Hello all! I'm not new to rooting, but haven't tried it on my CDMA RAZR yet and am looking to get back into the fun. Anyway, my question is... Can I stay on the ICS kernel and flash a JB ROM in the slots on Safestrap? Also, do slots only run from the internal memory or can I use the SD card?

JB and ICS both use different kernels, so if you have a ICS Kernel then you can not run a JB rom. And as for the slot for a new comer you can say they only run from the internal memory.
Well i got a GSM XT910 Razr and ICS is my stock system. Using Safestrap I've flashed on Rom Slot 1 many JB roms. Im currently running CM10 as my daily driver still got ICS on my stock system untouched

I don't doubt you, but this defies my understanding of how Safestrap works. Can you check kernel and android versions on stock and CM10 to verify they are different? This would be HUGE for me.
I too want to run CM10, but I use a lapdock and need at least one slot to have ICS.

I have the 181 update installed but seems like waiting for Ics on RAZR is going to take way longer than expected. I want to switch to something new like eclipse....Ics leak had too many issues for me. So can i flash a rom while running on 181?
Sent from my XT910 using XDA
Absolutely, I flashed on .181 and have had zero problems. Eclipse is even a little more battery efficient.

Awesome I cannot wait to flash later. What's best way to go about this?
Bootstrap or safestrap?
Sent from my XT910 using XDA
If you're an XT912(CDMA-Verizon) owner go safestrap as its safer,no bootlooops, switching between ROMs. Sadly, if you're an XT910(GSM) owner you'll have to use bootstrap.
Here's a website with some helpful guides on how to install either one of them, how to install ROM and more.

First off, I'm no android noob. I'm just not used to the process of installing roms on a Motorola phone. I am currently running the jellybean ota and I am rooted. I want to install this rom here: http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/6188-romjb-fat-free-bean-beta/ and it talks about activating a rom slot. Can anyone guide me through getting everything setup and ready to run this rom?

Getting ready to do my very first root on my Razr Maxx XT912.
Currently running 4.0.4
Should I OTA to JB then root, or root from ICS or does it really matter?
Any benefits or downsides to either?
Thanks,
Jeff

You might get more support on XDA if you stay on ICS, esp if the jb OTA just came online. I personally don't think there's all that much benefit, you can always do your prl, profile, update, once you root anyway. But if you want to flash a custom jb ROM, all the ones I've flashed require you to flash a stock one first. Then if that's the case, then yeah, def ota to jb so you have it already when you flag a custom jb.good luck. Read read read before you root!

Well went to JB before root. Then found out they did away with speed dial. I loved speed dial! Anyway everything works out great. Thanks those that replied.

I have a Verizon cdma Droid Razr Maxx xt912 that I've gained root access on using the BLADE exploit. I installed safestrap v3.11 and have been using it to try out a few ROMS, my favorite of which is Liquidsmooth v2.9 (it was the only one that worked 100%). I would like to completely remove all traces of the STOCK Motorola/Verizon Jellybean and install Liquidsmooth as the sole operating system. Is this even possible?
Yes,it is possible, but not recommended, because it is based on CM 10.1 and it has bugs, but you could do it using BMM,just keep a nandroid backup of your stock system for when you need stability, believe me it will happen.

+1, Aztek. I wouldn't RSD anything except stock. Best off BMM or Safestrapping and using a separate partition. Believe me when I say- you will, at some point, want to start over from scratch...and for it to be easy.
Ok. So I have a Droid RAZR original verizon (xt912 I belive) on page plus. I have had someone flash it so it is full 3g so it works on Page Plus. I had it on ICS when it was flashed. Then I updated to the Motorola 4.1.2 Update and I had to get it flashed again. The person who flashed it charges 60 bucks, so it is impossible for me to get this phone flashed again. I have successfully rooted this phone on android 4.1.2. If I install a custom ROM, will I have to flash it again, because I don't want to fork over another 60 bucks. If it does lose page plus 3g, is there an easier way to flash this myself?
Thanks,
VLASP
Yes I have Pageplus and I always flash roms and get everything working with out flashing again. And you didnt have to pay that much! 60 is too much. Google "Droid RAZR on Pageplus" and you will find the tutorial on how to flash it step by step. I flashed it without knowing anything about flashing phones. Good luck!

So those tutorials also work on custom roms? That's nice to know. Thanks! I will try it.

Just flash on stock ROM, and as soon as you install roms it will automatically stay connected you do t have to reflash after each install of a ROM.

ok. thanks for the tip. So if I am on stock right now and install a custom ROM of any kind, it will keep PagePlus?
Yes it will keep the flash, and will have everything working.
