XXLSJ Random Shutdown - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I have had XXLSJ installed for a while now, and this has been an ongoing problem. I was originally on CM10.1 (nightly) and then I performed a full wipe (wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache) and then installed the ROM (its a slim version of LegendK95's build, it is stock though - link in my sig for those interested).
So now I have the ROM installed and Siyah Kernel v6 b4 running on it, I had Philz Kernel beforehand and it had the same problem as Siyah has now, so it appears not to be a kernel issue? I can always tell when the phone is going to switch off as the network icon becomes a circle with a line through it, the screen flickers, and the phone turns off.
I can only restart the phone by holding down the power button for a good ten seconds. The phone boots up fine every time, but the battery is just dead, and then the phone turns off again. Only way to get the phone going again is by plugging it to charge (AC) and then it remains on. I can remove the charger after a couple of minutes and the phone will regain battery power on its own (I know this is to do with the fuel gauge chip which can be reset in ExTweaks).
I have tried changing my modem too (BVLP7) and my kernel as I mentioned, to no avail. I know some will say USE THE NEW XXLS8 ROM, but I don't really want to change as my phone is set up to my liking. Tried searching and found nothing. Any suggestions?

Try dorimanx v7.44.I use that combo and not had any problems at all.
If its not that then maybe battery.

Thanks very much for the reply,
I'll give it a go and report back tomorrow (probably won't occur with my luck).

The ls6 modem with lsj works great here.Have you still got warranty in case its usb port or mb.

Nope, warranty gone a good while ago. If this kernel has no effect, I'll order a new battery and give it a go. By the way, there is no funny under clocking/over clocking going on to make the CPU shut down, it just turns off, battery is dead, plug into wall, charges a little bit, and then the battery regains power by its self. Its annoying because I have to carry a charger around with me and I can't always get at a socket.

LSJ was horrible go for a slimmed down official jb, check militant rom out, if you want to flash a rom with zero problems, simple, very good on battery and fast, that is the one, also you might need a new battery, charge 100percent clean battery stats and gauge might help.

Wiped battery stats at 100% charge and reset gauge already. If this problem persists, I guess I'll have to try a new ROM, because there was no problem on any other ROM.

Alright, I tried Dorimanx kernel v7.44 and no luck, exactly the same problem. So I have done a complete wipe (including format /system) and installed NeatROM 4.2 based on LS8. Hope this gives me no bother or I'll go mad, I'll buy a new battery if it messes up again.

Well it turned out to be the battery. Bought a 2000maH battery and all is great.

[Q] updated to ics and now fone has sod and heats up

I have tried searching this problem but found no solutions. I have a non rooted phone and no warranty so can get any thing replaced unless I know the specific fault.
I got a message from Samsung wireless kies to update to ics 4.0 so did so. Their phone installed the software perfectly with no faults that I could see. However I the battery drain was off the scale. I switched the phone off and charged it. After a full charge I left the phone switched off and the charger out the phone. The battery is contentiously draining and after a few hours i will be dead. So the phone is completely off but draining battery (I have switched it off properly).
Now also I get Sleep Of Death on my phone and the phone is so hot its ridiculous. Someone please help me as its my pride and joy and I have done a security wipe and still not helped.

What firmware version do you have?
Check in settings menu => phone info => version, and dial *#1234* into your phone.
PDA = ROM (and kernel) version is most important.
Maybe you have to flash another ICS ROM version.
Here you can find official firmware versions (non-wipe) => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
You wrote that you have already done a "security wipe".
What do you exactly meant be that?
Have you done a factory reset (wipe data) in recovery mode?
I would recommend to wipe cache partition in recovery mode (press Volume UP + Home + Power button until recovery menu appears).
If the battery drain is still remaining, install Better Battery Stats app (=> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809) to find apps, which prevent your phone from going into deep sleep.
Here is a good thread with some nice battery saving tips => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16973603
Good luck !
1: Factory reset using the code
2: flash different modem using Odin.
3: flash some other stock ics using Odin
4: flash your GB again using Odin and let it update again and hope it won't happen again.

Same problem to me, a factory reset (which means wiping all your data and settings) will gives you better battery life.
In regards to the questions I have
PDA:19100XWLP7
PHONE:19100xxlps
the firmware was is on 4.0.3
build number IM74k.XWLP7
I will try to flash the phone using the sammobile website. However Iam having issues with odin as it wont come up with id com just static will fix that first then give it a crack.
P.s I have done a factory reset and still no luck.

[Q] Phone dead after turn off

Hi guys, :fingers-crossed:
Ok, Here the situation.
My friend just got his S2 i9100. After around 5-6 hours phone in idle mode, he decided to change sim card. So he turn off phone, change sim card and turn on back but phone not turn on. It’s completely DEAD. Yea, can't access to download mode or cwm, just a black screen. The phone cannot be in charge when the cable is connected. Tried many way likes unplug the battery, do a soft reset, hard reset and many others but phone did not give any reaction. Just I said before, it completely dead.
So we decided to send it to the shop. They said, there a problem with the IC inside the phone.

