with stock recovery no issue. if you are using any other custom recovery make sure it has brick bug fixed.

This whole brickbug issue appears with stock recovery, not with custom ones. And it's only with 4.0.4, so the OP won't notice any brickbug at all if he uses JB.

To answer your question: No it wont. brick bug is in 4.0.4 kernel.
Now answer my question, why are you flashing the leaked/beta rom when the public/final has been released??

choose the correct 4.0.3 stock rom and flash the same thro Odin
Flash through odin. I doesn't matter whether it is Gingerbread or ICS.
But do not use CWM to wipe. You will brick it.
Good luck!

I flashed Siyah over the stock kernel. Would it be safe to wipe in CWM now (using 4.0.4, XXLQ6)

Yes, 4.0.4 has the brick bug, but that should not stop you from returning to stock.
Download ICS 4.0.3 stock firmware.
Perform factory reset in your new phone
Flash via Odin.

Jes thats waht RR means so im safe if returning to stock 4.0.3 with odin and would anyone be kind enough to give me a link to download stock rom and the instructions with odin
To download the firmware go to sammobile. com, login and select the firmware for your phone and country.
Then in recovery full wipe, format /system and then reboot in download mode. Connect the phone to the pc with the USB cable, wait for Odin recognising it and fhen flash it

1. You can download 4.0.3 firmware on here on XDA or on Sammobile. On Sammobile, you will have the option to download the stock ICS firmware for your country
2. Odin Flashing Tutorials here on XDA

1. The firmware you are downloading ICS 4.0.3 is very safe. Only 4.0.4 comes with brick bug on its stock kernel. So don't download ICS 4.0.4 firmware
2. Technically, warranty is already voided, If anybody should flash a leaked firmware, or root his phone.
Brick bug or not, Samsung is not 100% at fault if anybody should brick his device while flashing a leaked firmware or after rooting his phone.
The user has to take his own share of the blame too.

(Q) eMMC superbrick risk using KIES/OTA methods being on 4.0.4 stock?

Hello,
Can you superbrick you phone updating from 4.0.4 stock (entire rom including stock bootloader and kernel) using KIES or OTA?
I mean those scenarios:
- Having 4.0.4 stock and using KIES to upgrade to 4.1.2 or other.
- Having 4.0.4 stock and updating via OTA to 4.1.2 or other.
I ask this because KIES is in some way like ODIN, since it downloads the entire rom to the phone (but then I don't know if it does wipe or just pastes the code like ODIN), but OTA doesn't seem to do the same since it only download an small part of the rom to update.
Thank you in advance.
I believe the super brick only happens when you wipe data

No, you will only brick if you wipe data with the super brick. Just get a tar of siyah or dorimanx kernel and flash through Odin.

I know that you superbrick you phone by doing wipe/nandroid restore on stock kernel having the 0x19 FwRev eMMC chip, I am asking about updating the phone via OTA/KIES, can you get the eMMC superbrick that way or it's like flashing a rom with ODIN that doesn't do wipes?

No, the superbrick bug was on the stock kernal. kies does not use the stock kernal to wipe your phone it uses the pc to do the wiping.
As along as you switch from the stock kernal before doing a reset you will be safe.

Yeye I know using non-stock kernel is safe hehe thanks , this scenario uses the stock kernel.
So KIES can't superbrick a phone because it doesn't wipes? I thought that it sent the file to the device and then maybe wiped
Btw, what about OTA updates also?
ota should not brick it as you will have a modified kernal on your phone which means it would use the modified kernal wipe command which is brick bug safe.

No, as I tell you on this scenario I use the stock kernel! Would OTA cause a superbrick on this situation?

OTA updates or Kies will not brick ur phone for sure when on ICS v4.0.4 ma8
it (brick) happens if u do any wipes (Manually) within the recovery of the stock kernels that comes with ics v4.0.4

That's good to hear, thanks
But could I ask why they can't superbrick the phone? On KIES you send the entire ROM to the device, but then it opens the actual recovery to flash it.. right? On OTA you only download a small part of the rom and you also use the actual recovery to flash it.. sure they don't wipe at all?

Upgrading from 4.0.4.to 4.1.2

Hi I have a question.
My friend has this Galaxy S2(I9100) with stock 4.0.4 ROM and after seeing my phone with Jelly Bean official from Samsung he wants to update hired phone too.
But since the 4.0.4 has that brick bug or so he is afraid to flash it through Odin.
Also can he flash the new 4.1.2 firmware without wiping. Will all his apps be there and is it recommended top do it that way.
Thanks all.

Check got brickbug app from playstore first.
If it is sane, flash it thru odin / mobile odin.
If it isn't, flash siyah and then flash 4.1.2.
I am in the same position but I have the insane chip. When I read the Siyah post the first thing it says is that it can only be used on JB not ics so is it safe to flash it on ics 4.0.4 before flashing 4.1.2 via odin as it says above?
Thanks

Dude, it doesnt make a single difference if he has the sane chip or not and flashing Siyah before flashing his rom via ODIN is completely and utterley pointless since its replaced when flashing via odin. The brickbug is part of stock recovery and since he wont be entering 4.0.4 recovery at any point and flashing via ODIN he has no need to worry about it.

Ignore what was said earlier.
If you want to flash without wiping and keep apps/appdata then simply....
Reboot into download mode
Flash stock rom (.md5 or .tar)
Reboot into download again and flash Siyah v6 beta4 or above
You have no need to worry about brickbug. Only time it would affect you is if you was booting into stock 4.0.4 recovery and you have no need to do that at all.

Its not just about having the kernel its also about having root and cwm recovery.
I flashed Siyah kernel first than the XWLS8 4.1.2 all through Odin and everything is working as it should.

Didn't you noticed that lots of people just love wipping data?
You gotta lay it out for them, so they can play it safe. I know you don't enjoy people bricking their devices.
You really need to remember when you first started flashing phones...and be more emphatic.
Bricking fear..is motivation here.

[Q] Troubleshoot my Phone

I was switching my phone off and then on again when suddenly all the icons and customization I made went back to factory default. My installed apps are still there but they will crash once I open them.
Is there any way to find out what is the issue and how to resolve this? My phone is rooted by the way but I have been using for a year with no problems.
Thanks!

Is there a guide for wipe/reset? Does this mean the phone will go back to the factory 'unrooted' state?
Any help is appreciated as I don't want to mess things up further, thank you!
If you fullwipe you will lose all data on your phone exept for internal or external sd. Also this will not affect root.
This is safe exept if you're running 4.0.4, than you first have to flash a custom kernel who has the brickbug patched.
