If you like gaming I'd definitely say this is the best tablet out. For the rest of the tasks it gets the job done too. It's tough too - I've dropped mine from waist height twice without any damage - not to say you should give it a try... There isn't a tablet out there that I'd rather have, and that's saying a lot cause usually these things become outdated within months or even weeks of release!
Fellow arc owner here, and and I say go for it. Very happy with my 16gb S but do note that only about half that storage is available to you. Not a problem if you plan on using a decent size sd card though.

Hi,
I got a 32Gb a week after it was released in the UK. Am very pleased with it so far. I suppose it's just a case of knowing that you aren't going to be able to do anything all that different with it, other than the things you can already do with a laptop. It's for emails / surfing / social networking and the bits and bobs you can already do with an Android phone.
The overall size is very good and the screen is crystal clear. The speakers are disappointing. I found installing ASWLauncher EX was a big bonus - speeds up the UI and gives you room for more apps in a dock along the bottom of your 5 screens.
I've put a 32Gb full size SD card in the slot, and am using MX Video Player app to play movies from it, and PowerAmp to play mp3s from it.
I'd highly recommend getting the dock, as it means less use of the power cable, which feels a bit flimsy and gives you the impression that it could easily be broken. It also turns the tab into a nice picture-frame!
For transferring files to and from the tablet, I'd recommend FTPServer on the tablet (https://market.android.com/details?id=lutey.FTPServer&hl=en), and Filezilla on a pc/laptop. This removes the need to constantly put a cable in the side of the device, as the transfers are done wirelessly.
I haven't scratched the screen in all the time I've had it, and don't think it would scratch without some serious force.
... Just some of my views! Hope that helps.

Happy to be of help! Was really pleased when this worked - use it on my galaxy s too.
Can't say much more that hasn't already been said here, but this.
I love this machine, been downloading free ps-games from ps store, I've been downloading free movies from video unlimited. I have bought an SDXC 128GB card and formated it in FAT32 and put it into the machine. Works wonderful.
If the ps store force closes? clear cache and data and it would work again.
Got the usb-adapter cable today. it works fine with normal usb-memories. Have not tried it with my ps3-controller yet, since I'm not home.
Have not tried 720p/1080p movies on it yet, but I see no point in why. since the screen is "only" 1280*800. xvid/divx works beautiful and takes up little space.
Ok so the gfx isn't perfect on them ps-games, but what did you expect from games that old. Besides, I play games because they are enjoyable, not because they look good
just my two cents
don't forget emulation works perfectly too (not just the PSN store games, which BTW are emulated anyway). So you have almost the entire PSX/SNES/megadrive/neogeo/N64 library potentially available, together with wireless controllers working out of the box.
FWIW, for video decoding, I've found using apple tv presets works perfectly, and preserves 720p
Is worlds scariest police chases on emulator?
100% agreed, I love mine.

I got five free rentals from Sony when I bought the tablet, that I could download from inside "Video Unlimited" app.
I recommend that you get the 32gb version. You might be disappointed at the meagre amount of free storage on the 16gb. Plus, you cant use the SD slot to expand memory, it only transfers files

This statement has potential to be debatable, but at the moment pretty much no decent games show on the android market.

A 16GB SD card is waaaaay cheaper than the $100 more they charge for the 32GB model...
Agree, SD-card is cheaper. I got the 16Gb and got the cradle, extra AC and LCD-protection instead of 32GB version, then I bought the 128GB SDXC and formated it in FAT32 and put it into the tablet

I registered my tablet at sony.com, I got "vouchers" on email that I could use on https://account.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/login.action then I loged on to "video unlimited" and found the free movies in there.
The movies comes in .MNV said to be played on PS3 and PSP only. But MX Video Player can play them.

The other 2 were damaged by my G2x .... I just got my Amaze. And the thing is.... is that I make sure I put it on "Charge Only" when I wanna take the phone from the usb cord..... try to prevent crap like this from happening!!!!!
I am usually so careful!
This SD card stopped working when I went into my Gallery!
go to newegg.com they usually have pretty good deals. i bought my 8gb card and another 4g card for my car, almost 2 years ago and both cards are still working.

