Hi,
I dont think I ever posted here, but I'm mostly active on the CM forum, but I did not get any response on the problem I'm having now.
I used to have the Samsung Galaxy S i9000, with CM flashed on it.
I now got the Samsung Galaxy SIII, and I immediately rooted it. I then installed CM9, but my camera wouldn't work. It opens, waits for 2-3 seconds and then gives me the "can't connect to camera" error, and closes.
I then tried flashing some other roms like AOKP, Liquid, EnergyHD, ... even with 4.2.1 based Nexus200 rom, the camera won't work.
Appearantly I'm not the only one having this issue.I searched the forum and found to links:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37072484#post37072484
- When trying this method, I found the fw version of my camera:
Cam FW ver: ZHFJ02
Phone FW ver: ZHFJ02
- When I try to follow the instructions from the link above, I get stuck on the FW write step, because the button to do this is disabled. I also found that messing with this fw is not a good idea, cuz there's no way to undo this, also not with flashing another rom or doing a restore.
So then I found this link, and I contacted member Deviant Ollam for some help, big ups for his help
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36897862&postcount=3
So this is what I have done so far:
- chmod 777 on the /data folder, and I copied all the SlimISP files I could find, and also chmod 777 these files.
But still the camera would not work.
The only way the camera works is with the Stock ROM...
Anyone got an idea of what I'm doing wrong?
Are you trying to use the Samsung camera or the one that comes with CM?
Samsung cameras won't work on CM as they don't have the correct framework. Did you try the camera before flashing CM at all? Have you tried any other camera apps to see if they work?
tried flashing this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746611 ??
works fine for me and has additional features to the stock AOSP camera

Hi Mike,
So I first flashed to android 4.2.1 so that I could use the latest camera MOD. But no cigar. I even deleted the original Gallery.apk with Titanium, then I flashed the MOD, still the same result. Just don't understand why..

I just tried that ROM, also with the MOD you suggested. Still not working... very strange.
I think it has something to do with the FW version of the camera..
When dialing the *#34971539# number on a stock rom, it tells me my camera has the ZH* firmware.
I don't find much about this version on forums and google...

I'm having the same issue. I tried CM10, CM10.1 and AOKP. Eventually gave up and restored to stock.
Also, I realize this probably sounds dumb, but when I dial *#34971539# on my stock rom, I get the VZW recording saying the number cannot be dialed. What am I doing wrong?

Hi folks, I have a very serious problem.
The camera gives FC always put any rom, any kernel, any wipe to do.
I have CM9. Everything worked fine, even the camera.
But a couple of days gave me the camera FC (and any camera application).
I wipe, and continued to give FC. I put the last nightly with wipes, and FC. I put the siyah. And did not work. I thought it maybe it was something rare CM9. So I went back to put the officer with wipes. Wrong. I put the siyah to see if the kernel improves somewhat, and there is no way.
Someone has thought the same thing? or know how to fix it?
Thanks in advance

if somebody provides in CWM flashable ZIP format you have to flash it from CWM, if it is apk you have to install it...
but you have already flashed many ROMs with different camera apps, with no result???
have you tried what I suggested "Camera ICS" download it from play store.
Yes, I flash many roms, making wipes, CM9, ginger stock, stock ICS ... and does not fix the problem.
I've tried many camera apps (even with "Camera ICS" you name it), and this does not work.

I'm from Belarus and sorry for bad English
When I go to service (in my Country not official) then tell me about in my phone bad block's in flash memmory. But they flash him by JTag in 2.3.3 firmware. Camera work 2 days... After I'm installing many app's and trouble receive((((
Now I flash stock Firmware and my camera FC(((
Try flash 2.3 Gingerberd?
I always use AOKP roms on my devices and since I have the i9300 I start to get "Can't connect to the camera" occasionally when I open the camera app. I have to restart the device to use the camera (or the torch) again.
I suppose it was a rom related problem, but while upgrading from 4.1.2 to 4.2.1 (so new camera app) I saw the problem remain identical and I start investigate.
The problem is on the camera firmware, that is not placed on the filesystem, so it didn't changes between flashes.
EDIT: the problem is not completely solved, but is seems less frequent than before...
The only way to change it seems to flash a samsung stock rom (or a based one) and follow this steps:
dial *#34971539# in stock dialer
check your camera vendor using "Phone/CAM FW Ver Check" (the first two letter of "Cam FW Ver")
if you have a ZD* firmware download this file: View attachment ZDFF03.zip (thanks to GrayJack)
if you don't have a ZD* firmware you have to try yourself downloading from here or here (please report your results and I will update this post)
unzip the file SlimISP.bin in the root of your internal memory
dial *#34971539# again
upgrade yur camera fw using "Phone to CAM FW Write (Rear)"
restore your favorite rom
optional: press thanks/donate button :good:
Here's my tests on ZD camera + 4.2.1 AOKP
ZDFE02: frequent "Can't connect to the camera"
ZDFF03: good
ZDFI02: this is the most recent, but camera force closes
Hi,
i'm having the same issue, and I made a topic about it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37325700#post37325700
Any idea of what I'm doing wrong? I followed your instructions, but the FW write button stays disabled?
you have a ZH* firmware? which file you try to use?
the one attached in my post is for ZD* cameras and in the GrayJack/4PDA threads there is no trace of this vendor.
maybe there's a compatibilty check that keep the flash butto disabled and maybe you have a new hardware that didn't have an older firmware to flash?
It Works!
Heya, just wanted to let you know that this FW really fixed the camera issues on my S3.
I was running ZDFE02 and after updating to ZDFF03 all problems were gone.
Running CM10.1 now with Camera 4.2 and Photo Sphere.
Thank you for your great work!

