So I was forced to do the update to 10G (P769) and lost all my apps and pretty much anything. Was curious to see if anyone would have a backup available to share and where they may have found it.
Thanks!
If this method works, then how come we are struggling to root this phone so hard?
voodoo rootkeeper should KEEP the root-backup, if it lost it then the root is just gone and your phone needs to be rooted again.
wait a min, you said you "were forced to update"? you mean via an ota update? this shouldn't loses root after installing voodoo rootkeeper and backing up root, i'm on p760 and kept root after ota to 10e
did you do a backup in voodoo?

I had used Voodo to back up my root when I learned about other people getting the 10G update on P769BK.. left my phone on to charge overnight and somehow it performed the update. Root keeper says I have no backup. =[
What I'm trying to do at the moment is I have a spare P769BK at my store (I work for T-Mo) which I have rooted, installed Voodo OTA, backed up and updated to 10G.
Was able to restore root on the store device and currently made a ADB backup of the device.. Looking into a way to modify that backup to insert Super SU and the su binary in /system/bin/ and restore on my current device. If that works then we will have a way to root 10G.
I'm VERY open to any input anyone has on this or anyone who has more experience in ADB backups.

Title pretty much explains it all. How is this done? Rename all the .bak's back to .apk, pull the update, refreeze everything?
Is there a .zip we can install through recovery? I'm looking mostly for the fix to the data connectivity. They just turned on 4G in my area and except for the occasional disconnect, I absolutely love it!!!
Create a label with all frozen apps in TiB.
Use Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper to save root.
Upgrade.
Restore root via Voodoo
Freeze application in the label in Tib.
You could also RSD Lite, wipe on first boot, OTA to .748, root, use OTA rootkeeper, protect root and temp unroot, install 6.12.173 (2.3.6) and restore root via OTA rootkeeper.
I checked and saw an OTA update for my Atrix (4.5.141) [mine currently 4.5.91 ; 2.3.4]
I downloaded and install but it appeared a < ! > in process then it restart itself and says update failed.
I think this problem caused by Root.(Is there any way to unroot my phone ?)
Be sure to undo anything you did that requires root access (defrost apps, etc)
For unrooting, it depends how you rooted your phone.
1) if you used the one click method, there's an unroot button
2) if you used the fastboot preinstall method, delete the su related files:
http://androidforums.com/atrix-4g-all-things-root/423259-best-way-unroot.html
It may be as simple as only removing su from /system/bin and uninstalling superuser.apk, but doing a full unroot is the safest way IMO.
I just updated today. ATT 2.3.4 with locked Bootloader, rooted with the one click method. When I went to use the one click method to unroot I received an error message saying that I didn't have the proper back up files.
After much searching on-line, I installed OTA RootKeeper and ran it to make my Atrix look like it hadn't been rooted. After the update I ran OTA RootKeeper again to restore root.
I've restarted my phone 3 or 4 times in the last 4 hours and so far all is well!

OTA Rootkeeper is good only if you used a root method that uses the zergrush exploit. Most of the one click methods use it. I however, used a method that edited build.prop. I used OTA Rootkeeper, updated, and it failed to properly restore root. Others that used a root tool that uses zergrush had no problem restoring with OTA Rootkeeper.
I just got an update for Superuser from Google Play, v3.1(42), released today. In the changelog, Temp Unroot and OTA survival options have been added. I think this might be useful for those of us who are rooted when getting the OTA update. I plan on trying it out.
I don't have a third party "root keeper" type application installed, is there any possibility that this is just as good?

Yeah, Superuser has to compete with SuperSu, that's why those new features are in there, SuperSu has them. And yes, OTA survival works better than Voodo Roor Keeper.

I wonder which might be better, voodoo root keeper or this? If there's even a difference.

The OTA survival on SuperSu and Superuser are slightly better than Voodo, as they automate some processes of regaining root, but it's the same concept.

i didnt even bother to look at the change log, i should have, im glad it is built in so now i dont have to use a third party.
Has anyone tested this on their AT&T S3? I'm rooted with stock recovery.

I am actually wondering if this works as well. Would be nice to unroot, get the update and reroot without having to redo everything ie home screen settings etc

