hi,
i have htc amaze 4g from t-mobile. one day i fully drained the battery and kept it on charging. after charging i turned it on then it got stuck on "android 4g" screen. i tried recovery by wiping cache but no success. i contacted t-mobile they said i should try master reset but i dont wanna do that because i have very important data in the phone that i dont wanna loose. Please help to resolve this issue.
i am using this phone in india so i can not get t-mobile support by their service centers.
Edited:
When i go to recovery mode then i got "E:Failed to open loopdevice (No such file or directory)" this line is repeated several times.
and when i do "wipe data" then i got following:
Formatting /data...
E:Can't open /data/data/cwtemp/cwqkg.zip
/data/data/cwtemp/cw.prop and cw.crc
/data/cwpkg.zip
/data/cw.prop and cw.crc
/cache/cwpkg.zip
/cache/cw.prop and cw.crc
/cache/cwpkg_old.zip
/cache/cw_old.prop and cw_old.crc

Data wipe complete...

When you charged the phone, did the charging LED go to green, indicating full charge? If not, you may need to use an external charger to get the battery up to power. Or replace the battery.

Hello, I don't mean to sound like a noob here, but I am in need of some assistance. I just flashed SHOstock2 RC5 , did a wipe data/factory reset in CWM and dalvik-cache wipe before the flash. I booted up, decided I did not like it, so I went into CWM to restore from a backup. When I get into CWM and try to click any option, I get the message :
E:can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:can't open /cache/recovery/log/last_log
E:can't open /cache/recovery/log/last_log
I can not select ANY option without this message coming up. I searched around looking for a answer, but the best I could find is something about a eMMC chip being fried. Can anyone please help? I hope I didn't screw up my phone too bad. My phone is just sitting in CWM as I really dont know if I should turn it off, take out the battery ect... Thanks for the help!
you did a wipe data / factory reset.....
it wipes /cache partition
there is nothing wrong. restore your backup and move along
I usually just wipe cache and it goes away

dafuq? What the hell did you flash to cause an HTC logo on a Samsung device?
I can't think of any way to do this without hardbricking, unless you flashed some wacky firmware that put an HTC bootanimation file on a Samsung device.

must have done a google search for the error string.. his other "2" posts are on the sensation forum..
This was the closest thread I could find, so...
Every time I wipe data/factory reset, everything formats except for the last part.
"Error mounting /sdcard/ .android_secure!
Skipping format...

What does this mean? And should I be worried?

Easy fix if u can get into download mode and flash back to stock make sure to click reformat part ion of SD card ur partion is likely messed up and Android can recognize it this will fix it then just reroot and ur back at square one

Ok so I was in the process of putting a custom ROM on my Samsung SGH-T959D yesterday and the cord slipped out on my in the middle of the process.
Now I cannot get into "Download" mode, I can only get to Android Recovery Mode <3e>. The biggest issue I am getting is that the internal SD card is not mounted now and none of the options it gives will let me do anything.
Also, my phone is not being recognized by my computer so I can't use Odin. In a sense my computer does recognize it but only as a CD-Rom...
I have read numerous threads that say to push files from my pc to sd card but I am unsure as to how to do this with my PC not recognizing the phone as a mass storage.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. And yes I have tried multiple times to figure things out.
Phone Info
Telus Samsung SGH-T959D
GB 2.3.3 (What was on the phone anyway)
When running it registered a storage of 2GB and another of 13+ GB plus I can put my external sd card.
Android Recovery <3e>
-Reboot System Now
-Apply update from sdcard
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
E:failed to mount /data/fota (No such file or directory)
#MANUAL MODE#
If their is any other info that is needed please just ask and I will give you what I can as I will be keeping an eye on this thread.
I know this is a silly question but did you try a factory reset? Otherwise you could look into making/buying a download jig. Google it and all shall be answered. You can get one on ebay for cheap. Sorry I can't be of more help
I'd try a jig and push stock to the phone
</not an iPhone>
Just to update. I finally got the chance to order a Jig from ebay. Just waiting for it to be delivered.
Got phone into download mode via http://www.ebay.ca/itm/110798938624?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_3113wt_1185
Currently working on getting Firmware and that back onto phone. Just waiting for the modem to finish.

Reviving old post.
I think my battery is messed up because the phone will say 'fully charged' and as soon as i unplug it the battery drops to 80-88% and only lasts about 6 hrs with very minimal use.

I would flash a ROM and make sure you are at full battery when you do it (charge from an OFF state). Wipe batt stats when you flash it.
Sounds like you may have a bad flash, or could be that your battery is bad.

