I am trying to get my Exchange server setup to use client certificates for authentication. I got it working on a old Nokia E72, if there isn't a bigger insult to Samsung than that I'm not sure what is.
The stock samsung email client I can't get to work with the client certificate. It just gives me "Unable to connect to server"
I tried the TouchDown client and had it up and running in no time at all. But I don't really want to spend the money on replacing the mail client for everyone. I gave Enhanced Email a spin (I actually have a license for it but never use it). A little bit of a pain to install the certificate but no problem. I suspect (but can't yet prove) that the stock Google client would work a charm.
Does anyone know if I'm missing something in the stock client, or is there any other good solution for all my users. I suppose if the stock Android client works I could root everyone's phone and change the email client but I don't really want to do that!

Since I need to have MS Exchange Server support, I use the default program Moxier. Se has ripped out the native support of Exchange in 2.1 so I am still stuck with Moxier.
Does anybody use Exchange and has a better alternative than the default Moxier installed?
Theres touchdown but its pay for and I think its quite expensive:

Hm sounds allright. If it works, 15dollar is not that much.
I have a hosted exchange account and use Moxier. It works fine, but is has it's disadvantages. So I was wondering if there was another app, like Moxier and more integrated with the Google Android mail/calendar/contacts.
Thanks for your reply though, I will have a further look.
Hi,
I'm having trouble getting the G Tablet to connect to exchange. Went the manual mode, put in my username (with and without domain name) and email address (they're different) and the server. Chose ActiveSync, after "Checking incoming server settings..." i got error about authentication failed. I checked the credentials (owa & iphone are working fine using the same credentials), played with all the ssl options but still not connecting. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks
Well, the bad news is that I can't help you.... yet. The good news is that my gtablet arrives today, and one of the first things I'll be doing is setting up exchange! I'll report back.
You say that you have tried all the SSL options, but for me to get it to work I had to not use any SSL (Even though we have SSL on the mail server).
Also, for username I had to put domain\username, otherwise it wouldn't work. Maybe search for another exchange clien and see if you can log in using that?

Click to collapse
I also tried it without any SSL and did use domain\username to no avail. I put in a ticket with my school but haven't received any reply, not sure if there's anything they can do since it works fine on iphone/ipad.
I would try another client. Touchdown has the most features and flexibility of all the exchange clients for mobiles. It also has a free trial.
is it your own exchange server, or a corporate?
I know on our system, we have to use an external webserver for any device that isn't our corporate laptop. If you are trying to use the same one as your PC, it might not work as the MAC won't be accepted by the actual server.
Also, if you have a blackberry, you CAN'T use the exchange settings from that either as there is an intermediary server for BBS.
Check with your IT folks....my guess is that there is something like
ext.yourcompany.com for the server.

Hi There
Im hanging on while i try to transfer the exchange account from my friends business laptop to the sgs2. Other Peoples of the Company can access the exchange server cia the iPhone. They didnt install any software beacause its not allowed on the computers there. I already found the password and the exchange server but it doesnt work. Is there any solution to convert the ost file of outlook to android?
Regards daglobe
If you really want to do what you say ... you might go research a product named companionlink. They have been around a long time and can synchronize outlook to android.
However, the exchange client that is built into this device is way better (IMHO) then the iPhone. Likely, it's just a matter of filling out the boxes correctly. Once you get it working ... it's worth the diddling about.
good luck.
i have a problem connecting my tab to the company server, i can't use the e-mail through the exchange, i put the same parameters like my HTC mobile but nothing work, it always said the server need to change my security setting and nothing happened after that.... any help
as an exchange admin, i know there could be a ton to this. they could limit it to client certs, could be limits on your number of devices activated,or just wrong settings or ssl certs. its a loaded question unfortunately.
it was from the application equipped with the tab
the problem solved by installing the Touchdown HD for Tab... it is working fine now and I can get my mails, contacts and calender... It is so obvious, the problem coming from the exchange application coming with the Tab and i hope Samsung can come over this problem soon...
Free app on amazon appstore today is an email client (enhanced email) that allows exchange... just a few hours left, though...
Anyone else having trouble with the stock email app? Its brutally slow and freezes the whole phone. The problem is that it syncs with the stock calender app which I need. K9 mail does not as far as I know. I wish it was possible to remove our replace the stock email app with a newer or older or fixed version or something, but I don't have root and I don't know how to without it. Any suggestions for this problem or similar experiences?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
I was having issues with the stock email app. Any message I would send from my phone it would stay in the outbox and not actually send the email. I would try manually pushing the email and that would not work. My suggestion is to try enhanced email from the market. I have been using it for a week now and the customizations above the stock email are worth the price. I believe you can Google it and download a free week trial version from their website.
You can try other mail clients but if you are using your phone for work and connecting to an Exchange (or exchange-like) ActiveSync server, take it from someone who is not only a heavy email user but also the email co-admin for a 5000 user environment, Touchdown by Nitrodesk right now is the only fully functional non-buggy exchange mail client for Android. If you are only a casual or occasional email user then Enhanced Email is ok, but still has a lot of bugs. I have a lot of experience supporting everything else out there (Including a few hundred Blackberry Enterprise users, and iPhone users) and right now Touchdown for Android is the only stable one that has feature parity with a real corporate email client.
Having said that, the stock mail client on CM7 is a lot less buggy than Samsung's, HTC's or Motorola's. So if you really need to use stock for some kind of calendar integration or because your favorite widget only supports stock mail and you are comfortable with flashing custom roms then CM7 give a try.
Hi, i'm really new to all this root/cwm/flash thing, i hope i am posting to the correct thread. It seems that the stock email client will not work on unNamed rom, probably because social hub is not installed. It just won't set up the account. (I did install social hub using the addon provided by the unNamed, but didn't work, social hub won't add any account for that matter) Gmail does work. I just wanted to point out this issue, to see if someone is having the same situation.
Sorry, i'm a complete noob.
