[Q] - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone...
Today i saw galaxy s3 replica. It was almost 99% same as the real. It was android. The thing is only the play store was in chinese but i downloaded aptoide on that and installed many android apps which worked without any problem. I installed go launcher zedge application whatsapp viber skype everything worked fine and the price of that phone was $150 only. Even when i inserted my sim into that my GSM network sent me the setting of GPRS & MMS of Samsung Galaxy S3. In about phone it was written galaxy s3. Android 4. something...
I just want to ask one thing that can we install Samsung Stock Firmware on that ? So we can get rid off chinese play store? And some other chinese apps which are unable to delete. So it become like real s3 ?

I have a few questions about this:
1. Where did you see this?
2. Did it say anything about specs? It could have a terrible processor and such.

No you can't flash a Sammy firmware to that.
They have different hardware (I'm not talking about the looks).
And you could try installing the play store apk. ( might not work, you should try pushing it into system/app if that doesn't work, needs root to do this )
You will need to Root 1st to remove all the bloatware from the phone. ( don't ask me how to root, search around, try any universal rooting methods which might work and don't hold me responsible for whatever happens to your phone)
i suggest that you don't buy these Chinese phones, they might look attractive, but deep inside, they might have put all crap and non working stuff.
No support from either the manufacturer or devs here. Nobody to hear you when you're in trouble!
LIFE! IT'S WHAT YOU MAKE OUT OF IT!

nice suggestion

Look at your screen, it'll definitely be the same size as an S3, but with a much lower resolution. Chinese devices, both phones and tablets usually have a max resolution of 800x480, compared to Galaxy S3's 1280x720. Compare your phone to a real S3, you'll see the huge clarity difference. Also 512 MB RAM instead of 2GB and a dual core processor instead of quad core. I'd say you got a bad deal. You can get branded, good quality Android phones with better specs for a little more price. Like the person above said, don't buy Chinese devices. They're ultimate crap.

sd card for transfer only....

Wow, now I remember why I dont buy sony products. Whoever decided to make the sd card slot usless should get a tab up side the head.
Sd card: useless compared to non crippled slots
Micro usb? really? thats the best you could cram into a tablet this size... fail
No hdmi? major fail
The charger is the worst piece of crap I have ever seen
Bravo sony, you wanted to create a tablet that you had to cut by 100$ and a tablet that is crippled and missing its leggs.
Even some 7inch tabs have hdmi, full size usb and a charger that doesnt sound like metal teeth being snapped.
As for power and gpu, my samsung galaxy NOTE gt-N7000 runs circles around this failure.
If you love it, good for you, I require more.
Rant over
First of all, of course you galaxy note runs circles around it. It's clocked at 1.4ghz vs the sony s's 1ghz. Not really sure what your basis for the claims of the GPU performance are.. they should be fairly similar though, so if the Galaxy Note does indeed outperform it then your right that it's pretty crappy of Sony.
I agree with you for most of the other parts though. Can't really justify the need for downsizing the USB port when it's such a large case up there. Hell they could have fit two there! HDMI would have been great, but there are plenty that don't have it on the market, at least this one offers DLNA. I don't have a problem with the charger.. seems to me that it would be much, much more durable than the micro USB's android phones ahve been strapping.
Plus some people pay hundreds for a universal remote, and this has one with great form and function. Like anything it has it's pro's and cons.
The two things that stung me about it that got me after purchase is the SDcard storage thingo, and lack of support from gameloft :\.
But hey, could be worse and just not have an SD card slot like some do. Now that is a fail.

The gpu plays as big a roll as the cpu in terms of render. I had a 154$ tablet that used an all winner cortex9 with a mali-400 gpu and it destroys the sony tablet. Of course at 154$ it had a ****ty 7inch screen. After my iphone 4 and 4s, i cant go back to hiddeous pixel screens. I found the perfect middle ground in my Samsung Note. It has the muscle to back up its amazing screen.
BTW, that cheap tablet with the amazing cpu/gpu had hdmi, usb and a micro sdhc slot. Its the now gone Ainol Novo 7 Advanced (not the the basic model).
I must say, the sony tablet screen look terrible compared to my Note but if i hold it far enough away, the pixels dont jump out at me as much.
Mind you its apples to oranges because the Note's display is an ips super amoled with an almost retina ppi.
I called sony today to pass on my thoughts. They sound ignorant. Their sales reflect that. Maybe if they drop it another 100$ people will stop returning it when the insert their sd card and haul the charger out of the box with a tractor.

