Hey all, my brother bought an LG P769 for T-Mobile from Walmart, he's never been the type to modify any of his technology, so he used his phone like it was out of the box, no root, no bootloader unlocking, or anything. One night, he gets a security error, his hone turns off, and he can no longer turn it on. The soft buttons don't light up, its not the battery, no moisture damage, and the phone is literally useless. He tried calling LG support, they won't replace it for some reason, as far as I know it was running 4.2, though I'm not sure (he's not here to ask, and I doubt he remembers)
Tried the hard reset, no luck.
Tried to do the offline fastboot method, I installed drivers correctly, and selected option 5, and this time it lights up the soft keys, but it never loads the security error screen, so I can't enter s.w upgrade mode. I've tried pressing 5, waiting the 5 seconds with it plugged in and leaving it plugged in without the battery, leaving it plugged in with the battery, and putting the battery in at different times during the 5 seconds and removing it afterwards, none of them boot to the security error screen.
Tried the LG Mobile Support tool, doesn't recognize my device, even though I installed the drivers directly from the tool.
What do I do?
bump
If you can't return it to Walmart and you are out of other options, you can send it in for repair by starting here: https://www.lg.com/us/support/repair-service/schedule-repair
I recently bricked my rooted P769 trying to update to V20H and ended up sending it for repair. They fixed it within a week and sent it back with a note saying they replaced the flash memory. Same phone, remaining warranty still good, now on V20H. Works fine so far.

The phone is only 4 months old so still covered under parts and labor warranty. It only cost me shipping charges to send it to Texas.

Sounds like a hardware issue... Get it turned in and ask for a replacement at T-mobile.

Hello
I have a similar problem. What if the computer can recognize the phone? When I plug the phone into the computer, I see OMAP4430 under unknown devices. I heard that a dead phone can be revived through fastboot or kdz updater, is that true? I tried following directions on different forums, but some directions ask that usb debugging is turned on but my phone is dead and I can't do that. When I followed some of the fastboot directions, I was only able to install the driver once and couldn't install it a second time.
yeah, USB debugging was a roadblock for me too.

I wonder if there is a way to turn it on through the computer. Or just a whole other solution that doesn't need it to be turned on.

More than likely the hardware just went out, if all you can use is the unofficial fastboot. If that's not the case maybe, just maybe the x & u images (from lelus fastboot tool) are corrupt. Re-download the fastboot zip and compare (md5 sum) x & u bin files. If one of the images are corrupt it won't boot or respond to anything.

UPDATE: still not working
however, using omap4boot-for_optimus-v1.21 i was able to get the capacitive buttons to light up on the front of the device. haven't noticed anything else as far as success with flashing anything.
the steps i took:
1. installed the fastboot drivers as instructed.
2. I ran omap4boot-for_optimus-v1.21 selected option 5, plugged in my phone, the buttons lit up, and it said to unplug the device and wait for S/W recovery mode, which never popped up.
what do i do?
Try this worked for me after trying everything in about 10 min. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2585161

I don't know how many times I posted because of this, but I think I'm done trying to fix it.
My phone, regardless of ROM, computer, or cable, etc, will isn't seen by any computer
I've installed all the drivers (through HTC sync) multiple times and on multiple computers. I've tried new roms, stock roms, nothing. New cables old cables, nothing. I've even formatted my SD cards and tried that way, nothing. I've tried the wireless ADB, and I get "<waiting for device>" which of course is never going to be found. I don't really think there's anything else I can do at this point but assume that it's my phone's USB port is damaged, can I replace that though?
Any ideas? And also someone could tell me about replacing hardware on this phone, that'd be great.
Thanks anyone.

Yes
All I know is that in my experience my phone stopped showing when I installed HTC drivers. It only came back up when I reinstalled windows. Try more computers before you determine it as a physical defect

I have tried 5, and I'm positive it isn't a problem with any of them.
If it charges over USB I have a hard time thinking the USB port has issues... There is one common denominator over the 5 computers you have tried
I had the same issue, unfortunately it was an issue with the USB port. I went through many, many cables and PCs ( xp, vista, win7) and I finally gave up. Called big red and got a warranty replacement

Nothing, the phone doesn't even realize it's being connected, although if you restart the phone with a cable plugged in (whether or not it's plugged into a wall or computer) the phone pops up with the options to charge only, etc. None of the options do anything though.

Why can't you? It's time consuming but you can. Run the ruu to get yourself back to stock. Lock the bootloader and s-on. Then you will be stock, unrooted and bootloader will say either relocked or tampered or whatever. Root it. S-off with junipbear but do not install the modified hboot. Then ruu again. You will now be completely stock, unrooted and bootloader will say locked. Worked perfectly fine for me.

If your phone doesn't realize it's plugged in, then you got a defect.
Verizon usually doesn't check for unlock/root and many people have successfully gotten replacements for rooted phones.

