Would it be possible for my SGP to be repaired, even though it is rooted (would they even be able to tell)? I'm stuck on a bootloop, and Odin doesn't notice the SGP and i can't get into Clockwork (and before I went into the bootloop, it charged, but when I turned it off, it instantly turned on); thus, I was forced to charge the SGP whilst the device was on. I believe the USB port is messed up.
I had a problem with my SGP5 US involving not charging. Turned out to be a bad connector. Yes, I was rooted and under warranty. Samsung repaired it at no charge and in about 3 weeks from shipment to return. I did have to restore files, but that was no problem since I had installed "Titanium Backup" after I rooted. That was my experience, yours might be different. Hope this helps...
Try installing Kies and connecting device, it should install drivers if you dont have them... i had the same problem...

I tried that and it didn't. I decided to bite the bullet and send it in (which isn't my first time).

Hi,
I have had this issue for about a week now and I have no idea what I can do to remedy it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Basically the handset believes that it is connected via USB constantly, i.e. when there is no cable connected, or power connected.
If nothing is connected to the phone and I try to turn on USB debugging I get the pop up "Attention - USB is connected. remove the cable."
If I do connect a USB cable to PC, the computer nor the handset respond. So I cannot connect to my handset via usb.
If I turn the phone off, then it starts to show the battery charging screen (as if connected) and will slowly drain away the battery. On top of this the battery stats do not update, so I have no idea what the charge is in reality.
If the phone is off, the only way to boot it up is to hold the keys down to boot into Recovery Mode and reboot the phone through that.
This started suddenly when I was using the CM7 latest nightly 116. The weird thing is that I had been on 116 since its release (months ago) and changed nothing for this to suddenly occur.
I couldn't seem to fix it, so I thought I would upgrade to the CM9 latest to "just wipe over the issue". The problem continued through this build.
Still could not get rid of it, so I wiped everything and went back to the first backup I made, which is the stock ROM and the insecure kernel for root access. (First opportunity to do a back up after rooting).
I have tried another battery and the same issue was present.
Is anyone familiar with this issue? Is there something I can do to solve it?
If not, is there a way that I can add the stock kernel back without using USB or ODIN? as neither will recognize the phone is present. If I cant fix it I at least want to return it completely to stock before returning the phone to the store.
Thanks for reading!
Maybe issue with the USB receptacle, hardware failure, moisture inside or dirty contacts etc.
Try cleaning the contacts carefully with a something soft and moist with isopropyl alcohol.

Yep, I cleaned long and hard in the plug and it didn't help unfortunately.
Extract the kernel zImage and flash with Hellcat app HC-kTool from your sdcard.
https://market.android.com/details?id=net.hellcat.droiddev.ktool
I think mobile Odin lite will do it from sdcard too. Edit: Able to flash ROM (or selected parts with the pro version, just kernel with lite version.

Edit: Also, Chainfire's CWM Manager app.

Thanks, I have CWM on my phone and you reminded me!
Ok, So I am back to stock FW and Kernel. The issue is still here, guess it's of to the store for a replacement.
Thanks for your help UpInTheAir, it is appreciated.
I had a similar issue with my S1, which I still have. I suspect a drop of rain got into the port, but not sure because it played up for months.
Anyway, my home 3g modem blew up one day so I began using the S1 as a dedicated wifi modem (tethering). I left it constantly on power. A few weeks later I wanted to try and install ics on it (was bored). It connected to the computer first go and all problems have disappeared since. Have tested it many times now. Might have just been luck.
So, maybe just leave it plugged in for a day or two and see if it helps.

So I am on stock but somehow, KIES wont work. It keeps saying connecting, but wont go further than that.
USB debugging is unchecked so I am sure that it not the problem. I heard T-Mobile for ICS upgrade, so I just wanted to be prepared for ICS update for ATT, but idk, why KIES is not working.
Any suggestions?
Bent USB prong in the phone? I've had to adjust mine several times since I got it launch day. Or hardware failure. When my USB was bent it could still charge via a wall charger

yeah I think it works when i use at a certain angle.
I am trying to go back to the stock rom and hopefully i can return it, but for some reason Odin is not recognizing it. I mean the yellow box of COM:0 does not show up in the "I777UCKH7-CL503881-No-BL.exe"
Do you know the reason for this?
Missing driver.
IIRC I believe you were supposed to install KIES and another Samsung driver...but I remember using my phone on a netbook without it and it worked...
Try installing the USB driver on the official samsung website? I can't post links yet or I would link it...

There can be multiple possible reasons. You've eliminated some of them. Could be a failing usb port on the phone, bad cable, etc.
If you can't get usb to work, you can flash back to stock using mobile odin. I assume you are rooted. Just download the one-click downloader to your phone over wifi, or use dropbox or something to get it onto your phone. Mobile odin will recognize and flash from the one-click downloader. There is even a guide in the general section on how to do this.

Creepy just posted this while I was getting you the link for the guide to return to stock with no PC: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1691659.
I returned to stock, and I think I figured out the problem as well.
The problem I am quite sure is the USB port on the phone. Like I said, when I keep the USB cable connected at a certain angle, it works just fine.
I will just have to live with it now I think because ODIN displays custom binary installed and the count is 2, so I dont think ATT will let me exchange the phone for a new one.

ehhh, its worth a try. Thats a hardware failure, the one that samsung is known for. Mine is starting to go out too.
I've returned 1 rooted phone with this issue, and warranty'd 1 rooted one that had a broken LCd.
These were Infuse's but same damn samsung problem.

