[Q] Does Unlocking a SGS II works successfully

Has anyone actually tried this guide to unlock a SGS II to work with any GSM mobile operator's SIM worldwide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1064978
I am a novice to Andriod world, however I am planning to buy a SGS II. If the method above does really work , then I might have the possibilty of buying an operator locked handset to be unlocked laters for usage with my operator.
It is a request to make more detailed sticky for a final and tested step-wise guide for this unlocking procedure for the benefit of the community.
Thanks.

Hi,
At the end if the OP in the thread you mention you will find a link to an apk that will do all the work for you.

What is apk and how can it work. Is it to be run on the PC or the phone. What is the way of installing it.
Thanks.
Ups, sorry for not being clear enough...
An apk is an android installable file.
In the following thread you will find a link to the apk itself (for manual install) and a link to the android market for automated install.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092451
The only downside is that this app needs root to extract the unlock code. To root your device you need to follow the instructions on this other thread:

Thanks,
So theoretically if i gain root access to the phone and run the attached APK file , it will possibly find out the unlock code for the mobile.
This unlock code would be SIM dependent (depending on which service provider's SIM i have inserted) or the handset specific, meaning that once the handset is unlocked it would accept virtually any service provider's SIM worldwide.
Thanks for the information.
The code is device specific, and will block any sim not being from your provider.
If you gain root access ,which is pretty straightforward with the guides available here in the forum and run that app you will get your unlock code.
Depending on the carrier you may even get an unlocked device. O2 seems to be giving both locked and unlocked phones.
Cheers!

From the above statement, I am a bit confused. Does it mean it will not block any SIM from any service provider.
I intend to buy a locked set from UK (which is usually when you buy a handset with contract) and unlock it to use elsewhere in world. The reason is obvious cost benefit which you get when buying a set with contract.
Is it possible via using this method.
Thanks.
What I wanted to say is that the unlock code does only depend on the device, not on the sim card you insert into the phone.
The sim lock, which that code removes, blocks any sims from providers other than your own.
You will be able to remove the sim lock with that app. The app will give you the unlock code you need.
On top of that, some of the O2 handsets that you buy subsidized are not sim locked (some are, some aren't) so, if you buy the phone from them on contract you may be lucky and get a sim free phone.
Best Regards.
Like wise some PAYG O2 are unlocked .

Alright, guess i would give it a try too.
Just would appreciate if you can guide with the following :
1. Does the phone needs to be in the home network (with the original operator SIM) in order to perform the rooting and install the APK file to get the unlock code.
2. Can we insert any other operator's SIM (which would be locked ofcourse) in the handset which may or may not be in the same country/network and still be able to access the phone main menu or screen to perform the rooting and hence unlocking activity.
3. How to install and run the APK file after rooting the device ( i see there already are other guides about how to perform rooting).
Thanks.

It's difficult to brick a phone with the unlock process because it's not something that can "just be done" to a phone. You generally run an app that gives you an unlock code. You then insert a SIM that shouldn't work, due to SIM locking, and it asks for the code.
This app works...

I thought that if you entered an incorrect unlock code several times that it would screw the phone up, and in the article it mentions that if you run the app more than once it may "freeze" your phone.
Make sure you back your efs up before you try to unlock. Just in case.

Its impossible for Chainfire's APK to brick the phone, it does not make any writes only reads, this is of course the same for my manual method.
If you are rooted running the MIUI ROM and unlock the phone with this app will the phone still be unlocked if you flash a stock ROM back onto the phone?

The unlock is permanent, the only way your phone would be re-locked would be by restoring your EFS which was locked.
Steps i have done :
- Root phone.
- Backup EFS with "EFS Pro" (just in case)
- SGS2 SIM unlock code finder
And done ... all operators unlocked.

[Q] Help unlocking please

So I accidently have locked myself out of my phone by changing my number to another network and thinking I could still use my current SIM in my phone until I got it unlocked.
I haven't been able to send or receive texts or anything for around 3 days now.
The place online I was getting it unlocked at said there was a delay with Samsung so they refunded me.
I tried the unlock apps but they don't work.
In GalaxSim, it says my phone is unlocked by when I try another SIM it doesn't work.
In the FAQ it says this could be a second SIM lock by the service provider, and to fix it I have to flash a full unbranded Samsung ROM.
I was wondering how I do this?
I'm on Cyanogen 10 and I currently have Jellybean on my device but I'm not too sure on what I have to do to flash to this ROM and if it will erase my data?
Thanks for any help!