So I can't connect my Droid RAZR to my windows 7 machine...
I have tried a lot of things!
I've tried:
*Different computers including Vista and Linux
*Different cables
*Different fastboot files
*Re-installing drivers
*Factory reset
*PIM sync from the market etc.
What happens when I plug my phone into my PC is the computer recognizes it, it makes a sound, then it says Unknown Device connected or some times it says USB malfunctioned and then on my lockscreen it says the phone is charging but it doesn't show on my battery icon.
Whats also interesting is if I got into Fastboot mode and connect to my computer it says USB connected and then I can use it in RSD with no problems.
I'm on ICS with no root.
Please help!

Haha I am going to get to the bottom of this! I plan on calling Motorola early tomorrow. I've read a lot of stuff about the same problems and no resolution except for a warranty exchange or repair. That's understandable, I got this one for free because it wouldn't power on and got the white light of death. I knew it was still good because at least a light came on. Popped the back off, directly charged the battery for 2 hours and it's been running perfect except for the issues above. I didn't think I would say this, but the Razr is really impressive for the price...and I have 2 Galaxy S III's!

That was my main concern too! Just got off the phone with them. They let you send it in for repairs with no questions asked. There are a couple stipulations though, obviously no water damage and cracked screens:
HOW TO SEND
- Use secure packaging; We recommend using the free FedEx packaging that is available at a FedEx location. - Print the email (packing list) and include with the package when returning
- Include Proof-Of-Purchase (If Required For Warranty)
- Ensure box is well sealed and the product is well protected
Does anybody know how I can get a proof of purchase if I was not the original buyer of the phone?

Fastboot doesn't give "root status", that's recovery.
Next, Jeanjacq, are you able to fastboot the phone? Make sure you enable USB Debugging on the phone and try to put the phone into MTP mode, not mass storage mode (when you connect the phone to USB, a USB connection manager comes up on the top bar of the phone, click on it). What are the USB device IDs on the phone?
I don't think your USB port is damaged because you are able to fastboot the device. It sounds like some kind of configuration thing.
From Linux please do an lsusb and output the information, and from windows take a screenshot of your unknown device's hardware properties (i'm looking for the USB VID and PID in the screenshot)

So seems like a firmware/software issue. Is there any way to flash firmware without using usb to pc? Because it won't recognize the usb at all.

Weird problem. Not sure if it will work but you can try "flashify" from the play store to flash firmware, etc without usb. Keep us posted on your results.
Also see if you can access it through bootloader. You might be able to RUU. Alternatively, factory reset and install ROM in recovery. Or try side adb in recovery..

I have tried three different HTC branded charger/cable combinations. With no luck while booted up. I charged to 100% while shut off.
I have been running this combo for a week or something. Ever since the firmware hit the forums. And had no issues until two nights ago when this first started giving me grief... so I don't know what has caused it.
I also posted this over in the international forums and there's a guy over there with the same issue.

Lol. Now I'm not sure what to do. I reverted back to stock rom and recovery and then realized the touch drivers I have aren't compatible.... Unless the OTA adapter screwed up the USB connector pins for data but not power, then you should be able to recover. However like stated there has been a few reports of failed USB connectors.
Does there seem like there is any damage to the usb pins in the connector on the phone?
Did you make sure to have the HTC device drivers installed on your PC before trying ADB. Do you have a Windows 7 PC to try?

Unless the OTA adapter screwed up the USB connector pins for data but not power, then you should be able to recover. However like stated there has been a few reports of failed USB connectors.
Does there seem like there is any damage to the usb pins in the connector on the phone?

So far I have tried on win8 winxp and Ubuntu.on the windows pcs the drivers were definitely installed. No dice on any of them. I am thinking the connector must be messed up. I can't see anything obvious looking at it but the fact that on three pcs one of them running Linux didn't find the phone but will charge it is pretty definitive. I don't have the money to pay for repairs due to having "tampered" with the phone(even though it doesn't say that) it is an AT&T phone with s-off and unlocked and a 1.55 hboot and has a inverted splash screen. Pretty obvious...

If you boot the phone into the bootloader without the cable attached it should come up and say fastboot. When you attach the USB cable does the display on the phone change to fastboot USB or stay only fastboot?

