http://dx.com/p/ac-power-adapter-ch...101-tf201-sl101-black-2-round-pin-plug-137392

don't buy a new one yet!
It has happened to me twice this year, I just put the wall charger in a ziploc bag, leave it on the freezer for 15 mins and then it works again. This procedure is explained in other forums (I think transformerforums), it's harmless and you have nothing to loose.

Incredible. I just fixed my adapter by 20 minutes of freezing. Will this help permanently or should I use my warranty?

Fixed mine once by unplugging and plugging the 2-Round-Pin Plug.

My charger did not work too. Go to the shop you bought the tablet from or email/call them, and, if your still on warranty, then tell them to replace it. If not, them tell them to give you a new cable and test it there before paying it. If does not work, tell them to give you both new cable and charger block to test it. If it does work, then buy it. I have had this problem too.

My wall charger lasted 1 month.. power supply is dead

Already dead. Wont charge the Prime. I called them, that was a real treat - I was on the line for 35 minutes as he researched the "issue" and we worked out the details I have 2 Prime's in the family, tested them back and fourth and 1 is dead - cable is fine, the little black power supply box is toast.
Now I get the joy of sending it back, on my dime For a product of this size, and this value, is it worth it for them to spend 35 minutes on the phone, me send it back, them check it, send me one back... for a $5 piece. Jeeezz just send me one already as it is going to cost $100 in man power to deal with the stupid thing. And the hoops i had to go through to try to prove this power supply was tied to my on record Prime, it was a joke. Total Joke and now we will be out of the power supply for maybe 10 days or more & she is leaving town in a few days. Plus, you get the joy of them sending you an RMA email that is like 3 pages long and looks like it was formatted by a 5th grader. Ugh.

This is the first post where someone is complaining that I actually felt like you had a real complaint against the company. That is outrageous. You have more patience than I do. I would have just bought a new one and said screw it. Sorry for your troubles, though. Do you like your Prime otherwise? Mine will be here Monday and am hoping I have no issues.
EDIT: I say only post. That's an exaggeration. This is one of very few posts that I've read where I actually feel sorry for you. Too many on here are just whiners. Granted, this is just a vent post, but I think it's rather warranted in my opinion.

My first transformer had a bad power adapter, I had to go purchase another one from staples. This one that came with the prime is exact same thing, except the removing prongs aren't foldable and the cable is longer. Also my previous adapter chipped in an area...it's pretty fragile.
Dang, that sux. Better take off overclock and put it in Power/battery savings mode

Since it's a usb plug adapter, can you use another usb plug from another device? I know I can switch plugs between my HTC, Sony Ericsson, and Motorola phones with the same usb plug adapter.
That does suck. Have you tried the freezer trick? Put it in a ziploc then put it in the freezer for like 15 minutes.
My charger "died" within like a week, but the freezer trick fixed it and its been going fine since then. After being in the freezer the thin plastic piece that has the actual prongs in it was displaced a few mm from the larger plastic piece, so I just pushed it back into place and it worked.
Worth a shot before sending it in if you haven't already

Oh yeah, +1 for this. I've heard this works because of the temp lock on the charger. Sometimes it gets stuck and won't let it charge anymore. Good find. Someone give this man a thanks because I'm all out because of all of the ICS goodness going on in the Rezound forums lol

I don't think another adapter works. The transformer use to be able to charge via usb on the computer, but it took about 24 hours to fully charge from a computer usb port. The prime doesn't seem to charge at all, when I plug it in, it doesn't say "charging".

Nope... I tried one from an iPod, a Griffin, and a generic one. None would work. They do specifically mention in their manual only use "their" charger.. I dont care about stuff like that but turns out, the 3 I tried would not work

Gonna pass and here is why.. surely in that power supply is a motherboard or solder and if you freeze it and then heat it (as powers runs through) you can create fine hair cracks in the solder. So, it seems totally illogical to me.
Interesting, So which type or cable and power adapter should we buy for the prime if needed? we cannot use some "generic" kind?
I would just go ham on the tech support and make them send me one for free.

