New update incoming - HTC Droid DNA

Looks like a new update will be pushing out soon. Just a maintenance update with some fixes.
Info here: http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...-605-2-710rd-bringing-a-slew-of-improvements/
Anyone know what this means for us on custom roms?? Are we going to have to RUU back and take the update then go back to the Rom. I hope not. Hopefully most roms can just add the fixes. New radio though. Not sure about that.

I really like some of those improvements.
I think roms will be able to implement them though. You won't have to ruu or anything crazy like that.

Maybe this will fix the dreadful "No SIM card" error... it doesn't look like it, though, unless it's hidden under "connectivity improvements."

All I want are the connectivity improvements.
Hopefully the update doesn't break root.

If we're on a custom kernel and/or rom will we get the update? I remember on Moto phones you have to be on the stock firmware with all its bloatware intact to get an update, though being rooted didn't matter.

I think it will be the same. No update unless you are on stock. I'm pretty sure all Rom devs turn off the auto-update ability. It would not install anyway.

Might just be careful though ..I know when I was on the Maxx and took the update we lost root and it was a while before new root was found .. just something to keep in the back of your mind..

It would of been nice to see a battery improvement on that list

you can, but for me (and lots of others i have seen posting here) if you select one single band wifi operation is sporadic..
like for me I select 2.4ghz only wifi will cycle off and on repeatedly and never connect to my home network.. if i select auto band it connects just fine.

Whoever decides to go back to stock to receive the update mind checking to see of it still remains unlocked? Thanks.

I have a Droid DNA I am using here in Australia (purchased from the USA)
Will I be able to receive this new update via my WiFi network or does the update only come over the Verizon network?
Tks :cyclops:

Hopefully they screw up something so we can hack and get s-off ;D haha...is that possible? or s-off via software not going to be a thing on this device?
Either way, hope improvements are good for users who don't root.

Well I don't see the point of having both 2.4ghz and 5ghz WiFi radios running since I don't use 5ghz at all.
It might not make a difference just preference I guess..

Pretty ticked that this isn't the 4.2 update. I love this phone, but super delayed carrier updates (such as the Thunderbolt just now getting ICS) is so damn annoying.

Sorry - didn't grab the file, I know - I suck, but I was 3/4 asleep at the time!
Update takes a while... about 12-14 minutes.
It's official, I am up and running ICS!
Yes - it is 211 (not 221)
I did lose root - not a big deal.

Is your CDMA only option enabled in network settings? Or forced to constant LTE with no option?

I would imagine so. I've been running stock for a few days with just temp unroot through voodoo. After the update I restored root and as far as titanium backup is concerned I'm rooted. Also Google play video wont let me rent videos on the phone which tells me root is restored as well. Sorry excuse me. I mean my friend did all this. I know nothing of soak tests. My friend also got the confirmation from MFN sometime overnight asking for feedback and whatnot

I noticed in the 4th screen shot in this forum that there is an option to toggle 4g on the power control widget. So even if the option isn't in settings, it appears that there is still a way to toggle 4g off.

You can set it to gsm/umts, or cdma/lte, OR global.
Settings>more> mobile networks> network mode.
Also those screen shots are different from mine. I wonder if he is running a ROM based off the leak. The power widget does not have a 4G toggle. Also look at his About Phone screen shot, the System updates is grayed out, not white like the other words. Just some observations.

[Q]Help] No Network Service

Every time I reboot my phone, pull battery, flash new room my phone boots up with no service. I have to turn airplane mode on and off for phone to get service.
It doesn't do this with the ota or tmo stock. I've tried different roms as well and still no go.
Am I the only one experiencing this? Is there something I can do to fix?

On stock it works fine. And anyways I downloaded .3 r2 ruu and just flashed that since I was running .3 (first version) which hadn't worked with any rom. Now after flashing stock energy rom for the first time it's working.
So not sure if its the new ruu version or stock energy or combination of both.
I'm gonna try speed rom since energy seems to drain quickly.
Q. If I try a Rom based on the previous ruu like the first version of .3 will my build/baseband version revert or will I keep my phone updated to latest revision or not. Because I'm happy with the r2 version

I've only used tmo and telus as a daily driver, I get great battery life, performance and no issues at all on telus, was a bit laggy on tmo, but it smoothed out, but the bloatware tugs on the battery and my nerves at times and the htclinkify fix doesn't fully fix the app associations thing that the US version of the firmware update the way it is without that feature at all with telus stock.

Has Verizon or Moto replaced your phone?

I have had many lengthy discussions over the last few weeks with verizon customer support. My intent has been to have them swap my ICS upgraded razr maxx for an non upgraded one. I have not had any luck.
Have you? What tactics/facts supported your needs for the swap? The phone is non functional for my needs now, but verizon wont seem to agree with me.

