hey peoples,
I am trying to get things working properly on my 3vo. I was using the Evo Design 4G, but my mom bought a galaxyS3 and is letting me use her old 3vo until i can upgrade to something new towards the end of my contract.
A while back, when she first got the 3vo, i rooted it, and gave it twrp. and also achieved S-off with the wire trick method when that came out.
Other than that, i haven't messed with this phone at all!
This is where i'm at with bootloader........with Sprint by the way
*** Unlocked ***
SHOOTER XC SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.50.0000
RADIO-1.06.00.1216
eMMC-boot
And this is where i'm at with software......
Android....... 4.0.3
Sense.........3.6
Software.....MeanROM ICS v2.6
kernel..........3.0.58-ck1-MAC-v3.3+
Baseband.....1.06.00.1216
Build.............2.89.651.2 CL409645 release-keys
PRI..............1.42_003
As it stands, i don't get random reboots or anything, but frequently it won't wake up after sleep, Just the the icons at the bottom will light up.
I'm hoping to get any suggestions as to what i should do as far as updating/downgrading to get the most stable ICS ROM/kernel combo
3D is definitely something i want to keep, along with bluetooth etc....
And definitely want SENSE........ i'm not that into AOSP
I appreciate any advice or opinions!

Great guide, It's also nice to have someone hold your hand an tell you everything is going to be ok, do this an this an this. lol
yea, there's just sooo much information on this phone. Coming from the Design 4G, where development has been almost non existent, it's pretty overwhelming.

real huh. i dont see a point in it. teamwin already had a dump of a soff from sprint. besides real as you say has been proven . we will have alpharevx with in the week. so whats the point. but to start another thread. lol
Yes I am aware if teamwins find and also alpharevxs today. Was not sure if they had found the exploit through a phone shipped with soff. Sorry just lookin to see if I could help anyway
Every little bit counts. Not sure how you'd go about dumping the system though. I'm sure someone here could show you how.

Hey OP, thanks for sharing. There have been a few S-OFF E3Ds reported to be floating around in the wild and as far as I know, a system dump was given to teamwin. At this point I think this is something the devs have had access to and I doubt would do much good now. However, your gesture is much appreciated thanks for offering up what you have.
Thanks just looking to help
The difference to this from the one teamwin got is it it a ship S-off hboot instead of a Eng s-off hboot like the one teamwin got. Mind posting a pic for proof?

My wife's phone came with s-off.
Can anyone point me to instructions to root it since it doesn't need the Revolution fix.
Thanks

So after roughly a week and few days my 3vo which I had only two days with before sending in, is coming back with all new front assembly, very excited! Now I'm curious I have not gottena chance to root this phone but I do know it is on 1.5 hboot will that be a serious problem or is there a decent work around?
Ur in luck. Some guy here was able to downgrade his EVO with hboot 1.5 to hboot 1.4 he has a thread on the dev section

you might throw up during the process though.

Try rooting a Samsung. I don't know about now but before it was a pain in the butt to get the rooting program to run right. That's another reason why ibloved HTC. Everything was manual and less stressful.

Realize you are excited OP, but did you need another thread for your repair story?
Here is link to downgrade hboot when you do get it back.

After coming from rooting my LG (press a button in superonclick to root, then running a batch file to put on CWM), the htc is a mega pain to get access.
The common theme I've noticed after being in 3 different sub-forums is that all users complain about the manufacturers not releasing code. I'm not surprised the companies don't but it makes everything so hard. So just realise it isn't just HTC being a pain it's pretty much every company.
Very glad that there is hope for 1.5's Hbooters I do wonder what hboot version HTC will try to enforce on the E3D when ICS comes via OTA.
So I was doing all the downgrade stuff..
Downgraded, got as far as the Revolutionary S-Off part, then when I was gonna update my radios I ****ed up and copied the wrong zip and flashed the first 2.11 RUU and it took me back to 1.5 locked.
I was so tired had been at it for hours so I'm like **** I'll just start again I guess this time will be easy, I bricked my phone through the method but then I read if you were already s-off that was perma brick?
I read that after I tried running the live cd tool and it wouldn't recognize the phone, please tell me my 2 week old baby isn't gone...
I do get the red dim light still idk if that matters but I can't turn it on or go into the bootloader
The last I heard if you do the downgrade with S-off your phone becomes a paper weight.
I got frustrated at what I did and was so tired I didn't re-read I just repeated the process then I read I had bricked it since it was already s-off..
is it gone?
As far as I know its gone! on the bright side you now have a nice expensive paper weight!
Sorry for your loss. Its a hard lesson learned.
Your best bet is to take it back to Sprint and tell them it stopped working, and see if they trade it in for you. I've read that a guy on this forum did that and they charged him like $35
for new device. Time to use your communication skills. I just sent mine to HTC for repair because I don't have a Sprint account, I'm using Google Voice for the moment. Just tell the Sprint rep how much you love them and their service and how you'd recommend them to family & friends and all that, they might just help you out. I'm missing my E3D already:'(

so technically as long as i do that writeseureflag 3 or what ever command and turn s-off to s-on i can do any upgrade i want and then always revert the hboot back again later? and not have a paper weight ?