I hammered the **** out of them about it just because they took so damn long for such a petty thing & how cheap the piece is and absurd amount of time and effort it will take, they weren't having it.
They and I all have bigger fish to fry, but I was just so annoyed by the interaction and amount of effort I now have to expend.
Awe man that sucks. What you need to do its call and act super crazy. Like change up your accent in between sentences, talk loud and then really soft. Yell at them and then pretend to cry and apologize for yelling. That usually makes em feel really bad and sorry for me and then they are like ok, we will make an exception.
Make sure you talking to high level support though, lower level ppl have no authority. Ask then what level they are and ask to be escalated. Be really nice to them too.
This actually works btw. Have gotten a hp laptop battery replaced after it was out of warranty, a early phone upgrade for my friend on att, and also a free slingbox dvr from dish.

BWaaa ha ha LOL this is the trick I plan to use the next time I have to attend Jury Duty
I think the reason the others won't work is a lot of those smaller chargers for phones and things are 5 volt and the prime wants a 12 or 15 volt or something. At least I thought that's what the prime charger had listed in it's specs.
I suppose if radio shack had a generic wall usb charger listed higher it should work. The Prime/TF101 chargers are like $30...
Why do you have to pay for shipping?
There is something I don't understand here. Why do you have to pay to ship the unit to Asus if you didn't break it? I'd understand you'd have to pay to get it back if they discover that it broke because of you but why do you have to pay to get a warranty repair?

Are you worried about a catastrophic failure if your hypothetical situation occurs? Also considering it "freezing" is a bit off since you can't freeze a solid, you are simply cooling it.
Considering there are plenty of electronics that work outside in the winter without problems to their soldering as far as I am aware, I would think cooling your adapter shouldn't be a huge risk.
My USB Charger died as well... In fact It worked only 1 time !
I received my TF201 Wednesday (jan 18th) and the usb charger worked like a charm the first time. I played with the TF201 until the battery was at 1% and I plugged it on the charger then... nothing (no orange lights and no charging icons on the screen). I submit a RMA for this (and for the light bleeds, I'm so lucky).
Now I have to charge my TF201 with regular usb charger but It only charges the TF201 if it is turned off and it takes FOREVER to charge (after 12h of charging = 72%).
I wonder if it would charge faster if I plug on my computer (I got usb3 ports)...

Nope, maybe try a tiny dab of superglue?
Well I know it is an easy fix I just thought it was kinda weird and wanted to know if I was the only one who had this problem
Yup happened to me. But on the other side. The USB side. Cant sseem to attach the pic from my tfp
i had this happen to me right out of the box! plugged the device in to charge then unplug after full charge then this happened.

Yes! It's a piece of crap! And I tried to RMA to Asus but they want the bad one back and then they'll send out a new or fixed one. So how is a person supposed to charge the tablet with no power cord? Very disappointing, Asus! They've sent me several follow up surveys to the phone calls and emails and I've told them how I feel about this. They don't seem to respond after that... Haha! Oh, well. The superglue route is probably the best way to go, anyhow.
My cable came apart like that the first time I used it. I carefully removed it from the connector on my tablet so as not to damage any wires, and then pushed the cap back on until it clicked and it hasn't come off since.
I think the problem is that the black cap isn't properly seated over the connector on some charging cables so the little clips on the inside never engaged. I have a half dozen chargers for the TF Prime and 3 were like this.
This is definitely something that might scare you the first time you try to unplug your connector, but it isn't a huge problem unless you rip out the wires or something.
My wife's did this the first time we unplugged it. I used a few drops of super glue on it and it has never come apart again. Mine on the other hand never had the issue. I think there was a batch of the plugs that they never put the glue on them so they weren't sealed when they got shipped. Put a few drops of glue on it and seal it up and enjoy the full use of the USB plug

Prime and dock won't charge

Received my prime yesterday, but it won't charge. Neither will the dock. I'm able to transfer files with the cable though. Tried with several outputs like the charger that comes with, computers usb output and another usb output. I wouldn't charge in the beginning then it suddenly started charging after a while. After that I updated to ICS and now it won't charge again.

