Hi all!
One thing drives me nuts about my wife tab - it turns screen on in the middle of the night, I guess when battery is completely charge.
Is there any way to disable or completely remove this behavior?
I use AutomateId to disable sounds, but there is nothing to turn off screen completely.
I checked few custom roms and do not see one fixing this problem. So, any suggestions will be appreciated!

Uh, yeah. That'dprobably do it. ;-)
On a somewhat related note... Is there a danger of overcharging? It always says, "Device fully charged. Please unplug charger." Is it unreasonable to expect smart charge capability?

That is an option, unless you need it on for something else, like an alarm in the morning ;-)
However, sumsung phones developers let say, were able to work around in custom roms, so I was in hope, that may be I missed something...

the message to unplug is purely an energy saving measure. It doesn't mean unplug from the tab, it means unplug from the wall to prevent "vampire power drain".
I agree about it being sodding annoying, though; the point of charging overnight is that it's fully charged come morning not fully charged at, say, 1am and partially drained by morning! /rant

Ah, well... Aside from being somewhat econazi-ish, that makes sense. The "wake-up-on-full-charge" thing doesn't really annoy me too much because it's in the case almost all the time. Closed cover = no problems.

Wow! I thought I was the only one. This drives me nuts! I just thought it was one of those random custom ROM bugs. I'd love a fix because then I could just set my setCPU profile to clock down when the screen is off, but since it comes on, I have to make more complicated settings (or else it overheats inside the case!).
I think I figured it out by a chance...
There setting "Never turn screen off when charging" or something like this. I do not have tab in front of me.
Removed that check and didn't see screen on this night.
If it help to anybody else please post here to confirm.

If you figure out where the setting is will you update this thread? Also, update the OP to make it useful to others (including me!)
settings>applications>developments>stay awake, unmark the box, I hope your problem will end. I unmarked it as soon as I got my P7500 while checking settings and never experience this.
I have this option unchecked as well. I can confirm that the tablet turns on when it is completely charged and then goes back to sleep after a short while again.
Regards
Achim
Yeap, it does that. But like you said it shut the display in a short while, if it the option unchecked.
It's usually disabled in custom roms but if you have the skills and time try to make it yourself, although it's annoying that at 4am you hear the tablet buzzin' you that it's fully charged...
I had the same screen switching on over night problem with stock 3.1 ROM.
The tab switched on automatically, and never switched off.
It happened while it was charged and while was not charged, or after rebooted.
I work in front of the tab, and it switched on more and more often.
Once I set the screen off time to another, shorter value, it solved the problem for that afternoon, but in the morning the screen was on again.
Finally I removed 50 rarely used apps, and the problem is almost fixed. It happened only once since then. I think I permitted some app to administer the device in the menu, and those caused this.

I think my screen problem is also related to the multimedia dock. When the tab is in the dock and the dock is NOT connected to the charger, then few times it switches on the screen after some time.
I put my tab into silent mode and close the cover.
No noise no light.
Alarm still makes noise even in silent.
But there really should be an option to turn this off.
Finally got my new Transformer Prime from Best buy!
Sad news is all I can do is turn it on and watch the android tell me to start.
The touchscreen is completely unresponsive. I am on hold with Best Buy phone support right now (the lady has no idea what a transformer prime is).
I have tried cold boot by holding power and volume down for 5 secs...
Tried while charging and on batteries. I do not have a dock or a stylus.
Do you guys have any other ideas I can try before I punt this POS back to BB?
Thank you
Let the battery discharge all the way until it shuts off, charge it up for a half hour or so and try it out again. It seems to have worked for some people in a thread around here somewhere who had their touchscreen stop working after an update.
I let the battery discharge all the way until it shut off. This was not an easy task. Had to stay up to keep the screen on. When I restarted I had the same issue.
Unless there are any other ideas I may just have to return this thing.
Another question... Is it worth exchanging? Should I wait for the Tegra 3 Lenovo with 2 gigs ram? I am a very sad Panda
Man, its stuff like this that should clue manufacturers in to allowing users to pull a battery. I have had funky issues with my Nexus One and not sure what I would do if I could not pull the battery in that puppy.
I hate to think of spending 6-8 hours trying to discharge the battery on the Prime for something like this.
I would call ASUS and see if they have any tricks you can try. If not then return through BestBuy. Not sure what the turn around time would be or how that relates to other T3 releases.
You could also try holding down the power button until you get the Eee Pad boot screen. I think that works like a warm boot.

The reset button should disconnect the battery for a short period of time, so that would be kinda the same isn't it?
Where is the "Reset button" I already tried cold boot.
This is your chance everyone, before I send back to Best Buy. Any ideas. I don't care if it bricks it as I will prob send back.
Is there any special order to the drain power and restart. I tried restarting with the device plugged in. Should I take the time to try again to drain the power and try powering on with the device not plugged in?
Update: Found the reset button. Did not work

If you have hit the reset, cold booted it and ran the battery down, I am not sure what it left to try if you cannot navigate through the device. Maybe if you had the keyboard you could get in and install a touchscreen tester or something, but not sure how much I would trust your device if it still does not register touch after all that. Probably better to just return it and get another.
Honestly, I love the tablet and haven't had any serious issues with it. Sounds like you just got a dud.
I am starting to agree with you. If they had some in stock I wouldn't give it a second thought. Now I get to wait for Who knows how long to get another one.
I have put in an Esupport ticket with ASUS. I will update you on what they say.
FYI when it starts it only shows the home buttons for a split second. It pops up a small back box that says English. Is this normal behavior?