Bitterness ages a face ;-)
Oh, and try to download a movie on your sony tablet directly to you sd card.... oh right, crippled
Regarding the "crippled" SD Card slot, as far as I can tell its only crippled with Sony apps. If you use any standard Android app the SD card slot is fully usable and accessible. I've got a 32 gig sd card in there and have no problem playing videos/music/open files directly off it. No speed issues or anything. I never transfer anything...

Nowhere did I refer to playback. Try to download natively to your sd card with your tablet. Crippled. Playback is useless if you cant get the media on the card in the first place. Maybe run out and buy a real tablet to do the muscle work and use the sony for the pansy playback?
Did Sony kill your parents? Good Lord, let it go. You don't like the Tablet S, but a lot of us do. Who cares? Don't buy it! I like PS3 controller compatibility and universal remote features. They build different tablets for a reason, just like how they make different phones, different TVs, furniture, cars, ice cream flavors, etc...
You can use dolphin browser ( and many other browser ) to download file into sd card directly.

Sell your sony and use your samsung if is better than a workstation.
Sony s runs android, so " Sony s will only download to its own memory " is a meaningless phrase.

Anything I say will be meaningless to you for the simple fact that you are limited to your own opinion. I however dont get frustrated when other people are not acting as my clone.
"Sony s runs android"?? do you think my more capable Note runs windows 7??Obviously they both use android.
On most tablets and my Note, "I" decide where my downloads go ie to the units memory or to the memory card I have installed. Sony s makes that choice for you. Its not my opinion, its a fact. Kinda runs in the face of what android lovers seem to hold so dear... "freedom".
I may sell my crippled tablet for a capable one, or just give it to my 5 year old nephew to play with.
I will pick up a galaxy tab, as far as I can see, looks better.
Dont hate on people, life is too short ;-)
lifes too short to go moaning on a forum about a problem thats arguable negligible to most usage scenarios, then writing snarky 'witticisms'.
your really need more hobbies if you're resorting to torrenting on tablets and complaining about not being able to do so on one model.... (who the heck does that?!!).

you are crazy boy.
He's only making points that have been made time and time again by most of you, just he's not willing to just accept it and be happy with the tab. No real reason for everyone to start flaming
It's very true that sony has imposed too much of there own influence. Not only that, but made it so there is currently no possible way to root it and make the changes we want done.

Thanks for being helpful. I knew i wasnt the only person to ever complain here about the sd problem. I wasnt harping on it, simply replying to people who took the time to talk with me about it.
I too look forward to a root and i hope that the sd problem is software not hardeware and that sony might wake up to at least match 150$ tablets in that regard.
Im not a fan of honeycomb so ics would be nice. Cheers

My 3rd party apps that download video or music content are restricted to the 16GB internal. There is zero way to make anything go to the sd card because the tablet treats the sd card as if it wasnt even there. The only thing the tablet can do is transfer files to and from the sd card.. Period.
As for dolphin, what would you download with that?
On a side note.. you can download with atorrent and specify the the destination can't you? The only problem I had with it was wifi going into sleep mode.. so I was pretty dissapoinnted to wake up and find it only downloaded 1.2%. lol.
Basically I knew what I was buying hardware wise when I bought it - aside from the creaks I discovered later. Then was massively let down software wise due to the restrictions.
I feel asthough if we got it rooted, we could just rename sdcard1 to sdcar2, and vice versa. Hopefully such a switcharoo would work and then it would continue on as it has, but with much more memory there .
It's going to be a real shame if Sony's take on ICS leaves us in the same boat, can't be rooted, can't be downgraded, and then someone discovers a root for HC

