Yesterday, i have updated my phone to Jelly Bean 4.1.2 ( Spain Version ) all worked realy good.
But after updating my sister phone(She had ICS 4.0.3, which i've updated to her before when she had GingerBread and had no problems with SIM CARD ) to the Jelly Bean version that i updated, her phone apparently does not recognize her SIM card anymore, however it does not recognize mine too. When i turn on her phone, it asks for a PIN for network unlock, really weird beacause the phone is unbranded( We've used movistar argentina before, and now we have personal argentina).
I've tried with " 1111, 0000, 1234 ", but they didnt work. Then i put her Sim card on my phone and it worked o.o. I think that the problem is her phone. Also i've already re-installed the Jelly Bean ROM on her phone, but it didnt work either.
Thanks you in advance.
The sim lock after updating to JB rom has already be discussed and solved at length over and over again.
In future use search before creating topics as per XDA rule #1.
My god, i apologize. Sorry, i'll search for it.
And say hi to your sister
Guys, i've decided to use Galaxysimunlock. But the problem is, is there any root kernel compatible with JB? o.o

Yes, plenty of them. Again use search.
Quick example is to use search function and to search titles only and use keyword *kernel* (with the *). This will bring you up a list of topics that have kernel in title.

CMW + SU might do the trick as well.

Hy guys
I'm new to Android and 2 months ago i bought a new phone (S G S II) with Android 2.3.6.
I decided it's time to upgrade and i did it with odin, folowing youtube video guide i instaled Android 4.0.3 with i think a new Kernel as well 3.0.15-I9100xxlph-cl118559.
Now with this update i have a problem with my location, everything that uses this facility it doesn't work (location, gps, facebook check in) and so on.Don't get me wrong at first with 2.3.6 they all worked after the upgrade they simply stoped.
What would realy help me is a sugestion of a kernel,ROM and a version of Android 4 (.0.1/2/3/4) that would fully work and indications on how to install them.
I thank you guys in advance and keep up the good work :good:

Download the latest stock firmware using CheckFus entering data for your phone and location. Flash this firmware with ODIN as you already did. Using CheckFus should make sure you get the correct firmware.
This will not lock my phone on the specific carrier (orange) right?
Lock to a carrier? No, not by just flashing a stock firmware.
And after i download the firmware that checkfus says is the last one how to i operate with odin?
Can you please tell me the steps i have to go trough? because last time i saw a video and i did exactly like there so i don't know on my onw.

There are many threads here that tell you how to use Odin, one of which is by Intratech. These threads will help you flashing the firmware you downloaded with CheckFus. Just read them carefully and follow the instructions. Videos are nice but in the end a written text is much better, belief me, it is worth the time of reading
Well i did as you said and it worked, finaly i can enjoy my phone fully and i discovered i have NFC
Thanks for everything
Hi there everybody. I apologize if I am going to ask a question which has been already answered, but looking at the other threads did not help me.
I want to root my tablet S, it has been updated some days ago, and currently it is:
Android 4.0.3 (release2a)
KERNEL: 2.6.39.4 [email protected] #1
Can i root? and if yes, how?
The bloatwares and ads cripple my battery, and i want to squeeze more power from it.
Thank you in advance

Unfortunately, no. You cannot root your tablet's Android 4.0.3 (release2a).
Will it be possible in the future? I mean, is anyone working on it?

Only a prophet will tell you what the future will bring. All I will say is I have seen people saying they are or will be working on rooting the unrootable versions of Android used on Sony's tablets or better yet, unlocking their bootloaders. My own efforts towards those goals have so far met with brick walls. My current efforts involve discovering the methods used by Sony's technical service for restoring a tablet back to factory condition with a rootable version of Android installed.
wow!you have 4.03 r2a?
there is a version new then r1a ?
when do you update?
what new in r2a version?
sorry for many Qs

To the best of my knowledge, releases 1a and 2a were issued simultaneously and are virtually identical but for different regions.

This thread is old. The new root method mentioned all over general forum will work. Still lost... see my faq in signature
I found this thread with google when I tought that the root of my version was not possible: I have tried with this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...6#post33470626
but the root didn't happen.
I have followed all the steps in the video, everything was ok untill the part when it says to type \data\local\tmp\onload.sh .
The problem was that the tablet didnt show automatically the terminal screen.
So I unlocked the tablet, nothing was showed, I found anyway the app "terminal", I launched it, in the blue screen I typed the first sentence ( \data\local....) there was a lot of error messages after pressing enter, I anyway tried to put even the second sentence, a lot of errors, so when I pressed any key to conitnue in cmd the method said "ok you are rooted have fun" but there was no root anyway,
It wiped all the application, even Play Store app has been wiped....I had to make a factory restore....
So my question now is: which method do you think is suitable for my version? Manual?
Thanks
Hi, I have a Galaxy S3 GT i9300. I ordered it online, probably came from Germany since it came with a bunch of paper in German.
Anyway, I live in Portugal, and my carrier is TMN, and I'm really confused on how to root it, and unlocking the bootloader, which I don't know if it's really necessary or not, and then the ROM, which I'll bring up in a moment.
I updated all the way up to 4.1.2 now this is what I want to know:
1. The easiest way to root, I have questions about this cause there are so many ways, and I don't know which one is the best, or the right one cause I don't know if it's unlocked or not, but I'm guessing it is since I'm using a TMN (portuguese carrier) Sim card.
2. Do I need to unlock bootloader? If so, what's the easiest way?
3. Now I'd like to know of a stable ROM, preferably with 4.2.1, or 4.1.2, also I'd like to know if there is any way I could keep the Samsung Apps, and if not, if there is a way to get them back. All in all, I want a clean, fast and stable ROM.
Thank you all.