His S2 is running Rootbox rom with Dori kernel. Before this he also had flashed RR rom, Omega rom, siyah kernel. The phone comes with firmware 4.0.3. He never flash firmware 4.0.4.
So here, i want to ask, is this kind of problem occur because of flashing rom and kernel? Or it’s totally because of bad hardware?
Thanks
It is a hardware issue, flashing may effect the screen but it should not affect the charging. the phone should charge wether it is on or off.

[Q] problem battery gets down by 20% after reboot

i am suffering from a strange problme...dunno whether its rom or kernel related
i am on odexed xxlsj using philz kernel
whenever i reboot my phone after flashing something from cwm, by battery percentage goes down by about 20%
it happens only once in one charge cycle
if my charge was at 54% before flashing the file, after rebooting it goes down to about 30-35%
y is this happening???any help pl
tried to search, but couldnt get satisfactory answer
also ENTROPY,elite recognized dev , said that resetting battery stats is useless in our beloved s2 i9100
Thats a common issue.
If your rom support Siyah kernal ( most probably it will) then flash it & install extweak from Play store.
And then reset Battery Chip and put your phone to sleep it will go back to normal.
Btw don't worry that 20% will give you same time uptime as 54%

Maybe try to charge to 100%, then turn of your phone, remove your battery for about a minute and then boot again. It's supposed to work Let me know

He's on LSJ, so Siyah doesn't work
Sent from the Matrix
That is normal, when you flash something, the battery will go down about that.
Once developers are able to do some battery tweaks, it will be less but for now, you will need to live with a 20 % battery reduction when flashing something.

strange behavior after removin battery on LS8 and LSD Roms

I noticed that after removin battery while phone is on, on LS8 and LSD Roms.. the phone doesn't boot anymore unless you do a full data wipe !!! I could reproduce it on different custom Roms... didn't test stock yet.. Any comments ??
I did face this issue once. Since then i have not tested it again.
I also got that, when i removed my battery it doesnt boot anymore. Sometimes it crash when its on and reboot automatically. All i can see after reboot is black screen past the Samsung i9100 and the traingle.
(sorry for bad english)
First, here is android development forum, not discussion
Second, there are several threads in general which discuss about bootloop problem on xxls8 and xxlsd
You are right.. didn't see that thread on general section.. Please close it ...
Today I had same problem: remove battery without shutdown first = bootloop on XXLSD neatrom lite 14.1.
FIX
- Reboot recovery
- Wipe Cache
- Wipe Dalvik Cache
- Reboot

We take the battery off just to check if we still got the bug and we get stuck in the boot. Why?
Because it can happen in a lot of different situations that you cannot control and i can just tell you a few... Phone drops and battery jumps, battery gets drain forcing the phone to shut down without having time for a proper shuting down, freeze by any aplication or anormal situation that can only be solved be removing battery, the need of switching batteries in case you have 2 or more( some ppl got this boot hang by changing batt even when phone is shut down), etc, etc....
BTW fatjoez afterall ur procedure solved my issue, it just took more time than normal to boot, but i wasnt stuck afterall
Thank you very much! I could not reproduce the boot hang issue anymore after do what you said...

Heard about bootloops but thought nuke script sorted it out.
Now, I don't wanna know If my device will bootloop....when it does I'd know how to fix it.

fix
when you get a bootloop hold power button until the phone restarts and you will solve the problem without doing anything

[Q] Hardcore battery problems (Complicated)

I have the same problem like month ago (Last time i solved it by new battery and everything was ok.)
I CAN'T CHARGE MY BATTERY.
My steps now:
1. I bought new loader and loader seems not to be problem
2. I have fully formated system, cache and everything that was in CWM possible to format and wiped all caches, battery stats etc and then I flashed stock ROM.
NOW:
I'm charging it with loader and i have all time 0%-5%.
I inserted for fun my old damaged (probably, but who knows where the hell is problem?) and it was 95% (LOL?) but after restart it died.
Where the hell is the problem?
With battery?
With micro-usb port?
With other hardware?
Maybe it's something wrong with system but I'm total newbie, tell me all steps how to check is everything there ok.
How to PRECISELY DIAGNOSE what the hell is going on?
Try hawkerpaul's nuke : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100558
If there is a problem with the port, you can search youtube to clean it ( i don't think so tho)
Are you using the stock rom? If not, flash the stock rom with odin, try ICS rom too, there is no way we can check what is wrong, you have to try everything :/
Good advice from @Dakura except that you should stay away from Odin until you've ruled out any possibility of a faulty USB port. If you attempt a flash with a faulty port, you could end up with some really serious issues. If you want to replace the board (it costs less than a replacement genuine battery) read my guide........
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335961
it should be of some help to you......
Edit.....if you choose the ICS stock firmware, stay away from 4.0.4......search emmc brickbug if you want to know why......
sent from either my Alliance powered S2 or my ArcoCM powered W via XDA Developers App
I put on my phone different baterries and it always shows different percentage. Cleaned micro-usb port and nothing changed.
@edit: i went to service and they have montage new micro-usb module, we will see what will happen