It runs through the Google Device setup when you first launch it. I do not remember the exact order, but language would probably be the first option.
I assume this looks like a drop box where you would have the option of other languages, but of course you would not be able to test without being able to tap.
Those all come up, drop down menu is there and says English as well. What i'm talking about is a small black box appears over the android guy that says English and disappears. This happens in unison with the home buttons on the bottom that also disappear.
I will post a Youtube Video soon so you all can see.
Thank you for all your responses thus far!
UPDATE: I am not gonna post a video as my video camera is not yet working with ICS custom ROM.. I don't feel like putting an old Rom on. Sorry.
Truth is I give up. I am taking the prime back to Best Buy on lunch break for full refund. Think I'll go buy a Go Kart.
Thanks again for all the help!
UPDATE2: I really really want a Transformer prime... I decided to once again order from Best Buy.
This morning 2 hours after I ordered my 3rd Prime, Best Buy canceled the order.
Best Buy support said it was cause I changed the shipping address to my UPS store.
So they just Canceled the order.. I am now taking the large hint the universe is giving me.
I am not meant to have a Prime
Up until this morning I had considered myself one of the lucky prime owners that had no problems with their device. The My prime has not suffered any of the defects I have seen other users having issues with, no screen bleed, great wifi, only a little issue with gps, and I purchased the unit from the one extra stock that the gamestop in SF received on the day they're delivered. Very happy overall with my firs tablet.... Until this morning..
Last night with my battery hovering around 15% I plugged into to charge, and got the wonderful little sound letting me know that night the morning I would have another full charge to waste f'in about.. When I woke up at 4 my prime was at 71% and status said not charging..... Strange I thought, and maybe a fuse had blown? No.... Every outlet in my house produces the same result.... No power getting to the prime
It was charged through a protected outlet in my server cabinet, so I know the power was clean and surge free.... Has anyone out there experienced anything like this before? I am thinking now that I will have RMA the unit because the charge circuits somehow failed.. I have no provision test another power supply for charging purposes and do nothing I have even seen extras available yet.. When I get to work I will verify that I still have connectivity to my pc and see what happens.
Please I would like some constructive thoughts on this matter.... I do not want to start another thread that catalyzes everyoneone into a fit of prime bashing or or telling me why I should returnitand buy a new device.... I am lookingfor hopefully a resolution or similar experience that can help me out before I make the decision to RMA for a new unit .... Damn and I only had a few days left to waitfor ICS
If it helps I am on the latest update 33, and rooted with jcase and viperboys (thanks guys, awesome work) tool....

Your charger is overheating. Did the same thing with mine, an hour in the freezer worked like a charm. Remember to put it in a bag though.
There is a temperature trip circuit in the charger, which evidently kills charging if the charger passes a temp threshold. This was apparently a very prevalent problem on the tf101, and has been known to carry over to the TF201 occasionally. I have not experienced it, but i have seen this 'fix' used successfully.
Definitely sounds worth a try then... I can try this fix when I get to work and report back... Is this something I should expect on a regular basis? I Can do it for a while until I can source a new charger, that I do not mind... At this point anything that keeps this thing in my hand and up and running is good news in my book. Thanks for the suggestion guys!

Please keep us posted. One of the first things I noticed when I got my Prime was how damn hot the charger got when charging. You can literally burn yourself if you squeeze it.
The charger is a piece of ****. Instable, overheating, buzzing, the one on my TF died a long time ago.
If it doesn't work anymore, find yourself a new one (that provide 12v output and not the regular 5v) with a USB port, it cost something like 10$ and you won't risk to set your house on fire each time you charge your TFP.

Well its not that strange.....I used to do this with clicking Hard Drives after they over heat. This would allow you at least an hour to access your files to recover them. Its a long known data recovery secret. ;-)

Not very odd. This trick been used to fix hard drives too.

Alright... so my update on the problem.... Put the charger in the freezer for a good couple of hours to see if it could be reset... after letting come back to room temp, I plugged it in and nothing.... charger is blown. Had to go to office depot to get a new one, but the good news is that it was not the prime itself! Thanks for the ideas everyone!
Have anyone been able to charge their Prime from their PC like it says you can do in the manual.
I tried and the Prime didn't show any indication that it was being charged, in fact it still said to connect it to a charger.

Op,
I have been watching people complain about this, if you plan to throw the charger away could I get you to toss it into an envelope and send it to me, I want to do some research on it to see if I can figure out why it is burning out.
Does anyone have a link to a cheap, compatible charger? I guess the voltage can vary as long as it's not too low, but the current should match that of the original charger, from what I understand.