i would have thought you would root it exactly the same as you would with all other i9300 devices, with cf auto root (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957273) however it doesnt install a custom recovery which you need to install roms. for that a good option is phillz touch (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2002953) which is based on cwm after rooting while on android 4.1.2 there is normally a red exclamation mark in the top left corner on boot. this is due to a new bootloader which sammy introduced to help them find phones that have been rooted and sent in for repair. the way arround this is to download the old ice cream sandwich bootloader (i dont have the link but im sure you can find it, i forgot where i downloaded it from sorry ) you may not need this or not be bothered about this so its your choice as for rom it depends on weather your looking for vanilla android or a samsung based rom. however there are no perfect rom it is purely based on your own opinion although a widely used and stable vanilla rom is cyanogen mod (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779426) and most sammy roms are stable as they are not really altered much from stock however i use android revolution and have had no issues with it (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797334). hope i helped in some way and i hope that what i said isnt too confusing thank you for reading
why does everyone want being spoonfed? what happened to good ol' searching? you're asking the most basic questions, do you really think they haven't been answered?
and asking for a clran/stable/good rom is against the rules

No best no right you pick a method .

I recently tried to downgrade my Galaxy S3 from Jelly Bean 4.1.2 to ICS 4.04 using Odin and a ROM file downloaded from Sammobile.
The installation was succesful and after doing a factory reset and clearing cache the phone booted up ok. It connected to my network provider for several seconds and then disconnected.
After several attempts at this process using different files, I noticed that the IMEI of my phone was no longer correct. At this point I thought I had bricked my phone by somehow corrupting the IMEI.
In an attempt to put it right, I reloaded Jelly Bean 4.1.2 and my phone now works fine again. Please can someone advise what I am doing wrong with this process and why the IMEI gets corrupted as this is obviously why the network rejects my phone when I install ICS.
If you would look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/ref-galaxy-s3-modem-radio-collection-t1740061 you will found this link for ICS ROMs: https://www.wuala.com/UpInTheAir/SGS3/Modems/I9300/ICS/?key=n0KVwtIMZPE8 . From here, select CWM folder if you want to flash the modem via recovery, or the Odin one if you want to flash it with Odin. Choone one of the file, download it, and then flash it via the method you want.
QuickQuestion: Why would you wanna use ICS when it has been released 4.3 for our device, and 4.4 it is said to be released in the following weeks (Hope so! ). If you want, you can answer, if not, it'ss not a big problem
Thanks for the reply. Is this the reason my IMEI is corrupted when I flash a PDA from Sammobile? I am new to using Odin etc and followed the instructions on the website.
There are some features I liked in ICS that were removed in Jelly Bean, such as direct access to words in the custom dictionary and the 3 x 4 keypad that was removed in 4.3. I already downgraded from 4.3 to 4.1.2 but wanted to try ICS 4.04. So far I can install it but cannot get a network connection for more than a few seconds.
#EDIT: After further research this problem appears to be an issue with the phone's EFS data. I have now used EFS Professional to back up this important area. What I don't know is can I restore this backed up EFS data to correct the problem I'm having when I downgrade Jelly Bean 4.1.2 to ICS 4.04?

If you have a 16GB s3, u might want to keep JB, 16GB ICS S3 has the possibility for sudden death. But, i too am considering going back to ICS, Jellybean is a joke, it lags way more than ICS does. Trying to force the system to constantly render at 60FPS is hardware demanding and was probably a temporary approach. Its unfortunate that ICS ROMS are no longer available for download. Also, i doubt kitkat would be released for our phone.
My S3 is 16Gb and was originally shipped with Jelly Bean. I watched a Youtube video comparing ICS and Jelly Bean and ICS was faster responding in virtually every test, despite the guy doing it being pro Jelly Bean.
I don't know much about the 'sudden death' problem with ICS on 16Gb models but from what little I've read, I thought this was more of a hardware issue due to defective memory chips and/or main boards?
My S3 updated to Jelly Bean 4.3 last December and I wasn't happy because they had removed the 3x4 Samsung keypad that I like to use. I tried a number of different keypads from Play Store but in the end decided to downgrade to 4.1.2, which went without a hitch.
My attempts to do the same with ICS 4.04 did not go so well and I'm still not sure why the IMEI was corrupted or even more surprising, that it was corrected when I re flashed 4.1.2

Not sure exactly how the sudden death works, i just know it affects 16GB s3 variants. I know the video you are referring to, i watched the exact same one. I think most people got caught up in the hype of JB and forgot how good ICS was.

