Hello my friends,
My charger is not detected on my prime.
I use my stock asus charger.
Nevertheless, it charge ! Slowly...but it charge !
I reset the tab, no changes !
I do a reset factory and a wip, no changes.
Anyone know any tips or solutions ?
Thanks a lot
Best regards,
Nixeus
It could be the cable. I have read about cable problems when connecting to a pc.

I had the same issue a few weeks back..
have you tried the freezer trick?
the charger device overloads from time to time and a protection mechanism kicks in.
Put the charger in a freezer bag (to prevent any water getting in), then put the bag with the charger in your freezer for 20/30 minutes.
This worked for me several times
eventually my charger died
I got a replacement charger from amazon does the job..
I had this problem a few times too, the first few times putting the charger in the fridge worked. After about three times that stopped working, so i bought a new cable and it worked. I was surprised because i thought the problem was in the charger itself, but the new cable fixed it. Another thing you can try is to slide off the part of the charger that plugs into the wall. There will be two metal prongs. Bend them away from each other, just a little bit. I have read that this fixes some peoples problems as well.
I had the same problem with my charger, sendt it in, an got a new in return from the Asus workshop.
I had issues with the PC then eventually it stopped charging. Called asus and did an rma. Had a new one in two weeks.

For information, I also had a same charging problem last week-end: my prime and the dock didn't charge anymore!? I finally found out that the CABLE was the source of the problem.
Same thing here happened to me months ago. Tested all combinations with another TF700 and found out it was the cable. Now I'm back to charging like normal with no issues.

Hy all
I received my asus transformer prime some hours ago. I have the problem that my device does not charge when I put in the cable into my computer. But the device connets to the computer and is known as Transformer prime.
The only way to charge it in a slow mode is to turn off the screen, plug in into the computer and wait. Then it charges about 5 percent in an hour. I guess this way it charges only with 5V instead of 15V. I don't use any extension cables.
Where to you think is the problem and how can I solve it? There are other posts in other forum with the same problem.
Did anyone else had this problem? Thank you in advance. (sorry for my english)
You can only charge it with a wall charger officially -> there us no problem

No charging with USB? Are you sure?
I can't use the US charger because I live in Europe. But I ordered now the charger from Transformer Prime - seams to be the same - for Europe. Maybe this helps.
Try this
http://event.asus.com/mb/2010/ai_charger/
Thank you - i will try this tool and buy an US/EU adapter. Hope it works.
The instructions in the online PDF for the TF101 state that you can ONLY charge on straight USB with the unit OFF. I doubt that would change for the TF102
Is the adapter only 110v? If not just get something like this:

My wife has the original transformer and it will charge from my computer ONLY when the screen is off (weird right?) and even so, it charges sooo slow that way. She left it over night and it went from 18% up to 47%!
I'm still waiting for my Prime. Can someone confirm or deny this same tactic will work with it? You're better off getting the wall charger, but it might do in a pinch.
The problem is that the device goes ON if I plug it into the computer . Okay, I have to shut down the device after I plugged in.
There s thread in the original transformer forum that dig into the charging needs of the transformer.
The short version is, you need a 12v output, most standard USB AC only output 5v.
And you need to use the Asus USB wire, standard USB wire doesn't support 12volt current.
I did find a generic 12v AC with a USB port, priced around 10 euros in EU, it's not uber commun but I found it in a general store, so you shouldn't have to much problem getting one somewhere.

This does still work - I can confirm. But don't have so much time all the time
you guys should not be surprised at the charging speed on USB2.0. Most USB ports (unless you're using a newer motherboard) max out at 500ma. You can do the math.
Most tablets don't charge at all via USB to PC. This is because they have bigger batteries and the PC USB standard power output is 5v. Having it charge at all via USB is a blessing, but will not be practical in most situations. However, I am glad to have the option.
It would be nice to have the USB standard on PC increased to handle this, but maybe USB 4.0.
There is an extension to USB 3.0 that is being proposed that will allow up to 100 watts of charging. Should be seeing it in 2012.
http://www.guru3d.com/news/new-usb-30-power-spec-enables-up-to-100w/
Will this charge in a USB 3.0 port can anyone confirm? And does it requires turning it off?

Try the program I posted earlier in this tread. Works with any PC motherboard and will charge your tablets.

