So. I got a rather special question:
When I pair my ps3 (original) Controller to my tablet via USB it immediately works and tells me I can pull the cable and it works.
However, I'd like to achieve the same or something similar with my phone or other Android devices (w/o extra apps like sixaxis). So I'd like to know if anyone can point me to the files which are responsible (libs, drivers, ...) for that to maybe make it possible on other devices.
Look in vendor/app and system/app. Should be some apks with controller sign. Not sure about libs
Sent from my Sony Tablet S using xda app-developers app
If you put that apk on another phone and plug it in via usb it immediately gets killed and a message come up saying (device consumes to much power disconnected) there is an app on the market that lets u connect ps3 controller tho!!

You're using a tablet made by Sony, to connect to a controller also made by Sony. You would be absolutely deluded to think you could just "get it to work" without extra apps or hacks. The code required would be embedded across multiple locations and would be propriety so it would never see the light of day to the public.

I would love to be able to use my phone as a bluetooth keyboard and mouse for my media center (ps3, xbox media center), but cannot find any info about this..
I guess it would be up to the bluetooth drivers, and to my understanding, that was the big issue with bluetooth file transfer on pre 2.x android roms.
So i wonder, is this at all possible?
I am no programmer, so i couldnt possibly do this myself, so the question is merely hypothetical.
It would be nice to use the hero screen as a multitouch trackpad for my htpc with two finger rightclick and scroll as on my macbook but that would probably be asking for too much
I'd say it's possible, but I doubt that those BT profiles are included in the SDK, so it wouldn't be easy at all. It might only be possible on rooted phones.
A multitouch trackpad for a PC wouldn't be hard at all. I had an app like that (I can't remember what it was called, and it certainly wasn't as good as a mac's trackpad) but it worked over WiFi instead of bluetooth. I think it had keyboard as well... hmm..

Gmote does this, although i can't recall whether it supported MT. and i can't get the server to start on my pcs anymore, it is throwing some java errors, but i had it working in the past, and it was kinda decent as a touchpad.

Gmote has similar features, but it does act like generic bluetooth keyboard to be hooked with any bluetooth device, that support bluetooth keyboards. You have to install the server side part, which is not possible for devices like WDTV Live, which I would like to use.
If you want to control your xbox media center you could always search for xbmc-remote on the market.. I'm pretty sure it's for WiFi only though.. :/

As of now I could connect S60 device as mobile to laptop.
but its little bit unstable, let see how it goes with mobile as bt keyboard and mouse as well.
BlueputDroid does this. It is working for me to use my Backflip as a BT keyboard for my Nook Color (though it's a little quirky for me)

Hey all, new here, havnt searched your entire site for this yet, found this thru the goggles so sorry if considered old thread....
Anyone have updated info on this? I want to use htc desire g7 on android 2.2. to type on xbox, anywhere on xbox, like an always on handy dandy controller...
I can only seem to dig up (and been trying for a little while now) info on tethering your xbox TO your 3g android...
or stuff kinda but not really...
thanks nd look forward to learning a ****load of stuff on this site!!
(i love first time posters, so innocent, and polite, and freakin woooorddyy)
"GENERIC bluetooth mouse/keyboard"
Note "generic" word in the initial post. That means no server applications. I suppose it should work like this: I run the app on my android device and then my pc (or whatever) should be able to detect new bluetooth mouse/keyboard. Does such app exist?
I have searched google play and found nothing. Such app would be extremely useful, I would buy it immediately!

I think you mean it requires a client. If you want a service without a server, you are doing it wrong.

Hi everyone,
I've already read some stuff about this question in here, but I haven't found the answer yet.
I have the Apple Keyboard from my iMac and I would like to use it with my TF. It connects but after that nothing happens. Is there any way to make it work?
(One more thing: it has a Portuguese layout...)
To the ones saying I should buy the keyboard dock: I run the whole Lisbon (capital) and there isn't a single one for sale.
Thanks in advance.
Your post is too vague to really start troubleshooting. Is the keyboard USB or Bluetooth? I'm assuming Bluetooth because you stated you don't have the dock which has the USB port...
So assuming you are using bluetooth:
Once you pair/connect the keyboard up, you have to MANUALLY select it from your list of keyboards so the OS knows what to get input from.
Apple is also known for using proprietary protocols to make things work so they don't work on other equipment. A keyboard shouldn't be difficult to work with.
Sorry for the lack of information.
Yes, it is a Bluetooth keyboard. It connects, but after that nothing happens. And the keyboard isn't listed in the "Input Methods". (I think it is like this, I use Android in Portugues)

Then it didn't sync properly. You may have to go into Bluetooth settings and select additional profiles. It should list a HID device or something... and be listed in your keyboard list..
Another thing, sometimes when new keyboards are installed, you have to go to language and input and enable it before it'll appear in the list.

