Alright, here I go.
Yes, I searched the forum, and I can't wrap my head around this at all, so I'm just going to throw my specs out and hope for the best.
- T-mobile Samsung Vibrant Galaxy S T-959
- NOT unlocked...although I'm not sure, the phone seems to try and pick up AT&T but it's labeled as a Tmobile phone
- Using a Tmobile SIM (brand new replacement, works on other phones just fine)
- Rooted and Flashed to Hellybean Stable 15.11.12
- Generic IMEI (004999010640000)
Whenever I rebooted the phone after root/flash a week and a half ago, it would give me the IMEI mismatch warning but everything worked fine. It was only this afternoon that I jumped on the bus, took out my phone, and suddenly could not connect to any mobile network at all. I've restarted and cried and sat in a corner and now I don't know. It connects to Wifi just fine and that's how I've been getting by, but it'd be nice to text/sms again...
I kept running into this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30644270&postcount=116
But it makes no sense to me. Copy it to what folder? Where is /efs? I only have one /efs folder and it's in /sdcard/backup.
Before I return to stock and try to flash all over again, I want to try and fix this.
The same thing happened to me today!
I don't know what is going on. I flashed another modem but the problem is not solved.
I'll try Odin back to stock but it is not seeing my phone. That's another problem anyway.
I'll let you know if I get it to work.
Ok, it works now, but I still don't know if it was the generic IMEI or something else.
I went back to stock and it automatically connected so I could make calls and use internet. This also restored my IMEI
Then I rooted and installed CM7 and then Slim Bean and now everything works as usual with my restored IMEI.
Here you have all you need for Odin: http://www.team-passion.com/index.php/wiki/general/15-how-to-use-odin-for-vibrant

Ahh shucks. Don't want to hijack your thread, but now my Vibrant is having connection problems too :crying:
It all happened when I let a friend borrow my phone to use his SIM card. It was a simple mobile SIM card and a day later when I tried to make a call, I got a "not registered on network" when I tried to make a call.
I was running bionix-v fishman so I odined back to stock to make sure it wasnt a ROM issue, and still have the same problems.
I still have a IMEI working and I can still get bars, but cant make any calls whatsoever. Not even emergency calls.
So back to my very old Motorola Backflip. But I can't seem to wonder how this happened when my friend used his sim card. So I know the problem is not my SIM card because it works on my older phone.
I'm still using the very old full SIM-card that is at least 2-years old and not the newer ones. Because my friend's SIM was brand new, you think that may have to do its the problem?
Any help appreciated. Heres a similar thread to my problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=890353
Okay, this went from bad to worse to a nightmare.
My friend tried the Odin then back to Hellybean for me, and nothing changed at all.
So I went into recovery mode and tried to restore from an old system restore point.
After loading that my phone was permanently stuck on the Vibrant SAMSUNG screen.
I hunted around and found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15330252
After a few tries I managed to get it into download mode and tried it, nothing changed.
Except now that I've moved on and tried to use Odin to just unroot it won't even go into recovery or download mode, it gets stuck on this screen:
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BDDLnUcCMAEqvkQ.jpg
or just the Vibrant start screen.

OK I'm going to use ur thread. I rooted my sgs1 seven hours after I got it. When it was a new phone. Have been running all kinds of roms. Somewhere along the line I lost my backup. But it was never really a problem. My imei is generic and couldn't make 911 calls but no worries there. I was running 4.2.2 something something using my phone. Then my battery was running low so I switched it with another and when it booted up no signal from that point on. I put my sim in my old g1 and it works. Put my wife's sim in my phone and a no go. Everything works wifi Bluetooth usb .....except won't connect to t mobile. I Odin back to stock and no luck. Imei still generic. Called tmobile no help at all. Funny thing is though it won't let me connect it shows I have a voicemail so its sending a signal and receiving one. I think if I had a way to put a new imei on it I would be OK. Another funny thing is my imei is the same number as the one posted above. So thinking it got picked up and blocked and that's why i m not getting service. I love this phone and would like to fix it if I can.does anyone have any ideas.

