OK, I have written an app to attempt and stop call wonkyness on CM7 builds. Specifically the phone locking up when making and receiving calls.
It's my observation that it's the mic that causes the phone to lock up and so this app opens and closes the mic every minute to keep it "fresh". It's a long shot, but I can't seem to duplicate wonkyness with it enabled so I'm posting it for other to try.
Now after a few positive comments to help boost my confidence in the app, I've made it's own thread to make it easy to track comments.
Just install and run (or just reboot as it auto-start on boot). To disable, uninstall it.
Please post your results!
Change Log:
Version 1.4
Made service more persistent by adding notification bar. Turns out, Android was killing off the service when memory was running low causing wonk to surface.
Version 1.3
Can only be installed on internal memory. Needed to make sure the service can started up on boot. (Thanks to mjukis for pointing this out)
Version 1.2
Only dewonkificates when screen is off to avoid conflicts with any apps you may be using.
Removed debug logging
[Post edited because the wonkyness is still there and this .apk works fine to fix it]
Dude.... As best as I can tell in 20 minutes' time, this damn thing seems to actually work! Gotta tell ya how skeptical I was....but I'm pretty flippin' pleased right now!
Good looking out!!
Much appreciated for this app.
While it's still too early to say it's 100% working, so far so good.
I have had the wonk since build 3 to 23 (except for 16).
I will keep testing and report back often.
That's great news and I'm happy that it looks like it's working for people. I was on the edge of rolling back and this was a desperate attempt to fix it.
Agree with the op. Can't say for sure its the miracle I've been waiting for... but 4 calls in (admittedly 2 from myself, ) no wonks. When I'd expect all to be wonky
If this 'wonklessisity' continues you will surely become supreme ruler of xda!
Will report back soon.

What are your thoughts and battery impact?....and would some timeframe greater or less than 1 min. factor in??
Does this fix it?

Currently I can't see any measurable battery drain. Dewonkificator doesn't even show on the About phone->Battery use screen. Increasing the time between dewonkification might be work, but since battery doesn't seem to be a issue and we don't know what the source of the problem is I don't think its worth risking or investigating.
I also believe it have something to do with the mic, since all apps that use it have the same freeze, and it seems to work for me. Thanks

Maybe watchdog would be a better app for checking. Would give us a better idea of CPU use. Also juice plotter may help see prior and after install battery consumption
I've tested it,and havent got any wongkiness for today. I think its working...

gracias!
You deserve an E-Cookie for coming up with such an awesome name
Wonky just visited me when my wife called. Installed your dewonky app for testing.
Thanks.
This bug is the reason I got off CM7 nightlies, so damn annoying. Maybe this is a Gingerbread thing rather than a Nexus S problem cause the Nexus S is supposed to be rebooting itself while in calls as I'm sure everyone knows.
Hi there was going to search but its unavailable. I have a rooted S3 with omega v7 and the franco kernal and am very happy with the performance. The only problem is during a call i can hear my self echo and its about 1-2 sec after i have spoken? Do you reckon it could be beacause of the kernel or something wrong with the phone? Sorry if this has been already asked.
What modem are you on?
Are you sure it's not the other phone?
The delay could be about right.

Good day, I have been testing your newest longhorn since u released it a few days ago. I have to say it is much more responsive then ur last version. Like: screen, launching apps, the feel and battery management is awesome compared to last version. But I have noticed a few minor issues that I have noticed in this release like, screen unlock laggs a bit and I have noticed that the wifi has shorter range in my house compared to last version of langhorn.
I was also wondering why u removed the option for overclocking?
But I must say that I really like ur rom and wanted to say good job.

I think the CPU was intentionally set to max 998 from the Kernel, as it features the Balanced Kernel by Tenorntex, with many governors and other things, probably oveclocking will be implemented in a future release
Don't know for sure, just saying
I think ur right, I was doing little research on the kernal this morning. Thank you for the reply.

by the way.. usually overclocking is not good for your streak health and battery... and performance is not always stable... but right now... it is pretty much stable...

I find the battery performance a budge improvement compared to last version, I was watching a full movie and surfing the web and even listen to some music's and the battery was at around 50% when I went to bed. Last version I was charging this phone at least 2 timmes a day.

