I'm getting great battery life with moderate use as long as I am not talking on my phone but as soon as I am it decreases 3 times as fast. I can get over 3 days with moderate use over the weekend but once the work week starts I only get about 26 hours on a charge. I have an under clocking profile set up to nock the phone down to minimum when on a call. Just wondering if a different dialer would save battery or anything else I'm not thinking of. Thanks for any advice.

Don't think the dialer will make much difference. What radio are you on? The latest is best on battery. My opinion anyway.
I've never messed with radios before. Is that about all I can do for battery life while calling and are the stock radios that bad on battery life. Also am I able to flash radios while being s-on? Appreciate the help

You have to be s off to flash the radios alone.. But you can achieve the same thing by flashing an RUU via ph98img in bootloader. That will also update your hboot and firmware etc..

Loading a new ruu with an updated hboot won't mess with my ROM kernel our recovery will it? And do I just put it in the zip load hboot and let it update? And to get the most recent radios do I just look for the most update ruu? And I've heard of global ruu and other types, is there a certain one I need to look for? Sorry for all the questions never went into this before and want to make sure I'm doing it right. Thanks again

Ok finally had some downtime from driving and did some research and I guess my last question is after I relock the bootloader and flash the zip from the locked bootloader will it erase all the data and if it does cam I unlock the bootloader and just restore the nandroid from cwm? Thanks for your help again.

You can install joker kernel and undervolt as well as putting profiles thru setcpu. Lower screen brightness all the way down. Just a few if the top of my head.

Can i flash roms and kernels with only being rooted? Or do i need to unlock?
And whats being used on photon?
Does rom manager have cwm built in or does photon require a flashable cwm or bootstrap?
Seems everything is not as easy as was on the evo.

What do u mean by both version?
Links to locked version i dont think im gonna unlock but id like to try a new kernel compatible to stock rom
Im hearing rsd flash fails for almost everyone that tries and ends up bricking
If rsd flash method was 100% safe id try it.

Custom kernel REQUIRES unlock
First time I've heard of it consistently bricking phones and I rsd flash BOTH my mophos a couple times a week. Even when rsd says "fail" I've never had an issue when doing it properly (factory reset from settings/wipe from recovery/rsd flash).

Downgraded what? from what?
In all honesty, the evo 3d on stock is an awful phone, god bless the dev's as i'd be pissed if they didn't do what they do.
Root and s-off your phone get a custom recovery and flash a custom rom, make sure to back up and choose the rom which most resembles her's, Leedroid does a good stock rom with enhancements.
Theres guides on how to do this in the dev section.
She was on hboot 1.5 and down graded to 1.4 she has ruu 1.13 I think installed when she used to have 2.17 I was looking at meanrom but it says I have to update to the 2.17 firmware

Go to this thread and download the zip. Rename it PG86IMG.zip and place it on the root of the SD card. Reboot into bootloader and it will automatically apply the upgrades to the 2.17 firmware.
You then need to remove the SD card and delete that file. Download MeanROM onto the card and then put the card back in the phone. Boot into recovery and flash the ROM following the directions in the ROM's original post.
If you used to have 2.17 you should already have the latest firmware. Even after downgrading I didn't lose it. Now, the radio was a different story

That's why I suggested what I did: mainly so the firmware, radio, etc would all be updated so there would be no incompatibilities.
Unknowns guide says to use the 1.13 ruu which it down graded the OS,when I got done downgrading the hboot and booted back up I was still on 2.17 but the guide said run the ruu so I did, but I well try what you said when I wake up

Yes, you have to use the 1.13 ruu initially for the downgrade, but then you update to 2.17 and then install a ROM (at least that's what I did).

Glad it worked for you ! My battery sometimes drains 10% on a restart, so if you restarted during that 20 minutes, that might be why. Also, I've noticed that ROMs sometimes take a little time to settle in for some reason. MeanROM is usually VERY good on battery life (especially screen off), so I recommend recharging the phone and then testing the battery life. Also remember that the Evo3d is a beast and so screen on time is usually a few hours.

