well its not really liberals as much as it is a couple of people who changed some wording, likely not knowing exactly what they were doing.
And its not that the want to make it illegal, it currently is illegal...

And on top of that the DNA is factory unlocked. So it actually doesn't effect any DNA owner.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app

I understand why companies want to lock the cell phones, but it shows that they don't care about power users. I don't even do that much with my phone, and it doesn't really affect me- it just seems like a big eff you to those who want to do more.

This is what that petition says and I think it is crap you can't take a phone to a new carrier even if you payed full price for your phone or your contract is expired.
because the DNA can be factory unlocked doesn't mean your next phone will be...
So I signed it
signatures needed 33,543 total signatures 66,457
The Librarian of Congress decided in October 2012 that unlocking of cell phones would be removed from the exceptions to the DMCA.
As of January 26, consumers will no longer be able unlock their phones for use on a different network without carrier permission, even after their contract has expired.
Consumers will be forced to pay exorbitant roaming fees to make calls while traveling abroad. It reduces consumer choice, and decreases the resale value of devices that consumers have paid for in full.
The Librarian noted that carriers are offering more unlocked phones at present, but the great majority of phones sold are still locked.
We ask that the White House ask the Librarian of Congress to rescind this decision, and failing that, champion a bill that makes unlocking permanently legal.

Any non-grandfathered unlimited data users losing unlimited data?

According to DSLReports http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/...Unlimited-Data-Loophole-Exposed-Closed-117668
Those of us who acquired unlimited data though the MHS loophole might be reverted to tiered plans.
Let's not debate who did this and right versus wrong, I would like to know who has been reverted back to tiered. Please let us know here...

Still got mine. Added unlimited early November and removed hot spot 5 minutes after the call.
Still got it here too....Signed up in November, kept it for 3 weeks, then got rid of it....
we know people still have it, this is for people who got changed back to tiered.

But if you see all the people who still have it versus those who lost it...then it can put the internet masses into perspective.
Like I mentioned elsewhere, I see a lack of evidence of people actually being reverted back other than that one article. Maybe he did something stupid like try to switch from a 4G to a 3G device and then lost his unlimited.
My rezound is coming Monday-- my buddy ordered it for me since I'm on his fam plan. He did it all online and claimed there was no choice to keep my unlimited plan from my Droid Incredible. He signed me up the for the 4 gb plan.. Any chance of me getting back my unlimited by going into a store and chatting w/ a sales rep once I have the phone in my hands? Or any other workarounds??

Oh really? I don't see that specifically in the title. If everyone who tried the method posted their results here, either way, we'd have a better idea of what's going on. Either that, or you'll have a blank thread. Let the OP monitor his question instead of doing it for him.

if you search, not only on this site but others then you will see the ratio of people still having it and those that got changed back are slim. There are threads that detail how to get it and if they still have it Here and here So if you want people to look through post after post of people saying they still have it, when he asked if people have actually got it reverted then ok, make people do more work. btw i love the forum ignore list

Arent you on grounds to terminate your contract if they do indeed change you ba k ? At end of the day, the csr did notify you about making the change and put unlimited in there knowingly. Its not like you hacked the system and did it. You asked for it, they said sure and you had it.

Here's an avenue that could possibly be pursued - forward a copy of the petition to the Federal Trade Commission for their input. Put it as a restraint of trade issue and you might get somewhere. If HTC/Samsung/LG phones are being unlocked, then it stands to reason that Verizon is keeping Motorola on a short leash and interfering with consumers rights.
I have participated in the soaks tests and it seems to me they do it more as a formality rather than caring on input. I say what I think there but I never see any changes that come from that input. It seems the soaks are released whether there are problems with them or not.
I can see why some would take a realistic view. Now if the deal for Google to buy Motorola gets approved I expect we will see some good changes. I am still hoping that makes it through. So I would say I am cautiously optimistic. Maybe the petition will help too though I expect the deal they have with Verizon might get in the way.

It has been mentioned somewhere recently that the Motorola lockdown has.to do with obligations to some international contracts or some garbage.
Doesn't.Motorola make phones for the U.S gov't?
Maybe that's their "international overseas obligations "

The possible banning? No, it's already starting.
This is not really that big of a deal It's definitely some b.s. buy not that big of a deal. T-Mobile is talking about ending their sales of subsidized phones Verizon doesn't really lock their phones most cdma companies will give you the spc. But you still have to figure out how to get your phone on the other company. At&t well they and android forums both suck Honestly this whole thing sucks but you me and everyone should boycott by not buying locked phones from carriers
I thought flashing from Sprint to MetroPCS was already illegal...
It will be interesting to see where this leads...
At the end of the day it's all about the carriers making money. I dont see this stooping me from unlocking phones at all. Once I buy the phone, its my property to do with as I please.

