Hey guys,
I just rooted and installed my first custom ROM for my GN2! (Jelly Bean build 7)
I gotta say rooting def. made my phone more efficient.
So far I am enjoying JB7 but I have a problem I really want to solve.
In my stock, before rooting, I was able to speak words to control my music player / alarm....
personally I really dont care about the music player but the alarm....
saying the word "STOP" in the morning to shut off my alarm is far better than fumbling through my desk looking for the phone while half asleep...
JB7 doesn't have this voice recognition for the alarm. Do you guys know a way to fix this?

You need S Voice. The app is in the Aroma Installer to flash with the rom. S Voice is what gives you voice commands for those functions.

Did you install s voice when selecting your aroma options. It's needed for the voice commands

Yes. I did install S Voice.
Is there something else I should've done other than installing S Voice?

While we're on the subject of jb7! I have a question about the Sd swap option. Does this option carry on to other roms? And if not( if I can figure out the mod) will everything stay intact and work like it does on jb7? Also when time comes to update to jb8 will I have to reactivate Sd swap in aroma?

I'm not sure how beans does it, but I believe it is a script so it would not survive gong from ROMs. There is a guide in the development section on how to do it on any ROM

for some reason my phone is reading my text i receive while im on a voice call. it just started doing it recently and i can not figure out how to stop it. please help
What kind of messaging apps do you have installed? Some will have the option to read them out loud to you.
Have you installed any text-to-voice apps? That could also be a culprit.

That 'll fix it.................
What rom are you on, isn't there a rom/app that utilizes Linda (womans voice) for a lot of things now? I hate to sound so vague, but I recalll a thread title in this regard.
I apologize beforehand for my noobiness. I wanted to post my question on the development forum but I wasn't allowed to because I'm completely new to xda. I tried to search the Cognition forum but I came up empty. I took a few hours to try to find the answer myself but to no avail.
I successfully rooted and installed Cognition X2 and modified it so that messages don't appear in the call log. When I use Navigation, it starts out fine, but after a few minutes, it starts saying, "XML version 1.0, [blah blah] h t t p:// [blah blah]," repeating itself for several minutes. Then it'll be back to normal for a few minutes before it starts spewing that whatever-it-is. I'm sorry I cant recall all of what it says but please don't hold it against me as I am driving when it happens.
Is there a not-too-complicated fix for this? Thanks!
edit: I should add that this doesn't happen when I just test it at home, i.e., I'm not actually moving or progressing through the turn-by-turn
I'm new to android as well, maybe wiping everything and reinstalling would help?
Are you using the Samsung speech engine? I have read that switching to pico or another 3rd party engine like svox fixes this problem... I use svox and have not run into this issue...

thanks but I'd like to avoid a drastic (and annoying) move like that which may or may not work unless I have to.

I'm pretty sure I've been using the preloaded Tico engine. Can't check right now because I don't have the phone around. If not, I'll try the switch.
There are two speech engines preloaded out of the box. Samsung and Pico. If I remember correctly, Samsung was the default when I first booted up... Give pico or Svox a shot and let us know how it goes..

+1. Try Svox. Its worked the best for me, personally.
Just tried it out and it seems to have gotten rid of the problem. Thanks. But damn, Pico sounds terrible! Guess I'll look into Svox. I wonder why I didn't see any threads about this when I searched. I was assuming it was an issue with the custom rom so I was probably being too specific with my search.
Also, forgive me for being lazy, but how do I do that signature thing that lists the devices I've used?
Yea, Pico sucks as far as the voice goes. Stephen Hawking sounds like Pavarotti compared to it...LOL. Avocados has some cheap voices that sound more natural...

Hi.
Anyone know how to do desktop shortcut to open two apps at same time?

Seems to be a good option, but I am not coder, I will can't use
its not that complicated. simply look up some tutorials or go to their website and see if you can find help there. youll need to do a little of the legwork yourself.
Hi
I also have the same question, i thought to smanager already.
All ok in making a simple sh with more linux commands... but how to call installed apps from the command line?
Thanks, bye.

Oops forgot how un informative his title is (kind of like missing function). For future reference though you can check the preview.
Anyways though is it either of the apps?

OK...so if you are interested. Here are the steps you need to do to enable the "OK Google" voice command to be used from any screen on your HTC One M8
1) First, from your Google Now homescreen, simply say “OK Google” to bring up the voice search window
2) Next Say say “OK Google Everywhere”. Google will display a search results page, simply click on a link (any link) ...this unlocks the settings you’ll need to adjust in the next section.
3) Next, go to Settings, Language and Keyboard, then select Voice Search.
4) Select “OK Google” detection, and check the boxes next to where you want to be able to search from the Google Search App from (any screen and even from the the lock screen).
5) Google will have you run through a quick training to teach it how you say “OK Google”
Thats it.I am still testing the effect on the battery but it doesn't seem too bad. Having the ability to use "ok Google" from the lock screen is a big time saver.
Enjoy!
Haven't noticed any significant battery driain. Has anyone else?
been using this for about a week now, seems to have no big affect on my battery..I love that saying ok google works even when the phone is off and charging

Oh no..I just asked given I am running ARHD and that rom has an issue with this as well, but the fix was as simple as removing the old search, and flashing a different one from recovery. I guess the apk was not in the right spot

Well by now the staged rollout should be completed...this may sound dumb but ....did you activate it? It doesnt happen by itself and needs to be enabled within the Google app itself

The two things you might check are that youre running at least Android version 4.4.2 (unfortunately this doesn't work on older versions of Android)....and second that you've updated your Googke search to version 3.5.14.
You shouldn't have any problems on rooted devices. I'm running a rooted stock rom with S-off and it works just fine.
This problem is killing me! I have a Nexus 7, 10 and a M8. OK Google anywhere is working on the 10, used to work on the 7 then inexplicably stopped and has never worked on the M8. I've tried everything, reflashed the ROM(s) cleared Google search, uninstalled it. Same with play services. It's really frustrating!
Everything's up to date. Once the trainer appeared when I enabled audio history but then the app crashed and it's never happened again. Totally stumped!