hi there,
first a big thx for you @c3k for finding the time to investigate the issue for all the no SAMMY roms which the cam is most likely the only disadvantage over the SAMMY firmware !
i've flashed stock rom dialed the no. and got an earlier cam+phone firmware GDFE02 on both cam+phone FW, i've applied the update at the thread you linked to and now i'm running both phone and cam FW with: ZDFF03.
i've restored my jellybam nand but unfortunately the issue persists "as usual".
i tried to clear data and dalvik cache+fix the permissions and clear the gallery(aka camera app) data as well.
after rebooting i'm still getting the problem.
i guess it the fix doesn't work at every phone for some reason(i have the i9300 off course).
if anyone have any suggestions i'd love to hear
cheers
i try to dial *#34971539# in stock dialer but my GS3 return nothing.

I think samsung may have changed the S3 camera in lastest hw versions, and maybe it has no more an upgradable firmware.
If this is correct the only way is work on the aosp source to have a better comunication with this new hardware, but I don't know how hard it is, if is possible and how many i9300 camera vendor / version exists,,,
When and where you buy your device? (is it i9300, right?)

Can someone help to fix the camera on my galaxy s3?
Same problem here
I'm glad I'm not the only one having this problem.
This camera issue happens on every ROM I flash with the exception of the Stock ROMs.
I am now re-flashing my AOKP 4.2.1 ROM that I had running a little while ago. It seems the problem is with every ROM but the stock ones, which is a shame considering I'm not the biggest touchwiz fan and I love AOKP.
So does anyone know of any fix? the error only happens when I take a picture. I really dont know what to do. I am open to any suggestions.
Thanks, as always.

Hello Team,
I have been a silent follower of this website and have rooted my SGSII 6 months ago. Everything was working absolutely fine with no problems.
Very recently I upgraded my build to 4.2.2 JDQ39 with Kernel Version: 3.0.64-CM. My wireless is not working at all. I am not even able to turn on the wifi option.
I tried installing the below ROMs to check the functionality:
ThinkingBridge
Paranoid
Resurrection.
None of the above worked.
I'd request anyone in this thread to give me a workaround or a solution to fix this thing.
Thank you

Anyone in this forum has experienced this issue before me? Please advice.
Do a clean (format everything in CWM first, then use Odin) install of stock & see if the problem persists. Tho you've tried these other roms, you might have left something funky behind from one of them (just doing a wipe may not get rid of this) that has persisted.
If you have no problems with stock, try another install of the custom rom of your choice & see how you go.
Or maybe even try a completely different kernel before you do the stock thing. Try Siyah/Dorimanx maybe ?

Sorry for my bad English
1) Your English is better than a lot of native English speakers I know.
2) Hopper8's 'Odin troubleshooting' thread stickied in General has all the info you need to get a successful Odin flash. Find the thread, try as many of the troubleshooting steps as many times as you need to in order to get a successful flash.
However, don't try one or two things from the thread, come back here & say 'But I tried some of the stuff in the thread & it didn't work. That thread covers this issue from every possible angle, and it's often persistence that fixes these. There's no easy fix in this situation because we're not there looking over your shoulder seeing what you're doing/not doing, and there's nothing which isn't in the thread that can be suggested in this situation.
So...I've (and Hopper has) given you the tools to get your phone fixed, up to you to fix it now.
@nguyenducanh did you manage to fix this?
I have been speaking with the dev (ayysir) of ParanoidAndroid, 4.4beta1 for S2 had a bug with the kernel. The ROM wouldn't boot at all with the stock kernel, but would with any compatible custom kernel (Dorimanx, Gustavo, Apolo -correct versions of these).
The dev has uploaded a new build now which fixes the problem, so if you've managed to recover your phone the new build is safe to use (tested by me)