Short answer is no. Long answer is that sprint verizon and some phone flashing companies want you to think that. Carriers want you to think that so that you don't take your phone and run off to another phone company with it. Phone flashing companies want you to think that so that the info isn't spread around as much how to do it. That sounds crazy but there is alot of money to be made in flashing phones especially two years ago when companies were charging 120 dollars to flash an evo to metro and well you know how much Verizon and sprint (especially) makes off you

Ok, I'll bite. I haven't looked at the new proposed legislation, but if it's anything like the 90s version -- as far as the types of weapons that would be banned -- Yes, I'm for it. Do I think it will solve all of our gun-related issues? No way, not even close. But it's a small step in the right direction IMO. It's not your 2nd Amendment right to own some of these crazy assault weapons; they're completely unnecessary. I also support banning high-capacity magazines.
K, off to muay thai.

Patition Started For Verizon To Abandon Contracts!!!!

In case you haven't seen this yet, there is a petition on change.org to convince Verizon Wireless to abandon service contracts.
Verizon: Get rid of contracts for wireless service
Petition by: Mike Beauchamp, Wichita, KS
News coverage:
CNN: Thousands petition Verizon to nix wireless contracts
Venture Beat: Verizon, can you hear me now? Thousands demand a swift end to contracts
Below is my comment on change.org. Be sure to write a comment too so your signature is meaningful!
Sent from my HTC Fireball using xda premium
Sorry to say this, but I think that's kinda silly.
Verizon needs contracts to make expensive phones available at a lower monthly cost. Also, this is a decision that needs to be made by Verizon, not a bunch of people telling them they are wrong.
Just my opinion.
Yeah no offense but it's not gonna happen. You wanna make Verizon change their ways, don't re-sign with them.. Don't want a contract, buy your phone outright.
Hmmm....longer they have contracts, the longer I keep unlimited data

It's worth noting that there's nothing in the article that indicates that they don't have similar orders in place for other carriers. The Verizon order is the one that leaked, but it would seem that given the breadth of the order, it's probably not VZW specific. The others just haven't been leaked at this point.
I don't personally lose a lot of sleep over this, but I can understand the concern on this. I do think that an order this broad is excessive.
I'm sure it's not just Verizon
I love the "if you're not doing anything, nothing to worry about" argument. No, I'm not doing anything. And it's because of that fact that no one should be building a database on who I call and for how long and where. People just don't get it... How far will it go? When does it stop? Should every person walking the streets be subject to search at any given time because "we might get a bad guy"
Sorry, but I don't do anything wrong. I'm a simple family man who enjoys sports and tech. And I am bothered by my government spying on me and my fellow citizen for no reason at all.

All airwaves are "leased" from the FCC. I deal with radio communications. Fire and law enforcement were pushed onto the 800MHz spectrum about 10 years ago. Now the FCC wants them to move to the 700MHz spectrum so they can lease the 800MHz to cell phone carriers. Tax payers pay for the equipment needed to make this change which isn't cheap.
All the complaints I heard about google snooping on your WiFi are nothing compared to our own government snooping on every spectrum out there. No communication is sacred unless it is face to face.
The extreme would be to go back to basics of a land line so your location couldn't be tracked. And not using any social media sites or forums. How far are you willing to go?

What I find more disturbing is how ok a lot of people are with our constitutional rights being blatantly violated by the government under the guise of they might catch a boogeyman. The point isn't "if I'm not doing anything wrong, I have nothing to worry about, so I don't care". The point is the lower level implications that the government is wiretapping us without a warrant for us individually without just cause. They cannot do that according to the constitution, and there should be impeachment implications over it AFAIC. Same goes for the second amendment. You might not like it, but it is our right - constitutionally - to be able to own firearms. Like I said, I'm troubled by how many people are just ok with our rights be stripped of us. Rights that make us American, that made us the free people we were.
I wonder how much more intrusion, how much more erosion of our rights it is going to take before the American people revolt and tell them to back the eff off. I don't think we are those kinds of people any more sadly. We are not the people with the spine to stand up to big brother to defend our freedoms from an overreaching government. Myself included - I know I don't have that in me.

That is literally the same thing. Bradley Manning dumped classified info. He is labeled a whistleblower. As far as Obama and his admin are concerned, they are one in the same.
The war party started this under Bush with the Patriot Act. U can thank all those who got them in power for what is happening today. Know ur history.

While true, the Patriot Act was extended by congress and signed by the president that is sitting in office right now. They had a chance to let it die, and didn't. Now it is all on them for what we have today from that Patriot Act POS when they should have let it die out.
The government likes to use the argument that "they (we) are still looking for terrorists." This argument is now void. Seriously, we stopped trying to end terrorism years ago. We cannot possibly still think that our government is still trying to do this. They are constantly getting into our private lives like it is nothing.
Look, I am a soldier in the United States Army, and I do not see myself ever going into some senators house and going through his documents because I can. That is exactly what they are doing to me! I have nothing to hide. Just do not go through my personal life. I guarantee that they would not like it if I went through their personal lives. LEAVE MY VERIZON RECORDS ALONE!

dude, are you serious?
learn the facts, and then speak. you just sound ignorant here.
read what badogg said; it's 100% true. all these politicians are exactly the same, and the most disgusting part of it is people like you who claim "oh bush was the bad guy wah wah wah" but then you think it's perfectly okay when obama does it. absolutely pathetic. the citizens of this country are just as much to blame as the government, since they're the ones who voted these idiots in.
