[Q] [Help] Next Launcher installing issue on custom ROM - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys!
I have a problem installing Next Launcher to my custom rom...
This is what i made: replaced (deleted my old launcher) my default launcher from /system/app folder with the downloaded Next Launcher.apk.
As i know it should automaticly install this launcher, but after i complete all the gmail sign in process stuffs and it should load the homescreen, i got a pop-up error in my status bar: "Unexpected error" and the screen remains black and the launcher didnt load
Any idea what i made wrong?
Thx in advance!

I`ve got the same problem, somebody please help.

I just figured out that u need to copy the .so files from the launchers apk (inside the apk there is folder lib\ameabi and there is 3 .so files) to the Rom's folder system\lib\ . Thats it Enjoy!

Thanks a lot, that worked.

I am using Android Marshmallow v6.0.1 x86-based CPU, with stock ROM.
I tried to follow your suggestion, but still error.
I took those 4, not 3, *.so files from x86 folder and paste them to system/lib folder, do reboot.
But still found the "Unexpected Error" notification.

Just copy the new fonts to the /system/fonts/ folder and replace the old.
If your talking about a ROM zip file then just open the zip with 7zip or something like that and drag and drop the new fonts to the above mentioned folder

this drag and open doesnt work , cauz when i install the rom it will stop in google logo , i tried with two different ROM.
thanks
If dragging and dropping doesn't work, what you'll need to do is unpackage each archive folder until it's a regular folder, then try dragging and dropping then repackage them. Make sure that you use the same archive folders so that it'll be readible by android.
*If this doesn't solve the problem, your problem might lie elsewhere. Try a different kernal, a different radio, a different module and keep trying until it loads ok. Good luck
its mean i have to extract each folder ??
thanks.
The uot (onlinekitchen) would be the easiest method. Just go to fonts, select one of the many choices., upload framework file for the rom you're using and flash via cwm. Very simple.

i Have an XPERIA X10,but i don't know how to program for this platform.

Thanks man,but i dont do it at all...
the files are in here. Ok,
Here are the widgets(attached) with what you have done so far (BT,brightness)
You can theme the apk easily by opening it as an archive in winrar but DO NOT EXTRACT, just open the apk like a folder, drag in the new images to the right place, then close the apk and click "yes" to save the changes...

I try,X10ModTool,no sucess...
It won't install normally, you have to push to system/app, fix permissions, and reboot.
I'll make an Xrecovery zip in a few hours when I get back to my computer.
Ok, try this zip in xrecovery(attached)
Also, you can finish theming the apk how I explained, then open the xrec. zip I posted with winrar/7-zip and drop in the themed apk to replace the old one (the same way the images are done) and then flash away!
Once you are completely finished modding the apk you should zipalign it for best performance before adding it to the zip (or post it here & I'll do it...)
Cheers.
Thank you very much (Niko Bellic voice when exiting from taxi)

[Q]

So, i have some sgs2 stock apk files, how can i install them to my custom ROM sgs2 ? if i try to install them it says "X App not installed" (sorry for bad translations)
and some say "You have allready installed same named package, which signature is in conflict with this package"
Try to rename tha apk in apk.bak and paste the new one by root explorer or similar giving sama permission
use thanks button!!
Is it an AOSP custom ROM? If it is, the frameworks are incompatible and you will never succeed.

Try this:
First you obviously need root.
1. Using any file explorer (e.g. Root Explorer, Astro, or ES File Manager) copy the apk files to /system/app directory
2. Mount the directory (Look for "Mount R/W") so that the files can be modified.
3. Change the Permission of the apk files (usually done by press-holding the file and selecting the appropriate menu selection) to rw-r--r--
4. Reboot the device
This should automatically install the apk files at the next boot.
It wont let me copy those apk's to system/app folder. and i didnt find mount r/w from any explorer. my rom is Omega's ics 4.0.4
srry for repost but i found mount r/w and i managed to copy apk's to system/app folder, now just rebooting and i will see if that works
E: It didnt install those apk's, i did just like u said :s

that's not good.
I've used this method to install stock swype and taskmanager apks to cm9 and it worked for me.
Did you update the permissions?
If you have, sorry, I can't help you further. I've read somewhere about "deodex" that may have got to do with it, which i'm not quite sure about.
I've also noticed that apks that are specifically designed for TW don't work on other ROMs.
good luck

