Hi,
So I tried to wipe the cache of my Swype keyboard but I identically cleared the data, and this for some reason has led to the destabilizing of my entire phone.
So initially I got the "Android Keyboard (AOSP) has stopped working" error. So I just disabled the keyboard and installed the GO keyboard so that have something to work with. However, my SD card is UNREADABLE, gallery won't open, camera won't work, can't view images sent to me, I can't even backup my contacts and messages to do a clean install because my phone can't pick up an external SD!
Do you guys have any idea on how I could either
a) fix this
b) backup my contacts and messages without the use of an app that requires I have an SD card
Also, if I go to ClockWorkRecovery, my SD card is picked up. I have tried wiping cache and dalvik as well as installing the rom over again, didn't work.
Thanks

Problem is I already have CM10 installed? I don't think KIES would work, and even then, my PC doesn't recognise my phone, I plug it in, it shows up on My Computer but I can't browse its contents

Hello
I downloaded an app called 'To Do List' and it created a folder called "download manager" on my SD card which i have since managed to delete.
However, everytime i boot my Hero, it takes a long time to start and always gives me the message that touch input settings is not responding and i have to force close. And then my keyboard does not work. Also, since installing this app my phone does not recognise the SD card. It says "Unavailable" in Settings > SD Card & Phone storage.
I put my SD card in a card reader and connected it to my PC and it recognises it and this is where i deleted the "download manager" folder.
Since then i have installed two different Roms and both are still giving me the same problem.
I have since deleted the app but i think the problem is there is a file called "download manager" in:
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications
When i click on it, it gives me the option to "Clear data" . So i click on that and it tells me it will permanently delete all of this applications data. However, when i reboot the phone the file is stiill there and running.
I'm no expert but i think this is what's causing the problem. Is there any way i can delete this file so it never comes back cos its really getting on my nerves that my phone isn't working properly.
I have done a factory data reset several times but still i have the same problem.
I have done the reset through Settings > Privacy > Factory Data Reset.
When installing the new rom i have done data wipe, cache wipe and dalvik wipe.
Still the little ****** doesn't go away.
Can somebody please help?
Thank you.
try an Sd card wipe as well when flashing a new rom.. including wiping your ext partition and then re forming.. that is if you are using an ext apps2sd
i'm reluctant to re-format my SD card because i have a lot of music/photos etc stored on there. i do have them backed up on my PC however it does take a long time to drag them onto my SD card.
I deleted the download manager file from my sd card so i'm guessing the problem file it stored on the phones memory.
Is there no way to delete files from the manage applications part on the phone?
Well I think you should give it a go.backup your photos and music and then re Copy them. Even if it does take up to an hour it maybe better than living with the annoyances

Do you use apps2sd using the ext partition. Not wiping that would be a problem when flashing most new roms

i re formatted my SD card and flashed a new rom and all seems to be ok now. took me a while but it seems to have paid off. Thank you so much for your help.
Your welcome.. slap the thanks button if you feel like it (cheeky)

I have been using checkrom revolution hd v4 for 2 weeks with DK 2.5.2 with no problems. But after a nornal reboot today, the SD card (internal) can't be read even after several reboots. I tried to formatted it but it can't be formatted either. Just bought my SGS2 two months ago only.
What should i do to recover function of my SD card again? Is it because of the custom rom that caused this issue?
Please help. Thanks!

Try doing a full-stock restore, making sure to do a factory reset, wipe the cache and Dalvik cache along the way. If you're still having problems, take it to a Samsung service center.
That's really strange though - I'd assume that if the OS can't read/write the internal storage, then it shouldn't be able to flash a ROM, or even really load the OS?
just a thought... have you tried to: connect your phone via usb as external drive and have windows do a repair of harddrive.
i had a sdcard which was "read only" under android, after that procedure it worked again flawless
in my case the cause was a faulty titanium backup file....

Thanks for the help! I suspect it might be Titanium Backup problem. The OS finally read the internal SD after a few more reboots but all the data inside is wiped out Not to mention I accidentally formatted my external SD by mistake as well. Sigh...got to restore everything bit by bit. Do you think it could be a media problem initially (i.e. problem with the internal SD)?
Last night I go into CWM and accidently press fix permissions after a while I reboot my phone
And now, everytime I go into Setting - Storage, a notification says "Unfortunately, Setting has stopped",
Also when I plug the phone to my PC it my internal and external storage are not shown on my desktop and it says "Unfortunately, USB Connectivity has stopped"
The thing is,when I remove my microsd, everything works fine, when I insert it, it's like there is a conflict between my microsd and internal storage. So without microsd my internal storage can be seen from Setting - Storage, but if microsd is inserted, none can be seen, and I can't even go into Setting - Storage
I'm using MT27i_6.1.1.B.1.10_Global.ftf ICS firmware
Things that I've tried
1. Wipe everything (Dalvik, cache, data, etc)
2. Do a system restore from CWM to the time when everything is fine
3. Fix my permission again
4. Re-install my firmware via PC Companion
5. Re-install my firmware via Flashtool
And it's still not working, help me please..
try to restore the phone to factory settings.
Settings -> Back-up and restore -> factory reset.
Alas, I tried a different microsd this morning and walah.. it became normal.. I think it's a bad microsd problem, or so I hope.. will be testing it for a while now.. wish me luck
Buy or if you have an USB Card Reader. Plug it in your PC. Go to properties and select check for errors and defrag it if possible.
Yep, I tried 3 other microsd and all of them work fine..
Try settings reset
Also do a factory data reset