[Q] Alcatel One Touch 997D vs Galaxy S duos

Hi all,
I like to have some of you guy's opinion bout wich phone to buy. I do this work where i constantly need 2 phone's, and have a high need of fast GPS connection.
At the moment i'm using 2phones, one is an old school nokia for my work, the other one is my main phone, Galaxy S i9000.
I fixed the i9000 with a hardwaremod so i have superfast gpslock (bad connection back cover)
So now you know what my priority's are, i like to know what Cellphone you guys choose of the two:
Galaxy S duos (Price in my cellphone shop 300euros)
- 1 GHz Cortex-A5 processor
- resolution: 480 x 800 pixels (4.0inch) 230ppi
- ics pre installed, upgradable to Jellybean
- 4 GB storage, 768 MB RAM
- Camera 5 MP, 2592х1944 pixels with flash
- 1500 mAh accu
--> easy rooting, i know samsungs interface and love the fastness of the gps.
Alcatel 997D: (price in me cellphoneshop 220euros)
- 1 GHz Dual-Core Cortex-A9 CPU
- resolution: 480 x 800 pixels (4.3inch) 217ppi
- ICS installed
- 4 GB storage, 1GB RAM
- Camera 8 MP 3264 x 2448 pixels with flash
- 1800 mAh accu
--> no root know yet cuz this is a brand new phone, dunno bout gps speed etc.
My max is 300euros for this phone, so i would like to have some opinions from other people, cuz i'm a bit of a samsung fan
i love to play with my phone, so rooting is prefered, but i dunno if the dualcore rapes the samsungs single core
kind regards,
Robin

I have the 997D and I'm very satisfied. It has much better specs than the Galaxy S duoS and it is also cheaper. Go with the alcatel.
I had the same doubt and I've finally gone for the Alcatel, but I can still understand people who would choose Samsung Galaxy S Duos instead. Let's take a look at the pros and cons of each one:
Alcatel OT 997 D:
Pros:
Dual core processor
1 Gb RAM
Cheaper (around 100 euros cheaper than Galaxy S Duos)
Splash proof coating (called P2i)
Cons:
Low resolution for such a big screen, Although, as in Galaxy Nexus, since it has onscreen buttons for home, back and menu on the bottom, resolution is a bit less than the stated 480x800
Worse camera and led flash, although not bad at all
Samsung Galaxy S Duos:
Pros:
Awesome screen quality
Samsung has already included this phone in the list of phones which will get an upgrade to Android 4.1
Awesome camera and led flash
Cons:
Very expensive, too much in my opinion, given the specs
Single core processor
Just 768 Mb RAM
It's really up to you, but well, I don't have to tell you I'd go for the Alcatel, since I have already done so.

Well i bought the 997D to, and i'm very happy with it, i came from a i9000 galaxy S, and seriously, why is samsung so slow at starting up???
now i'm looking for a way to root this thing any topics about it yet?

Mine is waiting at the Post Office at the moment (I live in Spain and it came from Germany) so I guess I'll be able to get it today or tomorrow. I'll try to root it right away, and I'll post to report if I can get something from it.
I haven't been able to root the phone yet. It looks like it's rootable if you keep the stock firmware it comes with, but if you install the latest firmware via OTA update (as I did) there's still no known method to root it.
I tried SuperOneClick, Unlockroot 3.0 (recently updated) and "Root with_Restore by Bin4ry v15.7" (which can be found here at xda) and none of them worked. I guess we'll have to wait. If we had a working Clockworkmod recovery, maybe we could use Chainfire's SuperSU zip, which I succesfully used in the past on other phones. I tried signing it, and then tried to flash it using the stock recovery, but there's no way to do such a thing, since the signature verification always fails.
Another good reason to buy Alcatel OT-997D and not Samsung Galaxy S Duos: the battery.
On the Alcatel, battery can last up to 2 days of my normal use (1hr. talking, around 2 hrs of music and 1 hr. of playing every day), and, according to people I know who have purchased the Samsung, on that one, battery lasts a little longer that 24 hrs. with a similar usage pattern.
Is 997D able to move apps to SD Card
Just purchased a Galaxy S duos with ICS, and finding it has some severe SDCard memory limitations. Had seen some people complaining about this on Forums and GSM Arena, but didn't realise how serious the limitation was until experiencing it myself:
1. 4G internal SD specified, only 2G available
2. Mass storage mode not available, only MTP and PTP. I see from the 997D Q&A that it may still have this feature.
3. Unable to move apps (and therefore associated data) to SD Card without rooting.
4. The pre-installed Navigon maps stores maps on internal SD card, which will preclude use in US or Europe where maps are much larger than my home country Australia.
5. Only apps that appear to use external SD card are inbuilt music and camera. Presumably many larger apps or games will not be useable on this phone. Sony music unlimited will not offline sync with the external SD card, have read that spotify won't either.
6. Seems to be a general issue with latest Samsung phones, but at least the likes of S3 and Note 2 have minimum 16GB of memory to play with, 2GB is just not enough.
7. As an aside, I'm also wondering if the 997D supports DLNA out of the box ?
Wondering if the 997D has the same memory limitiations ? Thinking of returning the galaxy s duos and trying to source a 997D (not easy from Australia).
I'm generally happy with the galaxy s duos, performance is as expected, size, screen and dual sim function are good. However, getting somewhat concerned that I will run out of SDCard storage very quickly with these limitations. Already consumed more than half just by installing basic applications I need for my job.
Looks to me like Samsung should not be selling these ICS+ android phones with anything less than 8GB of available internal memory if they're not able to install apps onto the external SD Card.

