Bump for same issue.
Phone is in perfect condition never dropped and has always been in a case. Like OP the buttons randomly stopped working, I have to press each one at least 20 times to get it to work once sometimes up to 50 times.
I installed an app with a back and home button but can only use the home since i'm not rooted.
Still under warranty so may get a replacement, unless someone knows what to do.

If you're literally clicking it 50 times then you probably have a n issue with your phone but if it just laggs a little bit, make sure you have a stable rom and a stable kernel and that you arent choosing a laggy governor or underclocking your phone too much

If you turn your display up 100% and put your rezzy in a dark room, you will see a gap at the bottom of the glass and phone housing. Dirt, dust, and crapola can get down in there.....and yes, can eventually cause issues. Before you doubt this, call BigRed and ask how many have been returned because of this......
My last rezzy i took apart a applied a thin silicone to create a seal around the housing. Never had an issue, and fixed the light seep issue
But it is way easier to just backup your junk and flash a different rom to troubleshoot!

I slid my fingernail in the crack and the buttons worked for a few seconds.
I'm thinking that since the rest of the digitizer works fine that there's dirt stuck in there.

[Q] Menu button flashing issue

Hi to everyone in this forum. I've recently received as a present a new toshiba folio 100, but, since I'm experiencing an annoying menu button flashing, I've thought of it as a software problem so I upgraded the folio using the foliomod1.3c and applied the rotate patch and also the 1.3c fix patch. The menu still flash with no apparent logic. I've tried to kill all applications running and it's still there. It seem to come up and down at random. I ask to all in this forum: do you believe it's a hardware issue or is a software issue? Because if it's a hardware issue I'm going to try to have a new folio from toshiba. I'm overall very pleased with the work that Dexter made to make the folio an usable machine but this flashing is driving me crazy. I use the folio basically as a portable scientific pdf reader so I need to concentrate on what I read and this flashing is really annoying. I would like very much to thank you all in this forum in advance for all the suggestion/help you could provide.

I have a request that serve All those who suffer MENU crazy button .
Is it possible to prepare application you can setting ON/OFF the MENU button
Most of the time useless button.
sometimes button jump after 10 minutes, sometimes after an hour
Usually I fix the problem by changing the settings with FolioButtons 1.1.
If you could add to FolioButtons on/off operation for menu Buttons was the best.
Hi teknoraver,
Can you add enabled/disabled menu button in foliobuttons application ?

I am pretty desperate about this issue, because none of the methods seem to help...
Right now the buttons work opposite- Menu button flashes mad and none of the other 3 responds...dont know how it happened
Just a thought- while the folio is booting up the menu button ALREADY flashes! I have zero understanding in there but isn't it a process that loads / starts early in the line?
I appreciate everyone's effort trying to solve this bug as it makes this handy tool a useless pile of crap.
I was wondering how many folio users are suffering of this crazy buttons madness.
Mine was crazy from the very beginning; I sent it back for repair and toshiba only did a firmware restore... Nothing changed at all!
It makes my folio almost unusable!
bye bye crazy buttons
After two weeks of testing and a complete breakdown of my folio100, I finally find the problem or just crazy buttons and freezing of the screen.
I drag a thickness in the screen in the bottom right corner of the screen to isolate the audio connector and it works better than a miracle again.
The only downside is that the screen comes out slightly from the slot but nothing really bad.
The thickness I put slightly too big or-1.4 mm I'll Demount next week to put a finer and I'll try to take pictures in passing.
Note however that the loss of waranty is innevitable.
Sorry for my bad english ;-)
I think it's a hardware issue and even a build quality issue.
If i hold my folio at the side of the buttons, i get the flashing buttons problem (even the foliobuttons app will not help), if i hold it at the other side, i've got no problems at all.
Do you have an animated background? Because I saw that some people had this issue with an animated background...
Hi Mshr73, nice first post indeed
Could you post some pictures of what you did?

I really don’t want to be too quick on this, but Dexter’s 1.4 seems to bring relief to this issue - for 2 days I have been running this mod the menu button stopped flashing!!
Any similar impressions on this?

No way pal, I guess I'm in the opposite situation. It still happens to me, and sometimes I think it even got worse... well, I can always look at crazy keys as a "special feature" that no other tablet will have!!!
I just tested without thickness under the screen, with foliomod 1.4 and after a few hours I again the problem of crazy buttons.