I don't know much about that phone. Does it have a bigger battery, slower processor, different screen size/type? All those could affect battery. Also, it's hard comparing different phone models. When I compare battery life I get now as compared to before I rooted, there is no comparison. My phone is faster with better battery by far. I get about 24 hours between charges with about 3 hours of screen on time.
I saw your post in the mean ROM forum. Their suggestions to reflash with Chad's super wipe first and to turn off 4g will help. 4g is a battery hog. Also try to lower brightness to the lowest comfortable level.

just downed hboot!!!!!
So I just did downgrad toolkit and I'm very happy I reccomend it to everyone looking to mod and have control overtther phone I mean we payed for them we should be Abel to use them as intended anyway its my first post however I've been hanging around for 2years learning and soaking it all up...the thing is I speell like worse then my 3year old but I was so happy about the downgrade hboot I had to say thank you....p.s. like the thread says bricking device is the hardiest part I was nervous for one and the timing he talked about was hard to hit it took hours I finnaly took it into my own hands and when loading to boot loader while the ruu.IMG was loading I connected via ac and as soon as it asked me if I wanted to update I said yes I'm almosted thinking it has something to do with battery being out prior that made it less difficult..so anyway thanks xda and sorry about the rambiling and I'm sure I'm in the wrong thread or something lol...
Title pretty much says it but just wondering if anyone has not been able to run custom kernels. It started with my attempt with Komodo etc., but I always get some form of screen flashes or massive FCs. Im am rooted with original 1.12 hboot. I have been able to successully load and run ROMs from Viper to AOKP, even CM10.1 but never able to run a custom kernel. I have wiped clean, reset and still no go. I am using the 2.2.1 TWRP so wondering if the newest TWRP would fix that ability? I know some of the EVO LTEs just wont run with a custom kernel but figured I would try.
Thanks in advance for any input.

Are you S-Off or S-On. I would flash the latest recovery just to be safe.

I've had the same issue with Komodo. I'm S-OFF 1.19. I tried on the latest twrp, 2.3.3, and even on a tip re-flashed 2.3.1
I was able to boot after flashing with 2.3.1, sometimes...but it really wasn't stable enough to even try to use. Constant reboots, FC's, bootloops, etc
The device I'm having this issue on is an insurance replacement from asurion, the 4th one to be exact. i never had this issue on any of the previous devices...my first was new via preorder, that was stolen, and the first 2 refurbs were returned due to other hardware defects, although at least they could run a custom f***ing kernel.
as far as I've been able to tell nobody has found the issue that makes some devices not take to a custom kernel.

Thanks for the replies. I am S-OFF, current baseband etc. I haven't tried the voltage mod, but will look into that and come back for questions if necessary. If you have any tips on the voltage mods etc, feel free to pass them on. I have tried to use Goo Manager to download the newest TWRP but kept getting errors but haven't tried today. Will try to get the most recent on and look at voltage mods. Its not a huge deal, I get great battery life and its fast enough but I wanted to at least see if there was something specific that I have been missing to run the kernels. Thanks for all the replies!
The Komodo kernel worked only after updating TWRP to newest and I also had to use the voltage mod as neither would load without it. Great advice and for first time I am running custom kernel on top of PACMAN ROM. I tried capped at 1.7 then 2.1 both work but the 2.1 started to indicate some weird results within minutes of loading. I backed down to 1.9/384 and looks to be the sweet spot. Thanks again!

I'm running a custom stock tweaked jb sense Rom on hboot 1.19 and radio 0809....not one issue whatsoever personally....didn't update to latest radio or hboot for personal reasons and everything working perfectly....the nav crashing issue is a hit or miss issue per device...some have it some don't, hasn't been figured out....I personally fixed the issue by going through several refurb replacements til it worked...seems to be a manufacturing batch pattern...hope that helps...
Ps: when you say you used viperboys Rom, are you talking about the stock odex zip file? If so, you might still be on older hboot...that zip doesn't change radio or hboot versions....just the Rom/system file itself...b

Not possible with stock ICS sense ROM currently that I know of...only with non stock and nodded ROMs...you can have a sense ROM with this mod lime viper rez for example....just not stock as that's a build tree input as for battery drain you may of done something improperly...I'm on a 4.3 ROM and get about 11 hours on stock battery

Im doin everything right when i clean flash 4.3 roms. But like i said, i listen to music allday at work and only get 6 hours on 4.3. And get 10 on stock? Ive tried govners and everything.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Not the kernel....its actually faster because its using less resources and bs than sense or prior roms...good example...sense rom can bee over 400mb and bloaded with unnecessary things where as a 4.3 rom only uses 175mb on average...did you read up on wakelocks at all...also what hboot and radios are you on...that can also play a big factor in battery drain...again on stock battery I get 11 hours

do you only wipe dalvik and cache? and its in the list if i were to scroll down more as i listened to it maybe for 2 hours while at work..my suggestion is stay stock...some newer jb roms will allow you to stay at 192 min and undervolt max to 1.2ghz and it will still run just fine and use less battery....stock max frequency on sense is 1.5 which drains more...when not in use i toggle unnecessaries off such as wifi and bluetooth and also i clear recents and use fast reboot so apps arent running in background....im pretty anal with my phone and how its setup

Have you tried a 4.2.2 ROM like infection? I would get near same battery life as I do now on 4.3
