out a 4.2 update fo rthe Galaxy tab 10.1

Desperate for 4.2 solely for the MULTI-USER setup since this is a general tab that will be used with anyone...
Don't know if I should wait it out or install CyanogenMod 10.1 now...
Hmmm. Worried about losing features and connectivity with my Samsung TV.

[Q] [C10-4.1.2] why the sound is so low? [explanation]

Hello all,
ok for now i'm on
CM10 4.1.2 6/1/13

I tested some mod like acid audio, beat audio installer, awesome beat and many other, but it's impossible have the same "loud sound" we have on sense based rom...
why?

maybe it helps if I explain it here again for the future
the issue is that HTC is not delivering JB compatible audio drivers
with stock ROMS. We rely on this closed source drivers on tegra devices.
Fortunately we found a workaround by using the ICS drivers from the HOX
but those doesnt have propper support for the special HW that we
have in the HOX+ like the speaker amplifier
Nevertheless we using the international version are pretty happy
that this workaround actually works - whereas for the AT&T version
this HTC failure leads to an actual "dead-end" since voice call
audio is not working on this device

thank you very much for the explanation. I hope so that it will help others.
I added [explanation] in the title
I actually find the audio volume very good on the CM10 and AOKP 4.1 releases for international phones. For me the big difference is running a 4.2 based rom where the volume is much lower.

4.2.2.. does anyone know what is to come?

I'm really surprised after looking into this phone that it's only running 4.2.2 considering it's being release just a couple weeks before the note 3.. Does have news on whether it will be getting 4.3.. or kitkat?
Kitkat may be far away since nexus five is not yet unveiled, I guess

It will at least get 4.3 I would guess since it doesn't make much sense to have the new OpenGL 3.0 capable 330 GPU and only have an OS that supports OpenGL 2.0 stay on the phone. How quickly we will get this is anyone's guess however. I saw that google is already on 4.3_r3 which means they are still merging tweaks and fixes to the 4.3 release. LG may be integrating these and waiting for a stable code base to release with.

4.3 on my Gnex screams, I can only imagine on the monster that is the G2!
Im hoping we get KitKat but will settle for 4.3 for now.
LG is also doing all of the multitasking stuff that Samsung has been doing for the note 2 for the first time I believe. They probably started development with 4.2 or 4.2.1 and before release integrated 4.2.2. Integrating 4.3 before release would have pushed the release window too far behind the note 3 for them to stay competitive. They likely decided to release with 4.2.2 while already updating to 4.3 in another code tree, or plan to wait till 4.4 to give us a new OS version based update. All speculation, but it makes sense to me at least .
I'd hate to say it but LG + AT&T ugh I wouldn't hold my breath lol first of the year maybe at the earliest for 4.3
I'm hoping to go direct to 4.4 personally. Hopefully LG has had lots of access with the n5 to get a head start on it.

You're making me excited! My Galaxy Nexus is also super fast on 4.3. I can only imagine how blazing fast the G2 will be with CyanogenMod 10.2. Oh, it makes me quiver with excitement.
I have the T-Mobile variant. They have been on a big "be the best carrier" push, so I wouldn't doubt getting a new firmware update before the other carrier phones
Screw Android 4.3 At this point I want LG to release an update to Android 4.4.2 KitKat next year because we know Android is going to release some minor patches after Android 4.4 is released.
hmm yep you're right
why 4.2.2 at the first position instead 4.3
but since the major changelogs from 4.2.2 to 4.3 are about the bluetooth thingy and open GL thingy
for me it doesn't matter
since this beast can do all the things that a phone should do
who knows maybe after this, the first jump is kitkat
imho

4.3 re-wrote a lot of behind the scenes stuff. Memory management and garbage collection seem MUCH better. My Gnex has never been so fast as it is on 4.3.
BUT part of the bluetooth rewrite has caused my phone to reboot on re-connection to my car head unit. A few others have experienced the same issue, across different ROMs as well so it very well may be an issue with the Android source code. Hopefully Le Goog fixes it because the rest of 4.3 is awesome. And FWIW 4.3 is the first version that actually streams the bluethooth metadata correctly so I can see artist/album/track info on my head unit now.

I dont want 4.3 on this phone becuz it gives lg an excuse not to give 4.4. At this point i only want 4.4 becuz i expect more features to be added which includes all the 4.3 features.

CyangoenMod vs GE Rom vs Sense 5.0

I've searched the threads looking for these topics and can't find anything comprehensive.
I have my stock, rooted HTC One right now running Stock Sense 5.0
I absolutely loved Cyanogenmod on my Galaxy S3, as it was simple, improved battery life over TouchWiz, and was all around smoother.
I'm just wanting some compare and contrast to help me decide whether to stay stock or go custom. Not really looking for anything in specific as far as details go. I know the basics, such as Beats/Blinkfeed won't run on CM due to being Sense based, etc.
I also hear that battery life on CM is actually worse than Sense. Is this true?
Any opinion is welcome!
It all depends on your usage you really need to just try them out for yourself.

I wouldn't let beats affect your decision. It's terrible.

Well. I wouldn't let it affect me, if I was able to find another system wide EQ
I've run Stock, CM 10.1.3-RC2, CM 10.1.3 Stable, and I'm now on the GPE conversion. I've had fairly similar battery life across everything I've tried, but I would give an edge to the GPE for my usage.
A few months ago CM was able to figure out the Boomsound. The speakers are AWESOME on latest CM now. Just as loud and good as Beats is.

That's nice! Maybe once 10.2 Stables release I'd be much less hesitant to switch.
My big thing is I'll miss Blinkfeed. Believe it or not, I actually enjoy getting updates on my favorite games and whatnot from it, and with sense 5.5 coming out, it's going to get nothing but better.
I love CyanogenMod. I wish I could port Blinkfeed and Zoe onto CM, though I know it's HIGHLY unlikely, with the two being so dependent on the Sense mod.