Hi all in desperate need of help. i had a problem with my hero in that the keyboard no longer appear to allow text input so i flashed my phone. since then my phone will not connect to mobile internet. i have tried flashing diff radios and roms + changed apn settings but am getting nowhere! it worked before and have no idea why it doesnt now please help
What type of ROM do you use?
Stock or Custom?
If you use a custom rom, which one?
hey matey, thanks for the response; i am happy to say the problem is solved and that it was a strange one.
I thought for the hell of it that i would try my partners sim in my phone since she is also on three and because everything on the phone was working except for mobile internet. pop it in and all of a sudden everything worked - put my sim back in and it was still broken. went to the three shop today got a new replacement sim and bang everything is back up and running once again.
In summary my Sim was defective in some way - dont ask me how a replacement solved the problem.
Alright, good for you
Hello all,
I have had no data connection in the last few days. solid signal, but no data. i have done almost everything i can do and still the same result. switched back to Rev.A and i can get 3g "ok", not sure whats up. Any suggestions? I also reflashed the Mr2 radio and no change.
Another thought is my SIM card might have taken a dump. Id be willing to take it into verizon and get a new sim but dont want to unroot, revert to stock. got way to much going on with my phone to just start from scratch again : ( just so i can "try" if a new SIM would work. what would happen if i took my rooted thunderbolt into a verizon store for a new SIM card?. Would they Deny me service?or put a note on my account stating i have rooted and voided my warranty?. Just curious as to what would happen. they would deffidently notice right off the bat because of my sense 3.0 rom, kernal, gingerbread, signal icons, lock ring, signal bars, spash screen, boot animation and sound, etc...
need help guys! thanks in advance! : )
Well I know you said you don't want to but just make a nandroid backup before you unroot and stick it on your pc for safe keeping. Then when you are re-rooted just wipe everything and restore the backup and you are EXACTLY where you were before. Plus with Revolutionary re-rooting takes all of 5-10 minutes.

Talk to the guys there. Get a feel for them... The guys at the shops near me couldn't care less about a rooted device. As long as the software isn't the issue, which a bum SIM shouldn't be, they shouldn't really care. I'd feel them out a bit before assuming unrooting is a must. You might get lucky.
I will send this thread up. This is exactly the problem I am experiencing. The Thunderbolt has perfectly good network signal but data connection is not working. It complains about "SIM card not found" when entering the Settings and APNs. The SIM card is detected by the device otherwise, it's possible to save contacts to it and retrieve them. But 4G data is completely dead.
I visited a VZW store yesterday and received a new SIM card but the problem is still there. I have also tried to reflash to the latest leaked radio without any solution.
The ROM used is the latest Synergy Nightly.
I begin to consider the possibility of restoring the Thunderbolt back to stock and get a replacement but it would be good if this problem can be solved.

Hello all,
To put my issue simply, I am receiving the "Not registered on network" error on my phone. I have tried many things to resolve it and to help narrow down the possible problems, I will explain my situation and what steps I have taken to try to resolve it. I appreciate you taking the time to read my detailed explanation in advance, as I wish to be as clear and informative as possible.
My phone is an unlocked Australian Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300). I bought it about 6 months ago and about two months ago had some issues with the display come out of the blue. I was able to get this issue resolved through my warranty. When I received the phone back though, I thought it was all working fine but then I noticed I couldn't send SMSs or make calls as my phone wouldn't connect to my phone network (Vodafone). I tried reboots, hard reboots, restoring backups, using a different SIM card (from a different carrier) and I still couldn't get it to work.
During this process of trying to fix it myself, I rooted the phone. So when I realised I couldn't fix it and it could possibly be a hardware issue, I sent it back to be fixed under warranty. Unfortunately my warranty was voided when I rooted the phone, even though it was broken before I rooted it.
So a few days ago I received my phone back again and spent about 6 hours trying to fix it. Here's what I tried...
I tried to flash the latest Australian firmware (XSA) which is the same as the one I initially had when I purchased the phone. I tried factory resets, different firmware flashes, custom ROMs, different modems etc. None of this worked. I thought I had found my solution when I stumbled across ARIZA's patch, but event this did not solve my problem.
The really strange thing is I can occasionally connect to the network and if I try repeatedly, I can sometimes get an SMS to send. I've checked my SIM is clean (I've tried another SIM anyway) and everything seems fine.
My IMEI number is still intact and isn't blacklisted. I've tried restoring backups from when it was working (before I got it "fixed" the first time) and that's not worked. The current status of my phone is:
ROM: Omega v5.0
Version: 4.2.2
Baseband: I9300XELLA
Network: vodafone AU (sometimes shows as Unknown)
Mobile Network State showing as "Disconnected", except in rare moments
IMEI and Serial intact
I've tried all I can think of and all the suggestions I can find on the Internet. I'm hoping someone here will have some suggestions for things I can try. I'd really like to fix this issue as I've been without my phone for months. I'm thinking it could be a hardware issue, but want to make sure I've exhausted all options I can try myself first before trying to get a place to repair it. As my warranty is void, I'm not sure how easy this will be.
Thanks in advance for your time and suggestions,
Jay.