The Youtube video made me laugh as it was supposed to encourage you to want the Jelly Bean upgrade, when all it did was make me want to run ICS even more! I tried a friend's Galaxy S2 with ICS the other day and it was smoother and faster responding than my S3.
I hope to have another go at getting it working but also I am concerned I probably came close to bricking my handset last time because I do not know enough about the process. This wouldn't be good as I still have another year on my network contract to go.
Do post here if you succeed in downgrading to 4.0.4 as I am also looking for it but it's not working
And best of luck
Unless you have a backup of your efs folder, from before firmware EMG4 then you cannot downgrade.
EFS format was changed at EMG4 to v2, earlier roms are incompatible with v2 and later roms incompatible with v1 so IMEI will be corrupt.

Thanks for the info.
My S3 was shipped with EMG4, so unfortunately I don't have any efs data that I can use with earlier ICS firmwares. I was trying in vain to load BLG8 but it just resulted in a corrupted IMEI and no network.
Unless there is some way of converting saved v2 efs data to the earlier format, then I will have to stick with the Android version I have.
Why are you not trying 4.3 or custom rom mate? My god if your phone is giving u problem u should try to tame it. Very smooth, the nb6 firmware. Or at least let yourself try a custom rom for instance temasek.

I have tried the Official Samsung 4.3 release but didn't like that they removed the 3x4 Samsung Keypad, which I prefer to use. I've tried custom firmwares on my old phone (Galaxy Ace) but never had much success with installing them or getting things to work properly after.
My S3 is still under contract for another year and my skills in this area of modifying are beginner level at best, so I plan to do a lot more reading on here and a lot less messing around with the phone firmware until I know more about it.

Your phone lag is because of Samsung bloatwares, get rid of it and you would be fine. Temporarily suggestions would be hang on 4.12 and try greenify. U don't need root but root would give you he best out of it. Look up cf autoroot and begin your journey.

Will this custom ROM unlock the phone?
I have bought this phone from T-Mobile, but chose the wrong option when buying (not the unlocked one) and now the only way I could find to unlock the phone would be paying for the network unlock code (around $30).
Would anyone know if by flashing this ROM it will unlock the phone to use another carrier's SIM card?
Any other option on how to unlock the phone using another method would also be greatly appreciated.
No, the custom ROM will not unlock the phone

Already found the answer to my own question. I flashed the custom ROM to the locked phone and tried to place a SIM card in it, but still get the Invalid SIM card message and it requests the network unlock code.
I can also say that kitkat metropcs twrp backup works on the Univision variant and it works with a sim card from another country, thanks!!
EDIT: This ROM won't unlock your phone, this is another part of the device that is not dependant on the rom, to unlock you'll need an unlocking box like z3x, or pay for an imei unlock code, mine could be unlocked with 13 dlls from unlockscout, samsungs made in china.

Phone is now unlocked and updated to Kit Kat
Indeed, the part of the phone responsible for the network lock is not messed with by the custom ROM or the update to Kit Kat method, but I actually found a way to unlock without a z3x box or having to buy the unlock code online.
The phone I was trying to unlock is a friend's phone, but I have my own phone and it was bought already unlocked, and is the same model. The trick here was to find out that the network code lock was part of the EFS partition. I made a full backup of my phone (unlocked) through TWRP and restored it in my friend's phone. It did unlock. Then it was just a matter of resetting to factory defaults and performing the procedure to update to Kit Kat and it now is unlocked and updated. \o/

There are many phones who are stuck on outdated firmware. Gnex, nexus s, htc mytouch 4g/slide all running kit Kat. Many many more examples. The Roms may not be stable due to various reasons (no source, outdated hardware, lack of Dev etc) it is possible
Is there a test that will show if a phone is locked or not. I hosed my efs partition a while back and had to format it, change permissions, and reset to factory default to get my Galaxy Light to boot. Does that mean that my phone is unlocked?

I believe you are looking for an app that is able to test if the phone is network locked or not. I do not know of such an app. The basic test you can do is try to insert a SIM card from another operator and see if it allows it or displays the message of it being an invalid SIM, asking for the network unlock code. And you don't need to buy another SIM, just borrow a friend's, it will only take a minute...
Thanks, that's my little problem in that I don't have access to a micro or mini SIM like the one in this device.
