Navigation accuracy - HTC One X+

Hi, I've been comparing my hox+ with my old hox in regards to navigation, using GPS status I can get less than a meter accuracy on the hox but only pick up around 8 SATs, on the hox+ I can pick up more than 17 SATs but can't get less than 4meters accuracy, now if there was a connection problem then I can't see the phone picking up 17 SATs and getting a fix within 30secs, can I get some feedback from other hox+ owners to see how accurate your phone is before I decide whether mine is busted or something, I've recently had the screen and unibody replaced, mobile signal and WiFi are working brilliant, so I think its an issue with the phones hardware, but hoping I'm not the only one as I've only had my phone back a week, not even used it hardly since purchase.

As long as you're GPS is picking up satellites it's working fine. All you have to do is modify the region servers by editing the GPS.conf file found in system/etc.
Lots and lots of threads on this already but you could easily just compare the file to your hox and enter in the same settings.

Radio/Signal help needed....

I got the Aria about a month ago, and from day one i noticed my signal kinda sucks. I get full Edge, but 3G and now H (because of root/Lib Froyo) has just never been good. I came from a Blackberry Bold 9000, and it had FULL 3G at home and work. Now the same spots are pretty crappy so its not the location. Anyone else see this or have a solution?
I live in the boonies. I just toggle edge when I'm home due to wifi and 3g when I'm in town.

ive been doing that, but its aggrivating when I KNOW the signal is there, but the phone just isnt picking it up.
Dont everybody respond at once. My Edge is even weak. I might return the phone for another aria. No one else experience this?
Since I flashed FR006, I've noticed my battery has been quick to drain. Last night at work, I noticed my network changed several times, H, G, and E. I don't remember any issues when I was on R012. I intend to revert to R012 while at work tonight to see if there is improvement.
no one on any forums seems to be having this issue, im going to try and return the phone to see if that takes care of it.

It's Antennaegate!
On a serious note, I've never had signal issues here.
Maybe check the two gold tabs on the battery cover to be sure they are making contact with the phone.
I imagine the phone came from an AT&T store? There are many Arias on eBay that have replacement battery covers, and replacements with integrated antennas are hard to come by. Without the OEM battery cover my phone never gets 3g...

Yeah, the antenna relies on the battery cover, which has part of the antenna in it via a pair of metal contacts.

yeah i know. they are making good contact.
Not sure if you are trying to determine if the problem is your area or your phone, but you could use something like "cellumap" to determine how your coverage at home compares to your coverage at work/where ever...

no, i know its in the phone. my wifes BB 9000 has -71 dbm while sitting next to mine with -100 dbm
Gotcha. I guess the last thing to try is exchanging the phone, or finding a friend with an Aria to come compare signal side-by-side. Having come from a BB 9000 myself, I have not noticed any differences in signal quality/reception, but if I recall correctly the 9000's antennas are larger and more spread apart.
Same thing here, never once have I gotten a 3G connection. It's always Edge even though I know there's a 3G in my area. Frustrating.
I use aria. Came from iPhone. I actually get better service now in same area
If you rooted your phone and exchange it they will frown on that lol

GPS Questions

Just got an Optimus one from Orange and I've noticed the GPS cant get a lock indoors. My old Nokia was able to do this so I'm just wondering if I have a faulty unit with a weak GPS antenna. Anyone else with a Optimus One able to get a GPS lock indoors.
Indoor GPS lock means nothing.
Does it works well outside? Is it precise? That's what you should be looking for.
It does work outside. It's just a lot of phones I've used recently have been able to get a lock indoors so I'm wondering if the GPS in my unit is faulty. Anyone with an Optimus one care to comment?
Cheers.
... i have experience with lot of gps receivers (over 100 ) , & my opinion is, that optimus one has one of the best gps (fast, precision...) much better than nokia, mio etc....
Same here I agree with you.

[Q] Finally! E4GT to Photon-and signal icon question.