Return to a stock rom and use triangle away to reset the counter, retry with your provider, they may let it slide that you've previously tried.
It would appear that you've already tried everything.
Return to stock and update via OTA, remove root, remember to use triangle away, I personally haven't had to do it but i would imagine that it needs root privileges to complete so thinking about it i would say to use triangle away first.
Hope you get it sorted.

Hey,
Thanks for the quick response.
I doubt they would let it slide as I had a pretty long back and forth with them trying to get them to fix the phone or at least send it back to me without charging me for the shipping costs and that didn't end in my favour. I'm sure they'd remember that they already rejected it due to it being modified and would just blame the rooting for the issues.
I'm thinking I might just reset it all to stock, reset the counter and at least ask. If not, I'll try to find a repair shop who will take a look. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm still open to any other ideas people might have which I can try from my end.
Thanks,
Jay.
Starting point would be correct firmware modem and CSC for your location and network .
Flash your original rom .

Hey,
Thanks for the suggestion. I believe I have tried this by downloading the latest firmware from SamMobile and flashing that through Odin, but I haven't tried it through Keis, so I guess I'll give that a go.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks,
Jay.
Me too. I've an i9305 (S3 LTE) and i've tried every tutorials on internet and so far nothing: always the same issue "not registered on network". In case you solve the issue please let me know. I'll do the same. Txs
I've tried to connect my phone using Keis and it just seems to say "Connecting..." forever. I've tried running the connection troubleshooter and that just seemed to re-install the drivers but not actually fix the issue. I still can't get Keis to even connect to my phone.
Any ideas on why this would be? Or other suggestions I can try for my initial problem?
Thanks,
Jay.
As an update to this, it seems I've tried everything I can on my end to fix it to no avail. I believe it must be a hardware issue and have dropped it into a phone repair centre. I'm hoping they will be able to find the problem and fix it.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Another update to this, I received a response from the repair centre. They said:
"...we took it all apart and checked all connections and serviced it.
Once we put it back together we tested it with Vodafone and Optus sim cards. Both sims had service and were able to connect to the internet as well."
After I asked for more details on what they did to try and help me determine what the problem was, they said:
"The phone looked 100% fine inside, no signs of water or any other damage. Sometimes electronic devices can be a bit temperamental, maybe the fact that we undone and cleaned all connections it's booted it back to life."
So I'm going to pick it up tomorrow, but it sounds like it's all sorted now. So not it's not 100% clear what the issue was, but to anyone having this same problem who has tried everything like I did, it is likely a hardware issue. Your best bet is probably to try a repair shop (assuming your warranty won't cover the problem).
Thanks to those who offered suggestions and good luck to those with the same problem.
Do please tell us if it worked because i'm tempted to do the same as you did before selling it on ebay as faulty for parts. PLEASE ANSWER US BACK AFTER TESTING IT an entire day. THANK YOU A LOT!
Does it work properly now? Thanks - Please reply.
Not sure if it is exactly the same problem but I remember getting that msg when i was on Telstra and I'd installed a new ROM - I went to the Telstra site and got them to send an activation msg that reset my provider info. It didn't seem to matter for phone calls but I wasn't getting any connection to do with data until I 'ran' the msg they sent.

