Whats the chance of getting CM7 on the SGS2?
Is the SGS a fully supported CM7 phone?
I'm a HTC man myself (DHD atm), but the SGS2 is looking mildly tempting due to the AMOLED screen, loud speaker and great .mkv playback capabilities as I watch quite a bit of video.
I am leaning more towards the Sensation due to the 16:9 qHD screen and the fact I've never been let down by a HTC device yet.
But I've really got used to CM7. Whilst I'm sure the Sensation will get CM7 on it... at some point, I reckon the SGS2 will get it first.
It's a big hmmmmmmmm from me atm
Very doubtfull you will see any custom roms on HTC now mate because there locking bootloaders
The device hasn't even been rooted yet but I'd say it's only a matter of time. If it's a deciding factor for you then hang fire but I'm actually quite liking touchwiz 4 and that's something I never thought I'd say.

Samsung is very good about releasing source, just check http://opensource.samsung.com they will post the source within a few weeks I'm sure.
sorry to ask this noob question, but why do you need cm7 on this phone? is it laggy? lacking features ?

Because this forum is for developers and development of ROMs, otherwise why would you be on this forum
some people want root regardless as they like to tinker.
also enables useful features like
titanium backup / Clock recovery so you can easily backup/clone your phone state
overclock (speed) / undervolt (battery)
CIFs for mounting windows shares or presenting itself as a windows share (very useful esp over wifi, look ma no cables)
get rid of touchwiz and other preinstalled stuff (I haven't used touchwiz 4 but I like stock android and I'm a speed freak)
I never rooted/custom ROMed my nexus one (as I love stock android) but it was the first thing I did to my galaxy tab and will be the first on my list with any non stock android phone

There's a chance it might get cm7 but it'll require a lot of work, the current sgs has cm7 but its still in alpha stage since samsung doesn't release the source for its proprietary drivers, everything has to be made from scratch(ie. time consuming). I don't think anyone whose working on cm7 for the sgs wants to do this again.

all upcoming HTC devices will have locked bootloader, plus i strongly doubt we're going to see CM7 on SGS2 since Samsung doesnt release (or at least not so far) the source code of the drivers.
wait, does this mean no custom ROMs for SGS2 or rather they will just be less drastic modifications?
for example I don't think the galaxy tab custom ROMs use written from scratch drivers.
sorry new to custom roms.
There will be plenty of custom ROMS. Just not AOSP rom anytime soon.
Basically with AOSP you will loose a lot which includes all the multimedia capabilities ( ability to play many containers and codecs natively with hardware acceleration ), hardware GPU acceleration in browser, probably MHL link and HD recording.
There are very few people who will be ready to give up all this to get AOSP rom for this phone.
well it's rooted already isn't it?

Man,never been a big fan of CM Roms, have moved to MIUI Froyo Rom{now with Formels MIUI Android 2.3 Rom},,tried CM many times but battery drain & other force close issues were in plenty.MIUI works best with my Nexus 1,,extremely fast, smooth, less battery drain ROM.
As far as Sensation goes,i hope it will be rooted, also it will be by June end when both SGS 2 & Senation will be launched in my region,so will have clear idea as to which one is getting more devs support{as xda support is what is most important for me rather than the phone itself}.
Have such a great time with N1.

Not only Cyanogen, there are various different devs with their custom roms, but CM is used in most of the droids.
Samsung Galaxy S has a pathetic lag issue/faulty gps issue.
Even after so many lagfixes & workaround{in various roms},it still is very fragile.
Therefore you will definitely see people asking about SGS 2 lag issue or any GPS issue{hopefully GPS is great here in SGS 2 by default compare to quite pathetic in SGS}

As I said, I'm a HTC fan, but one thing I am not is a Sense fan! I can only presume that will extend to TW, although I have never tried it. I also like to run my phone at 190dpi instead of the standard 240dpi that most phones run at. And with Sense at least, when you change to anything other than 240dpi, it does not like it one bit!

