I just got a s3 from a work buddy and the phone is in good condition. But the phone randomly is turned off, I had thought maybe the battery was being knocked loose and causing it but after a few test I tried nothing seemed to cause it to be off. I also know the phone really does it at random because yesterday I looked down at my phone and saw I had a notification, about 30 minutes later I look down again and notice it's not blinking now and yet again off and I did not touch it at all.
Look after sudden death in general section.....
Better return it to your friend.

Ok sorry if this has already been discussed but I'm kinda in a hurry. I'm having an issue where if I tell the phone to reboot or even power off, it will just turn off and not come back up without a battery pull. Last time I told it to reboot (fastboot off btw), it turned off, then the red led came on for a few seconds, then it just stayed off. I've noticed that the only way around this is to pull the battery and then try to boot it up, which works fine but is annoying as hell. Is this a common issue or what, trying to get some opinions on whether or not to try to exchange it before I get off work and go outta town.
Try a factory reset. Still no luck, then take it back

Well, I hanging on to this 3VO for right now at least, still hoping to hear from more people. Actually, I hope this isn't a real problem with the 3D's in general and that mine is a somewhat isolated incident. Bad comes to worse, I swap for a new one or the GS2 at the end of the month.
I had that problem for a day on mine, and after that it never happened again.

Oddly enough, same here I think. It happened a couple times during the first 2 days maybe and hasn't done it since... weird...
Mine was having the problem where if I restarted it would just power down. Then it got to where I had to pull the battery to get it to turn back on. Took it back yesterday.

I have the same problem after restarting I had to pull battery. I think its just a bug the phone works perfect other than that.

i swear i have the worst luck. haven't even had the phone a day and already i went to check the time and the phone was off and wouldn't turn back on, had to pull the battery. now just a few min ago i felt a vibration in my pocket so i took the phone out and it was starting back up "starting services". it must have rebooted in my pocket.
if i go back into the sprint store for this they are not going to be happy to see me again after all the strings they pulled to get me into this phone after being well out of my 30 days with my 3d.
Edit: i just went to sprint and they tested the battery and said it was bad. maybe that's why it was charging so slow? hooked up to the charger the phone died while using it. that seems way too slow right?
Edit again. The new battery didn't fix my problem.
Ask for a new back cover. There have been numerous post about how some back covers are not a tight enough fit allowing the battery to break contact which results in a reboot. Sprint appears to be aware of this as there are reports of stores having spare back covers to give to people who request them.
mine had the updated cover with the rubber/foam inside. the phone was faulty, they replaced it and it looks like the problem is solved.
last night when i got the phone and i put it on the charger i started using it and it sucked the 15% of battery out when on the charger. i started charing at 7pm and by 2 am it was only at 50%. pretty sure some thing was wrong with the phone. this new one charged up in about an hour.
Mine does the same at random times of the day.... went to sprint and they told me it was a software bug... that sound right to you guys?

Mine has been fine since it was replaced.

I've had my phone reboot first thing in the morning when I first turn it on. When it happens, it reboots twice and then no problem thereafter. It's done this three mornings so far, rebooting twice each time. It's happened both before and after rooting. I wonder if it has to do with being fully charged and reboots until its no longer fully charged. Luckily it's not every morning and it's easy to live with until the update is released. I know we have the leak, but I'm waiting for the official update.

ok cool ill look to replace mine then.
I had the same issue with reboots when I first started it up after it activated it would restart few times. Then today I had 60% battery life left and I powered off the phone and started it up again it said I had 3% battery left. Not sure whats going on. Also I am having bluetooth headset issues. My top of the line motorola finiti constantly loses connection and has to regain it. I have also experienced the call audio issues on several occasions. Unfortunately for me I was given this phone by Sprint and can't return it for another device. My only recourse is to wait till Motorola comes out with a firmware update.
Hi all,
I have tried searching for this, but only 4 topics came up and they weren't relevant, so apologies if this has already been posted.
I got my SIII last Wednesday and I'm pretty pleased with it (upgraded from a HTC Desire)
Last night I didn't put it on charge as it has about 90%. Woke up to it this morning, turned off (assumed that the battery drained) but when I turned it on, it started in safe mode.
I haven't rooted it, or done anything technical like that (yet) so I have no idea why this happened.
The only thing I can think of is that the memory card is corrupt (stuff like this happened with my Desire when my memory card died)
Any other ideas?
Thank you

just turn it on and off... the phone goes into safe mode when you turn it on and hold one of the capacitive buttons (back or menu, don't remember which one)... assuming it is the same as the S1 and S2...

Thanks for your reply.
I did restart it an its fine, but I'm just concerned why it did that automatically. It's a good job I don't use it for an alarm!

Ok, dumb question time... I have an Infected TB and it's been working fine for a couple months. About 2 weeks ago the phone starting rebooting itself all the time and would get stuck in a reboot loop. It even reboots itself from recovery. Now I figured that it was a problem with the rom if it rebooted in the OS, but I figure that it is a phone problem if it reboots in recovery just sitting there. I looked up on here yesterday and saw someone say that if you have the rom with the PG05IMG.zip name, on the sd, that it can cause reboots... I go grab the phone and now it won't even turn on. I get a really slow blinking amber light when it's charging though.
Any ideas, is the phone just shot since it won't power on... or is there a trick?
Thanks,
Clayton
Slow blinking amber light? Mine does that when my battery overheats. Have you tried a different battery in it? Could be bad.

That blinking means its dead.. Sounds like a bad battery

True, I grabbed my business partners battery and mine booted. And rebooted lol. Now I hope it's just rom related. Anything else I should try?
So my vibrant is acting up its been like 2 weeks keep turning it self off then on like every 15 minutes. I was rooted I tried different Roms nothing worked I went back to stock still have the same issue..
Any one experienced this hardware issue?
Thx

Sounds like a bad battery. I have 2 vibrants and 5 batteries 1 of which causes the phones to act just like that.

I replaced the battery with oem still doing it. Thx for the help though

I've been having a similar issue with my Vibrant only it rarely lasts 2 minutes. It sometimes seems software related, but mostly appears to be a hardware issue. I've tried 2 different batteries with no change. It will not even stay on if plugged into a charger unless it is in download mode (luckily it runs fine in download mode and most of the time in recovery mode). I've tried ODINing back to stock and various other tricks (different bootloader, ROMs, etc.) but nothing seems to work. It seems to run best right after an ODIN to stock (lasts maybe 10-15 minutes) but it eventually turns off (doesn't shut down, it just goes instantly black). After it shuts off it usually won't turn back on until I pull the battery for a while. I've basically given up on that Vibrant--but I just bought 2 more used Vibrants for me and the wife.