The 4GB you talk of also include internal storage, so you'll never get the full 4GB for user data, and the same applies to 997D and almost any other Android phones. Galaxy Note II doesn't let you use the full 16GB, either.
And now, the other questions:
997D has mass storage, MTP and PTP modes.
Apps are moveable to the sd card, regardless of the root status
The external sdcard is directly mounted under /sdcard, so no problem with GPS navigation software or any other apps.
I think 997D does support DLNA, but I can't be sure, since I haven't tested it myself.

Thanks for the information. While I realise a lot of cheaper android phones have restricted internal SD card space, now that Samsung or Google (and assume other vendors will follow suit) are restricting ability to run apps from the external SD Card with ICS and above, 4GB (less whatever the system takes up) is no longer enough for even the most basic android phones. Shouldn't have to root the phone just to load a few apps, maps or synchronise some music offline from a streaming service.
If available, 997D is looking like a much better choice at this point than the Samsung S Duos.
Hello guys !
After searching the online shops for a new android phone i found this dual sim Alcatel, really nice hardware for this kind of money , unbeatable i´ll say ..
I have some questions for you about this phone because i never used a dual sim phone before .
So , can you tell me if the dual sim thing affects the batery usage more than a non dual ?
Another question is about the ´´onscreen buttons for home´´ .. how is it compared to the ´´standard´´ hardware/touch sensitive buttons ? i´m wondering about touching them by mistake when you´re using the phone on browsing/gaming etc .
Thank you in advance .
Of course, having two sims takes more battery power than only one, but I can confirm, since I've been using this phone for a month now, that battery life in the 997D is more than adequate. I'm using the two sims everyday, and with moderate use (2 hrs. of music playback, some 3G browsing and about 1 hr. talk time everyday) mine lasts for almost two days.
Anyway, are you gonna use one or two sims? If you just use one, it doesn't matter how many slots the phone has, since it will only be operating one sim.
By the way, my usage also includes having the mobile data on 2G most of the time, since things like whatsapp don't need much bandwidth to work. When I really need the speed to browse the web or get an app from google play, I switch to 2G and then back to 3G when I'm done.
Yes, you can press the onscreen buttons by mistake, but that happens rarely. And they are as good and sensitive as the screen, and the screen on 997D is very good.

I don't think e-compass have that much issues. If you're talking about erratic orientation to the north, most phones and especially tablets get this prob due largely to the magnetic covered cases on their devices, just like the protective case I have with my Galaxy tab, doing away with my magnetic case when navigating solves it. You can also fix its orientation by getting a compass app with orientation calibrating features.

LED notification ?
BTW I had the exact same problem as the OP.
I already have a Samsung Galaxy S3 I9305 with 2 GB ram and now in the end I bought the Alcatel for my GF since she wanted dual sim. I don't regret at all, I can assure you it's a great phone!
The screen is of course not as good as the Samsung flagship phone, but it's very decent. If I had to choose again between the Samsung Galaxy S Duos and the Alcatel, I would not hesitate a second! (And I'm more used to Samsung for everything: phone, tv, microwave etc)
The Samsung Galaxy S Duos is a rip off and a huge mistake IMHO (Too expensive, not enough ram and only single core). The Alcatel clearly wins compared to the Samsung. It boots very fast too (even faster than my S3). The battery is fine too for a smartphone and will of course always depend on what you do with it.
Furthermore the Android version running on it works very well and fluid overall. The stock contact/call apps seem to work faster than on the S3 and have all needed features (On the S3 sometimes there is a slight hesitation to open them). Crazy if you think about it. The Samsung own added software isn't that great actually if you look at the performance (feature wise it's fine of course).
I'm really a fan of Samsung in general, believe me! But the S DUOS is not what it should be at all!
EDIT: Now I think of it, there is one advantage of the S DUOS: the physical buttons. The virtual buttons make the usable screen a bit smaller unfortunately My S3 is clearly better in terms of available space on the screen.
But this is a non issue for this class of phone and I suppose on the S DUOS the screen size would disappoint a little as well when I compare it to my S3. Using the buttons however is not a problem in my experience, it's only the screen space that it takes away that "bothers" me.