CM10/jellybean is not a "stock" rom. CM10 is a "AOSP" based rom.
Stock rom refers to your devices/carriers default rom, ie Samsung based rom. Get your needed rom from sammobile.com
Flashing Guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
If you want to unlock your device use the search there is plenty of topics if you use keywords like "sim unlock" etc.

I didnt say you have to do anything however you may have compatibility issues unlocking sim so would probably best to go back to stock.
Yes, you can go back and forth to any rom you want.
Flash stock rom via odin (download mode)
Flash Siyah kernel (again in download mode)
Reboot into recovery and wipe data/factory reset.
Boot Android and use sim unlock etc.
Reboot into recovery and flash whatever rom you like.
Thanks for that, I went onto that site you mentioned, sammobile.com and I chose to do their unlock method with SRS, it was only 15 euro so I'll see if it fixes it!
Thanks

Are you crazy?
There is plenty of ways to do it yourself for FREE if you would just stop been lazy and use search button.
Obviously I'm wasting my time, waste your money.
1) Get Mobile Odin Pro for 3 euro and download this Unbranded Stock ROM:
http://www.sammobile.com/2012/11/15/i9100xxlsj-%E2%80%93-galaxy-s-ii-android-4-1-2-jelly-bean-test-firmware/
2) Read Mobile Odin thread by chainfire:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899
3) Flash the downloaded ROM following the guide above.
4) Check if your network still locked, If it is check this thread out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2070375
5) Tell us how you did.
When I try run Mobile Odin it gives me an error about not being able to detect the device. It's not asking for super user privileges either?

It was rooted but then I did a root checker and it said it wasn't, must of lost it after changing to CM 10 I think.
I downloaded some auto rooter and that rooted the phone for me. Then I followed your instructions and now I'm freshly formatted but still not working. Tried all the unlocker tools again and still doesn't work. GalaxUnlock says I'm already unlocked so it must be a second network lock.
But in his instructions he says that flashing to a stock Samsung ROM fixes it, but I thought that's what I just done.
sure you don't have an IMEI issue? You did back EFS folder before you flashed for the first time right?
check you IMEI by dialing *#06# and see if it matches the imei number sticked below the battery.

IMEI matches the one that I had before I started trying all this and matches the one behind the battery.
In the Galaxy Unlocker app I backed up the EFS files when it asked me tther than that I haven't touched them really. Any recommendations? I've tryed pretty much everything I have seen.
I'm searching for the network info key-in code, for you to see what's locked and what's not. Can't seem to find it tho.
Do you have another carrier sim card to put in & see if it asks for an unlocking code?

I currently have my Meteor sim card in the phone, that's the company I was with for years.
The phone lets me browse and use apps and stuff when this sim card is in it.
I have another sim card for 48 who I am changing to, which asks for the unlock code.
Before with GalaxSim Unlock, it said I was already unlocked. I downloaded an old version now everything says undefined, and said it can't read the nv data, however I am nearly positive I have backups of this as I saw them on the card.
Galaxy S2 SIM Unlock just gives me an unlock code of 00000000 which doesn't work and Galaxy S Unlock doesn't work either, altough it says it does

I have Busybox installed, but I have two versions, BusyBox free and BusyBox installer, don't know if it matters that I have the two of them.
I have went to a much lower version of it but GalaxSim Unlock still says it can't read nv data.
I tried that program also and it says my Video card isn't supported :S
And hit the restore button in Galaxy S 2 Unlock and GS2_Repair so I presume it got restored. Where should the efs folder be located so I can double check?

GalaxSim Unlock should have a restore button, dunno the location of the back up, but the EFS folder should be in the data folder, u'll need a root explorer to get to it.

[Q] Cannot unlock SIM with any method

A few days ago, after upgrading the CM 10.1 nightly, the phone "lost" the SIM unlock I had already done a few years ago. I usually use it with a different company than the one I purchased the mobile, but I unlocked it a lot of time ago with the Galaxy_S Unlock app. I have tried to use it again, but the SIM is still locked. I tried GalaxSIM Unlock and Galaxy S2 SIM Unlock as well, with no good result. GalaxSIM Unlock renders a code, but when I enter it the phone yields a message saying that the request was wrong.
I re-installed a stock ROM and re-rooted the phone again, and used the three apps again, but the SIM lock is still present.
Do you have any ideas on what could be going on?

[Q] ICS to JB? Will my phone sim relock?