Well, I just finished dismantling e reassembling my Folio. Following your hint, I cut a piece of paper and put it between the audio connector and the back of the screen (yes, it was metal vs metal). I'll see whether it's gonna work or not. Crossing fingers for now.
Not that I'm so confident in leaving a piece of paper stuck right where the DC input is .
BTW, did you try with a smaller thickness? Even if this is the problem, I'm wondering whether a piece of paper would be enough or not.
thyself can someone. post pictures of before and after details?
we will be much appreciated
i didn't have the crazy buttons issue this far in 2 weeks, just my home butten needs to be pressed harder. I'm pretty sure it's hardware related, i read often that users experience it when changing from an warm room to a colder one, or in regions where its verry humid(some circuit closes maybe...). so Mshr73 is on the right way as far as i can tell.

Anyhow, it is so disturbing, that I was already considering to send the tablet back to Toshiba...

I'm looking forward to your pictures, too... because my trial simply didn't work.
I tried with both a single piece of paper and then with 2 pieces wrapped in tape. I put these spacers between the back of the display and DC/audio connector.
In both cases, the crazy keys phenomenon started to happen after 15-20 minutes of usage.
In most cases, it starts to show when I unlock the device. As soon as I unlock it, home and menu buttons light up with no apparent reason and go crazy for 10-30 seconds.
Then, I even tried to loosen just a little the screws (I read, somewhere in the forum, of a guy who said that he solved his crazy keys and screen lag problems this way). I mean, all screws are now locked but not too tight. Well, I have to say that I don't have any screen lag anymore (I even removed the piece of paper, from the battery area, which used to solve the issue before) but crazy keys still happen. I'm going slightly mad

I handed a piece of cardboard and the problem disappears.
I think that to raise the screen to solve them but I'm still not 100% sure.

[MAYBE FIX?] Home button gone bad

Hi,
Got my s2 pretty much as soon as they were released on o2 and it's been great until now, but the home button has just become 'rattly'. There's more movement and noise before the button engages, as if something has broken underneath it.
Anyone else experienced this?
Just hoping o2 will replace with a new phone, and not refurbished..
Edit:
May have fixed this - I pushed left and right sides of button with both thumbs reasonably firmly (but not hard), and the button seemed to click back into place..
Bought mine on the 5th of may, no noise/rattling here.
Spoke to o2 and they're happy to replace, but have no stock now..

Bit worrying that this isnt an isolated problem.
Would be interested to know how long it takes for it to develop for other people's phones?
It's worse for me on the left side of the button, same for you too?

I noticed this yesterday, too, on the right side. I've had the phone for 17 days.
I've updated the first post with what I think is a fix.
I have this rattling too, noticed it yesterday. Pressing it firmly fixes the issue for some 10-20 clicks - but then it's back again.
Same here.. Often the button clicks but there is no registration only when pressing it firmly it will exucte,
It just started on mine too it seems.
Home Botton issue..
I hate the home button, I like the buttons on the Samsung Captivate better.
I had a issue with my home button, after I put on an aftermarket screen protector. I tried to use water to help apply the protector, and it seemed to have gotten behind the button, causing it not to work after drying. After tearing apart the phone and getting behind the boards I didn't see a way to the button, it seems you have to separate the screen from the frame to get to the electronics behind the frame (most likely destroys the phone). I did notice double-sided sticky tape behind the frame, most likely industrial type.
Put the phone back together and got some Flux-Off that I had for cleaning circuit boards , applied it at the button just as the water got into it. Fixed my issue and the button is making good contact now.
All that just for me to say, it worked better with the older design.
I don't know about your buttons, but mine has stopped rattling. Perhaps some glue needed more time to settle.

Touchscreen stops working / random presses

Recently my touchscreen has been acting up on me. Sometimes it will either lock up completely and ill just press power 2x to get it to work again. other times stuff will randomly start to open or if its on the home screen the phone will switch pages left and right at a very high rate of speed the screen almost looks like its flickering.
this just started yesterday, ive ran 2 antivirus apps on the phone and both say its clean so i doubt its a virus, im not sure if its hardware or software related, im thinking about doing a re-flash, but i have a feeling that might not fix the issue..
has anyone else encountered this problem? it can get annoying at times cause it almost stops me from using the phone completely.
Edit: I would also like to note, i thought it was the screen protector i had on, but i took it off and the screen is still acting up
I had this happen last night after I installed a screen protector I got from eBay (they were $4 for 10 with free shipping). I'm guessing it was something in the glue because as soon as I took it off, the phone went back to normal. It always seemed to be 'pressing' in the same spot because I was trying to send a text and it kept popping up with a menu about the contacts info. Also, when that would pop up, the capacitive buttons at the bottom (menu, home, back and search) wouldn't work so I had to lock the phone and unlock it to gain control.

