Quick question to anyone I jus got a 64gig micro sd card from amazon.when it gets here do I jus pop dat thing an ill be good to go? Or do I gotta do anything special? Im on clean rom lite an jus a lil confused with some off the stuff im reading concerning micro sd cards?
For the best compatibility, you should reformat it to FAT32. AOSP and certain kernels do not support exFAT.

I have been running the powerwashed eh09 gb rom with tks kernal for a day now... I would tred lightly with the cm7,aosp gb roms....I read on rootzwiki some are still having sd cards fried.
I'm not sure about the fried sd-card on CM7 but CM7 has been working great for me and highly recommend it. Especially, with the nightlies.
I could never successfully run CM7 or any other MTD based rom. CWM would never mount my SD card and CM7 constantly told me my card was damaged.

Thanks for this reply because it seems everytime I warn folks about those roms, somebody will chime in how well it works for them. Which is perfectly fine but in reality its a crap shoot and cm7,aosp,miui may work for some, but fry others sd cards.
Just wondering, JJHunter, do you use the sdcard that came with the phone or did you buy a new one?

The SD card issue was due to a kernel change that was reverted. There is no SD card issue now.

Yes I know... but I still wont recomend those roms to new users for the simple fact they could easily flash the wrong version and bork a sd card.
Is there a mod out there that mounts the external, removable micro sim card as the internal sdcard, and the internal as the external? I have a 32gb class 10 SD card and at this point it is practically empty because all of my nandroids are on the internal SD. It would rock if someone could make this and inwoukd definitely donate to the person who is willing to help. It is getting annoying because I am already almost out of space on my internal SD. Thanks in advance

I'm not sure how to answer your original question but you can move nandroid backups to your external sd card and if you need it, move it back later.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
Yes i know that, but that takes too way too long and it is a pain in the ass. But thanks
what would possibly warrant posting this in the dev section?
I swear someone did this for the international. Or it may have been another phone I have but I know its been done. But even the Dec who wrote the script.to join the partitions said he wouldn't use it on a daily driver. I think it was just more a proof of concept

It can be done with CM7. There is a setting in there to swap the cards so that the internal will be emmc and external will be sdcard. Some people have accidently swapped them and didn't know how they did it or how to get it back to normal.

So i was searching the SGSII forums, and i was wondering what does these "ext4,ext3" do. I saw Ext4 on my friend's Galaxy Mini. Does this increase performance or something? Please explain
These refer to a partition on your sd card the numbers denote the type. Some rom's are not compatible with ext 3 or 4, standard is 2. You will want to make sure your rom is compatible, usually gingerbread supports 3 and ICS supports 4. This does aid in how smooth apps to sd is if you use it.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
Ext4 would be the quickest whereas some samsungs have a much slower rfs but it can be changed the ext4
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
Well i have Official ICS on my phone, will ext4 work? And where i can get it?
Will it increase the I/O performance or something?
Thanks for the answers btw
Well, you will have to format your sd card into the format you want...but usually your phone should auto format the sd card or internal that suits it best...for me, my ROM is based on ext4, so my whole internal memory is ext 4...but sd card is still in FAT 32..sd card usually work bests in FAT 32...which is safer and guaranteed to work for most phones...frankly speaking, I don't really feel the difference...but should be faster...

Hi guys,
Bought myself a OTG cable from ebay after watching some of the things you can do with it and I wanted to know what I need to format my hard drive and flash drives too to get it working, at the moment the S3 is not allowing me to access them.
Thanks in adcance

FAT32, which is the default for most flash thumb drives should work. You can get NTFS to work if you have one of the custom kernels available here on your phone.

Hmm, strange then.... I've been reading now that it should be exFat? I've no knowledge of any of these formats to be honest as I am not that technical minded.
My flash drive is Fat32 too so not sure why it won't work.....

Are you sure you got a working cable, I have the original one for the i9100 and all my flash drive and microsd with card reader works.
Now this is weird, just tried my flash drive again and it works! External HDD still not working though... Think I'll just reformat it to FAT32 again and see how I go, thanks for your help chaps..

Actually I haven't tried the HDD, will try it in a few hours and report back.
ExFat is also supported but people have reported bugs with it so if you don't need 4+gb large files, stick to fat32.

I got a 64g class 10 SD card for Xmas and want to move my apps to my SD. I've tried apps2sd from the play store (all of them) and it says something isn't supported or recognized (something along those lines). I did the mod with script manager swapping the internal and external storages which essentially gave me 60 gigs of internal and 10 gigs external but the gallery, camera and a few other things were sort of borked.
I was talking with a buddy that said apps2sd worked for him with his 32g class 10.
I have less then a gig of storage left on my internal just from apps (my music, pics etc are on my external).
Is this a 64g SD card thing or am I doing something wrong?

Your friend is lying, most likely. That or its not apps2sd.
Not that you need that anyway. You need something to move the associated data, like DirectoryBind. Moving little piddly apps under /data/app isn't going to do much for you.

Check out the mod under android development that swaps the internal storage with microSD, so essentially your 64gb sd would be swapped with your 16gb internal, and all apps would go to sd by themselves.

BIG DISCLAIMER: DID WORK AROUND REQUIRES A KERNEL WITH INIT.D SUPPORT. GO GET PERSEUS HERE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35458451

In this dropbox are two SD Card Swaps. One is for a card formatted in exFat and one for Fat32.
If you use TWRP you'll be fine with the exFat one because your card is most likely exFat already. If you want to use CWM go get a program that will format your SD card into Fat 32 and flash the Fat 32 zip.
NEXT DISCLAIMER: In the event that radios are leaked you may want to remove the swap before flashing. It will most likely screw something up. You can remove the swap by going into the etc folder, clicking on init.d and removing the file that is named similarly to the zip file

Really?
You are the second person to literally not read this thread.
The OP DOES NOT WANT TO DO THE CARD SWAP.
You even quoted a post from him saying why he didn't want to.