It's not rooted... it's bootloader unlocked. Not the same. Bootloader unlocked can lead you to root, root can't lead you to bootloader unlocking.
The guys over at the desire hd forum section have come up with a custom rom for the device made out of a leaked ruu from the unreleased HTC Runnymede. The rom has one feature that will certainly be very desirable in the next couple of weeks, Beats Audio. Now as i understand, the beats integration should be mostly software(like the beats audio laptops from HP). SO, the question is that can it be soft ported to the SGSII?
p.s. oh and if im in the wrong section, do tell
BTW, HTC Sensation XE is another beats audio device(can be used as anothet source!)
Fantastic idea. Would love to see this at our sgs2.
Maybe you could contact the vodoo developer. It think it's supercio. He's is very friendly.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Although he is a very friendly person indeed, I doubt that he'll start implementing this for SGS2. The reason is the same as for the lack of Voodoo Sound feature, a different and a bit less efficient sound chip used in SGS2 (The original SGS has Wolfson WM8994 and Samsung replaced it with Yamaha MC-1N2 in SGS2). I'd see it more likely for the original SGS :-/
people telling Cyanogen much better
oh and The Galaxy S II uses audio hardware manufactured and branded by Yamaha
Doesnt matter who made the hardware.. Do you think they put monster equipment in all hp laptops? As with all such marketing gimmicks, this has to be software based tweaks and heaven knows we need better audio output
great idea !! anyone tried it on other hardware ?? is it working with monster beats without pilot or it neets to be with pilot edition ?? and will there work monster beats with pilot (iphone edition) i mean as i know ther is diffrent polarisation in jacks... so we need to wait for new editions of earphones ??
Im supporting this yeahh.. must admit that the audio output ftom sgs2 is weak indeed.. my old htc desire sounds better even with cheaper earphones... and i really dont like the 'fakeness bass sound' in SGS2
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
(UNRELATED QUESTION) i just recalled another feature in our phones that needed some usage, fm transmission. I read somewhere on xda before launch that the broadcom chipset inside had nnot only BT 4.0 but also this capability. I for one, think that fm transmission is one killer feature

Not only that, but you'd think those developers would agree that since audio on the SGS2 is actually worse, the need for such software is even greater... I can't understand why they won't develop it where it's obviously most needed...

Put simply, the sound from the S2 is FLAT with hardly any bass. You may also hear regular interference like hissing sounds due to the phone's design.
Even simpler, the audio output of the S2 = horrible

But does this apply to HOX+? Since I think most ROM are running on some 4.1 base. I think there is an unofficial CM 10.1 for HOX+ international? But us AT&T and Telus users have had BT issues with our 4.1 based ROMS.
And even if there is a google related fix coming in 4.2.2, I'm not sure if it will be rolled into all the 4.1 ROMs.

No, it doesn't apply to the HOX+ problem. The BT problem that they will fix was introduced with 4.2 on all Nexus devices especially the N7 and Gnex. I cannot pair my N7 with my BT portable speakers anymore. it is totally broken. Same on my old GNex.

Ok. That's what I thought. Confusing OP post.
I'm not sure if I have pairing problems. But my HOX+ does not auto-connect to my Jabra Cruiser 2 BT speakerphone. I always need to manually connect with the HOX+. My fiance's iPhone 4s reconnects every time without problem to the Jabra. And my old Moto BT headset reconnects with HOX+ no problem. So i'm not sure where the issue lies...

Yes it does apply to the HOX+ but only those running the custom roms I.E those based on 4.2 which is why i mentioned 4.2 in the body text.

This thread is about the actual functionality of the New Jelly Bean update for the Desire X
and not whether you have it or not. Thats discussed on other threads.
I have come from Froyo on the Wildfire to the DX with ICS...well i can still do all what i have done in the past, but much better.
What improvements will JB bring to the DX. Can some one explain what we should see.
I have seen some one already explain, but it would be nice to get another point of view.
Some have issues and some dont, it confusing for us noobs:silly:
What is the hype behind it.
The reason why i am concerned is that some guys want to revert back to ICS, and thats not what it should be. JB should be an improvement.
lastly, the few hicups people have with the latest JB, could it be to an app or user related issue.

