Droid X2 Repair question, "mainboard" swap? - Motorola Droid X2

So I bought an X2 for STUPID cheap with a bad ESN (much cheaper than I could buy just a new replacement digitizer)
Mine has a broken digitizer and is generally just beat-up looking.
can I just swap the mainboards (along with the IMEI sticker so it matches the radio)
this will save me SO much tedious work, and having to buy a torx t3 that I will inevitably lose in my travels.
and um... anyone want whats left of the bad ESN model for any reason or need any parts?
since I seem to be the only person on the face of this planet that actually likes this phone, I would like to keep it running!

and does anyone know why there's a tag that says REPAIRW/EXH on a phone that's never been touched by anyone other than myself since I bought it brand freakin new? Is Verizon doing shady things that I should get angry about? (well, if it is repaired, they did a good job, because it truly is the best damn phone I've ever had)

really? I can't post pics from Dropbox anymore? LAME!

so just for fun, I just tried to activate the phone with the supposed bad ESN....
the seller lied to me!
what a stupid lie to tell!
however, the volume buttons don't work right, if I press search, the volume goes all the way down and if I try to turn it back up it fights me...
that's FN weird.
I flashed eclipse 2.3 on it w/ the 2.3.5 418 OTA, and I'm not impressed with how it runs, at this point it would be easier to swap boards than to SBF to 2.3.4 and put CM7 on it, (CM7 is already on that naked board)

Get all the parts that work together from the two phones so that you have a good functioning phone. You can remap your hard keys. The download may have been bad. SBF all the way and start from scratch.

I straight up swapped the two boards + imei stickers, and now I have two perfectly functional phones (minus the cracked screen) the second was an asurion remanufactured phone and the ribbon going from the mainboard to the digitizer/hardbuttons was a little messed up
Eclipse 1.3rc2 was the best one of the eclipse varieties I ever ran on that phone. 2.3 is just slower than CM7, and I HDCP enabled HDMI is kinda useless for me. adapting my DVI laptop to HDMI is better for the signal testing work I do sometimes.
I'll keep 2.3 on this "spare parts" phone and use it for playing videos on HDMI equipped hotel TVs or a receiver for Wifi Walkie Talkie @ work and use a remote control app of some sort to basically just use it as a networked portable media player. (like a battery operated portable WDTV)

I am in a similar situation except that after the swap, I have no display. I have triple checked all of my connections. I didn't break any ribbon cables and I even tried putting the boards back into the phones they came out of. Any help at all would be appreciated

Hey guys, im thinking of getting a LG Optimus One(p500), is it worth the money? (170 euros over here), does it slow down, is the camera good, etc? or should i get something else?
It's generally decent for the price, there's plenty of roms in the development section for it, the camera is USELESS in the dark though. everything else works perfectly though.
However, there's a few issue you have to take note of.Even though it's froyo aka Android 2.2, because of the hardware, it does not support Adobe Flash Player. And there is a bug in this phone and that is when you touch the screen when playing games or doing anything else, the frames will drop and the phone will lag. It's a touch screen bug I believe.Just hope that Android 2.3 will take care of this problem.Take note of all those things.
Its a great device for the price I bought it in Germany for 242€ on Amazon.
It does have some software issues.
On the Hardware side the device is pretty good.
The Screen is a LCD screen compared to the OLED of the i5700 it doesnt have any pixel problems.
The camera is more then enough for making pictures except in the dark I think even an LED Light wouldn't make so much differences. And who is making pictures late at night? Outside even and LED light wouldnt make a difference.
On new year I will try to make some pictures with it. ^_^
The device does have enough RAM and besides the software-issues its a great device.
I'm sure LG will fix this for their most successful android smartphone.
And we will get Gingerbread...
My first post in here... well...
im using this phone since 2nd December ... i bought it at 205euros [device only, unbranded etc etc...] with car charger + windshield stand.
I previously had an iPhone 3G and sold it because i got bored with that... so actually that's my 1st android device.
For the ammount of money i've spent ... the accesories i got along + a bluetooth stereo that i use for music, i have to say that it's the best phone i've seen!
I've been searching the market after selling my iphone for a new one with android [2.2froyo from the box!] with a price around 200euros and that's the only one i found!
This phone is a bargain and for me the only disadvantage is the Screen lag when being touched [software problem, may be fixed on gingerbread] and the fact that it doesnt have v7 processor so it doesnt support flash [no big deal but... :/]