I'm noticing that if I don't use my Streak for a while, say 30 minutes, with LH 2.9.3 the phone will go unresponsive and I'll have to pull the battery to use it again. The screen will be dark and won't respond with posting any of the buttons.
Is anyone else having this issue?
I should note that it is using WiFi in airplane mode since I don't have a carrier for my Streak.
Otherwise this version has been a good update!

so you are saying that even when you press the power button.. the screen would not light up?
Yep, that's what happens.
Naturally, since I posted this, I had it work as expected. (It was idle for a few hours and the power button lit the screen.)
I'm thinking it may be an app issue, or maybe usage related (?), as this time I didn't use Google reader or the browser between turning it on and letting it idle.
I still think this was worth reporting.
Given the symptoms I don't see an obvious way to troubleshoot easily. If there are any thoughts/suggestions, is be interested in them.

Update on this:
I've got a feeling that this happens when I use Google Reader. I have some testing to do to confirm but it appears to be related to having used some certain app(s).
Well, it's not Reader. It seems that it maybe the battery running down faster than I'm expecting. What troubles me is that it's not consistent. Sometimes the battery can last days and other times it only lasts multiple hours despite a similar usage pattern. *shrug*
Text Message Delivery Notification
Hi,
In Longhorn 2.9.3 I am unable to find option for Delivery Reports of Text Messages. Can someone please help me on this.
Thanks in advance..

I had stunning success with build 6, but build 7 is now installed and there are some issues. I'm hoping there are solutions, 'cause they're sort of important to me.
1. The main reason I was looking for alternative ROMs in the first place was battery life - the official JB update for my international I9100 was a battery vampire, leaving me with 30% battery by early afternoon, some days sucking me down to 3% by 3pm, with very moderate use.
Slim build 6 was amazing, best battery life ever. Build 7 is not very good at all, leaving me with ~10% by the end of the day. Am I the only person noticing this?
2. The lock screen sometimes decides it's not going to activate. I turn the phone off and on again, and I'm immediately back into the phone - no lock screen. It'll do this for 20 mins at a time, then suddenly - during regular use - lock itself, as if the lock screen was just waiting for a convenient time to activate.
I'm pretty tempted to go back to build 6, unless anyone can suggest fixes for these issues.
As an aside, the adaptive screen mode that's enabled by default is very nearly as annoying as the wrong pixel density setting build 6 came with, it's incredibly disconcerting to see that little outline around everything, as if it were being sharpened or - and this worried me - as if the screen were suffering weird power problems.
My apologies if this is in the wrong place, I couldn't find any slim-specific forums or threads... No doubt I am lazy and should not have given up after five minutes, I am sorry.

I had the same problem with lockscreen and really only full wipe helped - think you did a dirty flash too.
I did a clean install and it helped. ( takes about 25 min with restore apps with TB and settings manually !)

Thanks for that info, I appreciate it.
But... I mean, I suppose that's an option, but I'd really rather not have to do that for what seems like a minor update, you know? Going from stock ROM to Slim was painless, fast and easy. No trouble! Why is Slim to Slim a hassle?
I've been spending some time on IRC and the guys there were incredibly helpful. We tracked down the weird screen sharpening issue, and solved my battery problem (it's the media scanner, running full-speed pretty much all the time the phone is being used). Or at least, I hope we solved it. I don't know what happens when I put my MP3s back on the SD card. =)

@NFGman
Hi, i have the same problems with:
- media scanner (this goes on since i have the phone, even on the stock rom - The phone turnes off several times during the day. It can only be turned on again by removing and inserting the battery. After every unwanted shutdown, the battery level drops from 10%-40%. Media scanner shows itself in the battery usage as a major consumer.)
- sharpening issue (appears since i upgraded to Build 7 - I see a strange outline around icons and generally, the screen looks like the resolution was not right)
How did you solve it? Thanks!

Hi ivisko!
I don't have a freezing problem, but the sharpness issue was easily solved - some guys in the slim IRC channel helped me.
Settings / advanced (near the bottom) / screen / Scenario -> set it to CyanogenMod (Default) and the problem goes away.
As for the battery life / media scanner, that was easy but time consuming. Simply remove all your media (in my case MP3 files) and the scanner has nothing to scan. Then start putting them back in chunks until you find one the scanner doesn't like. In my case I had a few files with some bad IDv3 tags, and the scanner just finds them and goes infinite.