Same as you I have came from Froyo to Jelly Bean itself first of all the update was great Speed improvements were there (example is scrolling wallpapers in personalize its feels like the HTC One. Second the new software We all know Beats audio got screwed up by the OTA but HTC fixed it with anothe OTA and now bass is back This Update also enables us to test new software and to discover new things with Sense 4+ and also a feel of Jelly Bean, remember not all devices could get an update from their own manufacturers so were lucky enough to get this lol now we just need to deodex the stock JB ROM and custom ROMs would be all over the forum (I could do one now just no time to deodex the JB Stock ROM).
Wow, this is a positive post. Positive info that i expected.

See it this way,
Jelly bean is the LATEST android OS (although 4.2 > 4.1) but still, the CURRENT SUPER PHONE (HTC ONE) which gives Galaxy IV a scare, was also on 4.1.2 and will get 4.2.2 in a few days. So technically, after JB update, we are having one of the most updated devices around for such money.
Think again what happens to similarly priced samsung n sony phones, (believe me, most are stuck at ICS officially forever).
ON-TOPIC:
JB Sense4+ might not be what you expect, BUT the kernel source code, and libs will enable atis112 and others to port FULLY WORKING CM10 ROMS with Project Butter.
We'll soon get kernel 3.4 source which will be a platform for YEARS to come and keep this device alive. believe me.
My cousins with xperia U/sola, galaxy duos, etc will be stuck @ ICS officially.

Although i dont understand your last sentence, but it does sound good any way.
I said yesterday that Jelly bean is not so cool..i was stupid, its f....n awesome. Its faster than ICS, web browser and downaloading too. Right now my download speed is 2,5mb/s. With ICS it was hardly reach 1mb/s. Google Now is really good, i can search the nearest restaurent with my voice and it supports hungarian so its good for those who dont speak english (like me )

I'd like to say something on this thing since Yasir already mentioned it(sorry op kind of off-topic)
the 3.4 kernel is actually very exciting because currently barring HTC jb devices this is present on only the latest nexus devices(4, 10) only even nexus 7 is on 3.1 and Samsung devices(yes even s3) is on 3.0 .Thus we are currently on the latest version (officially not true android on 3.8 but we are one of the top few and latest currently) . Also this proves that HTC put a lot of effort (yeah was a Samsung Guy so I know what I'm talking about) thus according to me we should get 4.2 also(surity of about 83%) the real question will be if we get 5.0 or not.
PS I like the stripped down sense.
Htc One X JB kernel : 3.1
Wow, Desire X has a newer kernel, awesome.

Really frustratring to have a Verizon Note 2 and a Nexus 10 and can't enjoy FULL USB Audio Support. I have two DACs that work with USB Audio Recoder PRO, but I'd like to use that DACs with other apps, not just that app which isn't meant for music playback.
I asked this in the Nexus 10 forum and they said that the rom devs there just aren't interested in this feature (this is really frustrating considering there is a Nexus 7 rom/kernel [Timur?] that supports this, but not Nexus 10). I really don't want to root, unlock and go to the custom rom route with the Verizon Note 2, but the frustration is getting to me.
Any Verizon Note 2 ROMS and/or kernels provide full USB audio support such that I can take my dacs, plug them in via USB OTG, and enjoy audio not just from the USB Audio Recorder Pro App?
My dacs are Fiio E07k and Hifimediy Sabre, if it matters.
Thanks!!

Well USB OTG works fine for me on stock and all stock based roms and it also works perfectly for me on Vanilla Rootbox, CM, and all AOSP Roms with Plasma Kernel instead of the stock AOSP kernel.
As for if it supports USB audio, I would think it might but as I don't have a pair of USB headphones I honestly cannot tell you. I have seen threads where people connected their Note 2 to their vehicle through USB OTG and had full audio but I don't know what they were running.
Something else that may be useful to you just in case none of our kernels have USB audio support, there have been quite a few reports that the N7105, AT&T Note 2, and T-Mobile Note 2 kernels work perfectly on our phone. The N7100 kernels don't of course and the Sprint kernels don't because they write to a different block. Using a Sprint kernel can cause soft, and possibly hard, bricks but using kernels from the variants listed should work just fine.

