[Q] Odin Doesn't Recognize Galaxy S2, save from CWM? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I just purchased my new Galaxy S2 4G from Virgin Mobile. First thing I did was install USB drivers, root it, flash a new PDA and Bootloader from Odin.
Now when I try to boot my phone I get stuck on
"SAMSUNG SII
Yellow Triangle"
I can boot into download and Clock Work Mod recovery and I think I can utilize a external micro SD to recover from. However I can't flash anything else from Odin as drivers seem to be messed up. I have uninstalled, reinstalled Samsung and Sprint drivers, tried different USB slots and everything.
Although it may be a driver problem as the drivers now fail to update when installing them, as it says "Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller - No Driver Found"
Anyway for me to force reinstall those drivers or something?
Could I get a stock recovery zip or whatever and put that on a micro SD then try?
Help please and thank you!!
EDIT:
Also, I have no recovery images saved to my SD card or anything like that.
EDIT2:
Kies is installed but none of it is running when I start Odin.

what method did you use to get root?
what is phone information?
we need this information inorder to help you.
If you can access CWM Recovery and you have an external SD card, i recommend moving a compatible Kernel/ROM from the computer to the external SD card. Then go to install Zip from sd card in CWM...and you should be good to go. Oh and remember to wipe data/cache and dalvik cache if necessary.
Consider fixing this bootloop before you try and fix the drivers. No phone, no recognition either way
Cheers.

To root I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721229
Phone information? It is a Samsung Galaxy S2 from Virgin Mobile. What other info can I provide?
I have an external SD card but I don't think my phone can read files off of it as I get the
E: Can't mount /sdcard/
error
My biggest question though is what is a compatible Kernel/ROM? I don't want to accidentally flash another incompatible one.
Also if I did manage to fix the drivers I could use odin to flash the first root that I used because it worked. That would get me out of the boot loop right?
Thanks mate!

I did not know that even SGS2 4G doesn't belong here, but gastonw is probably right. You should write this in Epic 4G touch forum.
well you could tell me if it's a Gt-i9100 or SGH-i777 etc. You can tell me version... 4.x.x (ICS) | 2.x.x (GB) | 4.1.x (JB)
since there are a large variety of ROMs and Kernels this info could short them down and probably tell us and hopefully yourself if what you flashed is compatible.

Alright, I could make anothe thread in the Epid4G forum.
Also, the model is a SPH-D710, version was 4.04. Also that root I linked was the first one I used that worked.
These problems began when I flashed the CWM (I think) as a bootloader from ODIn and then another PDA.

Also, heres the link to the new thread

Looking for stock Rogers firmware

Hello everyone.
My phone has been having some trouble lately and I'm trying to restore everything to as is for servicing. I found a thread with the stock Rogers Odin files, but the phone won't connect via USB(One of the problems) and the links are dead. Is there a CWM or another method to putting the stock firmware onto my phone? Odin does not work and neither does my SD card.
Thank you.

USB won't connect - problem with the cable? Or problem with drivers?
And can you clarify what you mean when you say your SD card does not work either?
Will try to help.

Hi. thanks.
The SD card is the reason why I'm sending the phone back. Two days ago it suddenly just said "SD card blank or unsupported". I tried putting it in my PC and still can't even format it. 16GB SD card. All my photo`s and files gone :S The USB cable thing I finally got working by buying a new cable, I think the other one may have been faulty. So yeah, ODIN now shows the phone connected, but I don`t have the right firmware to revert it too so that Rogers doesn`t deny me service.
Get the firmware for an Odin gingerbread install here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1657262
You also can connect to kies and install the ics ROM.
You can install any custom ROM to get your phone straightened out and then install a Rogers ROM. And any custom ROM will work with Rogers.
Also if your cable was faulty, and your card was faulty, do you really need to send your phone back?