Is it formatted to a FAT32? That will probably save you from most headaches. I've had my 16g for almost 2yrs with no probs. I save tons of crap on mine. Movies, music, roms, apps...etc I haven't had a problem as of yet.
Wait....I sent this with Tapatalk?
did any of them happen to be sandisks, directly from sandisk website? I have NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH sandisk, IT MUST BE authentic though. Used a micro sd card for the past 3 years, still works.
depending on what you use your micro sd for it depends on what class you should get, a higher class is not always better for your purpose. A higher class has better sequantial read write, while a lower class has a better read write. If you transfering files all the time, I'll stick to class 2 or max 4. If you're trying to shoot movies more of the time get a higher class. there's been a topic on classes of microSD, honestly you don't need anything more than a class 2, it has plenty more write speed than is used by our phone to shoot HD video.
ALSO lower classes are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY less prone to get corrupt. keep that in mind next time.
SanDisk is ALL I will EVER buy.
I've git a 32GB class4 that I bought before realizing I need a class6 for 1080p video recording almface: but I've had no issues. I've also had an 8gb class 2 that's NEVER had issues (other than writing really slow) and I've had it for yrs now

I have an ADATA 32GB card that I bought from Newegg back in September that has worked great for me. I used it in my HD2, and now in my Amaze. It is a class 4 card, but it has worked great for even 1080p recording on my Amaze. I'll test the speeds of the card and give the results later.
I picked up a class 10 Kingston 16gb on sale about 2 years ago and it's been working great. Loaded with movies, music, games, roms, etc... Use it everyday.

I had an 8GB which was Class 4..... and it was NOT SanDisk. I shoot a lot of high quality pictures and HD Vids.... That's mostly what I need my SD card for.... that and keeping my Rom downloads... I am so mad!
Doesn't lower class mean it will take a phone forever to read a 16gb class 2????

I have my original 8gb SanDisk that came with my Evo 4G on release date and it still works perfectly. I've always stuck with SanDisk because they last.
Must be bad luck. I have a 16gb class 6 that I use in this phone and my last phone. So close to two years old now.
I have an Adata 16 gig class 10 SD card that eventually went bad on me. They are supposed to have a lifetime warranty so I'll see if I try that.
That microsd gave tons of headaches. My Droid 2 would start acting funny once it went bad. It would freeze, pics would show up sometimes and sometimes now. Lots of forcecloses and my computer would read and read it. I pretty much had to reformat it to get it working again but a few days later the problems would pop up.
I went ahead and bought a samsung 32 gig class 10 once I got my Amaze. So far so good this thing is even supposed to be water proof with a 5 year warranty. It was around $37 from Fry's.
I have a 16gb card for 8 bucks from ebay that I bought about 2 year ago. Works great.

Here are the speeds I got on my ADATA class 4 32GB microSD card. I'm able to record 1080p with no problems.
I read somewhere that class 4 records 720p. I'll see if I can find it
While looking... I found myself proven to be corrected.

It's a great phone, only paid £130 sim-free for mine in the UK; but the memory is small (512Mb). I just upgraded to ICS and rooted, and despite spending a couple of days fiddling around to reduce ram-hungry apps and processes, the dialer will occasionally crash when I try and use it, due to lack of available RAM. I am going to have to strip down even more apps and widgets to make it reliable. On Gingerbread I had the same number of apps and widgets and there were less problems. So if you are going to hang on to your next phone for a while, I would suggest waiting for a phone with 1Gb+ of memory.

there are specific set of people which would be even more than happy with Xperia U. these are the normal, general, non-power users upgrading from a dumbphone, or even smartphone owners before 2011.
from their old unit, they can now experience android and the apps it offers. with even better than usable single cores out there, they even get dual core CPU power, to browse the net, take and view pictures, internet messaging via whatsapp/imo, skype video calls, socialize in facebook/twitter, watch youtube, email, create short notes on notes applications, and many other useful tasks... all rendered in a bravia screen with high density of pixels which is very sharp and beautiful. the transparent color changing bar is another attractive feature which sets it apart from other phones which generally, all look alike.
the only thing not possible here would be the things that require storage, like local movie watching and to some extent music collection playing.
any other else, its as good as whatever phones out there.
with the expertise of the devs here in xda, who knows what more it can do.
thanks darth5zaft, I've tried that before but then gave it another shot after reading your post - but I still get lags and freezes when I have an app open and a call, or an sms comes through, everything slows down. So I've gone back now to using Auto Memory Manager off the Play Store, which might be doing the same sort of thing but I haven't had any slow-downs or lags over the last 24 hours, everything is zippy and I can't see the battery draining any faster
I agree, this phone does most of what a more expensive phone would do - I originally bought it just to replace the Nexus S I had which crapped out, with the plan being to upgrade at the end of that two year contract next March, but I will probably keep it a bit longer now that its set up nicely, there's little else I'm missing really.
Go for xperia u
U will luv it
Nice looks
Dual core
Plays hd games smoothly
Decent battery ( after. 54 fw )
And superb pricing
And regarding lagging
Almost all phones on stock fw lags
Even my father's galaxy note lags sometimes
So if u want to buy a decent budget android smartphone wid power bt limited space go for xperia u

if 64GB microSDXC works, highly likely the 128GB microSDXC would work too
but 128GB microSDXC is half the price of an omate
and you can't really consume a lot of video/data on this.... 2GB of video recording for 20 minutes = 8 hours on 64GB....
phone lasts roughly 2.x hours when doing video recording (screen on, video stops when you hit 2GB limit... trying to find an alternative app that allows screen-off recording without limit)

