Hello, I don't mean to sound like a noob here, but I am in need of some assistance. I just flashed SHOstock2 RC5 , did a wipe data/factory reset in CWM and dalvik-cache wipe before the flash. I booted up, decided I did not like it, so I went into CWM to restore from a backup. When I get into CWM and try to click any option, I get the message :
E:can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:can't open /cache/recovery/log/last_log
E:can't open /cache/recovery/log/last_log
I can not select ANY option without this message coming up. I searched around looking for a answer, but the best I could find is something about a eMMC chip being fried. Can anyone please help? I hope I didn't screw up my phone too bad. My phone is just sitting in CWM as I really dont know if I should turn it off, take out the battery ect... Thanks for the help!
you did a wipe data / factory reset.....
it wipes /cache partition
there is nothing wrong. restore your backup and move along
I usually just wipe cache and it goes away

dafuq? What the hell did you flash to cause an HTC logo on a Samsung device?
I can't think of any way to do this without hardbricking, unless you flashed some wacky firmware that put an HTC bootanimation file on a Samsung device.

must have done a google search for the error string.. his other "2" posts are on the sensation forum..
This was the closest thread I could find, so...
Every time I wipe data/factory reset, everything formats except for the last part.
"Error mounting /sdcard/ .android_secure!
Skipping format...
Data wipe complete"
What does this mean? And should I be worried?

I'm having the same E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log problem. I've rebooted countless times but the error is still there. What can I do to fix this?
Wipe cache always gets rid of the error for me. See if it works for you.

Easy fix if u can get into download mode and flash back to stock make sure to click reformat part ion of SD card ur partion is likely messed up and Android can recognize it this will fix it then just reroot and ur back at square one

Except in order to get another cwm on this device you need to flash a whole new kernel.

Don't wipe. Can you reboot into recovery? If so restore a previous rom or nandroid. You shouldn't lose anything. Above All don't panic.

I am not trying to be a smarta$$, but your post says that you are clicking reboot recovery. What about just reboot? Could also wipe /cache and then advanced/wipe dalvik-cache, then reboot.
If you have adb then you can reboot that way too.
Btw, what ROM are you on?

I think i know what rom is on it? is there a way to find out without being able to boot? and to reflash just install on sd, wipe dalvik and apply sdcard:update.zip or install zip from sdcard?

reboot just locks up at splash screen and clearing the cache and dalvik wont delete files correct? also the cache we talk about is the wipe cache partition?
Wiping /cache and /dalvik won't delete any data so no worries about that. Wipe them both and then reboot. It will take up to 3-5minutes to rebuild the caches.
I kind of need to know what ROM you are/were on to figure out where to go. Once you answer that and try the above, and it doesn't work I have another idea to try.

Yes it is the cache partition. Try the wipe instructions I posted above and let me know if it works. Now that I know what you might be on it will help.

trying to reboot now but it looks like it isnt going to work. but i also read somewhere else
Only the factory recovery wipes the /data/media ("/sdcard") partition. Any third-party community-built recovery (like ClockworkMod Recovery or TeamWin Recovery Project) will wipe everything except /data/media.
So, to answer your question, as long as the files are on your phone's pretend SD card (the default for user-created content and files you transfer to your phone), they won't be wiped when installing a custom ROM.
is this true? also again could care less about the phone just need the new baby pics and vids
You are correct. The only ways to erase your internal SD card is by formatting it, masterclear in Odin, or formatting /data (not wiping but formatting -they are different functions).
Did the wipe and reboot work?

no still stuck on splash screen and vibrates maybe every minute. also updating rom not an option because not sure what rom. and clockwork wipe(even though you said will work) not an option just in case it did wipe pics. it looks like im out of options.
Download DroidExplorer and install on your PC
Reboot into Recovery. Open up Droid Explorer and see if it finds the phone. If so just browse to where you need and copy them.
I used a superwipe script before flashing a rom and tried restoring a nand, which only rebooted my phone. tried a fresh install and it says cant mount /system partition. I desperately need help!! any ideas??

When you charged the phone, did the charging LED go to green, indicating full charge? If not, you may need to use an external charger to get the battery up to power. Or replace the battery.

Hey guys, I recently attempted to root my old phone using the Amaze All in One Kit v5.2. Well, I was able to get the bootloader unlocked and installed TWRP recovery, but was unable to get any roms to load. I was advised I should relock the bootloader and attempt to do a RUU flash since my phone will no longer boot past the HTC screen. Since I relocked the bootloader, I have lost access to TWRP recovery entirely. I also tried the PH85IMG file on my SD card, but it doesn't seem to do anything different after installing and verifying.
My current bootloader screen displays the following:
***RELOCKED***
***Security Warning***
RUBY PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.93.0003
eMMC-boot
Aug 14 2012, 17:22:50
Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated.
Michael
Flash 4ext recovery and enable smart flash from settings and then flash any ics rom... (4ext has this smart flash feature so even tho you're S-ON you can still flash a rom and the kernel together in twrp recovery only the rom get Flash not the kernel) reason it didn't work for you in the first place..
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ox16mtk02zoi3qf/PH85IMG.zip
If you have a hard time flashing 4ext recovery from all in one kit use it.. (REMOVE EVERY FILE INSIDE IT EXCEPT FOR THE ONE CALLED "recovery.img" and place it in your ext_sd card and go to bootloader and follow instructions) unlock the bootloader 1st if it's locked ...

Gotcha. Well, I just got the bootloader unlocked again, but I am unable to flash 4EXT recovery through the all in one software. The only other option I saw involved installing from the phone, but since I can only get to the bootloader and TWRP recovery screen, I'm unsure of how exactly to install it. You will have to excuse my ignorance on this stuff. I'm pretty computer literate, but this rooting stuff has gotten the best of me thus far...

I have a E:failed to mount /efs (Invalid argument) error at the bottom but that should be fixed by installing cwm but it cant be installed, any help would be really appreciated.

I did nothing to it. My mom was using it only for facebook and browsing the internet, she just gave it to me to try and fix and I saw the error in the recovery thought the wipe will fix it but it didnt.

Don't flash cwm, just stock firmware from
sammobile.com
That need to fix a problem.
When you flash firmware with odin, make sure that all drivers are properly installed, then start with flashing.
When loop happens after flash, just go to stock recovery and do the factory reset, that must to fix the problem 100%

Still gives me the failed to mount error. Also forgot to mention that I have another kind of error that says did not match sized /system/csc/common/system/csc/others.xml (No data available), I am afraid that these errors are internal and I need to change the phone

I tried everything, tried multiple firmwares, NOTHING worked. I give up. I suspect that's something internal. I have no warranty so my mom will probs have to get a new phone, :/