Flyingwolf, being an engineer myself I was very curious about doing a little investigation of my own... But I only have a multimeter. I would hope this should be enough to get a general idea of what's going on. If you would like I would love collaborate with you on this and see if we can figure out what is going on. If I get to deep over my head (I am a mechanical engineer not electrical after all ) I would have no problem at all sending it along! Let me know and we can go from there. Was planning on cracking it open this weekend.

Far from being an engineer myself, however my love of all things electronic and my hobby of RC has forced me to learn as much as I can, I have become rather proficient lol.
Me personally I would just being doing some simple probe tests, figuring out if there was an issue with manufacturing (cold solder joint, too tight wire that pulls with heat expansion etc).
I am sure as a mechanical engineer you should have no problem figuring it out.

I paid 30 at office Depot for an OEM unit... I would recommend you always use the stock system to charge as it may have integrated circuitry to actually talk back and for to the prime for charging to correct levels. Further investigation as noted in my last post should hint at this so stay tuned. I will note that they keep the chargers in the back at my local store and when I called had no idea what I ws taking about. I had to give them the item number from online before they could find it... So I would check availability online and find a store that has them in stock before you go on a wander to find one. Hope that helps

Just added this thread, 'cause I think there aren't enough positive threads.
Got my dock two days ago.
I plugged in my tablet and charger and loaded both of them for a couple of hours.
When they were fully charged, I disconnected the charger and began surfing and watching movies.
The battery of my tablet stayed at 100%, while my dock battery depleted. So I will always have a fully loaded tablet if I decide to disconnect the tablet from my dock. Unless I keep using my TF101 for 16 hours straight without charging (which will someday happen, I betcha! Can't stop using it!!!
I also noticed that when I use the arrow pointer the scrolling direction of the touchpad is inverted. This is IMO very well thought out, because it is the same on a laptop.
I read on different fora that people have problems with their dock and that the dock only kicks in when the tablet battery is at 70%.
Is my dock working differently, because I am running Revolver ROM?
Just a couple of glitches:
When you use the arrow pointer, you can't use pinch-to-zoom anymore.
Sometimes I have a lag while typing, but it doesn't bother me or slow me down. Even in this forum I have minimal lag.
Sometimes the touchpad is not as responsive as I want it to be.
Mouseover isn't working in browser.
Anywayz, apart from a couple of little issues (hopefully solved in ICS), my dock is working perfectly!!

I´ve been having my Transformer (+dock) for 10 days now. Before that, I had an Netbook running Windows with an extended battery.
With that I usually had to put it to the charger 3 times a week.
Now, with the Transformer I still had 40% (!!) battery left after one week of normal use.

I think this only applies to the Transformer Prime of which I have had 3.
I am not convinced it is a wise idea to keep the keyboard dock constantly charging the tablet though.
I will be using the tablet without the dock also.
I also charge all my devices when they reach 50%.
only one "problem" with dock I have - the software keayboard i'm using instead of stock one doesn't support ctrl+space locale switch 8) and i cannot find any better combination for it
surely thats not a dock issue, but a software i'm using and I still hope that its author will implement that feature 8)

I do the same. I was at my local Library yesterday with dock and mouse. Some guy with a Playbook (or similar) kept looking over at me the whole time he was there. I'm pretty sure he knew what I was using and seemed pretty keen on having a look.
I have no issues with mine either. Except that right click works like esc which drives me bonkers on remote desktop. But that's not a dock issue, its an android issue.

I have looked all over for the answer to my question but I am not seeing the answer. I see a lot about blinking orange lights but not my issue.
I have a TF201 docking keyboard I purchased a little over a year ago. It won't charge when I plug it in to the charger. It shows as 0% on my battery on my actual TF201 but I have had it plugged in overnight and it doesn't change. On the side next to the plug it just shows a solid orange light whether it is plugged in or not. I am running CM11 Unofficial but was able to use the dock for quite a while running this ROM with no issues.
Can someone PLEASE help me or does anyone know what the issue is???
THANKS! :fingers-crossed:

This sounds like the exact poblem I am having. Does the dock still work when it is plugged into the pad however? Does yours get the dock charging icon for a second before giving up?
I recently unlocked the bootloader and flashed Hariybean. I'm reluctant to go back to stock just to see if this sorts out the dock but after searching t'webs endlessly it seems this may be my only hope.

Yes the keyboard itself does still work with it is plugged into the Prime. Mine actually shows it charging and charging on CM11 Unofficial. But it doesn't go anywhere after that. It just stays at charging at 0% after being plugged in for 5+ hours.
I was actually using it with CM11 for a few weeks before it went out on me. I shake my dock gently and it sounds like something might be loose?
Please let me know if you find out anything. If anyone else knows of something that might work please please let me know as I have also searched and searched (even after posting this I searched even more) for quite a while with no results.
Thanks!

From researching it a lot of people have said that the docking keyboard tends to "die" in some form or another after about a year. I went ahead and purchased another docking keyboard on eBay myself as I love having the backup battery and the ability to have the physical keyboard.
