Galaxy Grand?? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Shall I buy a galaxy grand??
It has 1gb ram.
Will there be development enough?
I have an Xperia U so I might buy it.
The thing is updates.
It has JellyBean 4.1 will it get 4.2 via CM10.1?
I only care bout that and please can anyone tell me which GPU and chipset does it have.
Or some better phones in the price range.
Btw it has 1gb ram so will it get KeyLimePie when it releases?
Thanks in advance.

Sorry, don't close.
Wrong post.

Sory for being late but i'll prefer you to buy a Samsung Galaxy Nexus or the Nexus 4, because you only love updates.
These two are the only smartphones that'll get the update straightaway from google ASA the version is released.

I don't think it will be having more of development work going on, it's only launched in few countries and it's got a poor display which is kinda major draw back of it.

LIFE!
IT'S WHAT YOU MAKE OUT OF IT!

Poor display??!!!! And no development.....! Fuk I won't buy it then.

well at least we have to answer his question first
even if someone managed to port it chances are the phone will puke it out.. One X have a considerably higher specs than S2.. hence it'll be unlikely that S2 will have that kind of features..

I have a SGSII. I can test the Nexus and personally I won't change for it. Ok, the update can be faster, but if you can put CM10 if you want the last version (yes, with some bugs, but they make a excellent job).
Only my opinion...
Nexus' biggest disadvantage: no microSD slot!!
Sent from my GT-I9100
in galaxy nexus 5mp camera. in sgs2 8mp camera
there is no sdcard slot in galaxy nexus.
I choose sgs2 and I don't want change it for galaxy nexus
Have a look at them both here
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung-phones-9.php
Personally would not have a Nexus over SGS2 regardless of updates

Yeah but the s2 is a better device, and it's already on jb. So idk what you mean by fast updates?

Reconsider...
may sound like a good "upgrade" but really I promise it isn't... Galaxy Nexus is same guts with a lesser camera... a more clunky feel in your pocket and lacks gorilla glass.... the development that is going on in the xda community here is far superior to anything you will find stock from the nexus... before you jump ship... give the team's work a try.

updates from google, we have cyanogen with fantastic roms but lacks close sources like video calls and nice camera app like on stock samsung roms
i think the updates to use all the features from the phone are better in nexus devices

u are right, the camera on S2 is amazing, but i have to ask u this, do u have an GNEX? and why the question? im aiming google experience and not the score on quadrant, i know the cpu is the same speed, i know tha S2 as a better gpu but i dont play games
i just dont want to regret after i make the trade
As the other people said, galaxy s2 is better, if you want a fast phone then flash resurrection remix rom

Will we get Android 5.0 officially by Samsung?

What do you guys think?
It seems we will receive 4.2 early next year, but what about 5.0? It probably will be out in summer, so its near the end of the 18 month update plan.
Guesses?
i don't think . they will probably say they are " working on it " than cancel it and say it wont release it because it doesn't have enough ram .
^ 5.0 will probably add a bunch of new features but I'll bet the main aim for El Goog will be to optimise it so it runs on more devices. The biggest con on Android from other smartphone users is "fragmentation" I reckon Google will do their best to sort this.
Yes
Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk 2
It'll probably be on the SGS IV then.
Lets watch how 4.1.1, 4.1.2, 4.2 goes, 5 shall probably follow the same rollout schedule.
As for telco's rolling it out, expect the same slowness 3month+ delay for bloatware, testing, reports, approval etc. Probably a 2014 release unless it comes pre installed or DIY if you want it early
Think ill just go for the SGS IV
I would say, Yes.. unless there's a new hexa-core processor for smartphone in the coming future, then will slightly doubt S# will be getting 5.0
For now with quad-core and 1GB RAM (or some cases 2GB RAM) are enough spec for smartphone..
Maybe, in year 2046..

They are the best processors though, and if you want a proper a15, the exynos 5 is the only way to get there. It's also worth keeping in mind that the Exynos 5 is also much more open source friendly now that it is used in the nexus 10(that could however change if Samsung decides to go for the big.little architecture change).
Just because Exynos deosnt have proper documentation doesnt mean its not the best mobile processor on the planet. It is.

Bro...why would i migrate from one mid-range to another? If i have to retire my neoV...wont i buy an upgraded phone? Note 2 is my desired phone...and by the time i would be able to spend 35-40k...there would be another samsung flagship in market...so am just waiting.