Switched to Sprint from T-Mo about 3 months ago. We switched when Amazon was having a 1 cent sale on all phones for new customers.
My first choice what the Photon, but I was swayed by the Super Amoled screen of the GSII Epic. I swore off Samsung phones after having the horrid Vibrant (with the never working GPS). I figured they must have learned from their mistakes...but nope.
Anyway, after 3 Epics (GPS, bad USB port and signal issues) I got tired of it and went and bought the phone I should have gotten in the first place, the Photon! :good: Wow!! I'm kicking myself for not getting this phone from the beginning. It just works.
Anyway, the only thing that bugs me is I still can't figure out how the signal strength bars work (with the dual colors). I've searched this forum as well as others and I'm still I think I understand the color coding, but not the bars themselves. The manual is no help as it doesn't explain the colors or bars.
I have six bars showing at all times. I assume that, unlike my previous phones, that the six signal bars will always show? At home one of the bars is always blue. In this example what does it mean?? I haven't had any calling issues and my data is plenty fast (4g) average 4.5 down.
Thanks!
The bars light up blue when you are connected to your Google account and are grey when you're not.

That I pretty much understand from reading other forum posts. Still wondering if I will I always see all the signal bars and how that corelates to my cell signal strength.

Thats weird cause I have an Epic, Epic Touch and a GSIII and have no issues with any of them. In fact my Epic 4g has better GPS lock than my photon, both running CM9

I could be wrong but from what I can tell you have 6 bars and will vary depending on your signal strength. Only time you won't see any bars is if cell signal is turned off (such as airplane mode). Even if there is no signal you should still get a no signal indication (at least I do).
Also, I was under the impression they turn a different color when using data, such as syncing with services.

Scottie,
I'm really just wondering if the bars reflect the cell signal strength at all. I know where to find it in the settings.
Sure would have been nice if they spelled it out in the manual! I mean, here at work I have 6 blue bars and get slower download speeds compared to my one blue bar at home. I guess it shouldn't bug me as long as it's working.
MikeyLee,
I had nothing but problems from the get go. Weak GPS on all three phones, the 2nd one also had the USB port fail (didn't know when it was unplugged). I went through 5 Vibrants when I was with T-Mo when they finally offered me a different phone. Sprint flat out said they would just keep replacing my phone with the same model so I just bought my Photon outright.
My wife had issues with her GSII. She kept dropping into roaming. Hers was replaced once and no problems since then. Her GPS works great, so go figure.
Blue bars is background data. Turn it off, and the bars are gray.

My bars fluctuate depending on the signal as do all three Photons in my house. If yours are always 6 bars you must be living near a tower
Know that the stock base kind of 'lies' to you, Sprint always shows more bars than you may actually have, most carriers seem to do this.
Download a signal app or flash CM7 or CM9 and you'll see the true strength of your signal.

HTC One - poor LTE reception

I very much wanted to love this phone. Having been an HTC user for the longest time, I begrudgingly switched to a Note 2 last year. Why "begrudgingly", you ask? I'm a bit superficial when it comes to my phones and I'm not a fan of the plastic bodies used by Samsung. The HTC One, as you know, has an amazing build quality and, when you hold the phone, you get a sense of the premium materials used in its construction. The screen clarity is tops and the speakers sound quite good. I love nearly everything about this phone but I just ordered a plastic-laden Galaxy S4, due to issues with LTE reception one the One. Upon purchase, I noticed right away that this phone shows 1-2 fewer bars of LTE signal, everywhere, when compared to my Note 2. I figured it was just the graphical representation of signal strength that was off but then I noticed that the One spent far more time on HSPA than the note 2. Using G Net Track, I observed RSSI readings ~20dBm lower than my Note 2. These observations were made over time, with the phone stationary on my desk. The signal strength indicator and the RSSI readings confirmed that the HTC One I purchased suffers from poor LTE reception. I'm quite irritated that HTC missed with this device; I was very much hoping they would hit a home run with the One.
Has anyone else noticed LTE reception problems with their phone?
I have amazing 4g coverage I'm on tmobile I came from Verizon I am currently in south fl might be your area ? This might be a stretch but it feels like I have better 4g coverage on tmobile or it could just be that I love the phone

I have One, Nexus 4, iPhone 5, they all have the exact signal level at any given location. Unless you're blocking the antenna causing attenuation.
Also, you should be monitoring RSRP and RSRQ. Not RSSI if you're on LTE. Get SignalCheck Pro and do some testing.
When I moved I stopped in Kansas City (one of T-Mobile's LTE markets) and I had no problems with LTE reception.
Even with 2 bars on LTE. My speed is excellent.