No wonder most people are crazy about Apple sells so many iPhones
I had the very same issue as you are describing.
All you need to do is tweak the USB port a little. Did mine about 3 or 4 months ago and have not had to touch it since.
Use a small precision screw driver, fold a couple layers of Kleenex over the tip and gently bend it towards the screen side of the phone.
It WILL work perfect after that.

(Can't remember exactly what phone it was but it WASN'T a Samsung) Anyway, I've tried switching the phone back on this morning and she's not responding. Nothing from the power button... Volume down + menu + power... battery pull... anyone have any ideas what else I can try?

Well you can try anything you want but there is realy small possibility that you fix it by yourself.
You can fix it with jtag but i don't think you have one because then you wouldn't ask this question.
Samsung service can repair it but maybe they charge repair (but i think they won't if it's still in waranty).
It's not important is cwm you flashed samsung or not because flashing any cwm that is not made for your phone will cause brick.

Yeah, I've been doing alot of reading today about this.
Looked into a "jig" but it's not even getting to the boot screen so I'm lead to believe this won't work.
Tried loading up through odin again but the program doesn't detect the phones even connected.
When the chargers plugged in, it doesn't even light up.
Reckon i'll give Samsung a go... what's the worst that could happen?
The exact same thing happened to me about 6 months ago, but I was just recently trying to fix it. The worst part is that you can't even access it from your computer and therefore you can't do anything. Let me know if you get it repaired, and how much it cost.

Morning Sean,
If I'm being honest, I never sent it. My friend dropped his i5500 and shattered the lcd so he bought mine for £20 ($35). Thats only $15 less than i paid for it, so i took the hit.
Reading the samsung repair document though they do say that if you can produce a valid proof of purchase and they cant detect any liquid or physical damage they will fix any mobile upto 24mths after purchase.
If you still have the receipt, it may be worth it.
Hope you get it fixed.
I want to start by saying I'm no noob, I've been rooting/flashing/moding phones for years now. But im stuck.
My phone randomly rebooted a few days ago and would not boot back up. It would show the intitial Samsung 9300 boot screen and sit there.
I pulled the battery and tried to boot to recovery, but it would just stay at the Samsung boot screen. I am able to get to download mode, but computer will not connect. I've tried windows and ubuntu. Fresh installs and previously tried and succeded setups. All saw and communicated with my co-workers s3, not mine.
The most frustrating part is that Odin will recognize it but not flash. Errors with "no valid pit file" if I use the .pit file and repartion, it will hang at setup connection and eventually say cannot communicate. Similar experience with kies, sees it but can't communicate. (Kies was not installed with Odin)
Am I hard bricked here? Is there any way to fix(billable repair from Samsung even?)
I know there was an un-brickable mod for the galaxy s1. Anyone know who I could contact to send my phone to them to try to work out and un-brickable mod for this if I can't repair?
Thanks in advance, my head is starting to hurt at this point

Hey all, my brother bought an LG P769 for T-Mobile from Walmart, he's never been the type to modify any of his technology, so he used his phone like it was out of the box, no root, no bootloader unlocking, or anything. One night, he gets a security error, his hone turns off, and he can no longer turn it on. The soft buttons don't light up, its not the battery, no moisture damage, and the phone is literally useless. He tried calling LG support, they won't replace it for some reason, as far as I know it was running 4.2, though I'm not sure (he's not here to ask, and I doubt he remembers)
Tried the hard reset, no luck.
Tried to do the offline fastboot method, I installed drivers correctly, and selected option 5, and this time it lights up the soft keys, but it never loads the security error screen, so I can't enter s.w upgrade mode. I've tried pressing 5, waiting the 5 seconds with it plugged in and leaving it plugged in without the battery, leaving it plugged in with the battery, and putting the battery in at different times during the 5 seconds and removing it afterwards, none of them boot to the security error screen.
Tried the LG Mobile Support tool, doesn't recognize my device, even though I installed the drivers directly from the tool.
What do I do?
bump
If you can't return it to Walmart and you are out of other options, you can send it in for repair by starting here: https://www.lg.com/us/support/repair-service/schedule-repair
I recently bricked my rooted P769 trying to update to V20H and ended up sending it for repair. They fixed it within a week and sent it back with a note saying they replaced the flash memory. Same phone, remaining warranty still good, now on V20H. Works fine so far.

Hello
I have a similar problem. What if the computer can recognize the phone? When I plug the phone into the computer, I see OMAP4430 under unknown devices. I heard that a dead phone can be revived through fastboot or kdz updater, is that true? I tried following directions on different forums, but some directions ask that usb debugging is turned on but my phone is dead and I can't do that. When I followed some of the fastboot directions, I was only able to install the driver once and couldn't install it a second time.
yeah, USB debugging was a roadblock for me too.

More than likely the hardware just went out, if all you can use is the unofficial fastboot. If that's not the case maybe, just maybe the x & u images (from lelus fastboot tool) are corrupt. Re-download the fastboot zip and compare (md5 sum) x & u bin files. If one of the images are corrupt it won't boot or respond to anything.

UPDATE: still not working
however, using omap4boot-for_optimus-v1.21 i was able to get the capacitive buttons to light up on the front of the device. haven't noticed anything else as far as success with flashing anything.
the steps i took:
1. installed the fastboot drivers as instructed.
2. I ran omap4boot-for_optimus-v1.21 selected option 5, plugged in my phone, the buttons lit up, and it said to unplug the device and wait for S/W recovery mode, which never popped up.
what do i do?
