[Q] TWRP Advice - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Apparently Voodoo OTA doesn't keep root now with the official JB update?
(I've been using my Nexus7 for a while hence why I am just now coming back to my TF201)
Now I guess it's time to unlock /re-root and flash a custom ROM.
So before I continue on with any unlocking / rooting, I want to make sure I have the correct file (http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/tf2...1.1-tf201.blob) for my device so I don't brick it.
My Build number on my device is JR030c.US_epad-10.4.2.18-20121122
Is the above TWRP file the correct image for my build#?
Thanks all.

Your link isn't complete.
I can tell you tho that you are on the Jellybean Bootloader so get this http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/tf201/openrecovery-twrp-2.4.1.0-tf201-JB.blob

So the TWRP build number doesn't have to match the build number of my device?
I think that is where I was getting confused..... The build number of the TWRP is just the "version number" of the TWRP file?

Yes, you want the newest version of TWRP but for the correct bootloader. You are on Jellybean bootloader so I have linked you to the newest version for that.

Thanks. Huge help. I posted this same exact question on numerous threads for the past few days and you are the first one to answer.
Appreciate it.

That's unusual that I missed it. I read most of the new threads. You must have been posting on old threads that I thought were dead.

No worries.... that's why I started a new thread in case anyone missed the new post on the older threads.
I've unlocked, attempting to install the TWRP now. If I brick it, I have a Nexus7 on standby. lol

You should be fine..
When you go into fastboot mode it will freeze on the prime screen. That is normal.
You will probably have to install universal naked drivers from the Dev section then in device manager if you have an unknown device before continuing.

I've successfully installed TWRP.
I had no freezing issues and the driver got installed by windows update (of all things?)
Running a backup now in TWRP and placing it on SDCard before I go any further.
Again, huge thanks.

How Do I Identify bootloader on already rooted Gtab?

Hi All,
I searched and searched, but can't figure out how to identify the bootloader. I bought this gtab off of craigslist and it has already been rooted to VEGAn-TAB-v1.0.0B5.1
I want to install VEGAn-GE-7.0.0-RC1, but I before I do I want to be sure I'm on the right bootloader. Any Idea how to Identify the bootloader after the Gtablet has already been rooted?
Go to Settings, About Tablet & look at Tap UI Version. If it starts with 1.1, you're on 1.1 the bootloader (b/l). If it starts with 1.2, you're on the 1.2 b/l.
Thanks for the response! I tried that before, but I dont seem to have a Tap UI Version because I am presently rooted and have the VEGAn-TAB-v1.0.0B5.1 installed. It gives me a build number, kernal version and Model number

Google "Gtablet for dummies", it's hte only place you'll need ot look for just about anything. under start here, there is a drop down, wiht a "rom" entry, click on that and there is a convenient table that illustrates what roms are available and on what bootloaders.

I second this.
The tutorials on that site are second to none.
You will probably end up nvflashing back to a stock version anyway.

Ditto that, before you try to flash any other ROM. do a clean flash
using the Bl 1.2 with CWM.

No, if you are unlocked that would brick your device. Wait for some rom developer to make version for unlocked prime.
The only solution would be to unzip then unblob the zip and flash the different parts with nvflash.
I'll let you Google for that. Some posts are useful on xda.

Thanks. After looking around for unblobing I've come to the conclusion that it's above my head and/or not worth the trouble.
EDIT:
The answer to my original question is also here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22897771&postcount=1
Never read that thread since I've luckily never had a soft/hard brick on this device.

[Q] Jelly Bean Unlocking Question

Hi there everyone. Was just looking up guides and tutorials on unlocking my tf201.
I went to the asus website to download the unlock tool http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=20&m=Eee+Pad+Transformer+Prime+TF201&hashedid=FqCKMQDqgvSncfFM
And I noticed it says: Unlock Device Boot Loader (only works with tf201 ICS OS)
So my question is: Do I have to wait for asus to update their bootloader? or what do you guys recommend I'd do?
Thanks in Advance.

