Spider Crack on Battery Door - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Has anyone else had a problem with spider cracks randomly appearing on your battery door. I've never dropped my phone and have always kept it in an otterbox.
One day I took the cover off and in the bottom right corner I have a circular spider crack

Now that you mention it I have one on mine. Hmmm

I had one on my Blue S3 but I can't find one on my White Note 2. It's kind of hard to spot.

Can't find any on mine. I've kept it in a Seidio ACTIVE case pretty much the whole time I had it. However. It has seen about 3 drops from 1-2 feet up. 2 of the drops were in the case, the last one was naked. Took a nasty fall while testing out my navigation mount suction cupped to my hardwood desk.
Note to all - the Samsung mount does not suction cup to hardwood desks.

Lmao, I would have never tried it on wood. Can you guys post a picture of the crack? I want to see what I should look for!

I don't have any cracks but my friends gs3 was kept in a case since day one and he got some. I'm thinking about getting a new back anyways with out all the Verizon garbage on it
Doin' big thangs from my Note Deuce

Yep I have one. I wonder if its from wearing a case?

No cracks on mine or the wife's, hope they stay that way!

Found one on my white s3 when I went to sell it. Never noticed it until that day. Nothing on the N2 yet, but I'm guessing it will have the same thing.

^That's exactly how my s3 looked. Nature of the beast, I suppose.

Have a spot just like that on mine looks like its where the corner of the battery meets the back door....

Well.... that sucks. Seems like it's only a matter of time before we all end up with them =/

Lol yes. It's obviously Samsung's signature to give all of our phones character.
I guess it could be worse?
Sent from fast Note2 via Premium XDA app.

No cracks on mine and I take my cover off on a daily basis to replace my battery; I never recharge my phone but swap batteries. It could be much, much worst because the door is the cheapest part to replace. Some of those carbon fiber and leather backs look much better than the Verizon branded stock ones. Funny part is that I have a spare NFC chip from the free flip cover Samsung sent me a few weeks ago.
It would be a different story if I heard or experienced a crack in the housing. Then I would be pissed.

Waterproof cases...?

Do they exist.

I think the Kraken is water resistant. Ballistic is working on a water proof one, but who knows when that will be ready.

There are some waterproof cases, they have the ziplock at the top and are like dive bags.
The Convert by Sedio , and the forthcoming Ballistic HC will be water resistant, but not waterproof.
Thanks guys, I'm just trying to prep for something I can take snowboarding and not have to worry about snow melting into. I'll take a look at these cases.

I can recommend the http://www.aquapac.net/usastore/water-electronics-mini-871-0.html.
I've been using Aquapac's for nearly a decade and have never had any problems.
Actually an old case bought for an iPaq with a Navman sleeve fits perfectly for my Samsung Galaxy Tab.
The one i'm using for my Evo 3D is 3-4 years old but looks identical to the one in the link.
I cant believe I didnt mention the Otterbox defender.
one of the firemen in my area, actually dropped his phone in a snow bank, found it after a 2 hour search, and it was completely unharmed.

Snowboarding? I'd be afraid I'd break the phone, but I suggest a good Ziploc bag also, maybe two just to be safe.

The defender isn't water resistant, I have one. There are a lot of openings in it. The speaker, camera LEDs, earpiece and microphone have nothing over them at all.

Cracked casing already??

I just noticed on my phone that the whole silver casing on my white S3 is cracking in atleast 10 places. I have not dropped the phone at all and it just started doing this. I took it to sprint and they said they have no idea whats happening so I called customer service and they're sending me a new one.
Sooo has this happened to anyone else?? Look at the sides real carefully and please reply!
Unfortunately, this has been happening with numerous S3s in Europe prior to our US release. No clue there why either.
I checked mine carefully and I have what looks like 4 seams, one in each corner. Almost positive they came with the phone tho.

I have the same four seams. Don't see any cracks on my device, luckily. I've been using the pebble blue 16GB S3 since the 21st.
Hmm yeah mine has the 4 seams as well. Are all of yall's the blue version?? Mine is white but i doubt that makes a difference.
Mine is white too. Hopefully you can get a replacement soon and the rest of us don't develop this problem

Holy Hell.. well can't argue Samsung isn't using cheap plastic build quality. I thought they were on top of it. The sgs3 seems so Damn fragile with the weaker screen and plastic compared to my s2.
It's like pick your poison. Get an s3 that has great specs and software/hardware enhancements but it'll crumble in your hands.
Or evo that has great specs and camera but it has sense 4, resource hungry and will die without warning.

The 1st thing i did out of the package was inspect the blue S3 and automatically noticed those 4 seems however I just took it as that's how is was manufactured and not a defect.

Tougher than you think

So tonight my phone decided to take a flight down some stairs. Down 4 metal stairs on a metro bus each being nearly a foot tall. Picked it up thinking it'd have major scratches or cracked screen. I looked it over and nothing. No scratches on body or screen. I was so relieved. No case or screen protector on it. My phone likes to be naked.
Attached is the stairs it went down.

I dropped mine for the first time last night. Note 2 in Case Mate Pop case holstered in my Seidio Active holster hooked onto my shoulder strap of my back pack and some how it detached itself from the holster and fell flat, back first. My heart dropped when I heard the sound of my N2 hitting the ground! Phone survived with only minor dents/scratches on the case corners.
Wondering how much internal damage was done?.....

