Flash ftf using Flashtool
Once u have the ftf file and flashtool
Install flashtool in any drive lets say c drive
Go to c / flashtool / firmware
In the firmware folder place ftf file
Now go to c / flashtool / driver
And install driver for xperia sola
Now open flashtool
( make sure ur device is off and not connected to ur pc)
Click on thunder icon
Select flashmode
Select ftf file
Check on exclude ta
Also check no final verification
Now click flash
Flashtool will ask u to Connect phone
Now pick up ur SWITCHED OFF phone, press the VOLUME DOWN button... Keep the volume down button pressed.. And connect the usb to ur phone
Flashing will start ( once flashing starts leave the volume down button) and let it finish

Did you connect it in flash mode?
How to Enter Flashmode:
1. Shutdown Phone
2. Press Volume-Down Button
3. Plug in USB Cable in the Xperia U
4. Plug in USB Cable in your PC
If the Illumination Bar gets Green you are right into Flashmode

Bro just remove ur battery
And reinsert it
And then u can follow the steps given in second post by maazdraco
Until u perform those steps u will have only a red led
Btw
Remove battery and reinsert
Then keep volume down button pressed and connect it usb
And let me know if there is a green light or not
I did that. Removed the battery, did wait for few seconds, reinserted it. Still have only red led on top, no illumination bar light. and flashtool does not detect the phone. I also tried to flash with battery removed.

Bro when u reinsert the battery
Dun try to swtich it on
Just try connecting it to pc wid volume down button pressed
you could do what i do with old Sony Ericsson devices like K800i/K770i/W850i. But i cannot tell you if it works and i dont tell it is safe thing. Connect your battery to phone inverted mode - i mean + pole in battery to the - pole in phone and - pole in battery to the + pole in phone. Connect this for a couple of seconds. It should reset chips on mainboard. After that connect XU to computer.
hmm
i think you have to download the latest flashtool and install the xperia U drivers
Phone must go to flashmode without drivers on PC. If not, go to repair centre
you have unlocked bootloader?

In flashtool select the Rom you want to flash
Remove battery
Insert USB cable
When software asks you to press back, hold back while putting battery back in, should go straight to flash mode and flash

when you go to flashmode by pressing volume - button then insert usb cable
the led will turn green
and you might have to use flashtool to recover
First attach usb while holding volume button up (blue led should light up), you should get a prompt for drivers installation.
Then do the same while holding volume button down. Disconnect, then reconnect holding volume down again, if pc companion still doesn't recognize the device download flashtools and the .ftf file for your device from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568792, and use that to repair the phone

Now there is a trick to revive it..
Tested by me!!!
Dont skip this step:-
"Charge battery full and shut device down by pressing volume + and power key untill phone vibrates 3 times"
(despite your device bricked cause when u charge or hit power button there is a supply and your device hasn't shut completely)
"Don't connect the phone to desktop until the point no 3-4 below"
1)Open flashtool
2)select the files for flashing
3)when the Popup hits your screen to connect your device in flash mode wait for it to repeat 2-3 times and then connect it asap
4) you will see the device detected and flashing starts the green led goes red for flashing mode
The timing should be spot on!!! If you can't get in one go try a couple of times...

the lines in blu appear before i connected the device, is a proble of flashtools or the device?
ps. i fastboot the device and it works( i have installed a kernel and no errors).
PPS. problem solved after unistalling "bluestacks". now try to flash firmware
While updating a new Xperia U to ICS the PCC had an error while flashing the new firmware. Now the screen lights up, the sony logo is shown for ~3-5 seconds and then it reboots.
After that I have been unable to get it recognized again by either PCC/SUS or flash tool.
I also checked my log files in Linux and no device appears.
I've tried 3 different machines (2x Windows 8, 1x Win 7), multiple USB ports. Also leaving the battery out for ~30 mins didn't change the behavior.
The green light for download mode comes on, but after about 5 seconds the light goes out and it goes into the boot loop again.
So by now I believe the device needs to be sent in, but maybe some one has a few more things I can try.
Try pressing the volume down plus volume up plus power button all 3 simultaneously till u feel 3 vibrations

Can you make sure the Flashtool drivers are installed ? Go to Flashtool Directory, open drivers directory and start the setup.. Make sure to select the Flashmode and Fastboot drivers are also selected. Then, reboot System and folow this order.
Startt flashtool, select f/w, wait for Flashtool to tell you to connect to device. Then, holding the Volume down button (while phone is switched off), plug the cable into phone (The usb cable must already be connected to PC before starting the Flash Procedure )
The Order is very important.. I had same issue with U (althoguh mine crashed with Flashtool and same as what you observed. When I followed this order, I was able to get it detected and flashed )
Hopefully, you wont need to return to Service Center

I tried that right now, Flashmode and Fastboot drivers are installed. Flash tool is ready, device is plugged in with volume down pressed, green light comes on. Nothing is found on the PC, after about 5 seconds the green light turns off and the phone shows the sony logo. Green light also comes on if i simply plug in the usb without volume down pressed. So I'm thinking, the download mode has some how been corrupted?

After several tries (a lot of...) I manage to enter flashmode and SUS is now reinstalling sony ROM.
Honestly I don´t know how it works this time and not the others but i'm happy with it independently of what happens.
... seems flashtool is detecting ur phone try to flash first the stock kernel and do not wipe everything it shud be in timing though.. onces it is flash charge ur phone in kernel mode (phone is off) then you can flash the stock fw of ur XU.

No worries. The phone turns off because it doesn't receive any signal from the PC - many people make the mistake of connecting the device in flashmode first, and then they start the flashtool etc.
Instead, load the flashtool first, go to flashmode, select a complete/full stock ftf for your phone (whichever version you want, but do double check if the ftf has kernel.sin file in it) and press the flash button. Only once you get the pop up with the animation telling you to connect the phone in flash mode, connect the phone in flashmode (volume - button pressed when connecting cable). As soon as you connect the phone, the flashtool will start its magic and your phone won't turn off.
if you can go in cwm wipe system then you will only be stuck on sony logo then use this guide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPPWRXcsz7g.....it will work because this same happened to me and i fixed it with this method!

the flashtool popup was a window that asks you which phones drivers to use...in this case, because the XGO isnt listed there you choose the U,Sola,P drivers. Why would you click cancel? I think you didnt know what you were doing there..........
Take the battery out.
Leave for a few seconds.
Hold down vol down
Insert battery, keep vol down pressed
Quickly jam the USB cable in.
You should get back into Flashboot.

Use the latest version of flash tool. Install the drivers from flashtool/drivers. had the same problem for me too. use the power vol up key combinations to restart (hold till a vibration) or completely power off (hold till a vibration followed by 3 continuous vibrations).
this solve my problem! using latest flashtool has the driver for xperia go! thanks!
