Spotify drained 4GB of my Data? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been using spotify premium because I enjoy the service, but I just got a text from T-Mobile saying I've used 4.5GB of my 5GB allowance. I went into data management and saw that Spotify has downloaded 4.2 GB of music in the past week. I only have one playlist set to download, but its only 300 songs, no way is it 4.2 GB, plus I download all of my songs over WiFi before I get into my car? I stream music but only rarely. I have noticed that spotify continuously says its downloading my playlist but I didn't think anything of it. Any help on fixing this rogue app?

Go into Spotify, then settings and make sure Download over 2G/3G is set to OFF

Or if you're using an ICS/JB ROM, you can limit how much data an app uses in Settings-Data Usage.

It just seems weird that it would have that much downloaded, there isnt that much in the first place! I hate to turn off the mobile data options, because I never know when ill need it, but thatll have to work for now.

Maybe there's some setting to save your playlist to the device, and since download via mobile network was allowed, it would have downloaded a huge playlist(s) that you had. I suppose this was the case, or there might be an auto-caching option like in Google Play Music.

Yeah spotify allows you to download a playlist to your device, which I do at home when im on wifi. My playlist is 1gb at most, it baffles me how it drained 4gb, and on mobile data to boot.

(Q) How do I turn data on and off for certain apps

On tasker I tried to set a profile so my data would turn on when i would open certain apps like weather and internet but it doesn't work
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
I'm not familiar with tasker, but I know with data intensive apps they usually give you option such as how the app updates itself. Options such as manual, or update every 1... 2... 4... or 6 hours. Why don't see if they offer you those settings?
Sorry if I'm not much help.

It could be because it is backing up stuff for your Google account.

Try Juice Defender Ultimate. It's paid but it would do what you're looking for; you can have data off and then configure apps that are allowed to use data.

Sync music

I've been using itunes and copy and paste the updated folder to sd. Sucks. Not efficient.
I'm trying out winamp and it is copying music to sdcard\music. I want it in ext_sd\music instead. I haven't seen an option to change the directory.
Is there an app that will sync my music to the folder I want?

I've heard isyncr is decent idk from experience, I just use HTC sync for my music

Get drop sync pro. It makes Dropbox on your phone work like the desktop app. You choose the folders on both sides, the time intervals, etc. You can even delay syncs when you're not charging or not connected to wifi

Storage

Okay I Love my dna but I'm am so mad there isn't an SD card slot and all my storage is being used up by some unforeseen ghost. I have 10 gigs of storage being used by, "other" and u have no idea where it is going to. My best friend has the dna as who with the same issue. I have 2 gigs of music, 1.5gigs in my downloads and 1 nandroid (1 gig). That is all I have put in my phone besides the apps and app data. If anyone else has this problem or any idea where my storage is going I would greatly appreciate some help

What's the total of the bloat on the phone? I don't think it counts the bloatware as app data.

Dude, check the data/media vs the 0 folder. You probably have quite a few duplicates in there.

Yeah if you've switched to 4.2 or 4.3 from 4.1.2 that's your problem best bet would be to format your internal SD card.

No.
That's what I thought. So full wipe and then could I push my back up to my phone and restore it?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You should be fine doing that, also there is another way... Get a USB drive and an otg cable and back it up to the drive. Otherwise I would suggest using dropbox over play music, last time I checked when you redownload something from play music it doesn't necessarily download it at the quality it was before.

Htc Power To Give.

So I was browsing on Facebook and I like the htc fan pages I see this app htc makes called htc power to give and decided to check it out.
Basically the app takes your phone and uses it to download bits of information compute it and the sends it back. It acts like a super computer and I thought it was a great way for us htc owners to give back and make a change in the world or contribute to it while we charge our phones and don't use then when we sleep.
Here is the short YouTube video that explains the concept behind the app. It's about a minute and a half long.

And here is the app on Google play if you feel like joining the cause.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.htc.ptg
Just thought I would bring this to attention to those who want to help and make a difference with their htc device.
For those who can't download it on their device I have gone ahead and uploaded it to Dropbox.

I don't think so unless you modify it, but that is way above me. Maybe ask one of the devs around here.

Sorry if this has been asked but does anyone know what the 4 GB is used for? Also does anyone else wish that there was a built in music player? I been trying to figure out a way to start playing music from the watch

You can say OK Google, play music and it will start up Google Music on a I'm Feeling Lucky Playlist. But that is as far as I have explored so far, still feel funny talking into my watch, lol.
Haha yeah, I knew about that but I didn't want it to play thr I'm feeling lucky Playlist, I wish there was a way to play songs from my own library
Sent from my One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
As far as music I can confirm the I'm feeling lucky station plays. I tried with a specific artist and pulled up play store... Might been because I wiped google search app data trying to get ok google everywhere to work.
You can say Play "Artist" "Album" to play a specific album or Play "Artist" "Song" for a specific song.

You need to have Google All Access I guess. Why don't you have Google All Access? You should have Google All Access.

Thats the wierd thing, I have all access and it still asks me to buy the song
Try to use Google now on your phone to start a song. After saying it you should have a short time to choose the default app. This way it even works with Spotify.