Where do i begin?
My phone has these random reboots every day, and random crashes during the weirdest times. Like im sending a text and all of the sudden it just reboots . Im not even running a kernel . I receive double text messages and my battery drains a lot. It's just crazy . Last thing it does is that it likes to be on 3G when 3G doesnt work with me somehow. I have to wait till it shows that 4G or H symbol to get data. anyways I know it's not the ROM cause it happens in every ROM i try. Its not the battery cause I've only had it for like 4 months. What is it? i do a full wipe every time i install a ROM too and Yes I am S-off for those of you who are wondering. Are there any fixes to any of my problems? it really pisses me off.
I would full wipe, reinstall Rom and see what happens. Back- up first!
Ok well i say try the unofficial cm10 latest version if u r on it already re installing with 4ext recovery do a full wipe, cache and dalvik wipe and then flash cm10 and jellybean gapps onto it battery life is better then many others and if not satisfied lower the cpu top speed...

No your problem was that you were probably never full wiping and that was causing the issues as your phone works perfectly fine after a full wipe (what the stock ruu does) and your battery can go bad after 4 months I went through 2 in 8 months

Following up here, regarding the AKOP-build from this morning, to keep the threads clean:
Also got stuck at the "initializing swagger" screen. When I flashed back to PA, I noticed an issue with "sd card" [the internal storage, not my external card]. Factory resets were throwing errors [failing] and there was no way to mount the storage. I ultimately reformatted and that cleared the issue. Before the formatting, I could not use my Alarm application [G-Alarm] nor could I view the Gallery. After the format, everything worked.
I'm S-ON, hboot 1.19. Komodo rls21.
Flash the akop build, booted all the way up had no data and acore error repeatedly

You completely wiped everything and flashed?
My guess is you also dirty flashed aokp over whatver you were running.
I tried the aokp build this morning and got stuck at boot ani. I wiped both caches, system, and factory reset 3 times before flashing. Just in case I missed something I did it all again with the same issue.

You should always format system when changing ROMs. The system partition is where the ROM is flashed to so not wiping that is bound to cause problems. I wipe everything except sdcards 3 times just to make sure.

Hi, i'm a new user of SG SII, and i don't know much about it. I was trying to install new ROM on it, first I tried to unroot my phone with CF ROOT, after that everthing was OK. Then i tried to install REVOLT JB i9100 ver 2.8.2, when i got by CWM in recovery, instead of clicking wipe data, then cache and ccache partition i did: wipe data/factory reset, and wipe cache partition, wipe dalwik cache and format system. I flashed kernel and during ROM installation phone turned off and did turn on. i think it's hard bricked. I don't know what to do, please help.
Are you still able to get into don't download mode o your phone ? ( volume down, home key, power button )
If so, reflash your kernel and go from there.
Also have a look at CyanogenMod, they have a good post with instructions on here.

no, phone doesn.t response on anything, even if i'm charging the battery.
Try removing your battery and unplug cables.
Then try download or recovery mode again.
If it really doesnt work then there is probably something fried on your system board, doubt anything you can do about it as i had the same not that long ago out of the blue.

Your battery was low when you tried to flash it, wasn't it?
try a jig first tho; there's something fishy about those wipes you mentioned.

On some occasions flashing a device can use 40-50% of battery to prep and flash device which is why its advised to never flash your phone unless you have at least 50-60% battery.
If power cuts out during flashing procedure it can damage nand/ic chip, corrupt bootloader, corrupt sdcards etc.
After leaving it plugged into to charger overnight try a USB jig to see if you can get it to wake up in download mode, If you can re-flash rom and go from there.

battery was about 70%, so it should not have turned off

then I was right with the fishy wipes.
pray for the jig.
From what you described, it couldn't have hard bricked your phone. In fact, it isn't easy to hard brick our phone unless you install that infamous ICS 4.0.4 leaked ROM or mess with flashing of PIT file. Try to use another fully charged battery to boot up or go into CWM recovery.

while i was installing new rom, process was like 0% for about 5 minutes, and then phone just turned off. When i did flashing and installing CWM everything was ok. I rooted it with CF root.
Exact same problem here. Followed the root guide to the letter and all OK. Set omega rom installing and it stayed at 0 for five mins then it shut off. Now no life at all.
Gonna build a jig tomorrow so I'll update here if it works.
Really hope so as it's a mates phone.
I've done my s3, s1 and the Mrs s2 without it going wrong so I'm not sure how it went wrong this time.

Your phone have got super brick, and the JIG nothing to do.... You must go to service.
The reason for this is stock kernel who has kode cause brick.
Sorry for my english!
Ah that's a shame. Fingers crossed it's still under warranty or it's gonna be an expensive month.