Hey, thanks. I want to send it back because I`d rather just get a replacement than deal with this one. The SD card dying out of nowhere has really dazed me because that has never happened to me before and I just took the phone for granted as is. Besides that way I can get a new card too, otherwise I have no storage. Too many faulty things came in the box, I`m weary of the phone.
I`ll try it out when I get home. Thanks again.
Edit: In the link you posted, which file should I download? And as for Odin. Each ROM is it's own installer right? There's no Odin program to install on my PC?
You don't install Odin on your PC. But you do run it on your pc. You will need Odin3 v1.85. You will need all files from that link and you place them respectively in the blanks on Odin.
The only ROMs that have their own installer are the Odin 1 clicks. And they are only for leaks and not official versions.
Might be easier for you to install Samsung Kies on your PC and install the ICS ROM.
IMO, the odin process is pretty easy.
Just plug each file into the proper slot, they are listed in order in the post.
Only extra step - the actual ROM file (largest file) you need to unzip.
It's a one step process, and COMPLETELY reverts you back to stock. Stock recovery, no root etc.
Only extra step now, is that if you are returning it, you need to reset the flash counter.

[Q] gt-i9100 problem after using clockworkmod

Hello almighty XDA peoples.
I watched the video, I have lurked here for months. I read everything I could on my phone, but I feel like my dilemma is slightly different. If not I would be glad to rectify it.
I purchased an unlocked gt-i9100 in the UK. I now use a Tmobile sim in the US.
After a lot of reading, I rooted my phone using ODIN and CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_LQ5-v5.6-CWM5 kernel.
I installed titanium backup, and used it. I put in ROM manager.
I decided I wanted to put a custom ROM on, but I read that a full wipe was necessary so I went into clockworkmod recovery. I followed all the instructions.
Now I can't boot into OS. I can get into both clockwordmod and download mode, but my computer wont recognize my phone so I can't put a zip file onto my sd card. (probably should have done that first huh)
All I want is a normal working phone. I will leave rooting to the professionals.
It was previously running 4.0.4 xxlq6.

Ouch.
Rather dont wipe with the Samsung 4.0.4 kernel they had the brickbug...
You can try reinstall the drivers on the PC for the phone and also make sure KIES is not running then try download mode again else
try take the sd card out of the phone and put it in the pc and copy the ROM on to the SD card that way then flash with CWM.
A SD card reader is cheaper then fixing the phone if you don't already have one....
I can still access download mode and CWM though. Is that a sign of life? I went a bought a micro sd card and have put the rom onto it, which hopefully I can access through CWM. WIll update soon.

Having read the thread about 4.0.4 being susceptible to bricking, I'm now wondering what to do.
I bought a microSD card and put the Resurrection remix zip on it. I can access that though CWM and it's allowing me to update. WOuld it be better to try to downgrade to gingerbread or an early ICS, or have I passed the point where my phone should be bricking? Thanks so much in advance.

Well firstly why did you use Rom Manager? Its not properley compatible with I9100 and can lead to issues like you have if you mess about and try to flash kernel through it.
If you can still access download mode simply flash stock via ODIN and then flash custom kernel like Siyah (version depends on rom version) to gain root, cwm etc.
Alternatively first flash Siyah (.tar version) via ODIN then flash your custom rom.

if you can access download/recovery your device is not bricked. Just do as I said above and flash kernel or rom via ODIN.
I guess sometimes reading doesn't equals learning.
Wait a sec, I already knew that. Reading whole threads intead of OP-only equals learning.

Atrix no ROM no root

Hey,
I just unlocked my Atrix and after doing so i figured i could just install a ROM and be rooted (I own a Desire and a Desire HD, used to doing this). Well apparently not, so now i have one ROM in my internal storage, this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2060064
And it bootloops when flashed. I didn't make a backup of the stock ROM (silly me) and I can't mount the internal storage on my PC without having a proper ROM(?). I've also tried putting an SD card in with something to flash but that doesn't show up in CWM.
Can i flash this with RSD Lite? http://static.droidnetwork.net/1kds/SBF/Atrix/
Would that be safe?
Any other ideas are appreciated, thanks.

Don't want to sound patronising, but have you tried doing all the wipes and reflashing the ROM. I use TWRP on the Atrix but on my LG 4x HD I use CWM and have to mount the system before flashing.
If you are using SBF, make sure you pick the correct one based on whether you have an international or ATT&T Atrix.

