Folks,
sorry to bother you but not sure where I should turn next. Like most of us here I am the proud owner of the AT&T version of the Galaxy S II One of the features it was suppose to have is the ability to stream from your 2011 Samy HDTV to your Galaxy S 2 or Tab. I have such a TV (PN64D7000) and wanted soo bad to try this.
However when I go to the market it says my phone is NOT compatible??? Huh???
In every web article I have seen about this I have never seen any blub saying its only working for certain versions of the Galaxy S II.
(for example this one: http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/02/samsung-smart-view-shrinks-smart-tv-down-for-your-galaxy-s-ii/)
I have tried to contact the Andriod Market folks to see why. I also asked Sammsung Tech support as well. I guess the next stop is AT&T?
Just was not sure where to go next as I want to play with this feature.. Any other ideas?
I did see another XDA thread in the general apps section about where they are trying to port this apps to non sammy phones...
There are 2 fixes. Take out your SIM card and download through the Android Market. Or turn on Airplane mode, then just turn WiFi on and download.

Hey there,
thanks for the reply. I tried both and neither worked. Each time I only could see the remote and a few other apps. Any other ideas as it sounds too simple even for me to screw up Thanks again!

You can try this approach found on youtube that worked for the Note 3:

Hey guys and gals. Just got my S2 couple days ago and I love it, few minor issues that I would love some help on.
First of all background. This is an international S2 i9100 with firmware of
PDA: KJ1 Phone: KI4 CSC: KJ3 (TUR). (from kies)
I bought this locally here in Turkey after the frustration that my iphone4 was locked to att and my droid incredible is cdma only.
One of my biggest concerns is Android market. I do not have the Same market that i do on my HTC incredible (verizon wireless USA bought). The market that came with S2 is only for free apps and missing most of the popular free apps.
How can I get the US version of Android market.
-After googling this I found out that I needed to install market enabler on a rooted phone. Is there any other method of doing this? (flashing with UK or US based ROM?)
Even though I have owned HTC incredible for 2 years, I never customized or rooted :/ and naturally i dont have any idea whats goin on here, can anyone point me in the right direction of customizing and tweaking the s2 (would love to see what this phone can do).
Thanks in advance
-darewinder
I would start here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134290
Read the first few posts, then look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Again read the first few posts, then at least the last 10.
Once you understand the process, go ahead and root your phone.
Then read some of the ROM threads and try any you like the look of. I like VillainROM myself. Stock with some useful tweaks
Hope this helps
Thanks for the great info. I really dont want to root until i am fully confertable with it
Do you know the issue with the android market i mentioned above? The fact that mine is very limited (due to my location, ROM?)

I think the only way to use a different version of market it by only rooting.(someone correct if i am wrong). i think what you need is an app called market enabler. and that should do the trick...any other way i am not familiar with sorry.
Here you go mate a link to give you a bit more info what i was talking about
http://www.redmondpie.com/market-enabler-enable-paid-apps-in-android-market-outside-us-9140493/
hmm. I am a little confused by this since the HTC incredible i have has an US market working fine. (on the same wifi network as my s2)
I am currently using the Samsung infuse 4g on rogers network in Canada... I am little tired of this phone cause I like CM7 but can't have BT if I use it... I saw an ad for a white Samsung galaxy s2 that is unlocked and rooted... Is that a good phone with a lot of devs and stuff like that? Is it a good phone as well? I have heard it was but not sure if they were right... If this is the wrong place for this then please can someone direct me there? Thanks
Yep, it's a pretty good phone. Look its Dev Forum
Hello All
Okay this might sound like a noob question, but will it be possible for the devs to port some of the cool S3 features like Smart Stay, and the ability to call someone from the SMS window to the S2?
I mean I just wanna ask that since the S3 kernel has now been released, are we going to see custom S2 ROMs in the future with S3 features? Because some of the cool new features are hardly dependent on the new S3 hardware. For example, Smart Stay.
Thanks,
yes why not, just wait for it
i'm waiting for this too patience is a virtue!

Actually I meant that if you have an SMS conversation open and when you put up the phone to your ear, it automatically dials the number.
Apparently you can flash the full S3 stock ROM on a S2, just search it. I assume this gives you all that functionality. And there are workarounds to get S Voice on your phone. I don't know about the other stuff.

Cite your source please.
I find this EXTREMELY hard to believe, as the S2 doesn't have the hardware to support all the features in an actual full S3 firmware.
More likely, you saw an S2 ROM that contained the TouchWiz UX port, and themed to look as close as possible to an S3.

your are wrong dear , and you may make someone hardbrick his phone if he read your post , flashing firmware of any other phone even if it was galaxy s2 but not the international version will end mostly with ahard bricked phone " you can say that apiece of plastic"

I think you misunderstood the context of his post. It appears that juzerali was agreeing with MY post, which was expressing a high amount of doubt that there exists a full s3 ROM that is flashable to an s2.

Thanks. I was indeed agreeing with your post
Well then I apologise, I'm still at a laptop, I thought a search would be able to validate what I said. Obviously I don't mean that someone should flash a ROM meant for the S3 on a S2! But thanks for the good community involvement...
There are threads about the S Voice workaround though (I'm still on phone so difficult to reference source, sorry)

no need to apologise , there are alot of people that they will not search before flashing there phones so that they may flash the s3 directly and then they will come here and say , what is the wrong with my phone
btw , s-voice is working nice in my phone , just edited tow lines in the build.prop
so that it will think my phone is 19300 and the server can't filter out my data
and i heared that , there is modifeied s-voice that will work without modifing build.prop , don;t know

Here's what I read earlier: you can use the s3''s UX Launcher on the S2:
http://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-galaxy-s3-touchwiz-launcher-ported-galaxy-s2-89525/
http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s2-gt-i9100-touchwiz-ux-launcher-galaxy-s3-gt-i9300-90791/
http://www.google.co.za/url?sa=t&so...4YnXDw&usg=AFQjCNG_qWkR2-JMd4jeEYwr8toM34Gs2Q
But I don't believe the UX Launcher gives you the 'cool' capabilities of the S3...or maybe it does?
Once again I apologise for reporting on the wrong thing earlier

Yes you can use the s3 launcher but sure will not give you the awesome features , just hope that we can use some software features that aren't hardware related in our beloved s2

I think its not possible, because its works due to sensor that mean by hardware... which is missing in S2...
s3 features and power

May be it is nice to port s3 features to s2 but then the power requirements may be more and your battery may not be sufficient. And most of the features of the s3 thar are not in s2 are power intensive.
I have just got the Samsung Galaxy S3. This is my first Android phone since HTC Desire HD & they have changed a lot since then.
I am trying to find a way round using the Sky Go App which is not compatible with Galaxy S3 yet & Sky have said no idea when. I have searched through the threads & I'm a bit lost with what they are saying.
I am wondering if there is a step by step guide anywhere that explains what is required & how to do it?
Many Thanks in advance.