Hi,
Im new to all of this, so I have a few questions:
- I have successfully updated my i9100m from GB to ICS(using the stickied guide)... without losing my unlock. Will I lose my unlock if I flash from ICS to JB?
The reason I'm asking is because I've read that there are some cases where ppl have lost their unlock.
Interesting thing though,
- galaxsim(xda version and marketplace version) unlock is unable to read my .nv data and it's status is undefined.
- chainfire galaxy 2 unlock can't find an unlock code.
- helroz galaxy_s unlock gives me gibberish for the code.
the imei from *#06# is the same as the one on the phone behind the battery.
this phone was given to me because it had the eternal flight mode problem, which I fixed by repairing it with helroz gsII_repair.
Any feedback is appreciated!
What do you mean "lose my unlock"? Is your phone carrier branded or an international model? Because the international models are not SIM/carrier locked.
BE CAREFUL WITH SIM UNLOCK. First backup your IEMI because SIM unlocking can corrupt it.
I have a bell branded i9100m.
currently it is unlocked but I'm scared that it will relock.
I have backed up the efs file, but this was already after the file was corrupted to give me the eternal flight mode.

I can make calls, sms, data works fine... that's why it's weird. *#06# gives me a IMEI, when before it didnt.
Is there any tool or method that I can make sure that my .nv data can be restored for sure, so that I can sim unlock in the case that upgrading to stocj JB might relock my sim unlock?
You can use HC-ktool to backup your IEMI. It's in the play store.

[Q] How to Unroot Galaxy S2 i-777 ATT outside of USA ?

Hi all
I have a galaxy s2 i777 ATT - I can't find its own place on this forum so please forgive me if this in the wrong section
My S2 was unrooted and then I loaded omni kitkatt on it which locked my sim . big noob mistake I feel really dumb believe me.
Now I had unrooted it in the with odin and loaded Siyah ics to finally root it because the sim got locked. I live outside of the USA and nowhere near an ATT network. It has the CWM recovery on it
So all was well until someone ( my nephew ) decided to load omni again and then he loaded Carbon on it
The strange thing that is happening right now is that I do see Superuser in the settings but my sim is still locked I tried to use galaxys2 unlock but it doesnt do anything.
No biggie right but now it turns out my USB port is not working.
So here are my questions :
- How do i get my phone back to stock without a pc and root it (I live outside of the usa thats why I believe my sim gets locked ) so we can use the phone again to call
or
- Can I use mobile odin to load the stock version of android back on it and then unroot it again so I can unlock my phone ?
- Can I try to use frama root to check if my phone is really rooted and if so can it help root my phone ?
For now I'd just like to get it back to stock and root it ( so I can unlock my sim)
I need your help .
Thanks
Maddie
The good news is that you're in the right place, so welcome!
Next, I'm guessing you're still on Carbon? If so please look in System Settings >About Phone and please tell us the rom, kernel and modem version currently installed on your device. It's always good for us to know your full setup.
Regarding the sim issue I have virtually no experience with it, but I do know you can simply call AT&T and they should supply the unlock code (if you have a working phone, of course). You may have to supply your serial and IMEI #, both of which can be found on the battery, so probably best to have that handy if you call them.
You don't have to be on bone stock to unlock your phone, you just need the unlock code... and hang onto it for as long as you own your i777!
Have you tried the GalaxSim Unlock application? Here is a link to download the free version. You may find that you can unlock your rooted phone without flashing back to stock. I have limited experience with this application. I recently sold an AT&T SGH-I897 Captivate which I unlocked successfully with this app while it was rooted on stock Gingerbread. The purchaser wanted KitKat so I loaded CyanogenMod 11 onto it, and checked that the unlock was still present.
To answer your other questions:
I'm not sure why you are asking to "unroot" the phone after returning to stock. As far as I know, you need to be rooted to unlock the phone unless you have the unlock code from AT&T.
You can flash stock firmware with mobile odin. The stock package does not contain root, so your phone will automatically be "unrooted." If you go this route, I would suggest you use the I777UCMD8 stock tar from the Download Repository.
From stock UCMD8, you can successfully root the phone with Framaroot using the Aragorn exploit.

The reason I wanted to go back to stock and than unroot it with the siyah ics kernel is because that seems to be stable for my phone.
Yes I have tried using galaxy unlock but it doesn't work it doesn't read the Imei nr and the sim stays locked
Honestly it looks like my phone is half rooted now
BTW the the sim being locked is more like a carrier locked I can't use the sim with my local telecommunnications company.
Thanks again.