Prime Review

Never posted here and perhaps this post isn't necessary but felt compelled. I preordered from Amazon on 11/22 and was salivating for a month until the GPS issues started to be reported. The salivating turned to apprehension. On 1/3 I received the Prime and it is indeed gorgeous. Sadly I'm suffering the same problems as most. No need to beat a dead horse. The GPS issue I can stomach since I have a bluetooth Garmin that works fine with the Prime. However the poor GPS performance is extremely disappointing. Simply transferring files from my laptop to the Prime over wi-fi was much slower that transferring between other devices in my home. In fact so far I'd say it's unusable in that regard. I should add that I'm sitting less than 3 feet from my router when transferring.
Perhaps my expectations were too high but with the keyboard my plan was that this device would replace my laptop for all but the most rigorous tasks. That's not going to happen and now I'm not even sure I'm going to order the keyboard.
BTW BT is weak as well. If all of these issues are indeed due to the aluminum case it's just unbelievable to me that a company could screw up this bad. I'm hopeful that someone comes up with something even if it's just providing instruction on how/where to take a drill to the darn thing. But my expectations aren probably too high on this front too.
In short unless someone has disposable income I'd advise they steer clear and wait for a better offering. I'll likely keep mine until something better appears then I'll be putting it on Ebay.
That's not review, you are beating the dead horse....

Well I guess you're right. A mod can remove and my feelings won't get hurt.
I guess I just wanted to get my shots in on that horse.
ride the dead horse.
a drill won't fix it. you need to point the screen at the router.
the entire foundation of the tablet is built into the aluminum case. everything is screwed into it.
the antennas are on either side of the front-facing camera. want better reception, point the tablet screen in the direction of your router or BT tether
How to Bluetooth tether?
>How to Bluetooth tether?
Put phone in one can and tablet in the other (use bigger can for tablet)

[Q] Are any pins supposed to be recessed? Connector possibly damaged

Hi Guys,
I got the prime a couple days ago and noticed that there is a single pin that looks to be pushed back from the edge of the connector. Looking at the back of the tablet, it's the second pin from the right.
It's probably not making contact with the 40 pin cable... I have only plugged this tablet in a handful of times.
Pete

}
Here's the image of the connector...
I checked mine and as far as I can tell I dont have one pin down like that.
Do you have any problems charging or connecting to your pc?
The tablet charges and connects. I don't know what functionality the pin provides. It could just be a duplicate GND or PWR pin, which will reduce the reliability over time as I'm sure they've allocated pins for the maximum charging current. Over time the other pins will increase in contact resistance and start heating up above the designed limit.... It's one of a few issues I'm having, so it will be going back to the store. Thanks for checking the connector, I wasn't able to find a high quality picture to verify.
Pete
Yah fair enough, not worth taking a chance.
Good catch really. How did you even come to be looking at the connector so closely to begin with if you didn't have any connection problems. Lol I had to look pretty dang closely even knowing what to look for to check if mine was the same.
Electrical Engineering has given me the passion of electronics. I'm thorough in my 'first article inspections'.
Essentially I'm interested in the choices others make during design. I returned the tablet and will wait for similar product in the marketplace or a future batch of primes. Until then it's back to the laptop; CES2012 should provide some insight.
Good luck then! It definitely looks like you are going to have a lot of cool choices from all the talk from CES
Mine are all in a row, although in a slightly staggered/raised pattern, sort of like ---> .,.,.,.,
Went to plug mine in to charge tonight and nothing happened. I looked at the pins and they are all bent to hell. Can't connect at all now. Once or twice I will get it to plug in and the screen will turn on, but not charge.
Super pissed as I am traveling tomorrow and was psyched to have this with me.
As I write I am trying to straighten the pins with a safety pin. I touched something wrong as it vibrated and reboot.
GOD DAMN IT!
Any suggestions here?

Edit:
So toast. There are broken pins in there and everything. WTF? I just uploaded a bunch of music on there last night for the trip tomorrow. I come home to charge and...total crap.
It's too late for Best Buy to take it back, I think I will have to use my credit card protection (Amex) to return this. Even if I sent it in to Asus for repair under warranty, this happened in, what, 3 weeks of light use?
So disappointed.
any updates on what happened with your prime...it appears i'm in the same boat with the bent/broken connector pins...just got my RMA and scared after reading all the stories on here but looks like i have no other choice
I just noticed my connected is a little broken, half the plastic piece is missing. i don't know if it came like that or i broke it. i've been careful with it so who knows. only had it about 3 weeks. it still functions properly, charges/syncs/connects to dock. i'm aprehensive about sending it int o get fixed.

