What exactly is your question? Do you want to root your phone? Siyah kernel will do in that case (look for the right one). In the stock kernel from 4.0.4 there could be a so called 'emmc brick bug', but when you flash a custom one like Siyah immediatly your phone won't be in danger.

Have a look at gokhanmoral.com
Test the Siyah 6 for the SGSII(!!!)
PS: U also find a tar file there, which u can
If u don't like it, choose for example the 7.29 from Dorimanx
http://dorimanx.shine.sk/

Could you first clarify what your purpose is? And if you read the post above you, you'll see a link to the website of the developer of Siyah.

Still can't find insecure Kernel.
Hi: having searched, I can't seem to find either a secure or an insecure kernel: looking for BVKH2 - which I guess is quite new since I've just got my handset.
Any other sources that anybody might know of please?
Thanks,
Mike

Correct root file for KI9 kernel
Hello everybody,
I updated my firmware version trough Kies today, from KF3 to KI9.
As I wanted to root my S2 in order to install MIUI, i searched for the KI9 kernel at Chainfire's thread, but didn't find the corresponding file.
I searched the forum and came up with this :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...75278&page=708
Unfortunately I can not reply on an developers section of the forum, so i thought this was the best place to ask it:
Which kernel should I use in order to correctly root my phone ?
Many thanks

Yes. There's only 1 insecure and 1 secure of KF4 in that link anyways.

Your link is bad. Has the ellipses in the URL, so it doesn't link to anything.
I can't find a KI9 firmware for the GT-I9100. What is your full model information?
EDIT: I think I see - XWKI9 looks like it is a carrier branded firmware for Belgium, which is why I didn't find it initially. See this post. (which I found REALLY easily with a Google search)
KI9 kernel
Sorry for the bad link, the thread is called : "[ROM+Guide]Official i9100 Firmwares KG, KH, KI, KJ, KK1/2/5, KL1/2/3, LA2 Download" , and the particular post is from "Crucio_".
My full model information is :
Model : GT-I9100
Android-version: 2.3.5
Baseband-version : I9100XXKI4
Kernel-version : 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI9-CL630390 [email protected] #2
Buildnumber: GINGERBREAD.XWKI9
Thx for the quick response
EDIT: The link you reffered to is actualy the same thread I wrote in this post . I just would like confirmation about the KI4 kernel being compatible with the KI9 version.

See my edit above.
EDIT: ah. That post I linked is the one you attempted to link.
So long story short, you need the same kernel HeavyLaws needed, the KI4 kernel.
I think i understand
I don't want to keep rambling about this, but I would like to understand how this works.
I noticed that the Baseband-version also ends on KI4, is this of any relevance?
So i guess if you have time, i would like the long story
Thx again
EDIT: doesn't HeavyLaws need the KF4 kernel instead of the KI4 kernel?

Re: HeavyLaws - whoops! You're right. He needs KF4. You need KI4. Sorry about that!
So long story isn't really that long actually. From what I understand, Proximus just took XWKI4, branded it, added their tweaks, and re-versioned it as XWKI9. There are probably more details than that, but I don't really know all of them.
KI9 kernel
I get it
So in theorie, flashing the KI4 kernel should't give any problems cause it's basically the same kernel as the KI9 with some minor tweaks?
Just want to be sure that i won't jam my phone by using this kernel .
Thx for the answers man, I appreciate it

Pretty much, but you can just flash the KI9 kernel back after you get root if you want. Stock KI9 kernel is on this page, just search for the term "XWKI9 Stock Kernel". This will also have the effect of getting rid of the yellow triangle when rebooting the phone.

[Q] Siyah 4.0.X

Hi,
I know this is a very basic question. But, it would be great if someone can answere this for me. I see a change log on Siyah Kernel 4.0.1 that reads like this "No Cap_Erase, No hardbrick". Does this mean ICS 4.0.4 is safe to use if I have Siyah Kernel 4.0.1 or above ? I think after reading a lot of hardbrick cases on XDA .. What I understood was most of the cases were because of the kernel that is being used rather than the firmware ... am I right on this ?
Thanks.
Every version of Siyah above 3.5.2 are safe.

I believe you are right. He only had one that was bad, but that was a long time ago. You just need to be aware of the version you download (only the s2 one) and if they are compatible with the version of android you're running (ICS/JB)

if u do the same ur phone will be rooted and u can install some custom roms/kernels of ur choice from the siyah recovery and see if it suits ur requirements
after installing the Siyah kernel u will be safe from the 'Brick bug' the v4.0.4 is baned with
u can use 'Titanium backup' or 'My backup' apps from store and backup ur data/contacts on the phone after rooting
u can make a nandroid backup of ur phone with the stock firmware running now , so that in case u need to install stock rom back, u can simply restore this backup from recovery