From the sound of it either your cable or your wall charger might be defective. Might want to have it exchanged.

try re-assembling your charger (wall plug pins to the transformer block.)
The connection between the two bits can be flakey .
(I had the same problem with mine but fine now.)
Find someone else with a prime and gradually substitute the components : pins, charger and cable.

I wouldn't personally recommend mucking about with an electronic device that you plug into the mains socket if you've never done it before, OP.

good advice
I think I might have been misunderstood here: I was referring to the transformer block and the pin unit, which in the UK come as two separate bits which you slide together: hardly mucking about with it.
The connectors on the transformer part are a bit poor, and in my case gave a poor contact.

The prime won't charge from a normal USB socket (eg from your computer) - the wall socket puts out 15V when it sees the prime attached instead of the normal 5V.
What I'd do is plug the prime into the wall socket - check if it works. If not plug another usb device for example a phone, kindle etc. into the socket and see if that charges - if it does it's the cable/tablet at fault, if not then it's something to do with the transformer attached to the plug.
As someone's alread mentioned before, occasionally the pins between teh transformer and the prongs that go in the wall aren't quite touching - some people have had success in bending these out very slightly.
Thank you for all your help. I did some testing, and it seems to be that the wall charger is the problem (wouldn't charge my phone either). It starts charging for maybe about 5 minutes, and then it stops (and it's pretty hot). If I let it cool of for a minute it's able to charge again, and same procedure happens. Then my only problem is to get hold of a new wall charger..
Looks like I'm not the only one with this issue. I feel like a doctor making a diagnosis.
Have had my Prime for about 7 mos. Got the docking station about two months ago, been working like a charm. I did notice lately that the charger block got warm when plugged in and both tablet and dock were charging. I didn't have anything else plugged into the outlet.
Last night I noticed it was being temperamental, it made the battery connection noise and showed the connection pop-up on the screen. Then I noticed on and off last night it kept going on and off. Finally it stayed on. When I checked it hours later, the dock hadn't charged a bit.
I did the computer test for the tablet, it reads it on USB and from what I could tell, it did charge up the tablet. Figured it was maybe the block. I tried charging it from the wall with JUST the dock. It worked for a minute as I saw the red light, then it went off again.
Replaced the block itself, nothing. Tried bending the pins out a bit on old one, nothing. Won't even charge the tablet now.
What is baffling to me is how the tablet shows when it's connected to the comp, with the SAME wire...
I looked through some posts above trying out various things, nada.
I'm going to continue my minor surgery and see, otherwise, guess I need to go back and get a new charging wire.
As Bill Lumbergh would say, grrreeeeeeeeeeeeeaat.

The wires that connect power are not the same that transmit data. You could easily break one and not (yet) the other.

Asus Charger not detected :(

Hello my friends,
My charger is not detected on my prime.
I use my stock asus charger.
Nevertheless, it charge ! Slowly...but it charge !
I reset the tab, no changes !
I do a reset factory and a wip, no changes.
Anyone know any tips or solutions ?
Thanks a lot
Best regards,

It could be the cable. I have read about cable problems when connecting to a pc.

I had the same issue a few weeks back..
have you tried the freezer trick?
the charger device overloads from time to time and a protection mechanism kicks in.
Put the charger in a freezer bag (to prevent any water getting in), then put the bag with the charger in your freezer for 20/30 minutes.
This worked for me several times
eventually my charger died
I got a replacement charger from amazon does the job..
I had this problem a few times too, the first few times putting the charger in the fridge worked. After about three times that stopped working, so i bought a new cable and it worked. I was surprised because i thought the problem was in the charger itself, but the new cable fixed it. Another thing you can try is to slide off the part of the charger that plugs into the wall. There will be two metal prongs. Bend them away from each other, just a little bit. I have read that this fixes some peoples problems as well.
I had the same problem with my charger, sendt it in, an got a new in return from the Asus workshop.
I had issues with the PC then eventually it stopped charging. Called asus and did an rma. Had a new one in two weeks.