Did any water get in the phone?
i have same problem and make me shock,
my motorola have anti glare screen guard
while iam eat chicken soup and play mini plan , i didnt notice if my finger are wet couz of soup, meanwhile i notice that at that time the touch screen are still good i can play the game, so i quickly try to clean it up using tissue , while i try clean up my phone keep pressing like crazy so i stop to clean it but it keep pressing like crazy, event i have already out from the game, i cannot stop it, so i must pull out the battery and put it back,
i think Atrix the touch screen are too unstable , compare with milestone milestone is better but it's less sensitive then atrix
it normal again after pull out the battery and i clean it up
I never got any water inside the phone, only on the screen protector when applying it to the screen as directed in the instructions for the skinomi screen protector.
the screen protector has been on the phone for 2 months no issues. its only now i see this happening.
i removed the screen protector to see the issue still there.
i have done a factory restore with no changes
i downgraded to 1.52 with the random tapping still going.
i think it might be hardware related.
im going to bring the phone to an AT&T store for a swap

Xperia Mini Pro Capacitive Button Problem

Hi I was wondering if anyone has the same problem as i am having right know.
I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini pro White SK17I. It was working well untill when i tried to press the back button. I had to wait for so long to get a response from the back button. I tried the same thing with the menu button (Not the physical hone key) it still had the delay. The delay is about 5-10 seconds. Sometimes, you have to wait extremely long or you have to press it again. sometimes it runs normally. But rarely it does work as normally should. I only had the phone for 2 weeks. I was wondering if i can exchange it since i have a 12 Month warranty. thats all the problem I'm having right now
thank you
Me too but not always i discovered that it depends on memory usage.

me too..need to press harder..but not usually like that..most of the time, it works normally.
same here..just to make a point, did you have the noise problem as well?
I have the same problem. I think has to do something with the temperature/humity. If its warm outside and i have sweat on my fingers its happens, when its cold and dry everything works fine. I tested with /dev/event/input and with wet fingers it does not even trigger any events.

I got this problem right after installing NFS Shift. Now the back key often doesn't work and the Options key is unresponsive.
It is a known issue related with temperature, affecting more and more people every day (including me). SE is not responding, but seems a design problem:

my back key is okay, only menu key is unresponsive at all. i think this is because of hardware problem.
i bought it 1 day ago, though. gonna bring my phone to SE service center tomorrow.
Guys I fixed my problem. This guy on facebook had the same problem as I did. He fixed his and so did I. The reason it lags isnt because of the memory usage. Its some other reasons that I dont remember. Anyway, if you guys still need to fix yours, heres how. First you got to have cottons and a screen protector. The Sony one that you get from the box works. You have to apple one TINY drop of soap onto the cotton then wipe it over your display. Make sure you clean the buttons cause thats the priority. Make sure you cover the top bits. After you done that. Get your clean cotton and wipe it to get the soap out. DONT USE WATER. After thats done, make sure there is no string of cotton left in your screen. After you checked, apply the screen protector then its done. I just did mine today and its going well so far. Trust me guys this isnt a trap to break your phone or anything. I trusted this guy that told me the steps and it worked. What I am trying to say is just give it a go. If you did it like I did, I think you should be fine. I love my xperia again hope it works for you guys

I have no back button issues so far. I once had it slowing down but that was related to an application hanging so low memory might be related.

Yea thats nice My guess is, some countries get worse quality phones :/
As far i have the phone the back and menu keys work very fine for me, in fact they are very sensitive... and works fast
I had no problems until the update to Android 2.3.4.
Now I can't even play a game for 10 minutes and it presses the back button a lot.
It looks like it can be related to the firmware.
-----------------
I've seen on another site that other people also are facing more heating after update to 2.3.4. Well, since overheating is related to the issue, it may be possible that it is causing the back button issue for me.
Its Due to Memory Blocks aswell
The Problem is mainly due to too much of moisture in your hands...
to get rid of the problem, wipe off your hand of all moisture, and clean your cellphone screen and the buttons with a soft cloth.
And also remember to clean the used memory. usually its both the problems occurring at the same time, due tio which it seems no to be working..
hope it helps
I've had this problem too and I found out that the cause is the sweat from my hands.

I beg to differ, but my German Mini Pro does have the back-button-issue!
Don't know if it's due to sweaty fingers, I'll try one of these capacitive pens some day.
But I can say, as soon as I plug in the power cord, the button is working again.

broken power button?