I have that program with my Asus mobo it does NOT charge your tab faster and does not even notice it is there like it does with a Ipod
Solution to Transformer Prime not charging problem
I'm not an apologist for ASUS, their UK tech support was useless and offered the only solution as a return for repair.
So you can be sure you have the same problem. My Prime worked perfectly (brilliant piece of kit!) but two days again stopped taking charge. Keypad drained completely, tab was down to 25% before I realised I had to do something. ICS has been downloaded.
ASUS told me it was the transformer plug not working - wrong I tested the output. Charge was not beinbg taken when cable was plugged into a PC or a an alternative USB transformer either.
ASUS told me it was the cable not working - Wrong - it woke the device up when plugged in.
ASUS told me it was because the new firmware was the problem and it shoudl go back to them for resetting to Android 3. Wrong.
ANSWER - Simples, reset with a paper clip using the small hole by the SD card in the Tab. Ten seconds. Restart.
Tablet and Dock start to recharge instantly. No problems since. No setting seem to be lost, all Skype contacts, Wireless passwords intact.
Don't panic and don't send it back. Hope this helps.
Spread the word gret piece of kit, just ignore the ASUS help....
Thanks a lot
you made my day,it was not charging at all..the asus prime came from singapore and im currently in india it wasnt charging at all now it works perfectly.all i had to do was reset the pad .then it started charging ..
Just to double check, what effect does this reset have on the software. Any apps/data/settings lost? Does it revert the software to an older version?
Received my prime yesterday, but it won't charge. Neither will the dock. I'm able to transfer files with the cable though. Tried with several outputs like the charger that comes with, computers usb output and another usb output. I wouldn't charge in the beginning then it suddenly started charging after a while. After that I updated to ICS and now it won't charge again.

From the sound of it either your cable or your wall charger might be defective. Might want to have it exchanged.

try re-assembling your charger (wall plug pins to the transformer block.)
The connection between the two bits can be flakey .
(I had the same problem with mine but fine now.)
Find someone else with a prime and gradually substitute the components : pins, charger and cable.

I wouldn't personally recommend mucking about with an electronic device that you plug into the mains socket if you've never done it before, OP.

good advice
I think I might have been misunderstood here: I was referring to the transformer block and the pin unit, which in the UK come as two separate bits which you slide together: hardly mucking about with it.
The connectors on the transformer part are a bit poor, and in my case gave a poor contact.

The prime won't charge from a normal USB socket (eg from your computer) - the wall socket puts out 15V when it sees the prime attached instead of the normal 5V.
What I'd do is plug the prime into the wall socket - check if it works. If not plug another usb device for example a phone, kindle etc. into the socket and see if that charges - if it does it's the cable/tablet at fault, if not then it's something to do with the transformer attached to the plug.
As someone's alread mentioned before, occasionally the pins between teh transformer and the prongs that go in the wall aren't quite touching - some people have had success in bending these out very slightly.
Thank you for all your help. I did some testing, and it seems to be that the wall charger is the problem (wouldn't charge my phone either). It starts charging for maybe about 5 minutes, and then it stops (and it's pretty hot). If I let it cool of for a minute it's able to charge again, and same procedure happens. Then my only problem is to get hold of a new wall charger..
Looks like I'm not the only one with this issue. I feel like a doctor making a diagnosis.
Have had my Prime for about 7 mos. Got the docking station about two months ago, been working like a charm. I did notice lately that the charger block got warm when plugged in and both tablet and dock were charging. I didn't have anything else plugged into the outlet.
Last night I noticed it was being temperamental, it made the battery connection noise and showed the connection pop-up on the screen. Then I noticed on and off last night it kept going on and off. Finally it stayed on. When I checked it hours later, the dock hadn't charged a bit.
I did the computer test for the tablet, it reads it on USB and from what I could tell, it did charge up the tablet. Figured it was maybe the block. I tried charging it from the wall with JUST the dock. It worked for a minute as I saw the red light, then it went off again.
Replaced the block itself, nothing. Tried bending the pins out a bit on old one, nothing. Won't even charge the tablet now.
What is baffling to me is how the tablet shows when it's connected to the comp, with the SAME wire...
I looked through some posts above trying out various things, nada.
I'm going to continue my minor surgery and see, otherwise, guess I need to go back and get a new charging wire.
As Bill Lumbergh would say, grrreeeeeeeeeeeeeaat.

The wires that connect power are not the same that transmit data. You could easily break one and not (yet) the other.