compass is fixed on latest vBF4-0 rom version.
Opinion after two months of use:
-smooth operation
-very good job dualsim
-very good job GPS;
almost all tested navigation
-battery with an average load can withstand two days
-seems immune to injuries
I hope the updates to JB 4.1
Value for money and work performance seems very beneficial.
This is my next dualsim, and I definitely recommend it.
I very eagerly await the next dualsim Alcatel Idol X

[Q] CDS CD1000 - MTK6577 phone 1280x720px 1GB Root/Play Store

Hello everyone,
I have received my CDS CD1000 phone. Looks and works great but sadly I noticed that it does not come with the Play Store installed. Also it's not rooted. Does anyone know of available information about this phone about custom roms, rooting and installing the Play Store?
Here a link to a site with some general info: http://www.gizchina.com/2012/09/06/galaxy-s3-clone-mtk6577-with-45-inch-hd-retina-display/
Would love to hear others opinions and findings about this phone.
Thanks for reading.
G64
Hi G64,
for rooting you should try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
The latest version of the script can be found in the first posting. Bin4ry did excellent work here. It should work on most MTK6577 phones and worked for my B92M which has Android 4.0.4 and MTK6577, and I heard from a lot people with MTK6577 that it worked for them too.
After rooting you should be able to install the Play store by yourself with the help of ES File explorer and PhoneSky.apk (the latter one is the Play store) - just google for it, there are quite a lot tutorials for this task around the net, e.g. here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582422
The tutorial implies that there is already an unmodded version of the Play store installed in the phone, maybe it works anyway. But be sure to rename the Vendig.apk to Phonesky.apk before installing, as told in page 2 of the link above.
I am interested in the phone, too, so please be so kind and answer to the following questions:
1) does it have dual sim support? Your link says only one sim is supported.
2.) battery size in mAH?
3.) does it really have (about) 1 GB RAM?
4.) does it really have 1.2 GHZ?
5.) could you please tell me the AnTuTu benchmark score?
Thank you very much.
Hi asskicker,
Sorry to get back a little late. I don`t have the phone here atm. Do you know perhaps if i can install that Play Store thing on a NOT rooted phone ? Because the most important is the Play Store.
I`ll try to answer your questions here:
1) does it have dual sim support? Your link says only one sim is supported.
- It has 2 SIM slots
2.) battery size in mAH?
- Battery says 2100mAH
3.) does it really have (about) 1 GB RAM?
- I can`t install Apps a normal because it lacks Play Store at this moment (for Antutu).
4.) does it really have 1.2 GHZ?
- I can`t install Apps a normal because it lacks Play Store at this moment (for Antutu)
5.) could you please tell me the AnTuTu benchmark score?
- I can`t install Apps a normal because it lacks Play Store at this moment (for Antutu)
When i can install the Play Store i am happy to post the questions ant further. But i need to have the phone first so i can try the Play Store install.
But if you know that the Play Store installer can also be used without Rooting than it might be quicker to have the info.
BR
Hi G64,
thank you for the answer.
I am pretty sure that it will not work to install the Play Store without rooting the phone. But rooting is really easy if you follow the link in my post.
About the RAM: Android will tell you the free & used amount of RAM if you go to settings -> apps -> active tab. The two values will tell you the complete amount of RAM installed.
@GaMeR64 - Did You root'ed phone success or not?