Not exactly, you can take any update you want to with s-off, and s-off will stick. I've run the 2.17 RUU with s-off and it put on hboot 1.5 locked, but since I still had s-off, I just flashed a custom recovery and then flashed hboot 1.4 without ever unlocking, the s-off overrides the lock.
I wouldn't do fastboot oem writesecureflag 3 unless I absolutely had to, like if I was selling my phone and they didn't want s-off. The op only has problems because he was s-off and then did unknowns brick method.

I am currently using 4ext (see my sig), but have enjoyed using TWRP 2.0 as well.
Looking at selling my Evo 3D to a buddy and I would like to get a newer one, ie no scratches. I wanted to ask what are the repercussions of going with a newer 3vo; in terms of rooting. Also are they still somewhat the same; nothing has been changed (maybe BOOT version?)
You're going to have to deal with HTC hboot from Heill. keep your old evo, especially because that one will probably get scratches on it too. Just put a case on to conceal anything impurities

Please explain about the new hboot. IIRC My hboot was the hardest to do, now you're telling me the new one is harder? I don't just want to get a new phone, I want to get my buddy out of his clamshell...yes he has a clamshell.
I haven't rooted on mine yet, only because I don't have the time to be on down-time while I root. Especially since I have never rooted before. So learning curve taken into account.
I don't think the new one is harder than 1.50 was from what I've read. You still HTCdev unlock and then wire trick.

Hboot 1.57 I think is just like hboot 1.5, but there is no way to downgrade it/s-off

Hboot 1.58 can be s-off by wire trick, someone has try and confirmed, try to read on jopunotbear thread.

That the thing, I've always wanted to root my phone, so I want to make certain that I can root a newer 3VO.
sorry for the missunderstanding. you may be able to s-off a newer hboot. im not sure though
I'm so stuck on weather to relock and use the 2.13 ruu, update firmware, then reroot or stay on old firmware with hboot1.15 in hopes of s-off.
I really want the new firmware and I feel like it will fix the few nagging issues I have on my device. But since source seems to have dropped I wanted some opinions on what to do here.
Should I hold out? I really want to run newest mean rom with the recommended updated firmware but I wanted some advice on what to do here. Any responces appreciated.
Sent from my EVO using Xparent Blue Tapatalk 2
You can run meanrom without the firmware.
My vote is to wait. S-off is worth more than the new firmware

Agree with the post above. I'm running tranquility rls3 on 1.15 and I don't have any issues at all.

Yea I'm not saying the issues I have are huge but I get sence reloads a lot and I also I think I need the new radio as my service at work sucks.
So you guys think we will get s-off for hboot1.15 realistically? I always look around the threads for any news/hope but haven't seen any news or progress.
Sent from my EVO using Xparent Blue Tapatalk 2
If anyone is working on it, you won't see progress simply because if someone is and everyone found out, they would never leave them alone to work on it.

i ended up just updating since im in an lte area. the hell with waiting for soff doesnt really bother me being s-on anymore.
Nobodys going to annouce "hey guys I'm working on S-OFF"
Finding the exploit isnt like building a bridge where you can say you're halfway there and it should be done in a few weeks. You don't know you're making progress until the exploit is found.

Understood, my background is in IT so that makes perfect sence to me. Thanks for the insight.
That also tells me that since hboot1.15 has been out longer that if an exploit is going to be found, it will most likely be on that version before hboot1.19 I do wonder tho if its found for 1.15 would it be the same or similar exploit.
Gut says no from what Ive from HTC and the way they have been locking things up
Sent from my EVO using Xparent Blue Tapatalk 2
I'd be pissed if devs compare hboot and discover a flaw in 1.19 instead, sure I could relock and ota or ruu but it would be the fact that I waited lol
I'm kind of confused about this source drop thing. I thought that everyone was saying that since 1.19 hboot came out that HTC had found an exploit in 1.15 and it would only be a matter of time before devs did too.
I also thought I remembered people saying that once source was dropped it would be easier to find an exploit for the hboot, but the source only covers the kernel and no hboot right?
They can compare hboot but just because a new one is out doesn't mean they covered up an exploit, they may be getting ready for a hardware revision or may have just cleaned up code. Source isn't for hboot