Yep, then it seems the pinouts on the USB connector have been damaged. Bummer.
On the plus side consider this: AT&T will probably still give you device exchange without charging you a fee. First, they mostly don't care about users modding their phones. Secondly there are so many exchange requests coming into them for the One, that all the defective units will just be sent back to HTC directly by AT&T and at that point HTC is not going to bother to go back to AT&T and say listen this list of devices were modified. If they did, that would create a backlog on work for AT&T to match the records to owners and then contacting them and trying to prove that the user did this so far removed from the exchange that it doesn't make business sense to them.
I have seen AT&T users report that they have sent in devices that were extremely modified and obvious, but AT&T proceeded with the exchange anyway because they would rather keep you as a happy customer than spending time trying to prove what you did was the only cause of the failure. Users have even sent back total bricks that they created by doing something stupid and AT&T still replaced the device without question.
When you modded the phone, that basically ended AT&T's obligation to help you with any service/software related issues, but the modding did not void the hardware warranty and it seems your device has a hardware issue that was unlikely caused by the software modifications.
The key in your case would be to do the defective device exchange via phone/mail and not via the walk in device service center.
If you don't want to do this because of the possible risk of flagging by them, then I may be willing to buy your bricked device if you are not going to do anything with it. PM if interested.
Made the mistake of bricking my Att HTC ONE M7. Ive tried everything to revive this damn thing, did loads of research to see if anyone came up with a solution with no luck.
I was restoring my backup phone (Galaxy S2) to convert my mom to an android and get her away from that pile of **** iPhone. I downloaded a philz recovery from the xda app on my ONE for the S2 (which is something I've always had a rule against for this reason).
To make a Long story longer I, for some reason, thought it was for my ONE. Flashed it in recovery (TWRP) "Failed" then I realized what i did. But it failed, I then flashed a bootanimation. "Success"..
Restarted my device but it never came back on. No lights, screen, or response from any combination of buttons.
I guess the recovery flash ,even though it failed, was the nail in the coffin. I just can't believe it died that easy even though it let me flash a bootanimation. Not paying attention just cost me a lot of money and loads of pride.
It shows up qhsusb_dload in device manager. I e-mailed HTC and I'm gonna try a warranty claim. Also talked to someone about Jtag.
If anyone wants to attempt a solution Im game.. I will keep this post up to date with what run around HTC gives if I go that route. If anyone cares...

Update:: HTC told me to do this combination of buttons that I haven't read anywhere else. It didn't work for me but it might be a solution for others experiencing the dead black screen issue.
•Charge the device for at least 10 minutes
•With the device truly OFF while still being plugged into the wall outlet, push in and hold volume up and volume down AND power button, for 2 minutes.
•Let go. Device will boot up, and battery/charging logic are re-calibrated.

Their is a fix now .. I did mine today
QHSUSB_DLOAD Fix
This will fix devices which were bricked due to firmware incompatibility. This can be caused with the way HTC handles the firmware updates in it's m7's OTAs. If you've been flashing from a 3.x firmware to a 5.x firmware via OTA, or manually, you most likely have a device stuck in QHSUSB_DLOAD. This tool is for you
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770684
Prerequisites
the appropriate package for the device
a supported bricked device
a usb cable
fastboot
distro utils: md5sum, strings, tail, grep, unzip ( all included in most linux distros)
some basic linux experience
root access on a linux machine
patience
DISCLAIMER: We do NOT guarantee that this method will work for you, or that it is flawless. We are also not responsible if your phone is completely dead after the procedure, or your house burns down because your phone exploded. You are doing this in YOUR OWN RISK.
Instructions
Boot the linux box and download the appropriate package for the device.
Remove the sim card from the phone. Do not connect yet
Extract the package in your working directory
Open up a terminal and cd to that directory
Run revive.sh as root and connect the device
Code:
sudo ./revive.sh
The procedure is automated. At the end of the unbrick process, you will need to charge the device fully and then flash one of the full firmwares bundled, as pointed from the script. This is crucial to ensure device stability.

The problem with mine is that after I bricked it I sent it to be jtaged. When I got it back it wouldn't unlock to any network. No matter what it asks me for an unlock code.
Maybe I can run this on my phone and restore the emmc that cross checks the modem.???
What harm could it do

How much was it ?
I sent it to mobile tech videos... I heard good stuff about them but don't send it to them if you want your phone to work again. I don't remember what it cost me but I wish I would have waited for this unbrick method. The jtag process fried my modem or part of my motherboard. Try the unbrick method. People have had a lot of luck with that.

i tried that method but after the command i get a message error that my device isn't found
Okay I've never bricked a phone (lucky maybe) ever with all the phones I've owned. However I think my v10 is bricked? How can I tell?
Symptoms for diagnosis for the experts here at XDA, it keeps rebooting -bootloop at LG startup screen and never goes into recovery. Once in a 100 times makes it into TWRP (power button and volume down) but as soon as I click the screen it bootloop again. I can get into fastboot (volume down USB) and have tried sending a boot.img and recovery.img several times so far and still not holding TWRP recovery. ADB also won't show a device only fastboot device command shows the phone.
I had a Samsung phone once that behaved similarly, just kept on rebooting no matter what I did(didn't sit there forever, it would actually keep shutting down and trying to boot, repeatedly). Same in download mode. I sent it in and they replaced the digitizer, I believe. Could be the same, but keep trying everything!

Yeah I thought something like that, but because it doesn't do a reboot when I get into recovery or download (can stay on indefinitely) I thought it might be something else.
How did it get into this condition? Were you flashing something?

Nope just happened. Was traveling outside USA and when it registered it did this. Didn't work when came back to the USA so figured maybe try to reinstall software (thinking it might be that) again to fix. So thinking maybe your theory of a hardware failure is possible. and maybe should just try to get an exchange.

ah ok, sounds like it wasn't your fault, so an exchange should hopefully be in order. keep us posted