I'm very interresting answer for @asskicker question 3, 4 and 5
Unfortunatly no. People can't miss their phones for like 5 minutes these days
Do you know if GPS works ok?
hello , i have this item about 4 weeks and its real fine
all works great , better build and hardware quality as the star b92m or my umi x1 ( No GPS on this devices , and netwok suppot real poor )
this thing for moment price round 170 $ , is the best alternative on dual sim sector ... which have MTK 6577 :good:
i ordered here : http://www.aliexpress.com/item/4-5i...core-1GB-4GB-Dual-camera-5-0MP/668733010.html
really good seller , but others have the phone cheaper at the moment .
sorry for my english
greetings
@dynamo4ever - why CPU freq on screen max is 667MHz??? antutu result test with this freq?
How long phone work on full charged battery?
Some new (and proofed) informations about the phone. I'm very interested in this phone.
I've just ordered one from here:
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181036120686
£117.86 GBP.
The ebay advert says it's Dual Sim and judging by an earlier poster's screenshots it supports two sim cards as the notification area shows wifi + mobile reception + airplane mode (for the other sim).
I was about to go for a Star B92, but I'm hoping this phone works out better as it has 1GB ram instead of 512MB and better GPS.
If someone could post a step-by-step guide on how to root and install the play store app that would be awesome.
Thanks!
This phone goes by another name Chigon A720. I think those who are interested can find more info searching for Chigon A720 as there seems to be a russian community owning this phone
Mine finally arrived today. However I forgot to order micro sim -> sim adapters so have been unable to test the phone side of things.
It seems pretty fast, the 3d graphics are not great but for non-gaming use it's great. The screen is clear, nice and bright. Good resolution.
The touch screen works well to, better than i was expecting, no problems typing on it at all.
The phone is definately DUAL SIM as there has been some confusion. The two sim card slots are on top of each other.
The GPS works great, I just went snowboarding and used alpine replay to record my tracks with both my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and the CDS CD1000 / Chigon A720 and the results are very similar. Neither device lost GPS position. Out of the box the GPS took almost no-time to get a fix.
The speaker seems OK, music was listenable to, but suffers from the usual lack of bass as every phone I've ever had has done, no suprise there.
I made a call using Skype and CSipSimple and the person on the other end could hear me just fine.
My regular 3.5mm headphones fitted without issue.
The wifi and bluetooth worked just fine, i could connect to my home router and pair with my other devices quickly and easily.
The device came with Android 4.0.4 and had the Play Store already installed along with AppCloud, a chinese app store. I disabled the latter without issue.
Everything I've run on it so far has worked perfectly.
Very happy with it so far, total bargain for the money - however bear in mind i've not tested the dual sim functionality yet. I will post again once i've had the chance to test it.
hi;
my phone arrived last night. I have a problem. my phone's flashlight is very weak. it does not take any photographs in the dark. Even the display light is better than flashlight. there are no images in the darkness. all of the cd1000 are the same or my phone is defective? can I improve light intensity with any programs. how can I fix or repair? if I take a new flashlight led, have be compatible with the phone? does it work? Is there someone who can help? sorry for my bad english.