For information, I also had a same charging problem last week-end: my prime and the dock didn't charge anymore!? I finally found out that the CABLE was the source of the problem.
Same thing here happened to me months ago. Tested all combinations with another TF700 and found out it was the cable. Now I'm back to charging like normal with no issues.

Try another USB cable they often break. If that doesn't work you can always get a Touchstone and the WiFi file transfer app. That should allow you to keep using the tablet like normal.
The usual HP TouchPad battery drain issues:
-If your battery is heavily drained, then you may need to leave it charging for a full day.
-When the battery is fully drained it can take the TP a longtime to reach even the lowest battery level.
-The USB cable that comes with the HP TP is often defective and breaks easily. Try using another USB cable if possible.
-The USB cable does not transfer enough power to effectively charge the tablet. You must use the wall plug when charging the HP TouchPad.
-To be safe don't let your HP TouchPad run out of Batteries ever! Install one of these free apps!
-You can add an automatic shutdown Rule by doing the following.
-AutomateIt, Play Store Link- What to do: New Rule/Trigger Battery level(Below 20%)/Action/Shutdown//save. Or
-Llama, Play Store Link- Location Profiles:Event tab choose + (at the bottom of the screen) Addcondition (battery Level Below 20%) Actions (turn off phone)

So I was bending over to pull an electrical cord out of the socket behind my entertainment unit, and I used my touchpad (in a case) to support my weight, I didn't realise that I had it cable side down, well just as I grabbed the power cord the usb cable gave way and I thought I had broken my touchpad too.
Anyway, I tried a new cable and it worked fine, these tablets may not be pretty, but they sure are tough.
Hope you have some luck in getting it fixed.

but yeah damn 380€ much but its good for studies and things full windows. but still im gonna want my android tablet.
so i think i will buy one day the charger. but euh, if my battery is empty does touchstone charge it from dead? other wise im ****ed...
Had some problem but solved
Hi reggiexp,
I had the same issue of touchpad not charging. But i used my Nokia lumia charger plugged into TP when it is dead throughout the night and found it 48% charged in the morning after i switched on. When i reconnected the tp when it was on it came to full charge in an hour. Try this.
Please ignore the warning that the USB cable is not genuine which comes when you connect different USB cable.
Hope it helps!
Thought I would post this just in case anyone else is looking for a solution here. Purchased this off Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ES5ZSW/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Doesn't cause pop any warnings while charging. Still using the plug that was sent with the touchpad and it is working better than the other one. Feels a little more secure while plugged in.
I'm a big fan of the touchstone.
However I sort of have the opposite problem as both of my Touchstone chargers have quite working. Each at different times. My suspicion is they suffered the same faulty cable fate. Unfortunately I won't be purchasing another as they are to expensive to replace at this point.

Just a thought, but if you don't plan on using your Touchpad anymore, you could maybe consider donating it to a developer interested in toying with one? To broaden the support base of those still running this thing lol.
Or wait, so is the USB port dead or not? I thought an earlier post made it seem like it wasn't. Sorry if I misread lol.

Not dead just a miss connection cause it charges but slow. Toke me almost a week to fully charge it.
Tried different usb cables. Nothing helped.
Think it needs a new usb connector. But i dont use it. And didnt even try to take it apart. Im way to laxy its a grest tablet. Wantrd to give it to my mom but if it doesnt charge well my mom wont have any use for it.
Found a usb board 16euro +10euro sending. But yeah is it worth it... Will try to take my touchpad apart to see if its realy broken. And maybe repair it so my mom has a tablet again.
