Be glad you can't unroot. The rooted version of the official release will be posted shortly. No need to unroot.

Honestly surprised its not done now, when GB was released it was like 2 hours and we had a rooted version. That was back when we had like 12 devs tho, now we have 2-3.

To my knowledge, we only have one dev who is sorting out the new OTA.
Allow me to quote his exact words here...
"It's not just an RUU or a simple zip file that can be restructured, rooted and posted.
It has over 200+ patch files that have to be dealt with as well, all of which are encrypted.
Including the build.prop"
So with that being said, it will take a little bit. I know he's working as fast as he can.

Also GB was released as an ruu and this update is a set of encrypted patches. Big difference in the process necessary to make it usable.

All a conspiracy by VZW and HTC to piss off us Thunderbolt purchasers enough that we buy new phones!
Seriously tho, I am about to go crazy waiting for this release now for what, 7 months?

if you want to keep root id suggest you wait on the update till its prerooted other wise you will lose root for good untill an exploit is found in gb
Yes, but sbf can still be done to root again.
I'll bet GingerBreak works on it. I've rooted a dozen of phones all different makes and models and versions with that handy all in one program.

Every android device could be rooted, practically if you know mac, or linux its just typing su (super user, and i believe it might be sudo (superuser do)) does that answer the question, if not then yes
No word about MP3 or video recording issues, either that or I just read too fast and missed it
I think the OP's question was, can he update, or will he receive an update notice if his phone is rooted? I would like to know this as well.
Also, I am confused or not reading a clear answer, will this version be rootable? I think it is 2.3.3...Gingerbread.
I like root on my X2 too much to update right now if there is no root.
Thanks in advance for any clear answers and explanations.
I am so excited I am going to start my sbf now. If they are posting it on their website they have to be really close with it.

Gingerbreak used to work for rooting Gingerbread but they fixed the exploit in the latest versions. So right now there isn't any way to root. Your best bet is to wait for a custom rom to come out with Gingerbread pre-rooted.
You know guys and girls I'm wondering if we update to ICS before the permanent root is out. Is gonna be harder to achieve? Is gonna be easier? Or possible? What do you guys and girls think?

Well once s-off is achieved I'm pretty sure custom ICS ports will be available. Root shouldn't be too difficult I believe with S-off/unlocked boot loader.

I posted about this before. My opinion is S-Off/etc should be easier to achieve on ICS. Why, well with every new leap in Android there are always new holes to exploit. Look how many times the Xoom got updated in the first 7 months, 3 times. Isn't ICS already up to 4.1 on the nexus?

I can't see how one (ICS) has anything to do with the other (S-off). I mean unless HTC changes the bootloader and recovery partitions with the new version of the UI which by all rights shouldn't happen because it's still a lot of the same Android under the covers.

I wouldn't worry about that for a while. HTC is famous for promising upgrades and then slowly pushing them back. (correct me if I am wrong, but all I've heard out of HTC is beginning of 2012. With their history I don't expect it until at least the 2nd quarter of 2012.)
This phone will have S-Off and Cyanogenmod 9 long before HTC/Verizon push out an official ICS update.

The atrix is projected to get it a month or two before we do, so that's what were waiting for. What we need is for anyone on complete stock to use cheesecake to check the moto servers every couple of days as that is where we normally get leaked updates.

Im not entirely sure. I know that users of MOFs 2.3.5ish rom are unable to hit the server appropriately and that is as close to stock as possible (ie, no custom kernel, no unlock) except for being rooted. Then again, MOF could have made other changes im not aware of that could possible break the ability. I would say, if you are stock and rooted, try it. If that doesnt work, we know you must be completely stock.

That's where you have to be careful. Sometimes updates will download and want to automatically install.
There are a few threads here explaining how to download and extract the updates. I've never gone that far myself.