Hey, first of all pls check, if you have a serial number:
Settings->About Tablet -> Status
if S/N is empty, your device doesnt know its S/N. you can add it manually with a tool called "ratchet",
here are the instructions: http://androidroot.mobi/2012/01/31/introducing-ratchet-the-unknown-serial-fix/
credits to the author.
(you find your serial number on a sticker on the bottom of your tablet, or on the package in which it was shipped..)
After that, when you can see your S/N in Settings->About Tablet -> Status, you can try again.
if this fails to, you can try the following:
Some users reported, that they where able to unlock, after a factory reset. but remember: you loose root with factory reset and there is no root-method atm for JB.
If all the stuff didnt work: you are one of the "lucky" guys: there will be no unlock for your device and asus refuses support. (you are not alone, me and many others are with you)
atm there is an official asus employee named Tien, who is trying to help us. no success so far, but lets hope..

I haven't used CM10 since the early Craig builds, but reading around it looks like at least one version of CM10 here in the development area doesn't use the newer JB bootloader so if you had already upgraded ota to JB then you have the latest JB bootloader and CM10 won't work unless you use one that has been built based on the new bootloader.
In my opinion, don't get hung up on thinking CM10 is the end all be all for our Primes. Either Craigs stock JB Rom or Hairybean 1.3 give a very nice JB experience with lots of tweaks.
Good luck

I first saw this behaviour about 2 weeks ago. I think you get this situation if you go direct to the download page/tab. If you navigate off the download page to another page on the site and then return (not by using the browser's back button but using links on the page) you find the drop down list is populated.

Rumrunner works fine on the latest OTA (3.06.605.4). There are some reports of other issues related to windows 8.1 not recognizing the dna. You also need to make sure you have the correct drivers installed, make sure you have HTC sync uninstalled, and you may have to disable anti-virus software. I'm sure there is plenty of other help on rumrunner if you search through the fora.

I'm having the same issue. Came over from an S3 so I'm familiar with rooting and unlocking, but I'm a bit confused at which method is the latest. I've went down a wormhole of threads that keep saying to use a different method since one is outdated. If I'm on 4.1.1 with software 2.08.605, baseband 1.01.04.xxxx, which method is used for rooting and flashing a custom recovery? Or should I take the OTA and root?

Take the OTA to bump you up to 3.06.605.4. Then you can use rumrunner to unlock the bootloader, root, and s-off. Next, you'll have to flash a custom recovery through either adb or an app (e.g., flash image GUI or Flashify). See the youtube clip below for a walk through on installing a custom recovery through adb. I would suggest using either the latest beta twrp (see link to CM11 thread below), cwm 6.0.4.5, or the new advanced cwm. These all work with 4.4 based ROMs.
Beta twrp: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47629442
Advanced cwm: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2595978

Great to hear. S3 had a pretty strong dev community which was great, just wanted to move on. The CM11 builds were super fast for it, but the camera and signal was lacking (although the GS3 has a weaker radio than the DNA). I ended up sticking with the more popular stock Touchwiz roms that were slightly tweaked, so that is my mentality here unless CM11 handles data handoffs better on the DNA.
Oh my gosh, thank you!!! These "phone forums" are freaking impossible to understand. Are "phone people" not computer people? I'm starting to think that. Anyway, THANKS!

I'm new to this whole custom rom thing and i would like to ask for some help. Right now, my phone is rooted and the bootloader has been unlocked.I have tried to install paranoid rom, cyanogenmod and carbon rom so far. I have tried to CWM and TWRP and every single time, i get an error. First time i got the status 7 error. After some searching, i learnt that i have to delete a line of code to get it to work. After i did that, i tried to flash again. This time, i just got an installation aborted error. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
I downgraded my phone to C6802 and as a result, lost my LTE. But this was the only way i knew to root my Sony Xperia Z Ultra running 4.3. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks guys.
Getting LTE back
If you guys don't know how to help me, at least can you guys tell me how i can get LTE back? I dont mind losing root and relocking my bootloader. I just want LTE back. And yes, my phone has LTE capability. I've used LTE for the past 2 weeks.

LTE will return when you get on the correct ROM. as for flashing custom ROMs read the threads, the instructions are normally quite good
CM11 and the new carbon (any rom that is based on 4.3 or 4.4) need to be on 4.3 before flashing them

I'm on android 4.3 now. And the instructions have nothing. If you can find any thread with the solution please direct me to them.

I just looked at 2 or three and the instructions weren't too bad...
Start at .xxx
fastboot a boot.ing with recovery if you don't have it
wipe as needed
flash .zip from recovery
reboot
Other than that read the sticky by @LordManhattan and read the thread for the rom