Actually, that does make me feel a tiny bit better.
Sidenote: Guess I'm going to just take this block back to Best Buy and get a whole new cord. I could probably call Asus, but I'm not sure that would be of any help.
It looks like my charger has gone bad after 3 months of use. I've tried ASUS online chat and it isn't available. I tried the web form and it times out on submission. And when I call the number, I get disconnected. So, having problems getting warranty repair.
Is there another charger with a USB connection I can use with it or does it has to be the ASUS model? Just wondering...
Thanks!
Brian
Quick update...I did find a Zune Wall Charger with same specs...hooked it up...still nothing...wondering if it is the cable now...
My local Office Depot has the charger for the TF101 in stock. Despite the shorter cable, will it work with the TF201?
Thanks!

It has happened to me twice this year, I just put the wall charger in a ziploc bag, leave it on the freezer for 15 mins and then it works again. This procedure is explained in other forums (I think transformerforums), it's harmless and you have nothing to loose.

Incredible. I just fixed my adapter by 20 minutes of freezing. Will this help permanently or should I use my warranty?
Fixed mine once by unplugging and plugging the 2-Round-Pin Plug.
My charger did not work too. Go to the shop you bought the tablet from or email/call them, and, if your still on warranty, then tell them to replace it. If not, them tell them to give you a new cable and test it there before paying it. If does not work, tell them to give you both new cable and charger block to test it. If it does work, then buy it. I have had this problem too.

Try another USB cable they often break. If that doesn't work you can always get a Touchstone and the WiFi file transfer app. That should allow you to keep using the tablet like normal.
The usual HP TouchPad battery drain issues:
-If your battery is heavily drained, then you may need to leave it charging for a full day.
-When the battery is fully drained it can take the TP a longtime to reach even the lowest battery level.
-The USB cable that comes with the HP TP is often defective and breaks easily. Try using another USB cable if possible.
-The USB cable does not transfer enough power to effectively charge the tablet. You must use the wall plug when charging the HP TouchPad.
-To be safe don't let your HP TouchPad run out of Batteries ever! Install one of these free apps!
-You can add an automatic shutdown Rule by doing the following.
-AutomateIt, Play Store Link- What to do: New Rule/Trigger Battery level(Below 20%)/Action/Shutdown//save. Or
-Llama, Play Store Link- Location Profiles:Event tab choose + (at the bottom of the screen) Addcondition (battery Level Below 20%) Actions (turn off phone)

So I was bending over to pull an electrical cord out of the socket behind my entertainment unit, and I used my touchpad (in a case) to support my weight, I didn't realise that I had it cable side down, well just as I grabbed the power cord the usb cable gave way and I thought I had broken my touchpad too.
Anyway, I tried a new cable and it worked fine, these tablets may not be pretty, but they sure are tough.
Hope you have some luck in getting it fixed.

but yeah. maybe i will buy the charger. i like android tablet. but saw the asus transformer t100 tablet with dock keyboard windows 8.1 tablet. 350€ 32gb. but more interested in the 380€ 64gb.
but yeah damn 380€ much but its good for studies and things full windows. but still im gonna want my android tablet.
so i think i will buy one day the charger. but euh, if my battery is empty does touchstone charge it from dead? other wise im ****ed...
Had some problem but solved
Hi reggiexp,
I had the same issue of touchpad not charging. But i used my Nokia lumia charger plugged into TP when it is dead throughout the night and found it 48% charged in the morning after i switched on. When i reconnected the tp when it was on it came to full charge in an hour. Try this.
Please ignore the warning that the USB cable is not genuine which comes when you connect different USB cable.
Hope it helps!
Thought I would post this just in case anyone else is looking for a solution here. Purchased this off Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ES5ZSW/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Doesn't cause pop any warnings while charging. Still using the plug that was sent with the touchpad and it is working better than the other one. Feels a little more secure while plugged in.
I'm a big fan of the touchstone.
However I sort of have the opposite problem as both of my Touchstone chargers have quite working. Each at different times. My suspicion is they suffered the same faulty cable fate. Unfortunately I won't be purchasing another as they are to expensive to replace at this point.
my touchpad colects dust now. its i think at 70% battery if not more i turned it of. and put it in a drawer Xd

Just a thought, but if you don't plan on using your Touchpad anymore, you could maybe consider donating it to a developer interested in toying with one? To broaden the support base of those still running this thing lol.
Or wait, so is the USB port dead or not? I thought an earlier post made it seem like it wasn't. Sorry if I misread lol.

Think it needs a new usb connector. But i dont use it. And didnt even try to take it apart. Im way to laxy its a grest tablet. Wantrd to give it to my mom but if it doesnt charge well my mom wont have any use for it.
Found a usb board 16euro +10euro sending. But yeah is it worth it... Will try to take my touchpad apart to see if its realy broken. And maybe repair it so my mom has a tablet again.