Txs for help but I don't have the backups of my efs folder... so I think it is useless therefore i am going to sell it on ebay as faulty for parts. Unfortunately! I love my i9305!
You should probably do some more searching on site - there are a number of things to do, including getting a service centre to fix it. Be cheaper than a new phone. Is it an i9300 or ann i9305?

It's a i9305 and I've tried everything, every tutorials on internet without success so far. I am tired of the situation and also very disappointed therefore I think i will sell it as faulty. As it regards to a repair center, near my area it's very difficult to find someone who can fix it.
For me it seems my connection is still intermittent when using my Vodafone SIM on my S3 (and the same for another Vodafone SIM I tried on this phone) whereas both SIMs work fine on other phones.
I then tried a Telstra SIM on my S3 and it worked fine. So it seems I have a weird problem with my phone where the combination of the S3 and Vodafone doesn't work, but other phones or other SIMs do work.
I think I'm just going to try changing carrier (I've been meaning to anyway) since it seems their SIMs work in my phone.
Really not sure what is causing this issue, but I'm at the point where I just want it fixed and I don't really care how. Hope you find out how to solve your issue.
How is your phone right now? Im also having the same problem. It always say 'not registered to network' everytime i make a call. This happens whenever i turn on the flight mode, then turning it off.. i have a strong signal and i can use the internet provided by my network but i cant make a call or text.. people cant also reach my number. I sent this already to samsung service ctr and they changed the board but its still there whenever i access the flight mode..

Hi...the same, no solution so far. I am actually selling it on ebay for parts. I simply gave up.
Was just casually using my Amaze today with the official CM10 I've always had on it, and all of a sudden in the middle of a call the call dropped and the phone restarted. I thought it was just a random reboot as they are nightly builds. After it restarted there all of a sudden was no signal. I was a bit confused as just a minute ago before I started the call I was getting full bars on 4G. I tried rebooting multiple times, changing SIM's (the phone is unlocked), even trying different ROMs. All of them had the same problem. No cellular signal. I tried the *#*#4636#*#* to set the network to WCDMA, however it was always stuck on "unknown". No matter what I changed it too it would always reset back to unknown. Then I finally thought I had to resort to an RUU.
After reflashing the Mobilicity RUU (stock one that came with the phone) on gingerbread, the signal FINALLY worked! I was so relieved and went to download the ICS OTA update so I can start flashing ROM's again. Then all of a sudden in the middle of the update the phone restarted, and when it booted back up again, no signal again. I then went to check for software updates again and just wanted to try downloading it over WiFi. I accidentally clicked the phone info screen instead of software updates and I noticed that the IMEI, IMEI SV, Phone Number and IMSI were all "Unknown". This was really odd. *#06* also brought up an empty IMEI box. Then I clicked software update and it said there were no updates available. What? It just worked a while ago before the signal broke again!
I then pulled the SIM out to run the phone WiFi only until I could figure this out and I noticed that it wouldn't say "No SIM" with no SIM card inserted like it normally would, but would continue to say "No Service" as if there was a SIM but there was just no reception in the area.
I've been trying all day to flash multiple RUU's and the only one that fixes the problem is reflashing factory Mobilicity GB RUU. Then signal works again, however after any restart signal will break again and won't work anymore until another RUU reflash. Is there anything I can do? This is the only phone I have to use and it's driving me nuts! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Please acknowledge that I am not asking for a way to obtain or change my IMEI, as I know that is not allowed. I am asking for a way to fix the No Service issue I've been having.
HTC Amaze: Mobilicity 4G
ROM: Stock 2.3.4 at this point
Software number: 1.45.1800.2
Stock HBOOT, S-OFF, SuperCID
Now another thing has arises. I try to use it as an iPod/Media player now and just use it connected to WiFi. However the battery dies after about 5 hours of just standby, untouched. It's all because of "Cell Standby" using up battery. It uses up 4 and a half hours of battery and 100% of the time it's without signal. However, even if airplane mode is turned on to disable the cellular radio, it doesn't make any difference to Cell Standby.