You guys are starting to scare me about the DNA

Some software problems, drops with broken screens. Was planning on getting the DNA on my upgrade in a couple months. My TB will be antique, 2 years old in April and I have a zag screen cover Sence day one and only a silicone cover with the back cut out for extended battery. Have dropped it more times than I can remember. No dents, chips or broken screen. So the DNA is really that fragile? Some problems I expected hopefully less than TB, but broken screens that easy with gorilla glass is starting to scare me. Should I really be concerned about this or is the DNAs performance that good to overlook the easy screen breaks. Some advice please. Thanks.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
The screen doesn't break easily, but its glass. Its harder to break than the tb. But A lot of people run their DNA with no case, and if you drop it and the glass hits something solid there's a good chancecof it breaking.

I don't know how many DNA's have been sold, but my guess is quite a few. You saw literally a few post about people who DROPPED their phone most likely without any kind of case, and that's enough you persuade you? This is one of, if not the best phone money can buy right now, you wont regret buying it.
Dropped 20+ times with screen protector and stepped on minor scratches only .. now if u face palm a phone from getting out the car etc most will take a ding or even crack. The DNA to me was togher than I thought it would screen included ..

Pretty much this.
This is a great phone, arguably the best device on the market right now. Get a protector, that way you can drop your device at leisure.
Just wait a few months until the new line of phones come out... This is the best phone out now..

I would guess the DNA is only marginally more vulnerable than the TB. The glass on the DNA covers all the front and a little of the sides. That means if you drop it on the side it could crack, unlike the TB.
If you drop both flat on the glass screen then probably both shatter equally.
They need to come out with those flexible screens soon!
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
My DNA has lived through:
1. Being dropped flat on the screen from a standing height
2. Sitting in the passenger seat with no cover/holder/case during a car crash that totaled my car
3. Being dropped in the parking lot from me forgetting it was in my lap when I got out of the car
The first 2 had literally no effect on it; the 3rd case a scratch on the side.. but the screen is still perfectly fine. So.. call me lucky, but I'm pretty impressed with the DNA's durability.
Exactly why I went with the DNA. This phone has display technology that other companies are scrambling to replicate with their respective display manufacturers. Soon there will be tons of apps and game that will require 1080p resolution to run properly.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
Thanks everyone for the feedback. After having a TB I don't believe newer HTC products could handle the bad rap and still leave HTC in the competition. I am impressed with all the comments on the 1080 screen and to run JB out of the box has to be worth it, as my Moto Zoom wifi has been running JB for a while, and I love it. I'm glad to know that I don't have to bubble wrap it now. I'm not crazy about full cover cases but will definitely find something to protect the edges of the glass. I'm sure there may be something out soon that will help. Everyone seems impressed with how it runs, looks and fits to hold. PS I played with the Samsung s3 in the Verizon store felt like a cheap plastic toy that would break if held to tight. Lol wasn't impressed left with my clunky heavy extended battery TB. Will be spoiled to not have a phone with an extended battery along with carrying the charger to. Lol. Thanks again for the good feedback. Will be hard to wait for my tax refund

Yes. Yes it is.
Only dropped it twice from knee height. But it was in an OB case due to the type of job I have... And the tendency of dropping my phone often.
Side note (somewhat off topic) - dropped my DX quite literally over 100 times with no screen protector or case, only came out with little knicks all around the metal and no screen dmg. Amazing

Bought an otterbox defender yesterday

Went and bought one and not sure if I like it. Im super picky about cases on my phone, to be honest I really dont like em, or screen protectors. I love the look and feel of the bare screen. Thinking about taking off the front built in screen protector from the otterbox. Has anyone done this or have suggestions for me about em. Its the first one ive ever bought.

You can just push it out. Keep in mind the screen protector helps keep the plastic part rigid so it may feel wobbly afterwards. Many people do pop it out though, I learn to live with it.

Na I hate it too. Actually took the case off tonight. Screen protector just kills it for me. If it stayed flush on the screen I would love the defender case
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
I have taken it off of all of my otterbox defenders on all my different phones, around 6 in the past 3 years, and I have never really had an issue. One thing I would reccomend is is you want to keep the glue that holds the screen protector on, just in case you ever want to put it back on, you should put it in the freezer. It makes it peel off without taking the glue with it. If you dont ever want it back on then pop it off and get some rubbing alcohol and a toothpick to get the glue that will still be stuck off.
On another note, if you end up not liking the defender you might wanna check out the Urban Armor Gear case for the Note 2. I just got mine a couple weeks ago and its really nice and has protected my phone quite well.

I have always loved Otterboxes until my S3's. The On/Off button was fine before putting on the Otterbox but after it was put on the power button would barely depress and when it did you had to press so hard that the screen would flex. When I tried to take it back and exchange it since it was defective, or so I thought, and found out that that is the way it was meant to fit. .... Needless to say I was very unhappy, when I contacted Otterbox to see if there was anything I could do about it they pretty much told me to f off....
I tried the defender for the Note 2 and the problem didn't seem to be there on the Note 2's casebut after all that it made me never want to deal with them again. I still miss my commuter and defender cases. Maybe when they go on sale I will get one...
Anyway, I am happy that you like it better with the built in screen protector gone
Sent from my SCH-I605 using XDA Premium HD app
if you don't want the screen protector built in with the defender, why not return it and get the commuter?
I picked one up from newegg for around 30$ and love it.
I am loving the commuter, it comes with optional film, ive dropped my phone many times with no issues. The defender was just too bulky, and stuck to pockets with all the exposed rubber material. I also sport an x-gear voyager 2, had one on my s3, and my GN2 with no proximity issues or loss of screen/pen sensitivity.
P.S. voyager is available on ebay for cheaper direct from xgear. (Free shipping and home buttons)
Sent from my SCH-I605 using XDA Premium HD app
I did that with the one I had for the s3. It does feel a little floppy without it on the phone but as soon as you put it on it feels the same. The way I did mine was ro pit ot in the freezer for an hour and let the glue harden. Then it will literally just push right out.