So I've been playing with my phone for the last couple of days and recently I've been getting random reboots. I thought it was the ROM so I rolled back to a ROM I wasn't getting the issue and experienced the same. I did switch from CWM to TWRP and started getting the problem right around the same time. What happens is the phone goes dark like it's going to reboot, it does it's vibrate to say it's awake and repeats the vibrate roughly once a second until I push the power button a few times or until I pull the battery. I've been able to replicate this by holding the power button down.
Has anyone experienced this issue?

it still functions but it feels touchy. it's very easy to activate it. I'm wondering if the hardware switch is loose and out of place. I'm still debating on tearing it down or calling Samsung and getting it replaced, but I'm not sure if I really want a referb or some tech playing with my phone.
A referb word be preferable to a broken power button.

haha I doubt it, I'll call them tomorrow to find out and if it's going to be too long I'll just tear it down and take a look at it. I have been meaning to look at the possibilities of adding an inductive charger to the phone, maybe this is the opportunity.
I'm having exact same problem. power buttong gets stuck if I press it. phone reboots and just vibrates after reboot without going to recovery or samsung logo. I have stopped using power button and enabled wakeup screen on volume button (SlimROM). Also added "Power" to power widgets in notification drawer settings. I try to avoid pressing power as much as possible.
i'm thinking of calling Samsung support or open phone myself to check it out. let me know if you got it fixed by Samsung. how long did it take to get the phone back? did you restore phone to stock rom before sending it? was it covered under warrenty?

I have an issue similar to this, im thinking my issue is loose connections. what mine does is turn on for a bit and then restart. I've been able to resolve mine by flashing this rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261598

I would try taking your phone apart and cleaning the power button with a q-tip and a LITTLE alcohol. if that fails i'd try to flash the rom. Good Luck
attends nimeno
did flashing the rom every fix it op? or did you just go ahead and replace the power button? if the rom did fix it, can someone repost the link? the link is broken.
Again i would try cleaning the power button off first.
to do so:
there should be 9 small phillips screws around the battery -remove those
then the metallic looking rim around the phone has clips that clip the back portion to the rest of the phone. use a finger nail and seperate the grey from the white around the phone, unlatching the clips. remove the back cover and locate the power button(on the left when looking at it from the back. dap the q-tip in a tiny bit of alcohol barely moistening the cotton. apply the q-tip to the button getting a small amount on it and press the button until it clicks smoothly. on the cover you took off you can remove the button it has a little rubber angle on each end holding it in. clean around that also. reassemble and test.

Personally I wouldn't ever Odin with this issue, a reboot while flashing a new bootloader potentially boom. My issue was persistent through all roms and even in recovery which lead me to believe it was hardware. What I did to solve the issue was I pulled the case off, battery out and just played with the button for an hour or so. Felt how it clicked and if it was clicking funny. After that it worked fine. By playing with it I don't mean mashing on it, I mean gently and normal clicking, feeling where it caught and didn't. What it felt like to me was some lint under the button which eventually worked it's way out. Hope this helps

I had this issue of my power button sticking today. I took the phone apart and used some rubbing alcohol on a q-tip to get some on the button and pressed it repeatedly. I did that a few times and used some canned air to dry it out a few times. Put it all back together and button is working like new again.

If its not staying on at all then i agree with you. But if the problem is off and on and you've already tried cleaning the button thats really one of your last resorts. if the phone reboots during a flash you will get a firmware download error and you will have to reflash. may take a few tries but if the phone eventually stays on it'll be fine.

So I've confirmed it is the power switch. Any way to replace it?
dweezy you must have super tough fingernails. I recommend two guitar picks, working them as a pair -- one pixk to separate the bezel from the body, the other to hold the place as you move around the bezel.

Phone is stuck in a boot loop and this is what I know so far. Phone is on stock ROM, power button is working fine, I can get to recovery and OS and download mode, and while phone was charging I took the battery out and the phone keeps vibrating. I now know it's a hardware problem for me (I think), but I can not pin point where. Any advise would be helpful cause I really love my note and this is just breaking my heart. :crying:

When you get into recovery does the phone stay on? If so how long 10 mins? Hours? If it stays on I would assume its software.
Phone stays on forever in those modes, I'm gonna flash a different ROM to see what happens .... so I'm back to say it's a hardware problem. Same exact thing happens with liquid JB, paranadroid, and CM 10...did a clean wipe before installing each one too. Friend pointed me to some sites talking about a battery failure causing phones to do that so I'm gonna order a new one and see what happens...if this fails I have to get a new phone...and continue to work on my baby.