I've checked Language and Input, it isn't there. It recognizes it as a keyboard and has the Input Method profile activated.
(And thanks for your help )
I have seen previous posts on this and the Apple keyboard and mouse will probably not work. Apple has changed something in the Bluetooth protocol so it wont be recognized as a 100% compatible Bluetooth device. That is why it will only work on a Mac or a in Windows with the Apple boot camp drivers.
is it possible that the keyboard still thinks it is paired to the Computer and therefore may not pair with another machine. This is just from research I did when trying to make the keyboard work with my Windows 7 PC. I tested it on work windows PC, then it wouldn't pair with Home windows PC. I took out batteries for a few mins then it worked with correct drivers.
try unpair the keyboard from Computer just to see if it will pair to the Transformer. in the long term this may not be suitable for you if you want to use with your PC and Tablet....
Ultimately, as mentioned above, it may need further driver support that is not available for the Transformer,
good luk
I tried using the Apple Keyboard myself via Bluetooth on both the Motorola Xoom and the Asus TF.....both gave exactly the same symptoms as the OP described.
You can get as far as selecting the passphrase/keycode in order to pair it and it's all looking rosy at that point but then......nothing.
I'm sure Apple has gimped it so you can only use it with their own hardware. Yet another reason why I won't use their kit. I want to choose what I do with the kit I own, not what Apple want to do with the kit I own. Frustrating at times.
Hi, I'm really interested on using my laptop keyboard to type things on my android phone. And so does playing emulators with it.
But how to connect wirelessly from laptop to phone (vice versa)?
I mean where to go to input settings on the se keyboard to change from the stock se keyboard to WiFiKeyboard?
Or maybe a tutorial on how to connect it via adb command?
Sent from my SK17i using XDA
Hi,
i am using free "WiFi Keyboard" by Ivan Volosyuk from marker.
only i use it mostly via USB cable, and have written bat file:
chdir C:\Program Files (x86)\Android Commander\bin
adb forward tcp:7777 tcp:7777
Start "" "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" "127.0.0.1:7777"
First line to your adb.exe
Third line launches your browser.
First when you type you have long click text-box and select input method WIFI keyboard, only then above will work.
Depending on what you are planning to do, you could use sms control center via wifi. I use this daily via usb and have just now been using it with wifi and it works very well. It's only to send/receive sms through your PC and it's free. Step by step is in the program itself if I' not mistaking, otherwise just ask.
I've also used "android screencast" to control my phone, but this time connected via USB only. Keyboard and mouse also only work when the phone is rooted. Android screencast

Hi, you can get it from many places, Google SDK and so on.
I use one from SuperOneClick from the times i rooted older phone, but you can find it in many places there, look for the pack where it had fastboot, adb and drivers.
That is just .exe file which makes your computer communicate to your phone.
Be sure to check keyboard options in settings to enable wifi keyboard first.

but i got an xbox360..
i wonder, i have my old ps2 controller.
how about if i have a ps2 to usb adapter, and a micro usb to usb adapter,
then i conncect the ps2 controller to the ps2 to usb adapter, then connect it to the usb to micro usb adapter, and then connect it to our phone from the usb to micro usb adapter.
will it work?
This guy is running Windows 8 and is able to see an 'ASUS like' device on his computer. It looks like he can control it as well...
Here is a link to the YouTube video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UpugJkgH8o
Anyone know what app he's using? Is this possibly emulated?
He says that if the page gets enough traffic, he'll offer up the details. I went through and tried to search for it on XDA but nothing matches the way his app looked.
Thanks
N
I know you can use ScreenCast to do that, although complicated and slow.
http://code.google.com/p/androidscreencast/
You can also use our VMLite VNC Server to install on Android, then control using a VNC viewer on pc,
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vmlite.vncserver&hl=en
there might be other apps too
I was hoping the app he's using is different from these 2 and that it worked really well. Who knows... hopefully someone knows what app this is or the guy tells us...
Might be an external display, some android devices support hdmi cable, which connects to tv card on that pc
Hi all, sorry if this thread is in the wrong place, but not sure where I'd actually put it, so feel free to move it to the correct forum if needed.
Basically I've got an android head unit in my car which claims to be running android 10 (the unit is a PX5 I think), and have multipe USB connections which allow me to plug in a memory stick to transfer MP3's onto the inbuilt storage, plug in a USB DAB radio receiver, or an OBD adapter, TPMS, etc. Problem is these devices are to be left plugged in permanently, and whenever I start the car I get a pop up notification asking if a device should be the default adapter for a specific app, etc. I've attached a photo to show the type of pop up I mean. There's an option to make it the default, which it doesn't want to be otherwise none of the adapters work with their respective apps, but there is no option to say no and never ask again? So it asks every single time I start the car. Is there a simple way I can stop this pop up from appearing? If I cancel the prompt, all works fine with each adapter and app, but I'm sick of having to cancel it every single time. No idea if the stereo is already rooted or not, haven't checked, but not sure if that would hinder me or not.
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

None good or simple. This is a really annoying part of Android.
If you have an AndroidManifest.xml with meta-data in it (see: https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/connectivity/usb/host) then it will always pop up.
If you don't you won't be able to get permission to use the device.
What you and I want is to be able to say, "This app gets permanent and exclusive access to VID/PID 1234/5678, but never do an automatic app startup. Wait until the app is invoked normally."
System HID devices (like keyboard, mice) go in quietly, but belong to the system.
But to clarify things, is in this case your FTDI UART showing as a Linux /dev/ttySomething or just being handled in Java?
Could you do this:
Code:
$ zcat /proc/config.gz | grep CONFIG_USB_SERIAL
If yes, do you see it in /dev?
Hi, I've no idea how it's handled I'm afraid. All I know is it's a USB OBD adapter to do real time monitoring and data logging of my car's ECU. Normally it's used with a Windows laptop, but works with the android version of the software if I tell the app the VID and PID info. I also don't know why the TPMS app is the one always making the request to use this device when it has it's own one which it never asks for, it just works.
So, I guess that "TPMS" is "Tire Pressure Measuring System"?
So both your OBD and your TPMS use undifferentiated FTDI UARTs?
That's a separate problem.
Could you post the two apps to me privately?

The two apps are NDS1 (Nissan Datascan), and the TPMS app is by Deelife, both are just apps I got directly off the play store. The NDS1 app needs to be configured with the VID and PID to work, which I found out via the serial USB terminal app, also from the play store. The TPMS adapter however doesn't show up in this, but the Deelife TPMS app just works regardless, albeit with it autodetecting and wrongly asking to use the UART one each time I start the car.
Nah, too much bother.