well, two use cases for me were:
1) skiing/snowboarding, my left jacket arm has a pocket to place a 2600mAh external battery, place omate on my arm.
2) cycling, could tie the omate on my bike along with the same external battery above.
well, this would have worked if omate included the charging clip. with the dock, it's not really possible (hinge of the dock faces the camera, so you can't really drill a hole)
oh well... screen-off would save more battery
i just wanted a one-device solution (can bring my cellular connection with video recording)... too bad
Hope someone here can advice me.
I want to buy the Sony Xperia Tablet Z2, but havent decided about which one. Should I go for the 16GB or the 32GB version?
I will use a MicroSD card with it, 64GB, or if possible a 128GB MicroSDXC card. So I will have lots of room for movies, music and pics on the SD card. So, in this scenario, what is the best solution to go for? 16GB or 32GB?
All depends what you plan to use it for. You'll quickly run out of space if you install a few large apps on the 16gb but if you don't use these kind of apps/games, you should be fine with the 16gb

I am already hitting warnings over free space on my 16GB LTE device. I have about 1 dozen games and about 2 dozen small utility apps.
Problem is that the LTE only comes in 16GB variations for now.
Also, be aware that kit-kat doesn't allow free file browser control over the sdcard without root. i.e. without root, you can't manually create and move files on the ext_card (even with the latest File Expert file browser)
Connecting to the PC allows full-access through the PC file browser, though this is not ideal.
Root fixes everything.
Thanks for your valuable thoughts. This probably means I will go for the 32GB Note 10.1 2014.
I dont install very much, but its easier to have a bit more mmory then just the bare essential.
I got the 16gb version and regret that decision already. I was not prepared for the fact that the memory card is heavily locked down with Kitkat

I wouldn't recommend that. I just returned my last Note 10.1 2014.
Altogether, I had EIGHT Note 10.1.2014, WiFi and LTE variants.
ALL of them had a faulty display.
ALL of them were locked down using "Knox".
LTE versions are locked against using prepaid cards.
Rooting gets documented by an "eFuse".
Samsung prohibits downgrading to a lower firmware version.
Flooded with bloatware, of course protected against deinstallation and even stopping.
NO (!) software updates for far more than half a year.
And so on...
The Note 10.1 2014 has nice hardware (except the narrow bezels, making it virtually impossible holding the tablet without accidentally touching the screen or the hardware buttons), and the "leather-like" (which is nothing but an impudent lie) backpanel which in fact is made of extremely hard, slippery plastic), but got perfectly castrated by Samsungs malicious actions for locking down devices even more than Apple.
It's no keeper; sorry... :/
Regarding the 16/32 GB question:
Rooted Z2 (SD card write access enabled): 16 GB ok.
Non-rooted Z2: 32 GB mandatory.

I agree with the above, to bad you can't unlock the Sony without doing the bootloader altso, I'm kinda stuck in limbo with a non-rooted 16GB version and a hardly usable 64GB brand card :/

If you're used to working with Solid Explorer, you get rash if forced to using that basic tool. It's no more than a last resort.

As I said above, use file commander app to write to sd card if your tablet is not rooted

Yeah, you can move files to it true that, but fare as I can tell you cant access SMB shares true it, so you first have to dump it to your internal memory, then move it to the SD card from File Commander. Also, you can only move files and not application, limiting the SD cards immensely

Thanks for your valuable thoughts. This probably means I will go for the 32GB Note 10.1 2014.
I dont install very much, but its easier to have a bit more mmory then just the bare essential.

I also wouldnt recommend this. I just sold my Note 2014 to buy the Z2 tablet. Its waiting for me at home, havent used it yet. The Note is laggy, heavy and awkward. Just my opinion.

So, you want to advice me to use a tablet you didnt use yourself, based on what?
The Note has its problems, and can be laggy, but after freezing many unnecesary start-up apps, it reacts much better.
And you call 630 grams heavy? Compared to my Surface Pro it weighs almost nothing.
And what is awkward about the Note 2014? Please explain what you mean with that.

Mate, that's just my opinion. Buy what ever you like. And yes, I ran clean ROM pretty much permanently, with a custom kernel - it was still very laggy. Buy it and enjoy
Yes, Cheops, go with the Note 10.1 2014.

After having the Z2 tab for two days now, I stand by my original statement. This tablet kicks ass. So glad I sold the note for this.

About 5 hours and a little more using Sony's weak 1.5 A power adapter - via USB and charging port.
If you utilize a better power adapter (like Samsung's 2 A piece), charging time goes down to a little more than 4 hours if using the charging station (I wouldn't call this a "docking station" because it cannot do more than charging) DK39.

Well, that's not too bad, I can use my ipad charger when in rush of charging lol. So far, the most concern matter is touchscreen issues, if it not get fix soon by Sony, I guess I have to skip this one