People need to realize that with you cannot go back to GB from ICS IF you updated your phone with an ICS version >= .8x. Once you have flashed that, you are forever on ICS. This is due to a new bootloader being put onto the RAZR. There is no going back to GB once you've update to ICS version .8x or greater.
Go to one of those used cell shops, they can do it usually, it's how they fix bricked phones, they usually have the Dev software required to do it

Having to use a widget to switch to 3g after every reboot with only 3 clicks is far from locking onto a particular data connection.
By the sounds of it you purchased your phone with the ics upgrade on it (being you've never used the gingerbread keyboard), so you really wouldn't understand how wonderful this phone use to be.

First, I've owned the phone since it was released.
Second, If clicking a widget and finding a better alternative to the mediocre stock keyboard is too much trouble to you, then I realize trying to help you is fruitless. Good luck in your quest to get Verizon to give you a new phone because you want the Gingerbread keyboard back, can't figure out how to get Flash working, and don't want to use a widget to disable 4G.

First: You expect me to believe you have no experience with the RAZR GB keyboard if you've owned it since its release?
Second: Are you truly claiming that you have the ability to stream embedded flash videos, off of websites, with your DROID RAZR on the stock Verizon ICS release? If so, you have one unique RAZR, as you'd be the only one with the ability to do so.. Adobe Flash streams do not work on our phone with the update... visit the Google Play store and read the RAZR comments on Adobe... It's broken.
Third: If you are the type of consumer that is comfortable with needing to adapt and use alternative methods to use your purchased products as they are intended and advertised, then you are of a unique breed.
I appreciate and expect merchandise to operate as advertised.. I like the items I purchase to remain fully functional.
I haven't even mentioned the issues with the battery, but I'm sure you'd disagree there is anything wrong with cutting down the life of a battery by 40%.. Got an app for that?
Now you battery doesn't work either. ....Keep going. You're almost up to a legitimate reason for a new phone.

Did I say it didn't work? Or did I say it wasn't working as it was before the update?
He probably likes alternative keyboards so wouldn't touch stock, i hate swipe and like the stock ics keyboard.
My friend uses better kb or w/e, there are a few ppl that claim to have flash working on some websites.
And on stock ics my phone chewed through battery.
So root it and use a different cpu governor which will fix it. Custom roms will eventually (they might already) have a 3/4g toggle.
Motorola's ics updates are mostly fine, you should have read the problems ppl were having.
So you can't complain
Nothing isn't perfect, and i wouldn't expect stock to be as good as this, if flash worked fine, this would be one of the few phones i'd recommend to anyone AND it will not require they come see me to "set there phone up"

Unfortunately theres no going back once excepting a OTA update. MDK is the only version with custom recovery. Hopefully Hash will crack a safestrap method but even if he does you'll probably still need a 4.3 Stock kernel. Have you tried a factory reset? Might solve your wifi issues.

Well there is root exploit, but no custom recovery. So flashing anything isn't possible ATM to even change radios. Also, Samsung is locking everything down with Knox making it more difficult. Hopefully a 4.4 stock leak will save us with bootloader hacks. Trying to be optimistic

If that doesn't fix it you could tell Verizon you tried everything and it should be covered by your warranty for a new replacement.

No, unfortunately. The bootloader needs to be unlocked or exploited in some way for you to be able to get a custom recovery to flash something. No one's been able to crack the firmware for months now, much less 4.3 which just came out.

To keep them from upgrading you to an even later version that might not be vulnerable to whatever exploit they will eventually discover. (I have a PSP with a version that everyone said was unrootable yet here it is.. playing roms)

OP, you never said what the wifi issues actually are. A zillion people are on 4.3/MK7 and doing fine with everything.
People do that all the time here and in other forums in other aspects of life. They have a problem, think of the only solution they can imagine, then ask for help implementing it. A better question is can I get help/ideas to correct the original problem.
My apologies, your right. I went back and read my OP. I didn't say what my issues are.
Well, my employer privides an open WiFi for the office. The signal is not extremely strong but it's fair. Signal strength does dip up and down a little.
So while on 4.2, my phone stayed connected to the WiFi. Never disconnected. Once I upgraded to 4.3, it will not stay connected. It constantly drops the signal, scans, sees the signal but won't reconnect. I have to manually force it to connect.
As soon as I sit the phone down and it sleeps, it disconnects again and the process starts over.
The constant scanning is draining my battery fairly quickly.

No. I purchased the phone used.
I'm not convinced its the phone. I'm have been reading today online that a lot of others are reporting the same issue.
Seems a lot of people are trying to find a way to downgrade to 4.2 because of the same issue.
