Hi all! I recently got a Sony Tablet S on stock honey comb 3.2.
I installed all drivers and tried rooting it using some tools provided on this forums including the latest AiO tool but it gives me an error message.
Says it cannot be rooted because of the kernel and something about being "locked down".
I read that devices upgraded to R5 can't be rooted but I don't know if that's my case as I bought it from someone and don't know if they upgraded it to R5 or which android firmware it's on R5. Mine it's on android 3.2
Can someone point me in the right direction?
-Thanks in advance.

3.2 is old skewl. R5 is ICS. I suggest you read my faq and look at post #2. You will need to flash the 3.2.1R2 to root. Hopefully you have the US tab as there is not many 3.2.1 files around.
Do not accept any OTA updates.
Is it kernel 10?

Not the issue he is talking about 3.2 NOT 3.2.1.
3.2 is not rootable where is 3.2.1r2 < kernel 10 is ROOTABLE
Or he could ICS, R1 or even R5, NOT R5a though

Thank you man! I was losing all hope. It's an US tab thankfully, just point me into the right thread and I'll start digging in as soon as I get home.

Below is a link to where I detailed my steps in rooting/updating a Sony Tablet S from stock 3.2 to 3.2.1r2, which I rooted and used to install pre-rooted 4.0.3r1a. The 3.2.1r2 and 4.0.3r1a files I used are both US WiFi Only. 4.0.3r1a is no longer available online but I can upload it to 4share for you to download if you want. You do not really need to install 4.0.3r1a. A better solution is after you have rooted 3.2.1r2 installed, use it along with Condi's ALLinONE tool to install his pre-rooted doubleFLASH 4.0.3r5a with r1a's system recovery utility; link added below. I hope you find this information helpful.

Thanks man! I flashed ICS 120410 for easy root because I'm planning to upgrade to R5A with root. But on ICS 120410 everything was working fine until after root.. now the PlayStore icon shows but it says "App not installed". And the app list just shows the official ones from Sony :/ I also tried to upgrade to R5A through AiO to see if this would fix it but when I chose option 3 it came out a red screen and said "build.incremental value to high, reapply 'rescue-backdoor'" I copied the R5A to the SD and that's what it said.
UPDATE: Did some digging with the AiO tool. Trying to install the mooded google play store app from the options. Let's see how it goes
UPDATE 2: Didn't worked :/
Factory reset then root again?? It sometimes does that

I recommend you wait until Condi posts a new version of his S.onyTablet.S [FLASHER] tool, which is expected to happen soon. Condi recently said the new version will contain several fixes and additional firmware versions.

I haven't rooted and I could download and apply the OTA fine, so it would appear that rooting prevents OTA!