Hey and thanks for the response.
After doing a factory reset and installing the rom (it installs really fast) i try to mount /system, it says error mounting /system.
If i flash the international one it wont brick my device right?
Hey one more thing, where do i find the international version? The link i posted only contains AT&T US .sbfs. It won't brick my phone even though i'm unlocked right?
I also have a new problem, i can't charge the phone and I don't have enough battery to flash. When i plug it in it just stays at the Moto logo and apparently doesnt charge.
So basically i can't charge it, I can't flash .sbfs, i can't flash ROMs because i don't have any in my internal storage and CWM won't see my SD card, and my computer can't see the phone so i could put another ROM there.
I'm in quite a mess it seems, any ideas?

[Q] Rom Manager and CWM thinks that my phone storage is indeed my SD card

I'm working with the Galaxy s3 I747M (Telus)
My phone was recently soft-bricked after trying to mess with ChainFire3D (idiot, I know) I didn't even check compatibility, loooool
Anyways I put everything back to stock, (Android 4.1.1) I'm now rooted and have CMW installed, I'm now just trying to install Cyanogen mod(Andoird 4.2.2.)
I placed the rom on to my SD root as normal and tried to install via Rom Manager, couldn't find it, couldn't manually in CWM either. Then noticed something funny, all the directories that were appearing were indeed from my phone's storage, but listed as /sdcard. So to test that theory I placed my custom rom in to my phone's root, bingo it appears, same if I go to it manually in CMW.
I tried to be passive about this issue and continue to install the rom, but once in CMW, the installation fails. I'd like to believe it has something to do with this directory issue, any thoughts? Everything is detected normally on the computer so just changing the names around isn't really an option, please help! D:
I would try going back to stock again with Odin or hiemdall, this time using pit files, flashing bootloaders etc

[Q] Access to Internal storage from a screen broken SII

Hello,
I broke my SII screen, I can not unlock it or see anything anymore. Obvioulsly, I'd like to access to internal storage *but* I did not activate USB debugging, or install any custom rom.
I manage to got to the device with adb, but as the phone is not rooted, I did not manage to mount internal storage in order to pull files from my phone. I also try Kied but I need to unlock the phone to access files.
I search the web and xda but I did not found a working solution (maybe my keywords were wrong).
Does someone has a solution ? For instance, a way just to be root easily on the phone in order to mount Internal storage ? Any other id ?
Thank you very much in advance. Doms.
PS: I do not want to change the screen as the price for the screen is too high. I do not have access to another SII phone in order to plug its screen on my mother board.
Flash a custom kernel/root the phone/get CWM, then find someone who uses the version of CWM that comes with that kernel to walk you through doing a nandroid backup (how many button presses to get through menus, etc) ?

Thank you for your answer. I'd like to install CWM but is it possible without putting the phone in debug mode ? How can I put the file on the phone as I can not mount storage under adb ?
Thenk you for your help.
Doms.
You can flash a custom kernel via Odin (like Siyah) in download mode, the file you're flashing is on your PC, not on the phone, and this will root your phone and install CWM at the same time. All you need to know beforehand is what Android version you currently have on the phone so you choose the right build to flash, otherwise you'll end up with bootloop.
Search for the Siyah threads on here & read to work out which build you need to flash.

Thank you again. Will try to get in download mode (more difficult than recovery as I need to validate at some moment without screen, adb do no want to do it as the phone is not rooted).
One last question: will it erase the internal storage or not?
Best regards. Doms.
If you have problems getting into DL mode, order a jig, or try the thread in General section where people have offered to lend their jigs to people nearby; might be someone near you who has one (not sure if the thread is still updated, but worth a look).
No, flashing a custom kernel will only do exactly that, replace your stock kernel with the custom kernel & your stock recovery with CWM, nothing else is touched.
Edit - The end result of this will be a nandroid backup, and you'll still have to get your data out of that. The easiest possible way will be to find someone else with an S2, restore your backup to their phone, get your data, and then have that person restore their setup. You can pull data from a nandroid (with just a PC), but it can be a bit fiddly if you've never done it before. We'll cross that bridge once you actually have a backup though.

You're welcome Good luck, post here when you've flashed it/if you have problems.

Just to thank you again. I just have time to try it and it works fine ! Get and remove my 2 Gb of photo from my old phone.
Best regards. Doms.
No worries. Nice work, glad you got your data