Have you ever seen full LTE signal on your One? In areas where my Note 2 had four bars, my One has only two. Maybe I just received a lemon and an exchange will remedy the issue.

I'm a bit concerned as well about LTE signal strength. I'm on only a single signal bar 90% of the time. I've only seen up to 3 bars only once. My speeds seem okay though, I am hitting 30mb down with only the 1 signal bar. My main concern is battery drain due to the weak signal.
I get awesome HSPA signal though, full bars almost everywhere. I'm tempted to just turn LTE off as HSPA speed here is still awesome.
BTW, I am in the Phoenix/Tempe market.

That's pretty much what I'm experiencing. I have a Galaxy S4 arriving tomorrow - I'll be sure to take networks measurements on both devices to compare performance of the two.

Same market, same signal as you. I think it's our coverage area though as I watch signal when I'm driving around the valley a lot and it def hits 4 or 5 bars of lte....but only right up against the towers....regardless I get great speeds though

I'm also in kansas City and my note 2 was picking far better lte I'd say than the One.
If when mine arrives here in Taipei it shows lower bars I will take it in personally to their HTC office here in Taipei and ***** about it. Will try same SIM card in different smartphones to show differences If needed but will need to test first.
I don't quite understand what standard is to be expected. Is anything less of 30mb down on a cell phone really that unacceptable? I suppose it's reasonable if you're using hotspot for a laptop, but are we just talking about apps downloading data?
It might be that HTC didn't do well with function over form with the One in terms of signal reception. But I guess this may be the sacrifice you'll have to make.
Have you guys run speed tests rather than judging by signal bars alone? I've found that although my One displays two bars at my gym for "4g", I get completely crap signal, and can barely send out a Google voice text.. I've yet to run a speed test to see what exactly I'm getting in terms of d/u speeds.

That was my experience, going from a Note 2 to the One. I returned the One and picked up an S4 - much better LTE service. I did a side by side evaluation of LTE performance on the One vs the S4. Using the Speedtest.net app, I was consistently pulling 13Mbps using the One. I placed my SIM card into the S4 and consistently pulled 23Mbps. I switched the SIM back to the One and couldn't break 14Mbps. Yes, I selected the same server on both phones. Sadly, the One appears to have LTE issues.
I will be just happy when LTE actually goes live in my city. My HSPA+ speeds are really good. I just did a speedtest and go 18Mbps on my One and 13Mbps on my S4.

[Q] GPS Quality

I am trying to decide between the m8 and the lg g3 for my next phone. I am coming from a galaxy s3. I use the gps on my phone quite often for work. How is the accuracy, signal lock, lock on time, etc of the gps on the m8? On my galaxy s3, it was pretty solid. I could get locks in 10 seconds or less and would be accurate within 10-20 feet. Almost never lost a signal unless going through a tunnel. For those that use their phone gps several times per week, how does the m8 compare?
Thanks in advance
Had my M8 since May 9th, have yet to see signal lost and I use GPS on average of 3 times a day
Sent from a payphone
From inside my house, locked on GPS in 5 seconds, accurate to 12 feet. (Actually, that's pretty good even with the AGPS. )
The only trouble I ever have with it may be more related to my Jaybird Bluebuds
X Bluetooth headphones not giving me turn by turn directions when I near my destination... without those headphones, or with wired headphones, GPS is great.

I was just browsing this thread while looking for info on getting the files to unlock the bootloader on my new M8. I wanted you to know that I gave you thanks, because of the fact that you don't accept personal donations, but instead recommended that people donate to a charity of your choosing. The world could use more people like you.