What apps? Most samsung apps won't work on custom roms. Eg allshare, Kies..
Sent from my GT-P7510 using xda premium
Stock musicplayer, clock and stock keyboard. My problem isnt that they wont work, it wont even install them. And i changed the permissions... :s
I think they are all tw apps, they are not gonna even install.
So is there any way to install those apps ? :s

Sorry no. That'd be like trying to install Mac software on Windows. Not gonna work. Touchwiz apps cannot be installed on an AOSP ROM.

Working Google NOW(ICS)

This is not my work..i found it on another site
-Download the .Zip archive wich contains the needed files from
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ej2nryn3pilemvx/Google%20NOW%20package.zip
-Extract it to your pc
-Use Root Explorer or something similar
-Copy the three folders from extracted archive on your sd card
-Copy Velvet.apk from the "app" folder to system/app and set the permissions to rw-r--r--
-Copy the lib files from the "lib" folder and paste them to system/lib(set the permissions to every file to rw-r--r--)
-Copy and paste usr/srec from the Google Now Package to system/usr/srec and set the permissions to rw-r--r-- for every file in every folder!
-Reboot and it should work
This it will also change the Google search bar to the Jelly Bean look
Works great... But i had to reaname the "Valvet.apk" to: "GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk"
(before I renamed the already existing "GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk" in system/app to "GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk.bak")
Hey there... For some reason i cant changer the permission of the folder to rw-r--r--.
Each time i change the folder's permission to that all the files in that particular folder is missing...

You don't need to rename the Valvet.apk, just rename GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk to ...bak or remove it

Just installed on my Xperia Tablet S, works well but at the top left on the homescreen where you have the Google Search and Mic icons, now has two Google Search icons. Also fixed in portrait mode, grr.
I'm a month late, but I made a flashable .zip :good:
Working on my Xperia pro :good:
Remember that any modification is your own responsibility

THIS NEEDS UP TO 4O MB ON SYSTEM/APP (among other system folders)
I tried the flashable zip but it get an installation aborted on every attempt to install it.
Could it be my recovery? I'm on ics stock kernel.

Mm...I feel manual mode is bit too much time consuming as there are too many files to set permission and afraid of missing something there!
Thanks
Can someone make a flash-able zip please? :fingers-crossed:
Works perfectly on my U

How well does this work?

Force closes in system after updating one file in framework-res

Hi
I have this problem with my friends galaxy ace GT-S5839i:
I need someone to help me here because I don't know what to do
I pulled the file framework-res.apk from system and then changed the extension to zip, and changed an image inside one of the folders.
After that I zipped the pack again (tried several zip options) and changed the extension back to apk
My first question: Is this ok?
I copied the changed file to sdcard and using es explorer moved the file to system/framework. Imediately After answering if I wanted to overwrite the phone freezes and never booted again.
I restored the rom and tried several times with same result
I tought the problem would be trying to overwrite a file that's in use but then I found a tool the decompiled the original apk, changed the image, compiled and signed it and made a flashable zip of it.
It gsve always error in trying to flash this on recovery so I extrated the compiled and signed new framwork apk and moved it to system with es explorer... The difference now is that it didn't froze the phone but started to show fc's everywhere. Rebooted, wipede cash and dalvik, messed up woth permissions... Everything I could think of and the result os always tbe same...
Please can amyone share a light here?
Thanks

Ok
I'm gonna look into it, thanks
Edit: Nothing I found there worked...
The only solution was install a different rom (previously had a stock rooted 2.3.6) v4.1
Changed the framework file from the rom and flashed it...
Its working now but still don't know why the previous actions didn't work
Thanks