I have had this issue twice ... first time it happened maybe 9 months ago and stayed like that for 3 weeks with me constantly flashing and wiping and s-offing no no avail ... one day I pulled out my sim and memory card and when I switched on the device it says "no simcard" it never said that b4 so I switched it off and put back in the sim card and memory card and poof it was suddenly working again...
The first time I recalled not installing anything for months before that event other than one app..... "What's App" I installed what's app and used it fine for 2 weeks and the phone just dropped in the middle of a call and never regained signal.... so I said since that was the only app that I had installed its probably the culprit, so I will never use it again since the phone started working again.
Sadly 7 months later a girl i was talking to kept insisting that I install whats app because she wants to chat more... Against my better judgement I went ahead and did it and it worked for 2 weeks and one morning .... poof "no service" no imei .... and the culprit .....?
WHATS APP!!! sadly I have been in this state for a month now with no sign of it fixing itself again... thank you whatsapp... let me know if whatsapp was installed prior to your loss of imei

Actually my Amaze started working again as well! One day around two weeks back all of a sudden it decided to start working again, but I just left it there as I had already bought an Xperia ion to replace it. One day my friend asked if he could borrow it for a week or so, I let him and when I popped his sim in it worked, checked imei, apns, everything was good. However later that day during the lunch hour he took it out and told me there was no signal. First thing I did obviously was check the imei and of course, it had disappeared again. Nothing in window when typing #*06# and in settings imei would say "unknown"
I never used whatsapp before and he doesn't use whatsapp either, it's never been downloaded on the phone so it's not the problem for me. If I reflash GB RUU it will work again and imei will come back BUT only until you reboot, after reboot it will lose imei again. Honestly it seems to have a mind of it's own when it comes to working or not.
I'm Having the same issue right now anyone have any ideas?

Having the same problem too!
Tried removing the sd and sim, rebooting without, reinstalling them, rebooting with, and no luck.
I'm planning to flash the Debloated Stock rom to try that, then I'll try the latest RUU, will report back... (could be a few days)
Debloated stock did not work. Latest ICS RUU did not work. Original, very first, RUU didn't appear to work until I did a restart (without the Sim inserted).
So it's working for now, although it's Gingerbread...

Really? I've tried literally every RUU available for Amaze and still nothing. Before, after flashing a gingerbread RUU the IMEI would work during the first use but would break after restarting. Now when I do any RUU, IMEI won't work under any condition.
I picked up a bricked Verizon Note2 off someone on craigslist. I managed to unbrick it but the only way that i could was by flashing a stock rom without root. I tried earlier stock roms and so forth. Nothing stuck. So now it has stock 4.3 on it. The problem is apparently the efs folder is corrupted or files are missing or whatever, but I cannot connect to verizon network. In the settings the imei and meid is unknown, baseband is unknown, network is unknown, mobile network type is unknown, etc., etc.
I am really at a loss as to what to do. I have been pouring over xda and various other threads for the past few days and cannot seem to find a fix.
The good news 'might be' that I have my own Verizon GN2, which is also stock 4.3, but not rooted. So basically the same phone, except my GN2 has the ND3 build (i took the OTA update) and the borked phone has the MJ9 build.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what i can do to rebuild the efs folder or whatever it takes to get this phone to pick up the VZW network?
Naturally I do know what the iemi is because its under the battery.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Just an update if anyone cares... At one point I put the phone in airplane mode and when I tried to take it out of airplane mode it would freeze. Battery pull, rebooted and soft reset several times and it never came out of airplane mode. I called Samsung to report the airplane mode problem, not mentioning my initial issue at all, and after they took me through all of their steps of reboots and resets he decided that I should send it in and they will reflash all new software to it, and they were "really sorry" that this has happened to me. I pouted for about 2 seconds before printing out the mailing label.
Does anyone know what android version they typically send back? The most recent Verizon version or the original Verizon release version?

Thats what happens when you use CL
I knew it was bricked when I got it but in worse shape, that's why I only paid $80 for it, other than that it's in great condition. Sending it off to Samsung is the best I could have done to get back into working condition. Not a bad flip.