I can't speak to other devices, but for my Transformer Infinity and Droid 4, Superuser's OTA Survival did nothing for me, and Voodoo worked perfectly.
if you have superuser in the system\app directory then you cant use the unroot as it needs to be in the \data\app directory for it to work. I tried it with both sueruser and supersu and each would only unroot if the superuser app was in the \data\app directory... i would move it their then reboot and do that... or just use the droid razr utility which will make it all stock.... best way really.
Actually, after searching around more, I think my problem may have been that the means of using the ota survival in superuser is spectacularly un-obvious and un-intuitive and nearly un-documented. I just tested using Voodo's temp unroot and then superuser to restore root and that worked.
For anyone else that finds Superuser's method confusing:
1) Before any update that might un-root your device, check the "ota survival" box in superuser
2) After an update that un-roots your device, open superuser and *uncheck* the "ota survival" box. This will restore your root and, for reasons that flabbergast me, REMOVE the backup, so ...
3) After restoring root, re-check the "ota survival" box
Compare this to Voodoo:
1) Create backup of su when rooted
2) When un-rooted, click "Restore Root"
Repeat just #2 when you get the next OTA
rooting after temp unroot
How do you root again after a temp unroot? unchecking the temp unroot doesnt work.. it does something, but afterwards the temp unroot is still checked. Also a phone restart doesnt help. Anyone else have this issue? (I'm on motorola defy+ with quarx jelly bean cyanogenmod)
temp unroot
No one can explain how to regain root over a SU temp unrooted phone?
ok, so im not a total newb when it comes to rooting but here is my question(s).
recently got the jellybean update on my t-mobile l9 and was wondering the simplest way to root it?
do i have to unlock the boot loader to root it??
all i really want to do is be able to remove some of the t-mobile bloatware.
please and thank you to all who help.
also ive briefly glanced at Lelus root/offline flashing method, is all that work needed to simply root the device??
if so, could someone link me to the EXACT files i would need, not the "look in this thread for your version"
(if i break the wifes phone, or lose here saved games, she will kick my butt lol)
my device is the following
tmobile
lg l9
p76920d
android version 4.1.2
I second this motion! And no one mentioned is the lelus root method will work with V20D
Sent from my LG-P769 using xda app-developers app
Lol, yes all of that is needed to root the device and as of right now, you have to have root before upgrading to jelly bean. So if you really wanted to root her device. you would have to flash 10g (ice cream) for her device (p769).
If all you want is to disable some bloatware trying going to apps in system setting and see if you can disable it.

You would need to downgrade to V10G using the Lelus method (which isnt hard at all just follow the directions carefully) and then root the phone. After that you could update to a rooted version of V20D ad then you would be set.Everything you need is in the Development forum.
i agree with grey use the V10G Method then use the CWM BackUp with radio flash through CWM Recovery by artas182x always remember to make a backup of data from your backup app and as well backup your sd card to the computer and please give thanks to the devs they have helped us alot in this development section and they deserve the credit if i have helped you can always give me thanks but the real credit goes to the devs and people that help our glorious community

I'm on p769 10g rooted and everything works. No CWM installed. Don't want to brick or damage it. Suddenly started getting system update messages but can't update because i need root. Is this the link for me to follow if i want to upgrade and root JB Root?

Just install voodoo OTA rootkeeper and open and press protect root. After that you can safely take OTA. Also if OTA fails you're not bricked, pull battery and it will boot back into ICS. The reason we can't directly root 20D is because we don't yet have the KDZ file from LG.

I protected root in voodoo, sys update restarted the phone, red triangle/some kind of error and then phone restarted by itself back to normal.
I wish they come on the bloat is so massive

Then you have 2 options to go from here (or 3? I guess). Either use the offline flasher to flash 10g again(use the lelus root method so you don't lose root.) this should make everything default and OTA should go thru. Afterwards don't forget to do voodoo again. Or install CWM and update with one of the clean rooted backups available. @artas182x CWM for locked bootloader works great. I know you said you don't wanna mess around with CWM but there is very little risk involved, just be sure to backup your current rom first. If you backup all your apps and app data in titanium beforehand you can restore them back to the clean JB after all is said and done. I'd personally go the CWM route as it is much faster.

i'm on 10g rooted with voodoo now. Flash 10g again?
CWM i didn't install because wasn't sure if 100% working or still buggy for p769. CWM is a better option. Backup is not critical. I had trouble restoring with titanium before so i don't mind reinstalling apps. Updating to JB is not critical either unless it brings some improvement in speed/ram management. Update notification was incessantly bugging me every 5 minutes that's why i wanted to get rid of it but its no longer a problem. Disappeared. Will i be able to CWM a rooted/unlocked bl JB for p769 eventually or should i do the rooted JB now and wait until bl can be unlocked in the future? Or, possibly new rooted unlocked bl roms in the future?
All,
I upgraded to 4.3 Cyanogenmod unofficial ROM about 2 weeks ago and have been enjoying it ever since. I attempted to use OTA Vodoo rootkeeper to fool Sky Go into working which didn't work. Then I noticed that my root was disabled. I had managed to force it to work by enabling Apps and ADB. Whilst playing around in OTA rootkeeper I accidentally deleted su backup, but I did then press unroot and backup immediately after. My question is how can I restor root access ? Am I going to have to use Odin ? Annoyingly according to the OTA rootkeeper I have root access but Rootchecker Basic says I don't. Any suggestions ?