Thanks, but I am well aware and participate in that thread. The problem with that is I don't see anything in there about VERIZON Note 2 and most DACs like the ones I have, nor do I see anything about roms/kernels for Verizon Note 2 that make most, if not all, DACs work with Verizon Note 2.
For example, apparently Fiio E07k is recognized and works with International Note 2, but not Verizon Note 2. Like I said, it is really frustrating to have a Verizon Note 2 and Nexus 10 and not be able to simply connect any (like the ones i have) DACs to USB OTG to the phone and use them without that USB Audio Recorder Pro app.
After getting shot down in the Nexus 10 forum, I was (Still am) hoping that someone might be able to say, "Oh yeah, so and so rom that you can get here makes most, if not all, DACs compatible without having to use USB Audio Recorder Pro."
But if that isn't the case, that isn't the case.
Thanks anyways (or in advance if anyone can help out)

The reason you don't see the VZW version of the Note 2 mentioned is because not many of us bother with setting up and using DACs on out phones. All the Note 2s have the exact same internals, except for the N7100 which has different radios, the only real difference is the software and what VZW chose to block.
I would suggest you try these kernels, and Roms like CleanROm ACE since it is based on the internationals stock ROM, out for yourself and see if they have the features you are looking for instead of being rude to people who try to help you.
For instance, and I don't know if this will help or not, I have DAC oversampling and DAC Direct in Plasma kernel.

I wasn't trying to be rude (my apologies if it sounded like that), but like I said, the frustration level of having Nexus 10 and Verizon Note 2 and not being able to properly use my DACs outside of USB Audio Recorder Pro App is frustrating. Doubly frustrating that nobody can point me to a kernel and/rom for the Nexus 10. And head-fi has been no help, and I did place my query there in that thread. No response.
I was hoping that I might get a first hand account of someone with a Verizon Note 2 who has a custom rom and/or kernel and is able to make this work (so I know which one to use) rather than experimenting with various combos, especially since my Verizon Note 2 is paid for by my work.
Nonetheless, your suggestion of using a ROM based on the int'l version makes sense. Plasma Kernel + CleanROM Ace sounds like it might be worth trying.
Thank you. Again, if anyone has any first hand experiences of making this work, please let me (us) know.

I'm sorry I don't have any DAC's so I can't help you but just so you know the plasma kernel is only for aosp based roms, cleanrom ace is a touchwiz rom so you can't use them together. I find it odd though that he's basically saying you can do it on an aosp kernel for the n2 when you can't find one for a nexus device, which of course has a ton of more aosp development, but Shangrila knows what he's talking about more than I do.

I'm not saying you can do it for sure as I do not have a pair, all I am saying is that is what options are present in the kernel. Just because the kernel devs for the Nexus haven't built the features in don't mean they can't be built in, a lot of kernel devs only include stuff they want or use. I still haven't found an AOSP kernel with ext4 support built in, I know it can be done because KT747 has/had it but I have yet to see it on the Note 2 (and I mean all the variants).
As for Cleanrom ACE the only reason I mentioned that is because he said it works fine on the international N2, if that is true then the only difference would be the rom ( meaning VZW took that feature away like they did with so many others).
Here is a screenshot of the settings in STweaks, as I said I don't know if it will work or help but the settings are present.
And OP, joshm is right. You can't use Plasma and Cleanrom together. I had assumed you would know that seeing as how you were talking a lot about kernels I assumed you had flashed quite a few for the N2 and tested it already. If you haven't you need to, the only way to find out for sure is to test it yourself.

Completely forgot to check back. I am, as I type this, using a DAC with my Note 2 without using an special software. Setup: Note 2, Beans 19, Latest Perseus Kernel(didn't change any of the options; In fact, I flashed it just to test this). Phone -> OTG -> Hifimediy Sabre DAC (new tiny version) -> Sennheiser HD-650's. I have tested several albums with PowerAmp and everything works as expected. I also tested this with the lastest Sabre kernel and everything worked as well. Since, you have an N10, I'll try to test that later as well.