Xperia S as tablet

Hello.
I was thinking of buying a tablet, but since I bought the xperia s phone, I am thinking if it is possible to use the hdmi out of the phone to a larger, portable monitor and use it as a tablet.
Do you know where i could get a lightweight monitor with capabilities of hdmi in so I can hack it into a diy "tablet".
I am considering to use the display only for output i.e no touch screen, although that would be good.
So basically you're looking for a battery powered TV with HDMI input ? something like this
Well yes,but in not that price range
I am thinking of composing one with various components from tablets, but I don't know how a tablet or laptop monitor can be connected to an hdmi adaptor and work without the use of a motherboard or a graphics card.
I don't see the point of a larger display just to connect to your phone considering that it is possible to get a 9.7" IPS screen dual core android tablet for under US$250.. Check pandawill. Look for the Amlogic -MX chipset or the rockchip RK30XX series.
Heck, they even offer ICS to boot.
I dont think you will be able to find exactly what you are looking for, I but I have an idea for you to consider. The Morotola Atrix has a LapDock accessory. This is basically an 11" screen, a usb keyboard / mouse and a huge battery all rolled into one. Someone on the forum has taken the rear apart and it is basically just a micro USB and micro HDMI cable. He plugged his Xperia in and it just worked. Phone will not charge off the battery while the HDMI is enabled, but everything else is fine.
Now, these devices retail for about £300, but recently 2 retailers in the UK have been selling them for £42 and £48, probably because the Atrix is outdated now.
I very nearly took the plunge myself, but I already have a 14" laptop and an iPad

Something to consider.
BigPhil this is exactly what I was looking for.
Since I don't want to spent much money in buying a Windows tablet now, considering the windows 8 tablet release this year, the Morotola Atrix LapDock would do the job.
Do you have any links for the £42 and £48 UK shops?
Sure, but it looks like both offers have ended.

Worth checking that site periodically
Edit: I have just checked eBay and there are loads £40-£75 on there. Good a place as any to start, perhaps pick up a case at the same time.
Umm... this one ?

How well could you fit an S into the Lapdock? Any S users have one?(Pics pls).
At that price its well worth it.

[Q] Some easy RAZR Maxx questions

The wife & I are about to get out of our AT&T contract and switch over to VZ. We're upgrading from the HTC Aria (AT&T's first real Android phone) so pretty much any current phone is going to be a huge upgrade. The RAZR Maxx seems like the cat's meow, so that's the way we're leaning. I do have a couple of questions though..
How bad is the bloatware, and how hard is it to remove? I assume you have to root..
We despise Swype, but haven't found anything better. I thought I saw that it's comes pre-installed, but if not, can it be installed on the RAZR?
I assume that the RAZR uses the standard Micro USB cable, but will our HTC wall chargers work with the new phones?
This is it for now, but I'll browse the forums some more and maybe come up with some other questions..
I just switched to the maxx from evo 4g (sprint) a couple weeks ago. Hows the att coverage in ur area? If its anything like it is up here, I'd say you will be very happy with the switch.
Bloat... theres a fair amount of it, but... Not any worse than anything I've seen from any other carrier, and unless u actually use the apps, they just sit idle, and as far as I can tell, dont use any power, or consume resources/data. Yes, root is needed to remove/freeze.
I personally dont use swype, but it does come pre-installed.
I DO use my htc chargers to charge this device... I even use my htc micro hdmi cable for mirroring, both work flawlessly.
Aside from all that, its a pretty slick phone! Battery life absolutely destroys every other device I have tried, its fast, and smooth, and pretty rugged.
For keyboards I have Swiftkey 3 installed (Which is on sale in my region), totally worth the price.
With other phones I would have a charger at home, one in the car and another in the office. With the MAXX I only have to use one charger, the one at home.
That plain fact makes the phone the correct choice for me
With the ICS upgrade you can actually disable all of the bloat ware so it won't use any resources ever.
bloat is no problem. swiftkeys is a must (or other keyb app) . if the smart actions are set up we on a stock razr maxx the phone is perfect and will do every thing you want. the only mod I really care about is the wifi hotspot , data is data. so if you do not want to mod at all it is 29.99 a month for tethering
the phone is perfect
