Topic say itself what my question is
Q: Everytime i do an OTA update it starts installing but on 26% it always fails with small android guy falls with a red exclamatory mark. I did the update previously when i was updating to jellybean for the first time. It was ok but not now. The thing i only done is previously i was at 4.1.2 XXELLA. But yesterday i flashed back an stock ICS ROM via Odin. now if im updating OTA to jellybean it keeps failing.
++ I have XXELLA bootloader as i have updated it via Odin the bootloader remains there.
Any suggestions please?
Why are you using the OTA update, why not just download the latest stock rom from the android development section?
judging by your username, you are rooted
and root takes away the OTA, which you shouldn't be using anyway if you're an xda member
Try to use Kies if OTA fails
No i was rooted before but not now. Every thing is stock but OTA still fails.

Hey this may seem like a very dumb question. However as this is my first Android phone I thought I'd ask non the less.
I have a rooted GT-I9300 S3 running 4.0.4. I was looking at the 4.1.1 LH7 release, and was wondering if updating to this firmware via odin will undo the root on the phone or if it will remain rooted?
Apologies again for the stupidity of the question, maybe its just been a long day.
OTA updates
CF-Root v6.4 supports OTA updates to be flashed by the system, but when you flash an OTA, that OTA will probably replace recovery (and keep trying to do so at every boot). You need to re-flash CF-Root after applying an OTA. Just re-flashing CWM will not work and stock recovery will keep coming back.
How to install using: Mobile ODIN
Thank you for the speedy reply and help. Its like you created a new level of awesomeness. Thank you!!
I'm guessing it won't drop automatically to rooted phones with custom roms.

Trying to update via Kies. Update notification but computer doesn't seem to want to download firmware.
Beacuse its rooted
Try flashing stockrecovery first..
Thought might have been cos of that but was previously rooted and still manage to update to ICS.
Just download 4.1.2, it is being rolled out now, we have Polish, German and UK at least now.
And no it will not drop automatically if you have custom firmware, you will need to flash via Odin.
From what i read the premium suite is just a fancy name for all the features the lastest 4.1.2 official roms already have. No point in waiting for the "official" kies update. If you're rooted, just pick up mobile odin, flash the latest and be done with in less than 5 minutes. It most likely won't even delete anything from your phone, mine never did
Hi XDA,
Am currently running rooted, jellybean stock 4.1.1 & would like to upgrade to 4.1.2. However I can't do it through OTA or Kies as my device status is 'modified' I've tried the work around of removing the SD card but no joy so am going to have to use the Odin method.
My question is if I upgrade to 4.1.2 will I keep all my settings on the OS and system apps as I've spent a lot of time getting things just as I want them.
One final question; if I go to 4.1.2 will I have to deal with the whole exclamation mark thing as I'm rooted or does that just apply to custom roms?

Your apps and files wont be affected but you will have to root again.
Hi,
I received an update notice for JB (XT910), I download this update, restart my phone and the upgrade but after a while, it stops and the phone restart.
I had updated the radio version (but then I put back the original), I had installed the extra_kernel_modules (but I've deleted), I made the Unroot with rootkeeper. Is there a way (other than to re-flash ICS) can make the original OTA?
Sorry for my English ...
There are so many other method ya can manually update to jb leaks but for that ya need to look into the dev section.
Hit the thx button if i helped ya in anyways
Try to download the ota file and flash it in the stock recovery

Ive heard recently that sgs3 is soon to be receiving the 4.3 update, skipping 4.2.2 all together. 2 questions.
1. Apparently my current firmware isn't supported to update via kies, meaning I can't check for updates via kies. Was running cm10.1 nightlys then decided to re flash stock back onto the device. So im running official 4.1 touchwiz with stock kernel.
And 2. Will this update be available over the air since kies doesn't want to work? I mean it should right? I am on stock now so I don't see why not? Thanks guys all help appreciated

did you follow the guide to get back to stock conditions? including non-modifed status etc.? usually KIES should even work with root, just removes root after the update though.
I guess the easiest, and maybe fastest bet would be to just download the update once on sammobile or here on xda and flash via Odin.
