Like bigandrewgold said. Kernel and modules. When you flashed viper it has the modules for dsbsrw kernel, so you need to flash the modules for lk's kernel

If you want to use lk kernel then flash the ROM. Then flash the boot.img in flash image GUI. Than go back to recovery and flash the modules for lk kernel.

So I have been using ICS Crumble which it has it's own kernal. And Now I want to use a different rom that uses a different kernal. How would I do this safely?
If it is a CM9 ROM from the development forum then you can just flash it. The kernel will be replaced automatically

But wouldn't that cause boot looping if i use odin since after I'm done it'll reboot? Or should I just use
Recovery to put them both? If so should I do the kernal first?

Which ROM are you trying to flash? If it is Odin flash able then it will just replace the kernel you currently have. You will only have issues if you flash a ROM without an inbuilt kernel

Im trying to flash a kernel from faux the latest one but from my understanding I have to have a custom kernel so do I have to get a new Rom I'm on stock ics soff unlocked n rooted ?
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium
just download the kernel zip, go to recovery and flash it as you would a rom. You do not need a custom kernel or another rom
I downloaded it like 3 times n I did do that n nothing
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium
did you do anything to check if the kernel flashed right? get "no frills cpu" from the market and check if it lets you go above 1.5ghz
Are you also sure that you downloaded the ICS Kernel and not the GB one?
When its about to install or before install it say faux ics kernel so I know for sure its version 007

Yes it does n why does that matter ? Don't mean to sound rude lol

I'm having issues with my WiFi trying to inniate and the finally says error.....I'm currently on viper Rom and have the boot.img a few times with no luck. I've also used the stock kernal modules and my phone still has this problem...I've seen a few threads about WiFi and have explored the resolutions but they do not work for me nor do the situations in those threads match my phones symptoms.....any guidance would be much appreciated......

Did you flash the kernel modules in recovery after installing the kernel?
Yes and I have done the boot img first and then modules and reversed process as well but still showing error
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Go to a kernels thread.
Download the zip
Extract the zip.
Flash the boot.img
Flash the modules.zip
You how have working WiFi.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
What version of Viper are you using?
I had the same problem and extracted the boot.img from the viperDNA_1.1.0.zip (might have been a bad download unsure I didn't check the md5)
I also did a factory reset and wiped cache in recovery and aroma. Version 1.1.0 doesn't like a dirty flash.
The same thing is happening to me
This is the first android phone, so I do not have much experience in custom ROMs and that sort. A friend of mine led me through making a backup of my phone and I flashed the newest version of Viper, and thought everything was okay until I noticed that the WiFi wouldn't turn on. I then restarted the phone, reflashed the ROM, and then flashed another ROM. Every single time the WiFi wouldn't work. I finally gave up and restored to the backup that I made, and my WiFi works with it. Any suggestions on how to get Viper installed with working WiFi? I really enjoyed it.

Hey all,
I started messing around with the stock rom I got from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2080200
Pretty much all I did was pull some apk's from system/app and now after booting, my screen will occasionally flicker.
I did some digging on the forums here, and the only work around I could find is to disable hw overlay.
Is there a fix for this? Anyone else have this problem?
Thanks
Sounds like your using an old kernel on that updated rom. If you are going to use a 2.04 rom you have to use the stock 2.04 kernel.