Lolz. I bet ull hate samsung. Nd xperia devices jst rock. Although service centres r irritating ones nd ppl der r dumb, bt xperia phones have caliber of dng everything a smartphone can do, example take galaxy s2 it has much better processor then neo v but its stl on ics that also 4.0.3. I guess it was a high end phone. samsung updates only its new flagships asap by d tym u buy note 2 , note 3 will b in market or s4.. Then ur note 2 will stay on jb no longer updates if dey come they ll come rarely. Nd ace plus same processor like neo v and samsung promises jb for it. I wonder hw it ll support jb..

Okk...if you guys say so...i will think about it.
Actually the thing is...updates to a newer android version don't matter if your hardware can't handle it good...what matters is the current firmware should be so refined to exploit the phone's resources at its best...what's the point of adding new features when the basic functionality is suffering.
In our case...our device lacks ram and is single cored...let's put aside the core thing...it simply struggles for ram in ICS and JB. And whatever hardwork teams like cyanogenmod may put into it...they can't provide full functionality that OEM provides...so in my opinion...maintainance updates are much significant...as they bring to you a better phone...not just a new interface with crippled functionality.
You may add various tweaks and improve the firmware to your liking...but the overall experience will not be as the OEM intended to be.
The precis is...even if a manufacturer doesn't update to the latest android version...it provides maintainance updates which are crucial...and samsung does it...and besides the updates...its phones are already loaded with functionality...and a phone with quad-core cpu and 2gb ram is more than sufficient unless one intends to carry a PC in his pocket...which is always thethered to the power outlet.
And the complains about exynos...they have been acknowledged by samsung.
And those who say Sony has ditched 2011 devices...sony has already supported us for long to the extent our devices can handle...it gave us ICS despite the limited resources our device has. And being a global company...it too has to survive. It has to concentrate on the competition. Accusing it of abandoning us is totally unfair. There was no lifetime commitment sony had signed with you...you bought the device and sony supported it as long as the device needed it.
Dont think of me as an advocate for sony...i am simply pointing to the fact that whatever firmware is on the phone...it should be perfect in utilizing phone's resources...not a burden on the phone's head.
Pheeewwwww..........sorry...too long a debate.
These are only my views...those who differ in opinion...simply ignore.

Thanks mate...i have already read your thread...and before that i have tried swap on system of about 150mb...multitasking becomes awsome but whatever media you use for swap...be it SDcard/nand...its life degrades eventually.
And i am not that well off to replace my card every 4months...and not to mention the terrible performance hit when the trade over takes place.
Thats why zram is better.
And i think any ram size below 1gb is inadequate for android 4+.
We have cast away from the thread's topic...my apologies guys...continue the original topic.

[Q] confused

hi guys i am very confused i want to buy a new phone and i am confused between galaxy grand duos with big 5 inch screen and dual sim card but i am a gaming person i love hd games and i love also browsing and reading ebooks
i watch alot of youtube videos for both galaxy s2 and galaxy grand which one i should pick i love the 16 gb in s2 and gpu power and otg idea so plz help me
Listen mate, what do you want any of us to say?
It's a world of pointlessness asking for a phone comparison in a S2 forum (the wrong section by the way) because all you're going to get is biased responses.
Check the specs of both phones, check the reviews and make up you're own mind.
Asking a load of complete strangers to make purchase decisions for you is no way to go through life son.

I wouldn't buy it again since Samsung doesn't release documentation about Exynos chip and therefore custom ROMs won't run bug-free. I guess I'd try a Sony or take a look at the Fairphone at fairphone.com.
By the way, you're in the wrong section. Ask a moderator to move it to Q&A please.

Not necessarily biased as people experienced with a S2 can definitely give great comparison on how other phone's work better/worse.
Ok to the OP, first of all the display is the only relevant and major factor here, other hardware configuration are either equal or inferior compared to the S2 (The Mali Gpu is definitely more powerful),for the duo's the internal memory is at 8gb or something right(at the same price S2 will have 16).
Ok about the display the only good is that it's 5" rest about it is crap, come on comparing a tft touchscreen with an amoled plus is not even remotely fair. Amoled outshines(pun!) tft, period. For a 5" screen the resolution is same as the S2's, the ppi is so low the pixels can be seen as big ugly dots.
So in almost every regards S2 does infact outshines the grand, but if you want a bigger screen you will have to go for the grand.
This review by me is not biased, I compared every specs of the device for a friend and found it completely unimpressive.