Actually it's night time, and my hand-eye cooridination is low during those times
But anyway, new microsd just came in and everything'sback to normal
So, this occurred BEFORE I upgraded to the new AOKP.
I was using AOKP 4.1.2 before upgrading to 4.2. I had some issues with lost space (the internal SD card, both under Settings->Storage and when plugged into a computer, was reporting that I was using more space than I really was because of a few bum files that failed to transfer properly), so I went into Settings -> Storage and wiped the internal SD card which solved my space issue and everything was working great (it was also a bit faster since I cleaned up all the touchwiz remnants). I just wanted to point out that I had wiped the internal SD card previously with success and no problems.
Before upgrading to AOKP 4.2, I followed the suggestions for upgrading and went to do a backup of the current ROM using CWM. It rebooted into recovery, and then it failed to make a complete backup saying it failed to access some \data folder or something. I then rebooted the phone so I could copy over the AOKP/Gapps zips, and just decided to flash without any backups present. However, before doing this, I wanted to wipe the SDcard of the CWM backup remnants. Upon doing this, all Gapps/Gprocesses were constantly crashing (as if I wiped some necessary data off the SDcard). I rebooted, and all was fine, except now accessing "Storage" under "Settings" was crashing Settings when attempting to access. So to be clear it was crashing before flashing.
I figured a flash of AOKP 4.2 would fix things, but it still crashes. To be perfectly clear, the flashing of AOKP 4.2 and GApps was successful, but it seems something has been altered on the SDcard that is making Settings crash when I access Storage.
I can access the internal SDcard in Windows. I can access the internal SDcard in ES File Manager. I can copy, delete, and do everything as if all is normal. Just, whenever I try to access "Storage" under settings it instantly crashes Settings saying it has unexpectedly crashed.
Side note: I tried to get an aLogCat log to copy here, but when I open the app the history is empty even though it is logging live. I get the standard alert on the screen saying that it is attempting to read the stored logs when I open the app, but nothing appears.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
FWIW, I had the exact same issue. Between that and the lack of TouchWiz contacts (swipe left to SMS, right to call), I went back to Shostock and its battery drain.

Well, I was not experiencing the issue until I wiped the SD card.

Oh, mine did it even though I didn't wipe the SD card. I wonder if it's a bug with the JB 4.2 build of AOKP...?

Well I was having the issue with 4.1.2 as well after wiping the card. So something seems to be missing on the card that lets that storage "app" (per se) in the settings read the internal sdcard properly.
In AOKP 4.2.1 it's a known issue that settings-storage crashes. For everyone.

Ah ok. Thanks for letting me know. A bit of a relief - I figured I broke something.
So I'm just literally fu*ked up. Everyting started yesterday then I decided to clean my phone using SDmaid like I do regularly once a month or so.. After cleaning it I noticed that most of my apps disappeared. Then I just opened settings, few other apps and everything crashed. Then I was pressing all the buttons and lockscreen showed up, but screen was not responding to my touches. I force rebooted it, but after booting everything was laggy and frezed again. Then I entered TWRP and cleared davlik cache and cache. Still nothing changed. I reflashed ROM. Nothing. I deleted everything, formated memory, wiped all the parts. And then connected my opx to pc, to upload rom, kernel, supersu. Then I noticed that the sd card isn't responding. I took it out and connected directly to my pc. Tried formatting it, chkdisk in command prompt, virus scan and so on.. Nothing - all my files left and they are unusable just like the card itself. How do I fix this? Then after wiping I noticed one thing - it says dev/zero process ended wit ERROR=255 and it happens all the time then I try to wipe /data. So I assume the /data is corrupted too? I hope you understood something and will be able to help me. Now excuse me while I'll be crying in the corner :crying::crying::crying:
How I assume is that the SDMaid app somehow managed to break my sd card and /data? Help, I really need my phone tomorrow.

it might be corrupted then. try out deleting and recreating partition table:
go cmd lane(admin rights)
1. diskpart
2. list disk
3. select diskN #where number is your microSD
4. clean
5. create partition primary size=x #X stands for unallocated space
6. select partition1
7. format fs=fat32 quick
8. assign (adds a letter for drive)

EDIT: So I removed the card and reset my phone to the factory settings like you suggested. Also did all the OTA updates and it seems to be working fine. (I hope /data issue fixed too) And I think I just take the micro sd card back to the shop for repair.

Indeed I would you suggest doing that, the first(factory reset) keep it, its pretty useful and handy tool. I also suggest you to not use any "system" clearing tools, android its not like windows ^_^ there is almost nothing to clean