Just following up on this thread now I've had the phone for a while.
Had no issues with the phones, it's still working great. I have installed a french SFR and a UK GiffGaff SIM card in the phone, one card in each slot. The dual sim functionality works great. Both sim cards are on-air all the time.
The battery life is great. I leave wifi and 2g/3g on all day and it's fine.
It also survived an accidental drop onto a wodden floor from hand-height just fine with no scratches to the casing.
Overall I'm still very impressed by the device. It's a total bargain.

Hi all,
i have the phone here now and have tried to get GApps installed but i can`t get it fixed. I have also installed the latest PlayStore but that immediatly quits when opened. For this i found we need the GoogleFramework that is inside GApps. But how do i install this ?
I also found a guide that said to extract all the *.apk`s from the downloaded gapps zip and then copying them to the device and then manually install them. Doesn`t work. It just says: App not installed.
Do we need Clockwork Recovery Mod to get into recovery or is there also a "Normal" Recovery ? I tried to get in recovery mode with Power button + Volume down but then i enter Factory Mode (not recovery mode) and this has no options to install something from Zip (which Recovery Mode should have i read somewhere).
Hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction.

Things that you dont llike of Galaxy Ace

I really love this phone,my first Android Phone,i bought on june 2012,and i liked it,only three things i dont like are:
Processor Single Core 800 mHz armv6 = I like that this processor were Dual Core 1,2 gHz arm7
Screen and Resolution = 3,5'' and 320x480 ? lol... id prefer a 4,3'' 800x480 (Same as S2)
Low Internal Memory : I solve this problem by partitioning my SD card, but when i bought my phone,i dont know much, and this problem made me piss out some times :///
So thats it,post whats the thing that you dont like of Galaxy Ace and as you would like it to be

That's not gonna change anything but bring hatred to what we love now. Just good if the thread be closed...
I used to have beautiful life before. Now I'm in engineering...!
gets hot when charging
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda app-developers app
App drawer unsorted
I installed a bunch of apps after being given this phone went to app drawer and what the heck no sort option everything is jumbled.
Expect at least a basic A-Z order.
Calender cant do custom repeat interval - every x days, incredible , had to connect to google to even start the bloody calender !
Wallpaper, again bareboned, trying to set custom wallpaper it doesn't seem capable of resizing the image, had to download an app
which is adware lading brrrr.
Overall Im getting a bit disillusioned with android, most apps on the phone are really barebones . i know i can download from the
app store etc , but one assumes for a reasonable phone reasonable software.
And most so called free apps are addware to boot, I dont have a data plan. so you end up paying in a way anyway.
At least it manages to play my ogg's, which is its primary use, cant see it being usefull for much else really.
Tried a number of roms, but found none stable enough, so flashed back to 2.3.6 stock.
Not trying to sound rude, but this thread is kinda pointless. My Ace is 1 of 2 androids I have and it is the main one I use. I simply love the phone. It's a low end phone so, yes it does have it's limitations. Would you expect a smart car to perform like a lambourghini? of course not. This is a phone that has lots of potential, which is why there are so many roms being made for it, and so may scripts to expand the funcionality of the phone. In short, it is easy to make it YOUR phone.

[Q] Gigabyte GSmart Maya and Gsmart Rio - any experience and reviews?

It seems that our phone market here (in Croatia) has recently been updated with some brands i haven't seen before - Gigabyte and Prestigio. I know them as tablet and/or computer peripherals manufacturers, but i haven't really known that they also made phones.
My friend bought a Prestigio phone a few months ago and he is satisfied with it, although i can't get any detailed infos from him since he only uses it for calls and angry birds when he's on the toilet
Today i noticed two Gigabyte phones that are both packed with features and seem to be a good bargain, considering price and what is stated as phones' specs. Here are the two ones i noticed:
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=5400&idPhone2=5401
I'm wondering has anyone had any experience with these phones? For the price, (a little more than €200 - a really good price for that kind of phone here) they almost seem too good to be true. I was also wondering what's the real difference between the processors? Both of them have 1gHz dual core, but the Rio model (cheaper and weaker) has Qualcomm MSM8225 Snapdragon, and the more expensive Maya model has MTK 6577. I have heard of Snapdragon before, and i think it should be a good processor, but i have no information on the latter one.
Oh, and maybe it's good to note that the cheaper, Rio model comes with android 4.0, with no possibility of upgrade, and Maya comes with 4.1
Anyways, what should I expect of these phones? Should I consider buying any of them at all? Did anyone try to root them and put any custom rom on them?
also, this model popped into my eyes... also a gigabyte phone:
http://www.gsmarena.com/gigabyte_gsmart_gs202-5174.php
I bought RIO R1 yesterday so its quite new for me, but as I used many android phones I can compare it quite well.
I can compare it to htc desire, wildfire s, sensation and many others
so the biggest problem is battery drain, but Im used to charge battery often so its not so big deal for me.
problem is with headphones, only the ones packed with phone works ok, but I will try more of them (htc headphones start music application and radio is only mono)
phone is little bit laggy but Im trying to get rid of apps I dont want.
root was easy done in 5 minutes and the most of the time was used for searching for right drivers and software.
I found CWM but its for A30 and phone does not show anything in recovery mode. I tried [email protected] but got nothing. I will try to search and play with it.
both sim cards work great (only one sim can be used for hi-speed internet, second one is only on edge), you can choose the time to choose from which card will you call or use predefined.
you can set own ringtone for every sim card and if you get sms or call you can see on which sim card.
I installed all apps from my htc desire and its much faster but I have problem with my favourite launcher - action launcher. I will try nova launcher as I have paid version.
Im waiting for 4.1 or higher or maybe I will also try to compile it for tests.
